Giorgio Morandi was one of the greatest artists in the history of Italy. He was the eldest of five children born into a middle-class family in Bologna, Italy. His early love of art upset his father, who wanted his son to work with him in his export business. Morandi attempted the business unsuccessfully in 1906.
After that, Morandi entered the Bologna Academy of Fine Arts in 1907. He continued his study with the support of his friends when his father suddenly passed away in 1908, forcing him to support his mother and younger sisters. During that time, he was introduced to Cubism and Futurism, which influenced his early work.
After he graduated from the Bologna Academy of Fine Arts in 1913, Morandi continued his study by traveling around Italy, especially to the Venice Biennale. Those tours would finally prove important, as much of Morandi’s exposure (接触) to painters came from published art works on the journey. He was particularly interested in the work of Impressionists like Claude Monet, as well as following greats such as Georges Seurat and Paul Cézanne.
After Morandi finished his traveling, he returned home and lived with his family. For many years, Morandi kept a peaceful daily routine. And he did most of his work in his workshop, a small room in a flat he shared with his mother and sisters.
Life wasn’t easy for him at first, but he quickly established himself as an important modern artist. His mastery of a skill of color, light and arrangement began to gain notice, shining in the face of present painting in the manner of abstraction (抽象). And he was named “one of the greatest painters living” by Roberto Longhi in 1934.
4. Why did Morandi’s early love of art worry his father?
A. It took Morandi too much time.
B. His father didn’t have money to support Morandi.
C. His father wanted Morandi to follow in his footsteps.
D. There were no suitable art teachers for Morandi.
5. What did Morandi do in 1913?
A. He tried his father’s business. B. He started his university life.
C. He traveled with his father. D. He finished his study in school.
6. What played a leading role in shaping Morandi as a successful modern artist?
A. His love for his family. B. His tours around Italy.
C. His middle-class background. D. His exposure to his father’s business.
7. How does the author mainly develop the text?
A. By asking questions. B. By providing examples.
C. By following time order. D. By making a comparison.
C
A lot of people find it difficult to do exercise regularly, even though they know it’s good for their physical and mental (身心上的) health. Yet keeping on a workout routine doesn’t necessarily go to the gym or run around your neighborhood. Gardening is a great example of a popular hobby that can be used as a workout.
Nashville resident Tom Adkinson, 72, is on board with the idea of gardening to stay fit. He has three gardens, which he uses primarily to grow tomatoes, sweet banana peppers and okra. Like traditional exercise, Adkinson does a lot of preparation before gardening, and then he spends hours watering and weeding (除草) all three gardens, involving bending and stretching, which he compares to performing garden yoga.
“It is wise of Adkinson to do so. Even though gardening may not appear difficult, using the body in new ways can make you hurt if you don’t warm up beforehand,” said Zeller, who teaches at the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County in New Jersey.
Working in your garden just two hours a week could improve your mood. And the communal gardening, which is done by a number of people as a group in communities and schools, provides social benefits that can reduce stress and help fight against loneliness and even dementia according to studies.
“With all these benefits, gardening for fitness will be a trend (趋势) in the coming year,” announced Mandal, CEO of the fitness coaching app Future, “Our users at Future have already been asking their coaches to add gardening and landscaping activities into their routines because it’s easy to get and fit into their lifestyle.”
8. What do the underlined words “on board with” mean in paragraph 2?
A. In support of. B. At the risk of.
C. Under the control of. D. In opposition to.
9. What did Zeller probably suggest doing before gardening?
A. Having a good rest.
B. Getting enough water ready.
C. Doing warm-up exercise.
D. Preparing tools for weeding.
10. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. Tips for gardening.
B. The benefits of gardening.
C The process of garden management.
D. The difference between personal and group gardening.
11. Which activity may be added to the app Future according to Mandal?
A. Running. B. Yoga. C. Gardening. D. Walking.

