阅读理解 (2024·烟台高二检测)At a comedy night at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, members of the school's StandUp Comedy Club bring lots of laughter to their classmates with funny speeches and humorous body movements. These college students' humour entertains busy, young people and eases their stress. Yet the club member Ariella Shua says comedy is serious work.Every comedy starts as an individual project—each member writes their own material. Then they try it out in weekly club meetings where all club members read the material,go joke by joke and see what works and what doesn't.Nothing unsatisfactory will be compromised(妥协).In this way comes a satisfying comedy. Ariella joined the club last year. Now she does not go anywhere without bringing something on which she can take notes.“Whenever I just have a thought in my head that seems like ‘Oh,this is strange.’ or when I see something or overhear someone saying something in the library,I just put it down,” Ariella explained.“Later, when I'm trying to write my own material,I go through my notes to see if there is anything that I can use.” President of the StandUp Comedy Club Nicholas Scandura finds that writing is one of the many skills he has developed since joining the club.“Writing jokes is really fun and it takes a lot of critical thinking,” he said. The club gives its members a sense of community. When they meet, they share funny experiences, tell jokes and laugh. Over the past ten years, standup comedy clubs have become common on college campuses in America.Nicholas said,“Now everyone wants to do it because the culture of standup has gotten a lot of media attention and become more popular.” Last year,Harry Kuperstein joined the club and discovered the club was a natural fit.Noticing the funny qualities of different situations improved his way of looking at the world.Becoming an active member also helped him work on the future skills he would need as a medical doctor.“Having jokes ready to go might help smooth over interactions between doctors and patients and make you a better public speaker,” he said. 1.What can a successful comedy be described as according to the text? A.A group effort. B.A personal project. C.A satisfying task. D.A compromise result. 2.What habit has Ariella formed since joining the club? A.Taking notes in class. B.Creating her own style. C.Becoming a good observer. D.Going to the library regularly. 3.How can the club help Harry in his opinion? A.By easing his stress of being a doctor. B.By preparing the ground for his career. C.By changing his way of communication. D.By developing his interest in public speaking. 4.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.Laughter Is Serious Work B.Humour Is an Edge in Jobs C.Comedy Comes with Learning D.Clubs Influence One's World View 【语篇解读】本文是一篇记叙文。 根据第二段中的“Every comedy starts as an individual project—each member writes their own material. Then they try it out in weekly club meetings where all club members read the material,go joke by joke and see what works and what doesn't.” 根据最后一段中的“Becoming an active member also helped him work on the future skills he would need as a medical doctor.(成为一名活跃的会员也帮助他培养了未来作为一名医生所需的技能。)” Ⅱ.七选五阅读 (2023·南通高二检测) Lighten up with Laughter Yoga They say that laughter is the best medicine.1. And it even helps protect you against a heart attack.Imagine being able to get all of these benefits even when there isn't much to laugh about. Young children don't feel selfconscious about laughing, but when do older people laugh?Usually only when we see or hear something funny. How would you feel if you saw an adult laughing at nothing?2. However,Dr Madan Kataria from Mumbai in India thinks that we should all make more effort to laugh, especially if we don't really feel like laughing.3. This means that it's possible to get all the benefits of genuine laughter just by pretending to laugh. 