Portugal’s most beautiful seaside destinations
The long coastline of Portugal is extraordinarily diverse. Wind your way along it and
you will find true Portugal, its history, its heart and its soul.
Cascais
Originally a little whitewashed fishing village, Cascais became a summer residence for
wealthy noblemen in the late 19th century. It is now a busy, modern town, but along its
shoreline, it still has palatial villas (富丽堂皇的别墅), many of which have been turned into
hotels, and its pretty town square and old streets have kept their character.
Comporta
This little village has, until recently, been a secret of the experts. With hotels now
starting to open, the locals make the most of it before the crowds come. Blue waters wash
such-picture-perfect white sands that it’s hard to believe you’re in Europe: walk the beach at
sunset, or weave your way on horseback through the green rice fields before a meal of the
freshest of fish on the seashore.
Zambujeira do Mar
Standing between the fierce Atlantic and the plains of the Alentejo, the little fishing
village of Zambujeira do Mar has one of the regions’ most beautiful beaches, backed by
high rock cliffs. For five days in August, one of Portugal’s biggest youth music festivals,
MEO Sudoeste, is held here. Dates for 2020 are August 4-8.
Lagos
White-washed Lagos manages to maintain its character and charm while offering a
lively nightlife for locals and tourists. An important naval centre in the 15th century, Lagos
was also capital of the Algarve from 1576-1756. Extensively damaged in the 1755
earthquake, the town now consists of mostly 18th and 19th-century buildings. Visit Santo
Antonio Church for its blue and white tiles and gilded (镀金的) woodwork.
16. Which place is still a destination full of mysteries?
A. Lagos. B. Comporta. C. Cascais. D. Zambujeira do Mar.
17. What is special about Zambujeira do Mar?
A. It is a remote village. B. It faces the Pacific Ocean.
C. It hosts a music festival. D. It lies on high rock cliffs.
18. When were most of the constructions in Lagos built?
A. 14-15th centuries. B. 15-16th centuries.
C. 16-17 th centuries. D. 18-19th centuries.

One night, as I was driving down the road, I found something was sitting in the middle of
the road. A few seconds later, I realized I was looking at a large turtle (海龟). Afraid of it
being crashed by cars, so I pulled over, ran across the road and dragged the turtle to safety.
But I’d made one big mistake.
I had heard that the best way to pick up a turtle without hurting it was picking it by the tail
in order not to get bitten. So I’d made that big mistake. While the turtle turned out OK
generally, I was determined to figure out how to move a turtle properly. I needed to find
someone who dealt with turtles. I found the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre. I talked to Dr.
Sue, its Executive and Medical Director.
Dr. Sue told me that the organization dealt with a number of aspects of turtle conservation,
including rescue, settlement, birth programs, research, and education. Sue explained that
southern Ontario is home to a vast majority of turtles in Canada, but is also one of the vastest
road networks of the country.
“Ninety percent of injured turtles brought in are caused by cars. These turtles spend a lot
of time on land. And they do travel many kilometers on land for a variety of reasons, to find a
nesting spot, or to hang out for the summer or winter. Turtles know where they want to go. So,
just keep them going in the direction they want to go and you may have saved a turtle’s life,”
Dr. Sue said.
Once an injured turtle arrives at the center, there are medical facilities (设备) ready to go,
including an X-ray machine. That’s when the team gets to work with healing injuries, and
help their patient.
19. Why did the author stop the car?
A. To see the thing clearly. B. To prevent a car accident.
C. To help the turtle. D. To find something good.
20. What did Dr. Sue suggest at last?
A. Making Ontario home to turtles. B. Leaving the turtles alone.
C. Changing the road conditions. D. Helping turtles find nesting spots.
21. What does the underlined word “patient” refer to in the last paragraph?
A. The turtle. B. The driver. C. The director. D. The author.

