I hate losses. Two months ago, I went crazy when I looked for the wallet I’d lost. Checking every pocket, I got increasingly anxious. The money, the credit cards, the driver’s license, and the social security card in my wallet kept flashing through my mind. Whoever found the wallet could steal my identity, run up huge expenses, and put me in financial danger!
My heart was pounding. I felt so flustered that I didn’t go to work, not knowing what to do. Subsequently, I called the credit card companies and canceled my cards. Then I realized that I drove without a license, so I took time off to go to the registry to get a new one.
That night, I couldn’t sleep. I had a pain in my chest. I thought I was having a heart attack. After a couple of hours of tests at the hospital, I was told that it was just an anxiety attack. Losing my wallet was no big deal; I just had to cancel the cards, get a new license, and buy a new wallet. I lost a few bills, but so what? However, I was deeply troubled by it.
Frankly, we all hate losses. Daniel Kahneman, an Israeli psychologist, found that people are generally more afraid of losing things than they’re eager to gain. This phenomenon is called loss aversion (厌恶). In a typical study, when people were asked if they would rather get $500 for sure or a lottery ticket (彩票) with a 50-50 chance of winning $1000, they generally chose the former. But when they were asked if they would rather lose $500 for sure or get a lottery ticket that offers 50 percent chance of losing$1000, most people chose to take the risk. In both cases, the chances are the same but people’s choices are different.
In fact, the emotions associated with loss formed a long time ago. Loss was always frightening and damaging for people then, and it’s still with us. Indeed, that’s why I blew the simple loss of a wallet out of proportion.
4 What happened to the author two months ago?
A. He faced a financial crisis. B. He suffered a heart attack.
C. He lost his wallet. D. He was blamed by his boss.
5. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “flustered” in paragraph 2?
A. Embarrassed. B. Tired. C. Strange. D. Upset.
6. What can be inferred from paragraph 4?
A. It is hard to win the lottery.
B. People tend to lose less in order to get more later.
C. It is worth taking risks to get a small fortune.
D. People prefer avoiding losses to getting possible benefits.
7. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the story?
A. To explain what loss aversion is. B. To complain about his misfortune in his life.
C. To provide advice on protecting personal property. D. To persuade people to concentrate on their work.
C
Insecticides (杀虫剂) containing flupyradifurone and sulfoxaflor, chemicals considered harmless to bees and bumblebees when approved, can have damaging effects on the health of honeybees. The chemicals are more likely to make bees suffer from diseases and shorten their lifespan. This was proven in a scientific study that was published in Science of the Total Environment. It was conducted at Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg(MLU) and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ).
For the study, honey bees that were free from environmental influences were first bred (培育) in the lab. “We wanted to control every respect of the bees’ lives,” says Dr. Yahya Al Naggar, the biologist who led the project at MLU and who now works at Tanta University in Egypt. All bees were given the same food at first. They were then divided into several groups and different insecticides were added to their food. One group was given flupyradifurone, while another was given sulfoxaflor. Both chemicals are approved insecticides in Germany, although their use is now limited to greenhouses.
Over a period of ten days, the team observed whether the insecticides had any effect on the bees and, if so, what. They found that the insecticides were anything but harmless: Around half of all the bees whose diet included flupyradifurone died during the study. While sulfoxaflor produced similar effects, more bees survived the diet.
As the study was conducted in a lab to avoid external influences, it is unclear whether the same results can be found in nature. “The bees might be able to fully or at least partly make up for the negative effects——or the effects of the insecticides could well be even greater,” concludes Dr Tesfaye Wubet from UFZ. With this in mind, the team calls for the potential effects of new insecticides on beneficial insects to be researched better before the insecticides are approved.
8. What did the researchers do in the beginning of the research?
A. They raised bees in their lab.
B. They measured the bees’ sizes.
C. They collected bees from various places.
D. They gave the bees different kinds of food.
9 Which of the following would the researchers probably agree on?
A. Research on insects should be done in nature.
B. The number of bees in nature will greatly drop.
C. New insecticides need more research.
D. Insecticides should be prevented from being used.
10. Which would be a suitable title for the text?
A. Are Bees Really Beneficial Insects?
B. Are Approved Insecticides Really Harmless?
C. Are Insecticides More Harmful in Nature?
D. Are Insecticides on Market Effective?

52. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It’s the first time for Kiley and I to do something for Tag Day(募捐日). We were not sure if we could really raise money by going up to some strangers' houses and asking to make a donation. We sat down on the blue carpeted floor of the band room where everyone was waiting for their name to be called to see which group they were in. Kiley and I looked at each other nervously.
Luckily, Mrs Rupert, our orchestra(管弦乐队) teacher, called both of our names and some other girls’ names to bunch us together. Our group stepped out of the band room with an adult who would drive us around the neighborhood. But as another adult handed us sweaters to wear for the day, I didn't want to do that anymore.
“Ewww... it’s so ugly!” Kiley commented. “It's huge! Even a dinosaur could fit into this.” Indeed, it was a misty gray color with oversized sleeves and a small logo at the top corner for our Robinson Marching Band.
Even so, we forced ourselves into those ugly sweaters and went out to the car. At least we weren’t the only ones that looked funny. All of us in the band had to wear our uniforms which looked really uncomfortable.
“OK, girls, here is the neighborhood. You guys will start here and...” I wasn’t paying any attention to what the driver was saying and I could tell Kiley was either. We were just looking out to the houses soon we would have to knock on. Butterflies were flying around in my stomach and I wished that they would be gone. Kiley and I got out of the car and took one side of the neighborhood while the other girls took the other. As Kiley and I approached our first house, we were quickly rehearsing(排练) our speech before we knocked.
“OK, you say this and I say that,” Kiley said.
“Do you want to start?” I asked. But I could tell Kiley wanted me to start.
I was nervous enough already and Kiley had to literally push me to the doorstep. As my hand reached out, I put a big smile on my face hoping that they would make a donation.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 100左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

4. What happened to the author two months ago?
【答案】4. C 5. D 6. D 7. A

9. Which of the following would the researchers probably agree on?
【答案】8. A 9. C 10. B

主旨大意题。通读全文,根据第一段的“Insecticides containing flupyradifurone and sulfoxaflor, chemicals considered harmless to bees and bumblebees when approved, can have damaging effects on the health of honeybees. (含有氟吡喃醌和亚砜的杀虫剂经批准后被认为对蜜蜂和大黄蜂无害,但会对蜜蜂的健康产生破坏性影响。这些化学物质更有可能使蜜蜂患上疾病,缩短它们的寿命。发表在《整体环境科学》上的一项科学研究证实了这一点。这项研究是在哈雷——维滕贝格马丁·路德大学和亥姆霍兹环境研究中心进行的。)”和最后一段的“With this in mind, the team calls for the potential effects of new insecticides on beneficial insects to be researched better before the insecticides are approved. (考虑到这一点,该团队呼吁在批准杀虫剂之前,对新杀虫剂对有益昆虫的潜在影响进行更好的研究。) ”可知,被认为对蜜蜂和大黄蜂无害的杀虫剂实际上会对蜜蜂的健康和寿命产生破坏性影响,本文对已批准的杀虫剂安全性提出了质疑,因此B项(批准使用的杀虫剂真的无害吗?)适合作为标题。故选B。

【答案】
Getting to Know the Cultural Inheritor Around Us
Last Friday, our school organized an inspiring journey to explore the cultural heritage in our local community, where we had the privilege of meeting the inheritors of traditional arts and crafts.
We visited several inheritors, including a local calligraphy master, a traditional music performer and a skilled pottery maker. From them, we witnessed their dedication to the preservation of these time-honored arts and felt deeply inspired by their commitment to passing down these traditions to future generations. Additionally, we learned to make some pieces of pottery from the pottery maker.
This experience has broadened our horizons and enriched our understanding of our cultural heritage. And we realized that we should make every effort to protect these invaluable cultural treasures.

【答案】
A woman with black hair came to the door. She looked middle-aged, just waiting for us to say something. “Hi, we are from the Robinson Marching Band!” I looked at Kiley, expecting she would say the rest, but she was too nervous to move. I had to continue. “We would really appreciate it if you would make a donation on Tag Day.” I feared the answer would be no. To my great surprise, the woman said OK without hesitation and handed over ten dollars to us. We couldn’t believe we had just done it, screaming excitedly and expressing our gratitude. Now we were confident enough to approach each house. We had a fun time running for charity and laughing along. I was already planning on doing this the next year and I was sure that I would be more confident.
