上教版(2020)必修一 Unit 2 阅读理解重点精练题集 On many travelers’ lists of things to do before they die, you’ll find “See the northern lights” written down. Rightfully so these lights are one of nature’s most jaw-dropping views. In Sweden, the northern lights usually appear from late March or early April. Your best chance of catching a glimpse of them is on cold winter nights when the sky is clear, dark with little to no moonlight, and cloudless. You need to be away from city lights and go to the countryside. For those willing to brave the cold on winter nights, here are some of the best locations. Abisko National Park Abisko Natinal Park is a main location. The scientifically confirmed “blue hole”, a piece of sky over the Tornetrask lake that usually remains clear despite cloudy weather nearby, gives Abisko its own microclimate (局部地区气候), which is suitable for catching the lights. Jukkasjarvi The village of Jukkasjarvi only has about 550 people. But don’t let the small population size fool you: Jukkasjarvi owns the world’s first ice hotel and is one of the best places to view the northern lights. The ice hotel organizes guided tours for guests to the Esrange Space Center. There you can eat at a camp outside and see the Arctic winter sky for aurora borealis (北极光). Or why not try to get closer to the northern lights and watch them through an aeroplane window? The ice hotel arranges flights for the amazing northern lights experience. Gallivare You can drive a snowmobile to the mountain top in Gallivare for a private light show, or head a few kilometers to nearby villages to watch those lights shining across the dark winter sky. But remember if you do get the chance to see the northern lights in person, never whistle to them. Just as he was about to be offline, he saw a name he’d never seen there before, Susan. Her brief message was “Would someone help me?” Sean typed back, “What’s wrong?” A moment later he received this message, “I can’t breathe. Help me! I can’t get out of my chair.” Oh, man, Sean thought. Pretending to be paralyzed (瘫痪) was a bad joke. Then he wondered what if she really is sick? “Hey. Mom.” he called. “There’s a kid here who’s sick or something.” Sharon looked at the computer screen. “It’s not just some game, is it?” she asked. The message was not a joke. Susan was actually a 20-year-old student, working late at night at a college library near Helsinki, Finland - almost 7,000 miles away from Sean’s home in Texas. While searching the Internet, she began to feel terrible pain all through her body. The library was silent and empty. The nearest phone was outside in the hallway. She couldn’t move that far. Any movement caused the pain to get worse. Then she realized she might get help on the Internet. “I don’t think it’s a joke, Mom, “Sean said. And he typed, “Where are you?” After a long while, the letters appeared, “Finland.” Sean and Sharon couldn’t believe it. Not knowing what else to do, Sharon called the local police. Sharon explained the situation to the officer Amy Schmidt. Schmidt told Sharon to try to get the sick girl’s phone number. Texas police called the international telephone operator and asked to be connected to the proper agency (机构) in Finland. The call was put through to a nearby rescue station. The Texas police gave Susan’s address to the Finnish operator. When Sean heard that, he typed, “Help is on the way.” In a few minutes, Susan heard people running down the hallway outside the door. Suddenly, the door opened. Emergency workers and three policemen ran in. Susan turned once more to the computer, “They are here. Thanks. Bye-bye.” Four days later, the police in Texas received a message from officers in Finland: “Thanks to her Internet friend. Susan has received medical treatment she badly needed. She is doing well.” 10.What happened when Sean was about to get offline? A.His computer broke down. B.A piece of online news attracted him. C.He came across a friend in the chat room. D.He noticed an unfamiliar name. 11.What happened to Susan? A.She fell down on the ground. B.She was too sick to move C.She lost her phone. D.She was locked in the library. 12.How did Sean and her mother Sharon help Susan? A.They reported to the Texas police. B.They called the rescue station in Finland. C.They asked for help online D.They sent messages to Susan’s friend. 13.Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A.Making Friends Onlines B.Police Officer’s Act of Kindnes C.Help on the Way D.Help on the Internet Last July, I visited Cambridge, a historical university town in England. It is well known that Cambridge University is one of the best universities in the world, but few people know its unique university system. The trip made me know more about the school. It turned out so different from what I had expected! At Cambridge, there are 31 colleges. These colleges are places where students live, enjoy entertainment, study at libraries and use leisure equipment. Once you enter a college, it becomes your community. Each college is different in terms of places, equipment and atmosphere (氛围). This is why, when applying to Cambridge, applicants (申请人) take great care to choose the right college for themselves. Sometimes, it is just a matter of whether it “feels right” for you. I also had the chance to visit their Museum of Classical Archaeology (考古学). For someone who is crazy about classics (经典), Cambridge is the perfect place to come and learn from their museums. Classics have been interesting me since I was a kid, and I have developed a deep love for Greek mythology (神话) in comic books. In most museums that Cambridge has, it is easy to find exhibits (展品) that enable you to gain knowledge in any area of interest. There is a museum for almost everything you can think of, including earth sciences, art and — of course — classics. If you ever have the chance to visit Cambridge, I would suggest visiting their museums as part of your trip. Not only would you be able to immerse yourself in the studying atmosphere, but you could enjoy the wonderful exhibits each museum offers. 