Exploring its remarkably preserved ruins offers a glimpse into daily life during Roman times, making it an incredible historical destination. 根据The Colosseum部分中的“Rome’s most famous landmark, the Colosseum, is an ancient stadium that was once used for exciting fights and shows. 根据第一段“Italy, a country steeped in history and beauty, is home to numerous iconic landmarks that attract millions of visitors each year. Let’s start our journey to discover its most renowned attractions. B。 B One week after I started working in Beijing, I decided to visit a place of interest called the Summer Palace. Before setting off, I researched it on the Internet. The Summer Palace is composed mostly of a lake, but it’s surrounded by beautiful greenery and a walkway that circles the lake. It is recommended that you give the Summer Palace about three hours. If you try to walk around it, it could take five or six hours. With that knowledge of it, I set off. The highlight of the tour had to be the view from the Tower of Buddhist Incense. It sits on the top of a large hill overlooking the lake and is worth a climb. It was built as a place to worship the Buddha. And in the Summer Palace, unlike in most of other places, photography isn’t allowed in most of the buildings. Pictures of most of the Buddhas and the other artifacts are off⁃limits for photographers. Another highlight was seeing the stage created for the Dowager Empress where she watched operas and other theater items. There are box seats that surround the stage and it was the largest stage created in Imperial China. You could almost imagine royalty reviewing the actors from the boxes and the stage. I do recommend taking a boat ride if you go, which takes you from one side of the lake to the other side where you can see another set of buildings. And it is fun. You can also rent an electric boat or paddleboat if you want. But since it was just me, I went aboard one of the biggest boats with other people. I spent another four hours wandering around the Summer Palace. But I didn’t see all of it because it was getting dark. How I wish I could visit it again. 24. What did the author do before setting off for the Summer Palace? A. Asked others about it. B. Learned something about it. C. Spent three hours researching it. D. Rented a boat. 25. What does the underlined word “off⁃limits” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Forbidden. B. Allowed. C. Charged. D. Limited. 26. What do we know about the stage mentioned in the text? A. It sits on the top of a hill. B. It is the largest stage all over China. C. It was for royalty to watch performances. D. Operas are performed there at times. 27. Which of the following correctly describes the author’s tour? A. She took a boat by herself. B. She spent four hours in the Summer Palace. C. She didn’t enjoy the trip because it was too late. D. She only toured part of the Summer Palace. B 25. A 26. C 27. 根据第一段中“Before setting off, I researched it on the Internet.”(出发前,我在网上查了一下。) 根据第二段中“And in the Summer Palace, unlike in most of other places, photography isn’t allowed in most of the buildings. Pictures of most of the Buddhas and the other artifacts are off⁃limits for photographers.”(不像其他地方,在颐和园大多数建筑都不允许拍照。 故选A。 根据第三段中“Another highlight was seeing the stage created for the Dowager Empress where she watched operas and other theater items.”(另一个亮点是看到了为慈禧太后创造的戏台,她在那里观看戏曲和其他剧场节目。) 根据最后一段中“But I didn’t see all of it because it was getting dark. How I wish I could visit it again.”(但我没有全部看完,因为天黑了。 D。 C This past January, Captain Preet Chandi set foot on a historic, though decidedly icy trail by becoming the first woman of color to reach the South Pole alone, without assistance. While others might have been content to make history with this singular accomplishment, “Polar Preet” Chandi is not one to rest on her achievements. The journey to the South Pole was merely “phase one” of a larger and even more extraordinary goal for the adventurous British Army officer. “For the phase two”, the 33-year-old has set her sights on crossing Antarctica — once again doing the journey alone and unsupported to become the first woman to achieve this goal. On November 14, Chandi departed from Hercules Inlet, an ice-filled bay at the southwestern section of the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf bordering the Weddell Sea in Antarctica. Her goal is to reach Reedy Glacier within 