Dear Peter,
I am writing to share what my classmates and I think of the plastic surgery.
A small part of my classmates think it a good choice for people to improve their physical appearance and boost their confidence. However, most of my classmates hold a different opinion. They think the risk of injury in plastic surgery can’t be ignored by us. A failed surgery will make people look unnatural and they will be unable to make certain facial expressions.
As for me, our inner world is much more important than our appearance. So plastic surgery is unnecessary, and we should love ourselves just the way we are.

Passage 1
(2023-2024学年高一下·江西余姚·期中)My parents would not let me go to school that morning. “Why not?” I argued. “I have exams. I have work in Spanish class that I can’t miss!” My mother gave me a sad look. “You have to get a checkup(身体检查),” she explained. I screamed, “NO!” My father pulled me over to the couch. “Alison,” my father said in a tone that was quiet but powerful. “You’re in the state of malnutrition(营养不良). And you know that. You can have all in the world, but if you don’t have your health, you have nothing.” For some reason, I believed him. I hadn’t wanted it to be this way.
I was a girl who didn’t like doing sports but was fond of snack food. I weighed 50kg at my age of 14. Most of the time, I avoided parties with my friends, afraid of how ugly they would think I looked. One day, I found a slim girl on TV was so attractive that I wanted to look like her. I forced myself to do exercise and started going on a diet for a good-looking body shape. During the summer, I did weekly weigh-ins(称重) and kept a strict diet. I memorized the calories of almost everything that I may eat. My only goal was to lose weight. Later, when it became too cold to run outside, I restricted my calories even more to make up for not being able to burn them.
Gradually I lost my weight a lot. But things turned out to be worse. My hands were especially dry, peeling and wrinkled. My sister called them old people’s hands. Once, I went shopping with my mom. While we waited in line to pay for our items, I felt I was going to faint(昏厥). I felt dizzy and standing was getting harder and harder.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
As my mom tried to figure out which exit we should go through, she noticed my pale face. _____________

Passage 2
(2023-2024学年高一下·湖北孝感·开学考)
Already Perfect
Each one of us struggles with self-worth to some degree. I spent much of my time attempting to achieve perfection in every aspect of my life. What I didn’t realize was that in my efforts to be perfect, I almost lost my life.
During my childhood, I wanted everyone’s praise and acceptance. After I graduated from high school, my struggles with self-worth increased. I began to put pressure on myself to succeed in the adult world. Meanwhile, I wasn’t feeling very confident and successful. I started to believe that my difficulties and “failures” in life were caused by my weight. I had always been a thin-to-average sized person. Suddenly, I was convinced that I was overweight. In my mind, I was FAT!
Slowly, I began to control my food by trying to diet, but nothing seemed to work. I continued to reduce what I ate each day and told myself that I would succeed, and in turn, I felt good about myself.
People around me began to notice my weight loss. At first, they weren’t alarmed; maybe some were even envious. But then the comments showed some concern. “You’re losing too much weight.” “Elisa, you’re so thin.” “You look sick.” “You’ll die if you keep this up.” All their words only made me believe that I was on the right path, getting closer to “perfection.”
My poor nutrition (营养) began to cause me to lose sleep. I found it hard to concentrate on my work or to focus on anything for a long time. I was pushing myself harder and harder at the gym, struggling to burn fat. My parents tried to stop me but I disagreed that I had a problem. None of my clothes fit, and it was hard to buy any, since I had become too thin!
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Then one night, I couldn’t sleep again, and my heart beat its way out of my chest._____________________

Passage 3
(2023-2024学年高一上·安徽阜阳·期末) It is a challenging journey to change their lives for the best and get the healthiest they knew how to. Lexi and Danny lived their lives like most other young couples who fell in love with each other and then made the decision to spend the rest of their lives together. The couple spent a lot of time watching TV and going to different restaurants, and as you would imagine, the endless junk foods were their “go-to” choice. Though they would manage to lose some weight during the time, but before long, they would gain it back.
Lexi weighed a 485 pounds at the age of 25, a weight that was quite unbelievable to imagine. Danny, on the other hand, was also overweight himself even though he was 200 pounds less than Lexi. However, the sad part of everything was that they were both gaining more weight on what they already had with each passing day. Some of their daily activities, no matter how simple, became a real problem for the couple. They couldn’t go for walks or bicycle rides no matter how easy they were. However, in 2016 just after a year after the marriage, they decided to make a positive change in their life.
The couple decided to take on a challenge that would change their lives forever and for good! So many people make promises to themselves and others that they don’t really carry out but the couple were not about to do like the others. Theirs were destined (注定的) to come to reality. They made a detailed plan to go on a diet and take exercise on a daily basis. At first, they thought the whole process would have been a piece of cake. As they pressed on, each passing day showed them that this challenge would not be a walk in the park. They got a gym membership to help out.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The weight-losing lessons offered at the gym were not easy, a real challenge for them. __________________

