In February 2024, in London, a group of dancers performed
a Chinese folk dance to celebrate Chinese New Year. They wanted
to share their culture and give people a special experience.
The dancers had colorful faces and each held two short sticks.
With the loud sound of drums, gongs, and shouts, the dancers walked
and danced, swinging the sticks.
The sixteen dancers that performed in London came from the Chaoshan region of South China's Guangdong Province. They wanted to spread wishes of good luck in the Year of the Loong to people in the United Kingdom.
"The performance is exciting. I feel like it has woken everybody up in the arcade," said Trupti Shah, commercial director of the Burlington Arcade.
The Puning Yingge dance, which is classified (将……归类)as a national intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in China, dates back to the Ming Dynasty and is considered the dance of warriors because of its close association (联系) with the famous Chinese novel called Water Margin, which is about brave heroes.
Chen Laifa, leader of the performers, explained that the dance combines opera, dance, and martial arts to show the fighting spirit of the characters in the novel. And it is usually performed during traditional Chinese festivals and is seen as a symbol of good defeating evil (邪恶) and bringing peace.
"We would like to spread this spirit to the British people and, at the same time, promote our own culture," Chen said.

In 1949, Ye Wen moved to Hong Kong. His good friend, Li Min,
introduced him to the chairman(主席)of the Hotel Association,
Liang Xiang, who was also a martial arts lover. When Liang Xiang
learned that Ye Wen was a student of Chen Huashun in Wing Chun,
he quickly sought to learn from him and invited him to teach it publicly at the Hotel Association on Big Street in Sham Shui Po, Kowloon.
Gradually, more and more people wanted to become students to learn the skill. This heartwarming artwork is just a small part of the imaginative
world of Zhang Mingxiang, a 26-year-old artist from a village in
Shandong Province, East China.
Zhang's artworks are based on things that happen every day and puns (双关语) in Chinese pronunciation. His creative drawings have won over 6million fans on different social media platforms and he has sold more than 60,000 pieces on a video platform called bilibili.
"I believe that today's youths have their own thoughts and are good at expressing themselves. And my artworks serve as encouragement for those who have just started working, providing a channel for emotional expression, *"Zhang said.
However, Zhang's path to art was far from straightforward. He was born in a rural village where his father made a living as a barber and by renting out comic books. Zhang's interest in painting came from those comic books.

Later, he decided to use Chinese ink brushes to draw, adding more creativity and vibrancy (活力) to his work, which made him popular online.
