1
Mirroring body language is a way to bond and to build understanding. It is a powerful tool that we use without even knowing it.
The most obvious forms of mirroring are yawning and smiling. When you see someone yawn, you are likely to yawn immediately. Smiling is also pretty contagious — seeing a smile person makes you want to smile too.
Mirroring body language is a nonverbal way to say “I am like you or I feel the same.” Research shows that people who experience the same feelings are likely to trust, understand and accept each other. Women have the natural ability to pick up and understand body signals. Therefore, it is not surprising that a woman is more likely to mirror another woman than a man is to mirror another man. That’s why women are regarded as better talkers, even if they might not really have more close friends.
Mirroring body language is an excellent way to build trust and understanding quickly. If you want to set up a connection with others, mirror their gestures, sitting position, tone of voice and talking pace. This will make them feel that there is something about you that they like.
While mirroring body language gains you acceptance, you still need to take into consideration your relationship with the person you are mirroring. If you are in a lower social position and are mirroring the body language of your boss, he will view you as rude. However, if you want to defeat those who are trying to prove superior to you, mirroring their body language will help defeat them and change their position.
26. What does the underlined word “contagious” in paragraph 2 mean?
27. What can we know about women from the research?
A. They don’t like mirroring others.
B. They are naturally gifted in building trust.
C. They tend to have more close friends.
D. They are good at understanding body language.
28. What is the author’s attitude to the behavior of mirroring the boss?
A. Curious. B. Supportive. C. Disapproving. D. Doubtful.
29. What is the best title of the text?
A. The Excellent Method of Mirroring
B. The Common Forms of Mirroring
C. Nonverbal Communication: A Special Bond
D. Mirroring Body Language: A Useful Tool
2
Body language is an essential part of communication and can be just as important as our spoken language exchanges. Body language can be both conscious or unconscious actions, so it is important to make sure your body is sending the same messages as your words to ensure good communication. These actions can strengthen the verbal (口头的) messages you’re sending or it can lead to mistrust or confusion — signs of poor communication and misunderstanding.
Body language can make interacting with others and expressing yourself much easier, but it can also introduce new challenges. Some nonverbal signs unintentionally communicate parts of ourselves that we don’t want others to know. For example, bad posture or fidgeting (坐立不安) may communicate lack of confidence, something we may not intend for others to know about us. But body language can strengthen our verbal messages and solidify what we are telling others. Facing someone with eye contact or taking notes while someone is speaking can communicate genuine interest. Without these signs, teachers may not be able to assess a student’s understanding.
When you’re speaking sincerely, it’s natural for your body language to respond to your words through gestures or facial expressions. We also use gestures in conversations to tell stories or describe objects, often using hand signals to show how big or small something is. These are largely unconscious, naturally occurring forms of body language.
It can be difficult to communicate confidence in your actions when you may not feel it internally. When you display confident body language, such as good posture or eye-contact, even if you’re making a conscious effort, studies have shown that it can lead to feeling more confident. When speaking to others, practice controlling impulses to fidget and planting your feet confidently to increase self-esteem.
30. Why does the author give some examples in paragraph 2?
A. To show body language can help us all the time.
B. To tell body language can show the true side of us.
C. To explain how challenging it is to read body language.
D. To tell teachers how to assess a student’s understanding.
31. What does the author intend to tell in the last two paragraphs?
A. Hand signals are essential ways to make ourselves understood.
B. Naturally occurring forms of body language makes us confident.
C. Proper body language can help us a lot in gaining confidence.
D. When speaking to others, try your best to hide your body language.
32. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Knowing Your Friends with Body Language
B. Understanding Others by Body Language
C. Being Smart in Showing Your Body Language
D. Helping Communicate with Body Language

These are largely unconscious, naturally occurring forms of body language. 以及最后一段“It can be difficult to communicate confidence in your actions when you may not feel it internally. When you display confident body language, such as good posture or eye-contact, even if you’re making a conscious effort, studies have shown that it can lead to feeling more confident. When speaking to others, practice controlling impulses to fidget and planting your feet confidently to increase self-esteem.

These actions can strengthen the verbal (口头的) messages you’re sending or it can lead to mistrust or confusion — signs of poor communication and misunderstanding.
