B On May 21st, 2022, Tom Turcich of New Jersey became the 10th person to walk around the world. Over seven years, he walked 48,000 kilometers across 38 countries. Turcich said after a friend died at age 17, he started to look at life differently, and decided to go on a journey around the world. It took over eight years to save and plan before Turcich finally left his home on April 2nd, 2015. About four months into the journey, Turcich adopted (收养) a dog, Savannah, from an animal center in Texas. She joined him for the rest of the trip. The pair walked around 30—40 kilometers a day, spending most nights camping. Some parts could not be done on foot, however—such as when Turcich and Savannah took a boat from Uruguay to Antarctica. In late 2017, Turcich had to return home to recover from an illness he got while traveling through Ireland and the UK. He and Savannah started walking again in May 2018, going through Europe, North Africa and Tirkiye before getting stuck (困于) in Azerbaijan for six months because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They were able to travel to Kyrgyzstan before taking a plane to Seattle (西雅图). From there, they walked back to New Jersey. Turcich said the most difficult place to walk through was “desolate (荒凉的)” Wyoming. Now that he’s back home, Turcich says he wants to stay in one place for a while and write a book about his trip. 31. What did Turcich do before his journey around the world? A. He kept a pet dog. B. A man spends seven years making his dream come true D. A man wants to stay in one place for a while C When I was a new junior high school student in autumn, 1980, God gave me a gift, and it was happiness. One weekend, I went to visit my grandparents in the countryside. On my way home a car ran over me and cut off my arms because of its high speed. Several days later when I woke up at the hospital, I realized I had to spend the rest of my life without arms. How sad I felt at that time! At first, I was full of fears. But slowly I knew I had to face the fact and got over it. I couldn’t get my arms back even though I cried every day. However, it’s easier said than done. It took me nearly half a year to get out of the sadness completely. In our daily life, I often see my classmates get worried about little things: they get a bad grade on a test; their bus comes late; they don’t have a mobile phone but others have and so on. But I only enjoy life. I was lucky to realize from the accident: It is a waste of our life to think about what you have lost. We should always think of what we have. Happiness depends on what we have! It’s in our heart. It’s a state of mind (心境), even though you own the whole world, you may still feel unhappy. Happiness comes from mastering the art of appreciating (感激) and taking pleasure in what you really have 36. How old is the writer now according to what you infer (推断) from the story? A. In his thirties. B. In his forties. C. In his fifties. D. In his sixties. 37. How long did the writer spend in getting out of the sadness completely? A. Several days. B. A week. C. The rest of his life. D. Almost six months. 38. How many little things that his classmates get worried about are mentioned? A. Three. B. Four. C. Five. D. Six. 39. Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the passage? A. Happiness is a state of mind. B. As long as we have the whole world, we will feel happy. C. If we take pleasure in what we really have, we may get real happiness. D. If we master the art of appreciating, we may know what real happiness is. 40. What can we learn from the passage? A. Happiness is a gift. B. Happiness depends on what we don’t have. C. You own the whole world, you will be happy. D. Happiness comes from mastering the art of appreciating. D As the weather gets warmer, there are few things that are better to do than travel. But traveling might not be that fun for everyone, especially for those who have motion sickness. Motion sickness is also called travel sickness. It is a common experience for many people. Depending on how you travel, it can be called carsickness or seasickness. People with motion sickness feel very uncomfortable while they are in motion. They feel sick and dizzy, like the room around them won’t stop spinning. It is generally believed that motion sickness happens when your senses (感知) become confused (困惑) with each other, Scientific American reported. We use different parts of our body to sense movement. Our eyes tell us if we are moving. The inner ears contain a special liquid that helps us sense our direction and balance. Our muscles react to movement. When you move around, these body parts work well together. But when you are in a car or an airplane, they get confused. Your inner ear signals that you’re moving, but your eyes say you’re sitting still because you can’t see that you’re moving. This mismatch gives us motion sickness. But some people are less sensitive (敏感的) to motion sickness. This may be because they have certain genes that prevent mismatching senses, Bethann Hromatka, a genetics expert from the US, told the Atlantic. Although there are many ways to deal with motion sickness, scientists believe that the key is to simply try to adapt to it. For example, some astronauts do special exercises that give them mild motion sickness. After a week or two, the astronauts become used to it and don’t feel uncomfortable anymore, Sam Puma, a NASA flight doctor, told the BBC. 41. People with motion sickness feel very uncomfortable while they are ________. A. sleeping B. driving C. in motion D. in bed 42. According to paragraph 3, if your senses become confused with each other, ________. A. you may have cold B. you may have motion sickness C. you cannot drive D. you should sleep 43. The special liquid in the inner ears can sense ________. A. movement and sickness B. direction and balance C. movement and balance D. direction and movement 44. What’s the meaning of “adapt” in the last para. A. 提高 B. 处理 C. 治愈 D. 适应 45. What’s the purpose of the passage? A. To introduce motion sickness. B. To introduce sickness. C. To introduce gene. D. To introduce the parts of body. The Rules of the Family Hotel First _____46_____ is not allowed in all the rooms. You may sometimes find it hard to remember your number. That’s because China has the longest mobile phone numbers in the world. Why is that? The 11 digits can be divided into three parts. Each part has a different meaning. The first three numbers tell you which mobile phone service provider (提供者) you are using. For example, 135 is for China Mobile Communications Corporation and 188 is for China Unicom. The fourth to the seventh digits tell you where the number is registered (注册). And the last four digits are random (随机的). The main reason for using 11 digits is that we have the largest population in the world. We once had 10 numbers. But as our population grew, there were not enough numbers for us to use. So we began to use 11 digits starting from 1999. Eleven digits can be used to make tens of billions of mobile phone numbers. That’s enough for each person to have seven or eight phone numbers to use in China. And mobile phone numbers can be recycled. Usually, the service provider will reuse a canceled number after three to six months. If you call a number that you haven’t contacted (联系) for a long time, you may find that its owner has changed. Besides China, Britain and Japan also use 11-digit mobile phone numbers. But their numbers always start with 0. So they cannot create as many numbers as we can. Countries like the United States, Australia and India use phone numbers with 10 digits. Canada’s mobile phone numbers are perhaps the shortest in the world: they use seven digits. A.根据短文内容回答问题。 71. Happiness comes from mastering the art of appreciating (感激) and taking pleasure in what you really have. 36. A. 41. Your number has 11 digits. What can we know from your mobile phone number? ___________________________________________________________________________________________ 72.