A large number of India’s urban(城区的) poor kids receive little or no education. Even
if they enter a formal school, their dropout rates are very high. Door Step School (DSS)
aims to bridge the huge gap between these kids and education.
4
True to its name, Door Step School sets up a school right at the doorstep of kids who
can’t get formal education due to a variety of reasons.
The team at DSS follows a direct model—they set up a classroom in any area, a
footpath, construction site, or underpass, where they foresee the greatest need. They look
for proper locations, and after making sure that enough resources are in place, they accept
students in the area. DSS provides lessons of different levels. The organization even tries to
provide classes in the local language, or whatever the students choose.
Another interesting project of DSS is a school on wheels. It uses a bus that has been
changed into a classroom, which holds about 25 kids at a time.
Since it was started in 1988, Door Step School has spread from Mumbai to the
neighbouring city of Pune in Maharashtra, covering a larger area and number of kids. Now
DSS has a team of more than 1,000 volunteers and teachers who change more than 70,000
lives each year.
DSS doesn’t end at kids. The organisation educates parents on the importance of
sending their kids to school. Its efforts have brought education to thousands of students in
the last two decades. Their belief in education for all has not only changed children’s lives
but also continued the fight against one of the biggest problems India faces. All children
have the right to an education, and DSS is providing just that.
22. Why is the organization named “Door Step School”?
A. It is different from formal schools.
B. It is usually built near formal schools.
C. It sets up schools in areas with large populations.
D. It provides education wherever children can easily go.
23. What can we learn about the lessons provided by “Door Step School”?
A. They are better than formal school lessons.
B. They include whatever a school can provide.
C. They suit children at different levels.
D. They are easy for kids to learn by themselves.
24. What is Paragraph 5 mainly about?
A. The development of Door Step School. B. The foundation of Door Step School.
C. The management of Door Step School. D. The future of Door Step School.
25. It can be inferred that one of the biggest problems India faces is that _______.
A. there are no formal schools B. many children receive no education
C. children refuse to attend schools D. the country is short of teachers

第二节(共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑,
选项中有两项为多余选项。
Playing sports is a lot of fun. Getting hurt is not. 26
Wear protective equipment.
The equipment you wear depends on the sport you play. Helmets (头盔) are the most
common protective equipment. They protect your head while you’re playing football,
baseball, softball, skateboarding, and so on.
Warm up.
27 Doing some stretches (伸展) can get you prepared to hit the field. By
warming up, you get yourself ready to play. Warming up and practicing a sport help keep
you safe, too.
Know the rules of the games.
Traffic lights help prevent crashes between the many cars that drive on the roads
together. This works because drivers know the rules and follow them — at least most of the
time. 28 When players know the rules of the game, fewer injuries happen. For
example, you know that in soccer you can’t come from behind, crash into a player’s legs,
and steal the ball. It’s legal and safer to go after the ball rather than the player.
29 .
This is a really important one. If you love sports, you may want to get back in the
games, even after an injury. But playing when you’re hurt is a bad idea. 30
Now you know how to prevent sports injuries. If you follow these rules, you can stay
safer while you are playing sports.
A. Don’t play when you’re injured.
B. Don’t do too much exercise.
C. It’s the same way with sports.
D. It can lead to an even worse injury.
E. It’s not a good idea to just go to the field and start playing.
F. You and the other players know what to expect from each other.
G. Take these steps to prevent injuries so you can stay in the game.

第二节 (满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As the mother of an eleven-year-old girl, I have read several books that tell parents
how to bring up a girl to be beautiful, elegant, confident, and rich. However, I have always
believed that girls need to be brave above all else, but this is easier said than done.
I remember one time when my daughter was watching TV and she switched to the
animal channel, which was broadcasting a show about snakes. I immediately backed away
from the TV, too scared to open my eyes. However, my little angel was not scared of snakes
like I was. In fact, she watched the show with a keen interest. Even to this day, she likes
challenging herself with new things.
This year, I got a chance to study in Singapore for six months. After the novelty(新奇)
of the first few days had gone, I found myself missing my family. With the summer
vacation approaching, my husband agreed to make good use of the fact that I was staying in
Singapore. He brought our daughter out to visit me so that she could enjoy new experiences
in a new country.
My husband and my daughter arrived in the second week of July. I was so looking
forward to seeing them. I had made many preparations for their visit. On the first day, I
arranged for us to see Gardens by the Bay. When we walked out of the MRT station, we
were amazed by the sight of the Supertrees. When my daughter saw lots of people walking
on the Skyway, she couldn't help shouting excitedly that she wanted to have a try. The
Skyway is a 22-meter-high suspension bridge from which you can enjoy a bird’s eye view
of the gardens. Last time I came here with my friends, I firmly rejected(拒绝) their repeated
attempts to challenge me to go up there. It was like the day with the snakes all over again.
But could I really reject my little angel?