【答案】
My View on Beauty
Nowadays, many people are doing plastic surgery or wearing excessive make-up to pursuit outward beauty. Some attempt to boost their confidence by removing freckles, changing the jawline or doubling eyelid. My roommates even acknowledge a stereotype that bizarre clothes from head to toe, skinny figure and exquisite lipstick are the real beauty.
I think they misjudge the beauty. As for beauty, I hold the opinion that an ordinary girl with righteous personality is more graceful than a beautiful girl with monstrous manner.
All in all, we should make an effort for true beauty by improving our inner qualities.

Dear Mary,
Learning that you are going on a diet to lose weight, I feel terribly sorry and I do regard it as inappropriate. I am writing to offer some constructive proposals.
Skipping meals or eating less does harm to you to a great extent, giving rise to the weakness both physically and mentally. Instead, working out regularly in the gym may be a much wiser alternative, which enables you to stay energetic and efficient. Additionally, I also highly recommend sleeping earlier and rising earlier, which is said to be of great use in controlling weight.
I do hope my suggestions above are of help and that you will get an ideal figure in a healthy way.

Dear Mike,
I’m sorry to know that you feel weak and often fall ill. Here, I’m writing to give you some advice.
First, you should have a balanced diet and enjoy breakfast every day. Additionally, it is of equal importance to take exercise regularly, which not only contributes to strengthening your bodies but also rids you of the stress from study. Most importantly, have enough sleep instead of staying up too late.
I’d be more than glad if my advice would be adopted and I sincerely hope that you can live a healthy life.

【答案】
As my mom tried to figure out which exit we should go through, she noticed my pale face. “Alison,” her voice sounded alarmed, but also far away. “You look like you’re going to pass out. Are you OK?” I couldn’t answer with more than a mumble. My mom was suddenly speeding things up, taking charge and locating the nearest exit. She told me to wait inside. She soon drove the car over and took me to the hospital. Later, I was told this was a symptom of malnutrition. I was told to visit the doctor twice a week.
Incidents (发生的事情) like the one in the store were in my thoughts as my parents had a talk with me that morning—the morning when I refused to see the doctor regularly. I finally decided to see the doctor instead of going to school. Dad was right—without health, nothing would I own, including that morning’s important exams or Spanish class. Before, I suffered a lot from my eating disorder and weakness. Now, I put my wants of a healthy body above the needs of a slim girl. Remembering the doctor’s advice, I add healthy foods to my meals and keep doing proper sports. I become both happy and strong.

【答案】
Then one night, I couldn’t sleep again, and my heart beat its way out of my chest. I tried to relax, but I couldn’t. The beating became so rapid and so strong that I could no longer breathe. Really scared and ill, I felt I was going to die. Knowing that help was needed, I stood up, went towards the door, and immediately fell down, letting out a cry of pain. Awakened by the unusual sound, my parents came in to see what had happened. Shocked and worried, they rushed me to the hospital. It took doctors and nurses several hours to bring me back to life.
When I lay on the hospital bed, I began to rethink what I did to my body. I decided to stop my foolish way of losing weight and pursuing perfection. Instead, I must be confident of myself and stay committed to being healthy. I now use my intelligence, talents and acts of kindness to express myself. This is true beauty, and it has nothing to do with the size of my body. With my experience of trying to be “perfect” on the outside, I had forgotten who I was on the inside. What I know now is that we are — each and every one of us — already perfect.

【答案】
Paragraph 1:
The weight-losing lessons offered at the gym were not easy, a real challenge for them. At first, no matter what efforts they made, they couldn’t keep at the pace of the other people in the class, because of their huge weight. Especially for Lexi, she was unable to get through with the lessons. However, the encouragement and support from their friends and family led them to keep up. They worked as a team, supporting each other, so none of them would fail. They kept up on the journey to lose weight.
Paragraph 2:
Just after a month, they both felt so much better, and they were pleased with the way they looked. Of course, this new feeling gave them a lot of confidence to keep pushing to achieve the final goal they were working for. Before long, their efforts began to pay off. Lexi was dropping about 20 pounds and Danny 11 pounds per month. Now the couple both have a good shape and enjoy a happy life. To keep up the gain, they are still taking exercise every day, however busy they are. Importantly, they keep off junk foods.