75 days, a coast-to-coast journey consisting of roughly 1,100 miles. And “roughly” is the key word here — she’ll be pulling a sled (雪橇) with equipment, weighing about 264 pounds altogether, and she’ll be doing so in temperatures that can sink to minus 58 degrees Fahrenheit, with wind speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. Her journey thus far required years of training. Prior to her 700-mile South Pole journey, she prepared by attending a polar survival course in Norway. She continued her training back home in the UK by dragging tires, the closest thing to pulling a sled, and a month-long practice run in Greenland. Ultimately, Chandi went on to finish her first South Pole expedition in 40 days, a full eight days ahead of schedule. When not otherwise setting records of human endurance in extreme conditions, Chandi tries to inspire others in her day-to-day work. Chandi will be posting interval (间隔) voice blog updates of her phase two progress on her website, polar Preet. com, where a live tracking map will also provide her current location at every point along her journey. “Nothing is impossible. I’ve always had this idea that I can achieve something great, something that allows me to be a role model,” Chandi shared on her blog. 28. Why does Chandi want to cross Antarctica? A. To stick to a promise. B. To take further challenges. C To raise money for poor women. D. To realize her childhood dream. 29. Why did the author emphasize the word “roughly” in paragraph 3? A. To hide the author’s bad memory of numbers. B. To indicate there are more challenges facing Chandi. C. To explain there is no proper word to describe the journey. D. To show there is no official figure about the distance to Antarctica. 30. What can we infer from paragraph 4? A. Survival training is a hard process. B. Chandi got trained by pulling sleds. C. The journey to South Pole was eventful. D. Chandi made full preparations for her adventure. 31. Which words can best describe Chandi? A. Inspiring and friendly. B. Active and creative. C. Confident and determined. D. Adventurous and modest. B 29. B 30. D 31. 根据第一段“This past January, Captain Preet Chandi set foot on a historic, though decidedly icy trail by becoming the first woman of color to reach the South Pole alone, without assistance.(今年一月,Preet Chandi船长踏上了一条历史性的,但绝对是冰冷的小径,成为第一位在没有帮助的情况下独自到达南极的有色人种女性)”及第二段““For the phase two” , the 33-year-old has set her sights on crossing Antarctica -- once again doing the journey alone and unsupported to become the first woman to achieve this goal.(“在第二阶段”,33岁的她将目光投向了穿越南极洲——再次独自完成这一旅程,并且无人支持,她将成为实现这一目标的第一位女性)”可知,Preet Chandi是一位爱冒险的人,她穿越南极洲是为了尝试有挑战性的事情。 根据第三段中“Her goal is to reach Reedy Glacier within 75 days, a coast-to-coast journey consisting of roughly 1,100 miles. And “roughly” is the key word here — she’ll be pulling a sled (雪橇) with equipment, weighing about 264 pounds altogether, and she’ll be doing so in temperatures that can sink to minus 58 degrees Fahrenheit, with wind speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.(她的目标是在75天内到达里德冰川,从海岸到海岸的旅程大约1100英里。“大约”是这里的关键词——她将拉一个装有设备的雪橇,总共重约264磅,她将在可能下降到零下58华氏度的温度下这样做,风速高达每小时60英里)”可推知,作者强调“大约”是1100英里,因为除了这个路程外,Chand还面临着沉重的设备、极度的低温以及大风等带来的困难。故选B。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“Her journey thus far required years of training. Prior to her 700-mile South Pole journey, she prepared by attending a polar survival course in Norway. She continued her training back home in the UK by dragging tires, the closest thing to pulling a sled, and a month-long practice run in Greenland.(到目前为止,她的旅程需要多年的训练。 根据第一段“This past January, Captain Preet Chandi set foot on a historic, though decidedly icy trail by becoming the first woman of color to reach the South Pole alone, without assistance.(今年一月,Preet Chandi船长踏上了一条历史性的,但绝对是冰冷的小径,成为第一位在没有帮助的情况下独自到达南极的有色人种女性)”可知,Preet Chandi克服困难,成功地独自一人抵达南极点,这说明她有着坚定的意志;再结合最后一段“Nothing is impossible. I’ve always had this idea that I can achieve something great, something that allows me to be a role model.(没有什么是不可能的。 C。 