Finding a California condor in the wild would be the most unusual treat. perhaps even more unusual than finding a wolf in Yellowstone National Park. In fact, the wolf was what opened my eyes to the fact that humans could bring an animal back to the place where it had disappeared.
In 1987, there were only 27 California condors left, none of which were in the wild, only in captive breeding programs, It was those breeding programs that contributed to their population rise, enough that by 1991 some of them could be freed into the wild.
Still the hope of seeing a California condor, which remains an endangered species, is very low, let alone getting a photo of one. California condor population dropped mostly due to human factors, such as poaching and living areas destruction-these are challenges California condors still face today.
Although this is just a bird’s-eye view of the challenges California condors face and there are many others, it is part of why the opportunity to work with the US Fish and Wildlife Service team and their partners helping their recovery is so special to me as a photographer. I am not only able to photograph the birds in their wild living areas, but also understand and record how difficult the work is of those people on the front lines of the protection.
I am grateful for the work of the team, and my hope is that California condor population will continue to rise allowing future generations an opportunity I never had when I first got here-to look to the sky and see one flying around.
12. What helped the increase of the California condor population in 1987?
A. Rules for hunters. B. Captive breeding programs.
C. The improved natural environment. D. The enlargement of wild living areas.
13 What does the author say about taking photos of a California condor in the wild?
A. It is difficult. B. It is easy. C. It is boring. D. It is dangerous.
14. What did the author do when working with the US Fish and Wildlife Service team?
A. He guided ways for them. B. He made records by photos.
C. He helped the birds to recover. D. He rebuilt the birds’ living areas.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. New Way, New Hope B. Wolves and California Condors
C. A Photo of a California Condor D. The California Condor’s Coming Back

One afternoon after school, Mary and her brother, Keith, were eating at a cafe near their home. That afternoon, they had to share their table with another person. That person was a young lady in her twenties. After eating, she went to the restroom. Without realizing, she had left her cellphone on the table. Five minutes later, she came out and walked out of the cafe without looking back.
Mary saw the cellphone on the table. She quickly told Keith, “Keith, the girl left behind her cellphone.”Keith looked at the cellphone. It took his breath away. It was one of the latest models on the market. Keith had always wanted a cellphone. But his parents had told him, “You don’t need one. You can always use the house phone.” He stared at it for some minutes. Then, he said slowly, pausing on every word, “I want to take the cellphone.” Mary could not believe her ears. She only stared at her brother, “You can’t! What if the owner comes to look for it?”
After making the decision, Keith quickly got the cellphone and put it in his schoolbag. Then, he took Mary’s hand and led her out of the cafe quickly.
Once back home, Keith locked his room door with trembling (颤抖的) hands. Inside his room, he took out the piece of beauty. Oh, he liked it so much. He had his own cellphone. Soon, he was polishing it happily. But Mary told him, “Keith, you cannot keep the cellphone. What will you tell our father about this? He will ask you how you got the cellphone.” Keith said quickly, “I will say a friend lent it to me.” Mary said, “Now you are lying too. Oh dear! When had Keith turned so dishonest?”
Then, Mary saw a house phone number on the cover of the cellphone. “This is the girl’s phone number. Why don’t we just call this number? We will talk to her and ask her to come and take back her cellphone,” she was trying to talk some sense into him.

There are extra-curricular activities like swimming, football, paper-cutting, dance and ukulele. I recommend that you sign up for the swimming lesson. The swimming class is very exciting. We can have a double race in the pool. At the same time, swimming can make our body get strong. Above all, swimming in summer can drive away the body’s stuffy feeling. I am sure we will have fun in the swimming class.
I hope my advice is worth taking.

第二节 (满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】One possible version:
That night, Keith turned over in bed from time to time. He had difficulty sleeping, uncertain about what he should do. Of course, he liked the new cellphone. However, he was feeling sorry for the owner. When he thought how sad the young lady would be at the loss of her cellphone, he was full of guilt and shame. The next morning, after a long and restless night, he was determined to return the cellphone to the owner. After school, he told Mary, “I am going to phone the owner.”
Mary was very happy to hear that. Back home, they phoned the owner’s house phone. A girl answered the phone. Kevin asked, “Are you the owner of the cellphone? I’m Keith. I have your cellphone. Can you come and get it?” The girl replied “Yes” excitedly, expressing her gratitude repeatedly. Ten minutes later, she was at the same cafe to meet Keith. Handing back the cellphone to her and seeing her smile happily, Keith realized that honesty was indeed the best policy.
