Pre-reading: learn the reading strategy Skim You can find main ideas by first taking a quick look at the title, picture(s), key words and phrases, and topic sentences. Take a quick look at the title and the picture, what do you think the passage may talk about? Read the first paragraph and try to find a sentence which includes the key words or the topic of this text. The topic sentence usually lies at the beginning of a paragraph. The school adviser helped me choose the suitable ones: maths, English, chemistry, world history, and Chinese.
