____12____. Each box costs little money but has a lot of food inside. They are more and more popular in China’s cities, such as Beijing, Nanjing and Chengdu.
Back in 2021 when I was studying in the UK I bought leftover blind boxes from an app called Too Good To Go. Each box cost about 3 to 5 pounds (27 to 45 yuan), and there were usually three to four things inside. For example, a box I bought from the coffee shop Costa had three kinds of bread and one cake. ____13____.
Every time I bought a blind box, the excitement of opening it hit me first. ____14____. Wasting less food is also good for the environment.
But the boxes also brought me problems. ____15____. Also, the food may not be healthy enough. I had to make other dishes, such as a salad to make the meal healthier.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is one of the greatest works by Mark Twain. The book is so interesting. Even today, it is ___16___ popular among kids. Although I am in my thirties, the book remains one of my favorites. After re-reading the book recently, I have ___17___ an important lesson from Tom Sawyer.
In our daily lives, we are often given some boring or tiring tasks. What’s in your ___18___ when your mom tells you to clean the floor? Have you ever wanted to complain? I think most people have.
Tom Sawyer, however, thought “___19___” when he was given a boring task. One Saturday morning, Aunt Polly told Tom to paint the fence (篱笆). Tom’s friend Ben Rogers happened to walk past. Instead of complaining, Tom told Ben that he felt “___20___” about the task. “Only one in a thousand—maybe even two thousand—boys can do this!” Tom said.
Tom’s ___21___ made Ben interested in the task. He even gave Tom his apple so that he could have a chance (机会) to ___22___ the fence. If Tom had thought about ___23___ but complaining, he would have had a bad day painting the fence.
This story teaches me a valuable lesson: Complaining (抱怨) is ___24___. The next time you are given a boring or tiring task, don’t complain. Unlike what happens in the story of Tom Sawyer, it is unlikely that someone will come and do the work for you. However, without complaining, you’ll feel ___25___ and perhaps even do a better job!

He said that it was a shame that he had no time to go back to his hometown.
Besides Zhong Wei, Linlin also lives far from her hometown with her parents. She has to choose to part with her grandparents in the countryside. Last week, her parents ___29___ (take) her to the Hangzhou National Tea Museum. It was a relaxing ___30___ peaceful place near a lake. They watched how to make a perfect cup of tea. It reminded Linlin of her grandpa who enjoys drinking tea and ___31___ (collect) tea sets. It also encouraged her ___32___ (learn) more about Chinese culture.
Although many people like Zhong Wei and Linlin are not in their hometowns, they have discovered some good changes in their hometowns. They know that their hometowns have developed ___33___ (rapid). You may think you can’t live in summer with no air conditioners (空调). ①But in ancient China, hand fans were the only help for people to keep cool. Chinese people started to use hand fans about 2000 years ago.
The fans have different shapes, like round and square. They are usually made from all kinds of things. Palm leaf (棕榈叶) fans are cheap and easy to make. Sandalwood (檀香) fans have a sweet smell.
Now, hand fans are not just something for people to cool down. They become artworks. Tuanshan and zheshan are the most popular.
Tuanshan is like a full moon. There are beautiful birds and flowers on tuanshan. In ancient China, women liked to use it. Poets (诗人) often use tuanshan to describe a woman’s unlucky life. Nalan Xingde wrote, “If only life were as beautiful as when we first met, why should the autumn wind bother (费心) to pity (怜悯) deserted (遗弃的) painted fan?”
