This rare illness is the chief cause of acquired heart disease in babies and young children. Historically, it’s been difficult for doctors to spot it, until recently, when a young inventor developed an app that can find it out. Ellen’s invention does research on a photograph of the child and looks for clear signs of Kawasaki disease, like a swollen tongue. It’s a great invention that likely wouldn’t have come about if it all weren’t so personal. When Ellen, a San Diego native, was 5 years old, her parents rushed her kid sister to the hospital. Three-year-old Kate had a fever, reddened eyes and swelling in her hands and tongue. At first the puzzled doctors guessed that Kate had a flu. But when her condition didn’t improve, she returned to the Emergency Room, where she was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease and treated immediately. In time she shook off the illness without suffering damage to her heart, making her one of the lucky ones. 10 years later, Ellen, needing a project for a high school science fair, recalled her sister’s illness. “It was a puzzle I wanted to solve,” says Ellen, now a student at Stanford. So she set out to do just that. Using data, she invented an app that can identify the physical signs of Kawasaki disease from a photo. It works similarly to apps that can identify birds and plants. The app is expected to appear soon on the Kawasaki Disease Foundation’s website, kdfoundation. org. As for Kate, Ellen says the little girl with the mysterious disease is now an energetic high school junior with dreams of becoming an environmental engineer. 24 What can be learned about Kawasaki disease from paragraph 1? A. It occurs in everyone. B. It may lead to acquired heart disease. C. It is difficult to identify now. D. It can be treated successfully by Ellen. 25. Why did Kate return to the Emergency Room? A. To shake off her flu. B. To get good luck. C. To receive further examination. D. To escape damaging her heart. 26. What inspired Ellen to invent the app? A. Doctors’ request. B. A science fair. C. Kate’s illness. D. Stanford’s homework. 27. What does the text mainly talk about? A. An invention for Kawasaki disease. B. A joyful story of a sick girl. C. The treatment for Kawasaki disease. D. A united and happy family. B 25. C 26. C 27. 根据文章第一段“This rare illness is the chief cause of acquired heart disease in babies and young children.(这种罕见的疾病是婴儿和幼儿后天心脏病的主要原因。)” 根据文章第三段“But when her condition didn’t improve, she returned to the Emergency Room, where she was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease and treated immediately.(但当她的病情没有好转时,她回到了急诊室,在那里她被诊断出患有川崎病并立即接受治疗。)” 根据文章第四段“10 years later, Ellen, needing a project for a high school science fair, recalled her sister’s illness. “It was a puzzle I wanted to solve,” says Ellen, now a student at Stanford. So she set out to do just that.(10年后,Ellen需要一个高中科学展览的项目,她想起了妹妹的病。“这是一个我想解决的难题,”现在在斯坦福大学读书的Ellen说。所以她开始着手解决这个问题。)”可知,Ellen发明这款应用程序的灵感来自于她妹妹的病,故选C项。 【27题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“Historically, it’s been difficult for doctors to spot it, until recently, when a young inventor developed an app that can find it out.(历史上,医生很难发现它,直到最近,一位年轻的发明家开发了一款可以发现它的应用程序。)”以及第四段“Using data, she invented an app that can identify the physical signs of Kawasaki disease from a photo.(利用数据,她发明了一款可以从照片中识别川崎病体征的应用程序。)” C Scientists have figured out how to make large amounts of oil from duckweed (浮萍). Processing such plant oils into biodiesel (生物柴油) for transportation and heating could be a big part of a future looking for clean energy. Researchers could use duckweed plants to produce seven times more oil per acre than soybeans — currently the most commonly used biofuel-producing plant. Unlike fossil fuels, which form underground over hundreds of millions of years, biofuels can be released faster than they are used. Fuels made from new and used vegetable oil s and animal fat can have a lower carbon foot print than fossil fuels do. Therefore, biofuels will gradually become the mainstream fuels and thrive in the near future. Although Duckweed, common on every continent but Antarctica, is among the world’s most productive plants per acre, the researchers suggest it could be a renewable energy source for three key reasons. First, it grows readily in water, so it wouldn’t compete with food crops for prime agricultural land. Second, duckweed can grow well in agricultural pollution from farms like pig and chicken farms, potentially cleaning up some of the chemicals such farms release into the water. Third, engineered green plants typically spend a lot of energy on oil production and thus stop growing. But the researchers added to duckweed an oil-producing gene that would be inactive at first, and work only when the plant had finished growing. The process worked quite well. If it replicates (复制) in other species, this can solve the issue of how we can make more oil in more plants without negatively affecting growth. To make production up to industrial levels, scientists will need to design and produce large-scale vessels (导管) for growing engineered plants and getting oil—a challenge, the study’s lead author John Shanklin, a biochemist at the U. S. Department of Energy’s Brook haven National Laboratory says. 28. What benefit does Duckweed oil have as biofuels? A. It is the cleanest energy source. B. It tastes better than soybean oil. C. It is environmentally friendly. D. It has replaced fossil fuels. 