D Despite many public health campaigns to highlight various problems with sugary drinks, we drink them a lot. But, not everyone consumes them. Two new studies shed light on the fact that some of us easily fall victim to the harms of sugary drinks than others. Though sugary drinks are everywhere, some people find them harder to resist and the first study, conducted by professor Joshua McGreen at Flinders University, sought to understand why. For the research, 128 young adults of 17 to 25 completed a computer test evaluating their attitudes about soft drinks, measured against their soft drink consumption. The study showed that the more unconscious positive judgments individuals had of soft drink advertising, the more soft drink they consumed. It also found that a lack of inhibitory control, which is the cognitive process that allows us to control our desires — say, to buy a nice-tasting soft drink even though we know it’s unhealthy — was also a factor in increased consumption. A second study provides clues about who is more easily influenced by the marketing strategies. The study found that soft drink companies, like Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, have multi-billion dollar advertising and marketing budgets aimed to “create, maintain and increase consumer demand around benefits related to happiness, social status etc.”. These campaigns are “increasingly being directed at disadvantaged groups”, including children and adolescents generally, and people living in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Soft drinks, even “zero-sugar” ones, are typically high in calories, but of little nutritional benefit. Placing a tax on sweet drinks may be one strategy to reduce people’s consumption. McGreen also suggests that people develop strong self-control of soft drink consumption. It’s something he wants to research further. He adds, “I would also like to ban advertisements for soft drinks for sports or programs that appeal to children. It is specially important for sports people to stop being walking billboards for junk food and drinks.” 32. What do the two new studies focus on? A. The harm of sugary drinks. B. The popularity of sugary drinks. C. The consumers of sugary drinks. D. The profit made by sugary drinks. 33. Who are most likely to buy sugary drinks according to McGreen? A. Those who have a good spending habit. B. Those who can control their desires well. C. Those who have a good impression of soft drinks. D. Those who have no interest in soft drink advertising. 34. What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. The warning against the consumption of soft drinks. B. Suggestions on reducing the consumption of soft drinks. C. The importance of sports stars in advertising soft drinks. D. Plans to research into self-control of soft drink consumption. 35. In which section of a newspaper may this text appear? A. Entertainment. B. Health. C. Education. D. Sports. C 33. C 34. B 35. 根据第一段中“Two new studies shed light on the fact that some of us easily fall victim to the harms of sugary drinks than others.(两项新的研究揭示了这样一个事实:我们中的一些人比其他人更容易成为含糖饮料危害的受害者)”可知,这两项新研究的重点是含糖饮料的消费者。 根据第二段中“The study showed that the more unconscious positive judgments individuals had of soft drink advertising, the more soft drink they consumed.(研究表明,人们对软饮料广告的无意识积极评价越多,他们就会喝更多的软饮料)”可知,根据麦格林的调查,那些对软饮料有良好印象的人最有可能购买含糖饮料。 根据最后一段“Soft drinks, even “zero-sugar” ones, are typically high in calories, but of little nutritional benefit. It is specially important for sports people to stop being walking billboards for junk food and drinks.”(软饮料,即使是“零糖”饮料,通常都是高热量的,但几乎没有营养价值。 根据第一段“Despite many public health campaigns to highlight various problems with sugary drinks, we drink them a lot. But, not everyone consumes them. Two new studies shed light on the fact that some of us easily fall victim to the harms of sugary drinks than others.(尽管有许多公共健康运动强调含糖饮料的各种问题,但我们还是喝了很多。 How to Choose Your Purpose-Filled Career When you think about choosing a career, you often do it in the following two ways. ____36____. If you like writing or doing crafts, you might consider these things. This is not a bad way to go, of course, but you can’t always make money doing things you like (like video games or drinking beer). And sometimes things you like are better as a hobby or side passion. Mr. Roberts had divided the class into groups to do presentations. Today was Niesha’s turn. However, her hands shook so violently that she couldn’t read her notes. Her voice became softer even to silence. Mr. Roberts kindly ended Niesha’s part of the presentation even though she did clearly not finish. He also asked Niesha to stay after class for a moment. “Niesha, I know you’re shy, but you worked hard on this project. I’d hate to see you give