14.How did the writer learn more about Cambridge University according to the passage? A.By reading books. B.By visiting it. C.By watching TV. D.By surfing the Internet. 15.Why should applicants be careful about choosing the right college? A.Students have different interests. B.Not all colleges are open to them. C.The colleges are similar to each other. D.Each college is different in its own way. 16.What is the third paragraph mainly about? A.The writer’s deep interest in classics. B.The great advantages of visiting Cambridge’s museums. C.The large collection of exhibits in Cambridge’s museums. D.The writer’s visit to the Museum of Classical Archaeology. 17.Which of the following words can be used to replace the underlined word “immerse” in the last paragraph? A.Put. B.Teach. C.Value. D.Dress. Of all the ways to define (定义) a challenge, the simplest works best: a call for special effort. It applies to everyone. It’s not enough to say that skiing a black diamond is a challenge; or that snowshoeing a 10-kilometr e route is a challenge. For some, neither may be. For others, both are unimaginable. A call for special effort means only you know when you’re being challenged. If you’re red-faced and out of breath, it’s probably a challenge. If you have to focus and work hard to complete the task, consider yourself challenged. This season, we sourced 10 of the most exciting winter challenges around Canada. Sure, there are some that even the writer has no intention of trying, but they all excite the imagination. They’re all about inspiring outdoor experiences at ExploreTM. We encourage adaptation as well as adoption. When you read the feature (专栏) on page 28, you may give up the 6633 Arctic Ultra as well as the Ice Mile—but the Wapta Traverse, the famous Rocky Mountain ski tour, or the Pentathlon des Neiges, in Quebec City, may fit the bill nicely. Or maybe it’s a day-tour in the Rockies and sampling just one of the Pentathlon sports in a more relaxed setting. It’s up to you. We wrote this article because we want you to see the possibility of winter: to look beyond a simple, though satisfying, day on the ski hill or skate on a nearby lake; to see winter as every bit as colorful as summer. 18.What does the writer think is the best way to define a challenge? A.Skiing a black diamond. B.A call for special effort. C.Applying it to everyone. D.Snowshoeing a challenging route. 19.How does the writer feel about the 10 winter challenges around Canada in Paragraph 3? A.They are worth trying. B.They are the most challenging. C.They are suitable for the writer. D.They fail to fire the imagination. 20.Which of the following will the writer avoid recommending? A.The Ice Mile. B.The Wapta Traverse. C.The Pentathlon des Neiges. D.The Rocky Mountain ski tour. 21.What is the purpose of writing this article? A.To define a challenge. B.To introduce Canada’s sights. C.To praise adventurous tourists. D.To encourage exploring winter challenges. Recently, my husband and three kids were playing in the Mediterranean, swimming and floating in the picture-perfect sea. It was extremely beautiful in Majorca, Spain. The way the sun danced across the water and how the blue horizon was dotted with storybook sailboats were such beautiful scenes. I almost couldn’t believe my eyes. My husband and I always dreamed about taking our kids on a trip around the world. It was something we always wanted to do “one day”. It was one of the things we talked at length about, when we imagined our life with the children we hoped we would have. Fourteen years later, we had three boys who were growing up faster by the day. It was time to make good on those plans. We spent dozens of hours discussing, researching and planning. We had to learn how to “road school” our kids and arrange time off from work. We renewed our passports, and then packed our bags. We showed our kids the world. It was about experiencing the dozens of flights and trains and taxis together. We showed them how wonderful, how diverse, and how amazing the world is. We wanted them to learn all that we had learned ourselves, through our own travels as young adults. But there was something more than that: What we really wanted is to slow down time. We wanted the days to last a bit longer, and the weeks to take their time. The years with our children are going too fast. We wanted to put the brakes on (阻止) our busy lives for a year, and just be with our kids. We wanted a break from the daily morning routine of making lunches, eating breakfast and rushing out of the door in time for school. We needed a family time-out. It was a wonderful two-month trip in Europe, full of incredible moments. And when we look back at our lives, I know we’ll be glad we did it. I know we’ll be happy that this is a chapter of the story of our family. 22.What was the author’s attitude toward the trip when planning it? A.Worried. B.Calm. C.Stressed. D.Eager. 23.What does the underlined part “make good on” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A.Change. B.Realize. C.Improve. D.Cancel. 24.What was the author’s main purpose of taking this trip? A.To teach her children to value life. B.To allow her children to see the world. C.To enjoy a family breakaway from their life routine. D.To enable her children to learn something out of class. 