(2024届福建省泉州市实验中学等四校联考)
On Feb.23,an environmental advocacy group "Grassroots"led by students hosted its
monthly clothing exchange. The clothing exchange is a free activity on campus where students
can donate clothes in exchange for new ones.
食
“One of the key things about sustainability(可持续性)is to reuse,.”Crystal Tynon,Co
president and Clothing Exchange Chair, said."Instead of throwing away old clothes and buying
new clothes, you can donate them and give them a new purpose. You might be done with those
clothing items, but someone else might not be.
p
According to Tynon,"Grassroots"is hoping to expand the aetivities to other schools. In
那
order to do so,the team is brainstorming new ways to get the word out about donations, hours
and events. Now,the clothing exchange is one of the club's most well-known activities.
"Throughout the semester when people realize we have these exchanges, they genuinely bring
clothes and participate a lot more.So it does make a difference to clothing sustainability and it
如
does create a community where everyone can share their clothes,"she added.
蚁
As "Grassroots"is an initiative dedicated to sustainability, paper advertisement is not an
option.Instead, the center relies mostly on word-of-mouth and e-mail announcements. It is
bringing speakers to campus to talk about sustainability and environmental advocacy. It also has
partnerships with local organizations such as "the Sunrise Rochester",working together to have
volunteers become more involved in local sustainability.
黄
Chloe Mendoza has been a volunteer since her freshman year. Not only does Mendoza
appreciate the intended mission of promoting sustainability, but she also thinks the center has
transformed into a safe and accepting community space for all students. Those who have come in
looking for something practical often end up leaving with an armful of clothing and a heart full of
warmth.
"My favorite part about working there is that we get to help people find things that they
need for free.Just providing a place for students to go where there isn't pressure to spend money
57
is really important.A lot of students love saving,so it's something that students can relate and engage
with easily,so I think it's a really easy way to get students more involved in sustainability,"says
Mendoza.
1.Which of the following best describes Tynon's feelings about their clothing exchange?
A.Impressive.
B.Innovative.

B.It cooperates with local institutions.
C.It invites speakers to be volunteers.
D.It earns instant fame in the community.
3.What does Mendoza think is an additional benefit of the clothing exchange?
A.It brings spiritual comfort.
B.It widens the circle of friends.
C.It reduces academic pressure.
D.It gives a sense of achievement.
4.Which of the following could be the best title for the text?
A.Saving Up Through Clothing Exchange
B.Engaging Students in“Grassroots'”Events
C.Clothing Exchange Is the Only Way forSustainability