4. It is a system which combines the breathing techniques of yoga with a series of exercises designed to stimulate the laughter muscles. These activities make the body produce the natural effects of real laughter and have already helped thousands of people of all ages and fitness levels. Former clown(丑角) Anna Banana was delighted to find a therapy that separates laughter from humour.Because her job was to make other people laugh, the jokes weren't funny for her and she didn't often laugh herself.5. After reading Dr Kataria's book,Anna tried practising making the sounds of laughter.Eventually this became genuine laughter and years later she practises daily. She says,“For me,it's an antidepressive that has no adverse sideeffects. It's free, liberating and gives me an incredible sense of wellbeing.” A.Laughter can relieve stress, reduce pain. B.Dr Kataria then developed Laughter Yoga. C.So try your best to laugh as much as possible. D.Older people make loud noise when they laugh. E.You'd probably think that they were a bit strange and try to avoid them. F.A serious illness left Anna severely depressed until she discovered Laughter Yoga. G.He discovered that our bodies can't tell the difference between a real laugh and a false one. 1.A [解析]根据空后内容“And it even helps protect you against a heart attack.(它甚至可以帮助你防止心脏病发作。)” A项“Laughter can relieve stress, reduce pain.(笑可以缓解压力,减少痛苦。)” 故选A。 E项“You'd probably think that they were a bit strange and try to avoid them.(你可能会觉得他们有点奇怪,并试图避开他们。)” 3.G [解析]根据空后内容“This means that it's possible to get all the benefits of genuine laughter just by pretending to laugh.(这意味着我们可以通过假笑来获得真笑的所有好处。)” G项“He discovered that our bodies can't tell the difference between a real laugh and a false one.(他发现我们的身体无法分辨真笑和假笑。)” B项“Dr Kataria then developed Laughter Yoga.( Kataria博士随后编写了《大笑瑜伽》。)” Ⅲ.应用文写作 假定你是李华,你校要求以“Why We Need Humour in Our Life?” Why We Need Humour in Our Life? Ⅳ. On Tom's birthday, everything went on as usual. He was about to leave for school when his parents smiled,“Wait! We have something special for you.” Then, they handed Tom a pair of cool basketball shoes. Tom was so glad.“Happy birthday!” his parents said as he tried the shoes on.“These are not new.I got them from Mr.Byrne's secondhand shop, but they look pretty new, right?” Tom's mom added.“I don't care where they came from,Mom.These are amazing!Thank you!” Tom replied and hugged his parents. Tom came to school in these shoes. His friends immediately gathered, and considered his shoes cool.Tom gladly let them take turns trying on the shoes. That was when Brandon saw the words on the sole(鞋底) of one of the shoes. “There's something written here,” Brandon said, sitting down and taking off the shoes. Tom took the pair and read the words on the sole,“To my dearest boy.” “Your parent probably wrote that,” Brandon stated.Tom shook his head, replying,“This is not my parent's handwriting. It must be from the old owner's parent.” Tom then wondered who would have given up such pretty shoes.“Maybe these shoes have an unusual story,” he thought. When school ended,he reached Mr.Byrne's store and asked about the shoes. The old man tried to recall who had brought them over. Then he said,“Oh,these were brought in by Samuel around your age.He lives in a yellow wooden house nearby.” “Do you know why he sold them?” Tom asked.“Most people bring things here because they need money,” Mr.Byrne explained. Samuel was just one of such people. His dad had died weeks before, and his poor mother was sick and needed money for medicine(药).So he finally decided to sell his basketball shoes to support his mother though he loved the shoes. Not knowing the fact,Tom walked out of the store, thinking about the people who needed to give up their things for money.“If the boy who owned these shoes had done so,he was probably sad about it,” Tom whispered, and decided to learn about what had happened to the boy. Paragraph 1: He looked around the street and spotted Samuel's house. Paragraph 2: Then,Tom began removing his shoes before Samuel, deciding to return them to him. [参考范文] Paragraph 1: He looked around the street and spotted Samuel's house. It was a yellow wooden house, exactly as Mr.Byrne had described.Tom felt a mixture of emotions that a boy his own age had been forced to sell his beloved shoes because of poverty and hardship. He knocked on the door, nervous but also hopeful that he might be able to help.It was Samuel, the former owner of the shoes, that opened the door.“I think these are yours,”Tom said. Paragraph 2: Then,Tom began removing his shoes before Samuel, deciding to return them to him. “I hope things get better for you,” Tom added.Samuel stared at the shoes in his hand, tears forming in his eyes.“Thank you,” he whispered.“I ...I don't know how to repay you.” Tom smiled.“You don't have to repay me,” he said.“Just remember, there are people who care about you and your family. You're not alone.” He turned and walked away, hoping that his small act of kindness could make a difference in Samuel's life.