up on yourself.” Then Mr. Roberts hesitated, “If I give you another chance until tomorrow, do you think you can find your courage?” Niesha nodded, grateful for the chance. She went as quickly as she could to her next class. She kept her head down and hoped the school day would end soon. When she reached her back steps that afternoon, she could see an inviting light coming from the kitchen windows. Momma was baking. Momma studied Niesha’s face as she came into the kitchen. “What’s wrong, Niesha?” Tears shone in Niesha’s brown eyes. She told her the whole story. Momma was silent for a moment, her hands still busy with the cake. “Why is it that you can talk to me about anything and everything, but you can’t talk to your class?” Momma asked. She set the timer (计时器) and then said, “Let me show you something.” Niesha followed Momma to her bedroom. There Momma showed her a book filled with newspaper clippings (剪报) and pictures. In it there was a blue ribbon (丝带) that said “First Place” and a picture of herself when she was very young, standing with her parents. “I won it for public speaking. I started the school year as the shyest girl on the speech team, but I ended the year as the blue ribbon winner. It wasn’t easy at first-- I was not sure of myself at all. I worked hard, and mostly I faced my fears. You just need to find your courage.” Paragraph 1: Hearing Momma’s words, Niesha stared at the precious blue ribbon, lost in thought. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: The next day Niesha again walked to the front of the classroom to give her presentation. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Hearing Momma’s words, Niesha stared at the precious blue ribbon, lost in thought. She pictured the scene where her mom tried her best to overcome her fears and gathered all her courage to deliver a fantastic speech to the audience. And Momma, aware of Neisha’s inner confusion and anxiety, reached out her hand to tie the blue ribbon onto Niesha’s wrist with a sweet smile, saying she would be with her all the time. Greatly touched and determined to find her courage, Neisha stood in front of the mirror, constantly practicing from pronunciation to tone and even each gesture. “Try harder, and I can make it!” she kept cheering herself up. The next day Niesha again walked to the front of the classroom to give her presentation. Still shy and nervous, she customarily lowered her head to avoid making eye contact with others, numb there for seconds. But shortly afterwards, courage found its way back the moment she caught sight of the blue ribbon. Comforted and inspired, she took a deep breath, straightened her shoulders and then got started, “Dear fellow students, ...” While presenting herself, Niesha glanced at Mr. Roberts smiling at her and listening attentively. A spark of joy flashing across her eyes, she knew for sure that she had found her courage, in the mill and in the adversity. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①想象:imagine/picture ②克服:overcome/get over ③系:tie/attach 情绪类 ①恐惧:fear/terror ②担忧:anxiety/concern ③受鼓舞:inspired/motivated 【点睛】[高分句型1] She pictured the scene where her mom tried her best to overcome her fears and gathered all her courage to deliver a fantastic speech to the audience. A social media comment. B. A travel brochure. C A historical book. D. An academic paper B One week after I started working in Beijing, I decided to visit a place of interest called the Summer Palace. A It sits on the top of a hill. C This past January, Captain Preet Chandi set foot on a historic, though decidedly icy trail by becoming the first woman of color to reach the South Pole alone, without assistance. C. To raise money for poor women. D Despite many public health campaigns to highlight various problems with sugary drinks, we drink them a lot. 34 What is the last paragraph mainly about? A The warning against the consumption of soft drinks. B. Suggestions on reducing the consumption of soft drinks. C. The importance of sports stars in advertising soft drinks. D. Plans to research into self-control of soft drink consumption. 35. In which section of a newspaper may this text appear? A. Entertainment. B. Health. C. Education. D. Sports. How to Choose Your Purpose-Filled Career When you think about choosing a career, you often do it in the following two ways. ____36____. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