29. What does the underlined word “thrive” in paragraph 2mean? A. Run out. B. Go bad C. Stay weak D. Develop well. 30. What is paragraph 3 mainly about? A. What changes Duckweed brought about. B. Why Duckweed can be renewable. C. Whether we should grow Duckweed. D. How we process Duckweed into clean biodiesel. 31. What does Shanklin think of producing biodiesel industrially? A. Challenging. B. Dangerous. C. Tough. D. Convenient. C 29. D 30. B 31. 根据文章第一段“Scientists have figured out how to make large amounts of oil from duckweed (浮萍). Processing such plant oils into biodiesel (生物柴油) for transportation and heating could be a big part of a future looking for clean energy.(科学家们已经找到了如何从浮萍中提炼出大量油脂的方法。将这些植物油加工成生物柴油,用于运输和供暖,这可能是未来寻求清洁能源的重要组成部分。)”可知,浮萍油作为生物燃料是环保的。故选C。 29题详解】 词句猜测题。根据上文“Unlike fossil fuels, which form underground over hundreds of millions of years, biofuels can be released faster than they are used. Fuels made from new and used vegetable oil s and animal fat can have a lower carbon foot print than fossil fuels do.(与需要数亿年才能在地下形成的化石燃料不同,生物燃料可以比使用它们的速度更快地释放出来。由新旧植物油和动物脂肪制成的燃料可以比化石燃料的碳足迹更低。)”可知,生物燃料可以比使用它们的速度更快地释放出来,而且生物燃料可以比化石燃料的碳足迹更低。因此,生物燃料将在未来逐渐成为主流燃料并繁荣发展,所以“thrive”在这里的意思是“繁荣发展”。故选D。 【30题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章第三段“Although Duckweed, common on every continent but Antarctica, is among the world’s most productive plants per acre, the researchers suggest it could be a renewable energy source for three key reasons. First…Second…Third… 根据最后一段的“To make production up to industrial levels, scientists will need to design and produce large-scale vessels for growing engineered plants and getting oil—a challenge, the study’s lead author John Shanklin, a biochemist at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brook haven National Laboratory says.(为了将生产提高到工业水平,科学家们需要设计和生产用于种植转基因植物和获取石油的大型容器——这是一项挑战,该研究的主要作者、美国能源部布鲁克海文国家实验室的生物化学家约翰·尚克林表示。)” A。 D Astronaut Frank Rubiales made headlines by spending 371 days in space, far beyond his scheduled 180 days, due to a technical failure. This unexpected longer stay became an unforgettable experience for Rubiales and it was turned into a golden opportunity for researchers to explore the effects of long-term space travel on the human body. Although space exploration is of importance for human beings’ development, it brings about unique bad effects on both physical and mental well-being. The absence of gravity in space can cause astronauts to lose muscle and bone strength, which may cause their disabilities. To solve this problem, they must exercise for 150 minutes every week. Additionally, space traveler’s eyes can be affected in the zero-gravity environment, facing the danger of being blind. What’s worse, beyond earth’s protective layer, astronaut s face greater exposure to strong solar radiation, increasing the risk of serious health issues, including cancer. Astronauts’ mental health is also at risk. On Earth, daylight patterns help us sleep, but astronauts in space see 16 sunrises and sunsets each day. The unusual pattern disturbs their natural sleep cycles and leads to anxiety. Besides, the limited social interactions and the constant observation by experts on Earth can result in stress and loneliness. Therefore, these factors stress the importance of advancing technology and strategies to ensure astronauts’ health and well-being during long-time missions, such as space travel that could last up to years. The experience and data gathered from missions like Rubiales’ not only help prepare for more distant space explorations but also have improved applications on Earth. Technologies that once supported space exploration are now increasing medical qualities in hospitals and helping recovery from health conditions, bridgeing the gap between space achievements and daily life. 32. What happened to Rubiales? A. He stayed longer in space for a technical mistake. B. He returned to the Earth on time. C. He researched the effects of long-term space travel. D. He was scheduled to spend 371 days in space. 33. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? A. Health problems caused by the absence of gravity. B. Bad effects on astronauts’ physical health in space. C. Astronauts’ bad experiences in space. D. Solutions to health issues including cancer. 34. What may mainly cause astronauts’ anxiety? A. Sunrises and sunsets. B. Observation by experts. C. Lack of sleep. D. Usual daylight patterns. 35. What is the author’s attitude toward space explorations? A. Disapproving. B. Unclear. C. Doubtful. D. Objective. A 33. B 34. C 35. 根据文章第一段“Astronaut Frank Rubiales made headlines by spending 371 days in space, far beyond his scheduled 180 days, due to a technical failure.(由于技术故障,宇航员弗兰克·鲁比亚莱斯在太空中度过了371天,远远超出了他计划的180天,成为头条新闻。)” 故选A。 