25.How did the author feel about their two-month stay in Europe? A.Tired. B.Satisfied. C.Inspired. D.Disappointed. Travelling plays an important part in making us feel relaxed and happy. It also brings good changes in our life and keeps us alive and active. Travelling gives us practical experience of things we have studied in the books. So a person who does not travel at all does not find any meaning in the name of Ganga River. However, if he has travelled to this place, he can truly relate everything he has studied and will always remember each and every detail of that place. Nowadays, many people like travelling as they want to explore the world and watch everything they have read about. And this seems to be quite true as practical knowledge is more important and effective (有效的). People like to visit historical places present in different parts of the world and collect information on the same to write books and stories. Travelling has become easier due to (由于) advancement in technology and transportation (交通). Earlier people used to travel by road or sea and it took many days to travel from one place to another. However, now the situation has changed and people travel to far off places within hours and minutes — thanks to well-built roads and airplanes. People travel for different purposes, some travel for further education while others travel to relax and enjoy. Many people take a break from their busy schedule and go for a vacation, which makes them feel pleased and energetic (充满活力的). Many writers and painters travel to different places to experience some of the best things of nature and express them in the form of paintings or books. People also travel for business purposes so as to make money from their business. Students travel for educational purposes. Everyone has a unique reason to travel. Therefore, travelling is an important part of human life and it provides knowledge and offers all kinds of benefits (好处) to mankind. 26.What does the author want to say by mentioning the Ganga River? A.The Ganga river is a good place to visit. B.Travelling brings good changes in our life. C.Visitors fail to find the meaning of the Ganga river. D.People should travel to experience the things in the books. 27.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about? A.The traffic in earlier times. B.The time spent on travelling. C.Changes in means of transportation. D.The reasons why travelling has become easier. 28.What can we know from the last two paragraphs? A.Different people have different reasons to travel. B.Businessmen always travel for a vacation. C.Writers travel to sell their books. D.Painters love travelling the most. 29.What does the author think of travelling? A.Useful but expensive. B.Important but difficult. C.Meaningful and necessary. D.Pleasant and safe. Mammoth Cave National Park, in the state of Kentucky, is a unique and historical natural wonder. It has the world’s longest cave system. There may be another 600 miles of cave passageways that have yet to be explored. In addition, more than 200 caves that are disconnected from the larger system can be found in the park. The underground caves were created naturally by the process of limestone (石灰岩) erosion. Rain and rivers slowly dissolve (溶解) and shape soft limestone. The system is still being shaped today. Not only are they an amazing destination to visit, but the system also provides drinking water for about 40% of the US population. The caves’ first explorers were Native Americans, who mined (采矿) the upper levels of Mammoth Cave. Later, the sites were left in great shape and began to draw public interest. Mammoth Cave was made into a national park thanks to strong support. Back in the 1920s, the Southern Appalachian National Park Commission was set up in 1925. After years of work, as well as building roads and public facilities, the park was completed on July 1, 1941. The park now receives around 2 million visitors a year, with about a quarter taking a tour of the caves—everything from a cultural tour to the more adventurous tours on offer. The cave supports more than 130 wildlife species (物种). The park is also much more than just a cave; the forest around has a diverse (多种多样的) range of species. There are miles of trails open for horseback riding, with canoe trails and great fishing spots. There are also more than 1,300 flowering species in the forest, and animals like wood warblers, thrushes, and bald eagles can regularly be seen. 30.What can we learn about Mammoth Cave from the first two paragraphs? A.It was made by ancient people. B.It has the length of 600 miles. C.It is made up of 200 connected caves. D.It has a large underground system. 31.How do the caves form? A.Explorers mine the upper levels. B.The government searches for drinkable water. C.Water dissolves limestone. D.People build roads and public facilities. 32.What can we learn from the last paragraph? A.More than 1,300 flowers grow in the caves. B.The park offers visitors diverse experiences. C.Most visitors come to the park just for caves. D.Two million people have visited the park till now. 33.What is the best title for the text? A.Planning cave tours around the world B.Exploring the world’s longest cave system C.Learning about the explorers of Mammoth Cave D.Predicting the future of Mammoth Cave National Park Hummingbirds (蜂鸟) are a very important part of Mexico’s ecosystem, but because of the ever-spreading city landscape, they face all sorts of serious dangers. That’s where 73-year-old Catia Lattouf de Arida comes in. As a self-taught hummingbird care-taker, she devotes most of her free time and resources to nursing the tiny birds back to health. Her home in Mexico City has become known as a hummingbird hospital Catia’s story as a hummingbird nurse began in 2011, at a very dificult moment in her life. At that time, she focused on her battle with cancer and fell into a depression (抑郁) . She was walking on the strect one day when she noticed a hummingbird that had suffered a serious eye injury. The kindhearted woman took it home and named it Gucci. She managed to nurse Gucci back to health, but she said it was Gucci that saved her. Why? Word of her success spread among Catia’s friends, and before long some of them began bringing her injured hummingbirds. She didn’t repulse them at all. She began to study the bird and their habits in order to better take care of them, and after 11 years of experience, the 73-year-old woman is considered an expert on hummingbirds.
