I’ll leave a key with my friend next door at Number 21, so you won’t have to wait before I return.
Now let me tell you how to get here, though(尽管) it’s not very difficult to find.
Walk up the Star Road until you come to the first set of traffic lights and then turn right. Turn left at the next crossing. Go straight, and Landsdowne Road is the second on the right. There you can find my house, the door at Number 22.
Oh! I nearly forgot to ask you about the most important thing: could you bring a sleeping-bag? Well, I must go now. I have to go and take the car from the garage(汽车修理店) on Land Road. I was out yesterday, when it broke down on the way.
Hope to see you soon.
Yours,
Mike

Giving Directions in Different Places
If you ask people from different countries “Could you tell me the way to the post office?”, you will get different answers.
In Japan, people use landmarks (路标) instead of street names. For example, the Japanese will say to travelers, “Go straight down to the corner. 16 The post office is across from the bus stop.”
In Kansas, America, there are no towns or buildings in miles. So instead of landmarks, people will tell you directions and distance (距离). For example, people will say, “Go north two miles. 17 ”
People in Greece sometimes do not even try to give directions. They will often say, “Follow me.” 18 Sometimes if a person doesn’t know the answer to your question, he or she, like a New Yorker, might say, “Sorry, I have no idea.” But in Yucatan, Mexico, no one answers “I don’t know”. People there think “I don’t know” is not polite. They usually give an answer, but often a wrong one. A visitor can often get lost in Yucatan!
19 You might not understand a person’s words, but maybe you can understand his or her body language. He or she will usually point to the correct direction, go on in that direction and you may find the post office!
A.Turn east, and then go another mile.
B.But one thing will help you everywhere.
C.Turn left at the big hotel and go past a fruit market.
D.Because they don’t want to talk much with strangers.
E.Then he or she will take you through the streets to the post office.
三、任务型阅读
Are you traveling to an English-speaking country? ①如果是这样,那么你需要知道的最重要的事情之一就是如何问路。Remember to be polite when asking for directions, and don’t forget to say “Thank you”. Here are some useful sentences to help you ask for directions.

Could you tell me the best way to get to...? This is a very polite way to ask for directions.
Where exactly(确切地) am I? When you get lost in a place, you need to find out where exactly you are. Then you can ask this question.
What is the quickest way to get to...? If you need to get somewhere quickly, ask this question.
Where is...? This sentence is also useful when you ask for direction. ②Usually, this sentence is used when you know you are very close to the place that you are going to. You just need a little guidance(引导) to find the place.

Dear John,
I’m very excited about your coming and staying in Chichester next week. The day after tomorrow I have to go away on business for three days at the beginning of the week, but I will be back when you come.