根据文章第二段“The absence of gravity in space can cause astronauts to lose muscle and bone strength, which may cause their disabilities. To solve this problem, they must exercise for 150 minutes every week. Additionally, space traveler’s eyes can be affected in the zero-gravity environment, facing the danger of being blind. What’s worse, beyond earth’s protective layer, astronaut s face greater exposure to strong solar radiation, increasing the risk of serious health issues, including cancer.(太空中没有重力会导致宇航员失去肌肉和骨骼力量,这可能会导致他们的残疾。为了解决这个问题,他们必须每周锻炼150分钟。此外,太空旅行者的眼睛在零重力环境下会受到影响,面临失明的危险。更糟糕的是,在地球的保护层之外,宇航员面临着更大的太阳辐射,增加了患癌症等严重健康问题的风险。)”可知,第二段主要讲述了在太空中对宇航员身体健康的不良影响。故选B。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“The unusual pattern disturbs their natural sleep cycles and leads to anxiety.(这种不寻常的模式扰乱了他们的自然睡眠周期,导致焦虑。)” 根据文章第二段“The absence of gravity in space can cause astronauts to lose muscle and bone strength, which may cause their disabilities.(太空中没有重力会导致宇航员失去肌肉和骨骼力量,这可能会导致他们的残疾。)”、文章第三段“Astronauts’ mental health is also at risk.( 宇航员的心理健康也处于危险之中。)”和文章最后一段“The experience and data gathered from missions like Rubiales’ not only help prepare for more distant space explorations but also have improved applications on Earth.(从像Rubiales这样的任务中收集的经验和数据不仅有助于为更遥远的太空探索做准备,而且还改善了地球上的应用。)” Benefits of Water Fitness Exercising in water can help anyone become much fitter, and the advantages of water works—besides the fitness factor—may surprise you. ____36____ Water’s buoyancy (浮力) minimizes the effects of gravity, meaning it’s gentle on joints. At that time, I was in a senior high school. After my father’s funeral, the whole family was in a worse condition than ever. As the eldest son, I had no choice but to quit school and work in a factory. Life went on without any wonder. I dared not to ask for more, just hoping to bring up two younger brothers. However, that was not an easy thing, for I couldn’t afford their tuition even if I worked from day to night without stopping, and much worse, I had to take my sick mother into account. The present misery made me want to have another try, but it seemed impractical, for I couldn’t lose this job any more. A thread of hope sparkled in those gloomy days suddenly. It was a rainy dusk when I put myself in the rain and walked in the street. Suddenly the rain stopped! To my bewilderment(困惑) , I raised my head, and found that “the sky” was in fact a dark blue umbrella. Then I heard a deep voice. “Why not run without an umbrella?” A middle-aged man with one leg on crutch said to me, “If you run, you would get less drenched.” I shook my head, but after a second I thought: Right, why not run without an umbrella? His words shocked me deeply. Without my father, could I only be a slave to the fate, and my dream in childhood only an illusion? Life is like this. When you are in rainy days in your life, if you couldn’t find a way to prevent you from being drenched earlier, you would have been overwhelmed by it, but if you decide to get rid of it, you’ll discover that the rainy days last not so long as you imagined. While walking together in the rain, he told me his story. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Then, I decided to return to school and earn money to support my family while studying. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】While walking together in the rain, he told me his story. Once he had dreamed of being a policeman, but he had his left leg badly broken in an accident, which ruined his dream. Tough as the life was, he didn’t lose heart but turned to find another new job. Worse still, his present work was demanding and did not suit for his leg, but he said that every outing was a wonderful start to him. Enlightened by the man’s remarks, a decision like a green bud slowly emerged from my mind. Then, I decided to return to school and earn money to support my family while studying. I applied to the school for continuing my study. Being permitted, I went back to school to pursue my childhood dream, during which I found a part-time job to cover the basic living expenses. Efforts paid off, at last I was admitted into a university, and afterwards I found a job, because of which my family’s situation became better and better. Looking back, what I realized is that when we run out of the rainy season of our life, there will be bright sky ahead of us. 词汇激活 行为类 毁灭:ruin/destroy 启发:enlighten/inspire 追求:pursue/go in for 意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 要求高的:demanding/critical 美妙的:wonderful/fantastic 【点睛】[高分句型1] Tough as the life was, he didn’t lose heart but turned to find another new job.(运用了as引导让步状语从句和部分倒装) [高分句型2] Looking back, what I realized is that when we run out of the rainy season of our life, there will be bright sky ahead of us.(运用了现在分词短语作状语,what引导主语从句,that引导表语从句,when引导时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 保密★启用前 2024年毕节市高二年级期末联考 英语 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? 24. C Scientists have figured out how to make large amounts of oil from duckweed (浮萍). B. Dangerous. C. Tough. D. Convenient. D Astronaut Frank Rubiales made headlines by spending 371 days in space, far beyond his scheduled 180 days, due to a technical failure. B. Unclear. C. Doubtful. D. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