(2024届山东省济宁市高三模拟)There will be more plastic than fish in the world's oceans
by 2050.That is what a new report from the World Economic Forum and Ellen MacArthur
Foundation warns. If the current trend continues, the report said, oceans will contain one ton of
plastic for every three tons of fish in 2025.By 2050,plastics will weigh more than fish. The
problem is that each year at least 8 million tons of plastics end up in oceans around the world.
This is the same as dumping the contents of one garbage truck into the ocean every minute.
Not all plastic ends up in the ocean because someone throws a plastic bottle into the water.
Plastic containers and other trash thrown onto streets and sidewalks often are swept into oceans.
Unlike other types of trash in the ocean, the plastic never bio-degrades.There is a way to slow
the amount of plastics going into the oceans-people can recycle more.Currently only about 14
percent of plastics are recycled.Research in Europe shows as much as 53 percent of plastic could
be recyeled using available technology. The report says that another solution is using less plastic
for packaging products. But that is not likely to happen.
-58
"Given plastic packaging's many benefits, both the possibility and desirability of an across-
the-board dramatic reduction in the volume of plastic packaging used is clearly low,"the report
said. But the authors note reducing the use of plastics should be tried"where possible."For
decades, scientists warned that plastics are killing fish.Research shows that fish are dying from
choking after eating plastics.Another cause of death is that plastics cause "intestinal blockage
and starvation,"the environmental group said.
5.Why is the garbage truck mentioned in Paragraph 1
A.To explain how plastics end up in the ocean.
B.To warn people against the ocean pollution.
C.To clarify the seriousness of the problem.
D.To point out some details of the report.
6.Why is plastic more dangerous than other types of trash?
A.There is too much of it.
B.It poisons the ocean water.
C.It is from different sources.
D.It is hard to break down.
7.What is the author's attitude to the suggested solutions?
A.Pessimistic.
B.Curious.
C.Unconcerned.
D.Terrified.
8.What can we infer from the text?
A.People are not aware of the problem.
B.Recycling is limited by lack of technology.
C.Plastic packaging has become part of our life.
D.Fish in the ocean will be replaced by plastics.
C
(2024届湖北省高中名校联盟高三第二次联合测评)Farming is destroying the planet,but
there could be a much more environmentally friendly way to feed ourselves:using renewable
energy to turn carbon dioxide into food."This is becoming a reality",says Pasi Vainikka at Solar
Foods,a company that is building the first commercial-scale factory that will be able to make
food directly from CO2.
There can be no doubt that immediate attention to find greener ways to grow food is
required.Conventional agriculture, including organic farming, causes damage to the environment
in many ways.It requires a lot of land, leading to habitat loss and deforestation. It is also the
source of a third of all greenhouse gas emissions and releases other pollutants. It isn't very
efficient, either.Crops typically transform less than I percent of light energy into usable biomass
(生物量).
59
Instead,Solar Foods plans to avoid photosynthesis(光合作用)altogether, and grow
bacteria that use hydrogen as their source of energy. At the factory, renewable electricity will be
used to split water to produce hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen will be added to large
containers, where the bacteria grow, along with CO.and ammonia ()The end result will
be a yellow powder called Solein.
Solein is made of bacterial cells and is up to 70 percent protein. It can be used as an
ingredient in all kinds of foods."We are aiming at replacing animal-sourced proteins, which we
think have the highest environmental impact,"says Vainikka.
Compared with plant crops,Solein will use 100 times less water per kilogram of protein
produced,20 times less land and emit a fifth as much CO,according to Solar Foods. There are
other benefits, too:factories could be situated anywhere in the world and production won't be
affected by weather conditions.
"With Solar Foods and other companies scaling up their systems, this is truly beginning a
new era of agriculture,"says Dorian Leger at Connectomix Bio in Germany."I think these trends
are exciting and will help bend the carbon curve as well as lead to improved global food supply
security..”
9.What is the author's purpose in mentioning conventional agriculture in Paragraph 2?
A.To demonstrate its influence on crops.
B.To compare different farming methods.
C.To provide an example of agricultural types.
D.To highlight the urgent need for alternatives.
10.What is mainly presented in Paragraph 3 concerning Solein?
A.Its storage condition.
B.Its production process.
C.Its ingredient materials.
D.Its investment potential.
11.All of the following are the features of Solein except
A.it is protein-rich
B.it is resource-efficient
C.its production is weather-sensitive
D.its production is location-independent
12.Which statement would Dorian Leger probably agree with?
A.The prospect of Solein remains to be seen.
B.Solein can help achieve global food safety.
C.Solein will dominate the agricultural development.
D.The use of Solein may help reduce carbon emissions.

(2o24届辽宁省抚顺市六校协作体高三模拟)Research has found that using wood for
construction instead of concrete and steel can reduce emissions. But Tim Searchinger at Princeton
University says many of these studies are based on the false foundation that harvesting wood is
carbon neutral(碳中和).“Only a small percentage of the wood gets into a timber(木料)product,.
and a part of that gets into a timber product that can replace conerete and steel in a building,"he
says.Efficiencies vary in different countries, but large amounts of a harvested tree are left to be
divided into parts, used in short-lived products like paper or burned for energy, all of which
generate emissions.
In a report for the World Resources Institute,Searchinger and his colleagues have modelled
how using more wood for construction would affect emissions between 2010 and 2050,
accounting for the emissions from harvesting the wood. They considered various types of forests
and parts of wood going towards construction. They also factored in the emissions savings from
replacing concrete and steel.
Under some circumstances, the researchers found significant emissions reductions. But each
case required what they considered an unrealistically high portion of the wood going towards
construction,as well as rapid growth only seen in warmer places, like Brazil. In general, they
found a large increase in global demand for wood would probably lead to rising emissions for
decades.Accounting for emissions in this way,the researchers reported in a related paper that
increasing forest harvests between 2010 and 2050 would add emissions equal to roughly 10
percent of total annual emissions.
Ali Amiri at Aalto University in Finland says the report's conclusions about emissions from
rising demand are probably correct, but the story is different for wood we already harvest.
"Boosting the efficiency of current harvests and using more wood for longer-lived purposes than
paper would cut emissions,"he says."We cannot just say we should stop using wood."
13.What is wrong with previous researches according to Searchinger?
A.They got wrong statistics.
B.They used an incorrect concept.
C.They included too many factors.
D.They were applied in limited countries.
14.What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.The process of the new research.
B.The background of the new study.
C.The challenge of the new research.
D.The achievements of the new study.
61-
15.When will the emissions drop off greatly according to the new study?
A.When wood grows slowly.
B.When wood is largely used to make paper.
C.When wood is largely used to build a house.
D.When wood is largely harvested in countries like Brazil.
16.What is Ali Amiri's attitude toward the new result?
A.Favorable.
B.Doubtful.
C.Critical.
D.Objective.
