Bassanio looked at the three boxes, but he did not read the writing on them. He looked at the gold and silver (银).
“The world is tricked by appearances,” he said. “People often hide ordinary (普通的) things with beautiful gold and silver. People always agree with those who speak well. Many people who seem brave are really cowards.” Then Bassanio remembered the story of Midas, the man who loved gold too much. He wanted everything to be gold. He wished that he could make everything gold by touching it. When he could, it was a disaster. He could not eat his golden food, and he was afraid to touch his daughter. “No, I do not want these beautiful boxes of gold and silver. I will choose the lead (铅) box with its ordinary color. It speaks more to me than all the gold and silver in the world. Please give me the key to the lead box. Let happiness be mine.” Bassanio said to himself.
One of the servants (仆人) gave him the key, and he went to the box and opened it. Portia was pleased. She could not believe it, until Bassanio opened the box and saw the picture of Portia inside it. When he saw the picture, he loved her even more because the picture was very beautiful. He wondered how anyone could paint such a good picture of her. It was as beautiful as Portia herself. He looked at all the parts of the picture. He looked at the eyes and the hair. All of them were perfect. But Portia herself was even more beautiful than her picture.
The writing inside the box told him that he had chosen the right box. It said that he should go to Portia and look into her eyes. She would be his wife. Bassanio could not believe it. “Is it really true?” he asked. “Will you really be my wife? I am afraid to believe it until you say so.”

Mesa Verde lies in the southwestern part of Colorado in the United States. Mesa Verde is a hill that looks like a “green table”. It was the home of the Pueblo people for about seven hundred years, from about 550 to 1300.
The Pueblo people first lived in caves. Then they made houses by digging holes in the ground. These people planted corn and beans. They were also good at making pottery (陶器) which has lasted a long time.
In the 8th century, the Pueblo people moved to the top of the mesa. They built houses with many rooms. They lived there for about six hundred years. Later, they moved into the cliffs (悬崖) on the sides of the mesa. Maybe they moved there to protect themselves from enemies (敌人).
As many as five thousand people may have lived at Mesa Verde. Unluckily, within a few years, no one was left. It is believed that they left because of years and years of dry weather. After a long time, they couldn’t grow enough food for everyone.
No one knew about Mesa Verde for hundreds of years. In the mid-to-late 19th century, some cowboys (牛仔) began to explore the ruins (遗迹). They weren’t trained archaeologists (考古学家), but they realized the importance of Mesa Verde. They collected artifacts, like the pottery and tools made by the Pueblo people. The cowboys wanted the United States to make Mesa Verde a national park.
Mesa Verde became a national park in 1906. It was the first park in the United States to “protect the works of man”. If you visit Mesa Verde, you can see some of its six hundred cliff houses. ①What would you like for lunch? Maybe, a battery (电池)? Although it sounds unusual, this has already been realized by scientists as they develop electronic (电子的) things you can eat.
②Robofood, a program led by Dario Floreano from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, Switzerland, has been the trailblazer. Together with scientists from Wageningen University, the Netherlands, it has made a new drone (无人机). Half of the parts inside can be eaten! The program plans to create robots that can be eaten and foods that act like robots by mixing food science and robots in a new way.
③According to the scientists, the wings of the drone were made from rice cakes glued together using oil and chocolate. This drone can find missing people or animals in sudden serious and dangerous situations, and carry important food or medicine to them. Parts of the drone can be eaten since they meet food safety standards set up by the United Nations for emergencies.
④However, the main challenge is finding stronger edible (可食用的) materials for the drone’s wings to prepare for bad weather and high temperatures—of course, the chocolate may melt (融化) easily.
⑤Robofood also developed an edible sensor to help watch stomach sickness. It’s eaten by the patient to check the conditions inside. Unlike other sensors out there today, it’s designed to be easily digested (消化), lowering the risk of leaving any remains inside the body.
⑥The invention of Robofood also helps with environmental protection. The world’s first fully edible batteries can help with the growing problem of throwing away used batteries. The battery’s two ends are made of vitamin B2 and another natural element that can be found in many fruits including apples. So the new battery can be more friendly for nature.
42.Which of the following about Robofood’s drone is true?
A.The materials of the drone are totally edible.
B.The materials of the drone aren’t strong enough.
C.The drone can be used in any dangerous situation.
D.The drone is made of rice cakes, oil and chocolate.
43.What can we learn from the last two paragraphs?
A.Robofood’s sensors can stay in the human body longer.
B.Robofood’s sensors can watch the stomach more carefully.
C.Robofood’s batteries are expected to take the place of some fruit.
D.Robofood’s batteries are the first batteries that can be totally eaten.
44.Which of the following can show the structure of the passage?
A.B. C. D.

For thousands of years, the Chinese people have had a deep respect (尊敬) for Loong, the Chinese dragon. In China, you’ll find pictures of dragons almost e 61 especially in palaces and temples. Some of them are more than 3, 500 years old.

六、阅读与回答问题(本题共5小题;每小题2分, 满分10分)
请认真阅读下面短文, 并根据短文内容回答问题。
In the eyes of many foreigners, the Chinese are the best hosts and the worst guests in the world. And Western hosts sometimes look rude in the eyes of Chinese guests. It is because the guest-host relationship(关系)in China is quite different from that in some western countries.
In China, guests are almost like gods. Whenever I enter a Chinese friend’s home, there is always fruit on the table for me, and someone is quick to bring me a cup of tea or water. In the west, generally the guest is not a god. Acting according to(根据)the host’s way of doing things is usual behaviour for a guest.
My wife’s mother, a very kind Chinese lady, doesn’t smoke. When I see some of her guests smoking in her house, as a non-smoker I feel unhappy. Usually I want to stop them directly, but I must realize that in China, to be a good host, she must not do that.
In most North American homes, if you are a guest, and the hosts are not smokers, you should not smoke in their houses. At the very least, you should ask “Is it OK if I smoke?” But don’t be surprised if they say, “No, you can’t smoke.” In my culture, if you smoke in their houses, you are a bad guest, but if they don’t allow you to smoke in their houses, they are not rude hosts.
In a word, no matter where you are, the best way to be a good guest is to adapt to(适应)the local customs. Just as the saying goes, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.”
71.To many foreigners, who are the best hosts and the worst guests in the world?
72.What is usual behaviour for a guest in the west?
73.How does the writer feel when he sees some guests smoking in his wife’s mother’s home?
74.If a guest wants to smoke in an American host’s home, what question should he ask?
75.What do you think is impolite for a guest to do? (请自拟一句话作答)

My Low-carbon Life
The environmental pollution is worse and worse today. We are facing many environmental problems now. For example, too much use of plastic bags has caused serious white pollution. The waste water flowing into the river not only pollutes the environment but also does harm to people’s health. As students, we should do our part to live a lower-carbon life.
First of all, we can walk or ride a bike instead of driving. It’s good for our health and it doesn’t cost anything. Second, we are expected to turn off the taps and lights when we don’t use them. Third, remember to go shopping with a reusable bag rather than plastic bags.
In short, simple things in our daily life can make a big difference and lead to a better world and a happier life. Let’s take actions from now on.
