What do you want to be when you grow up? Would you like to be a scientist or an artist? If you have brothers or sisters, the order (顺序) in which you were born may affect (影响) your choice of jobs. The Independent reported. The order in which children are born can affect how they behave (表现) and develop.
A group of British scientists studied 500 people from different job groups. They found that older children are more likely to become astronauts and scientists. NASA astronaut Neil Armstrong and British scientist Stephen Hawking are both the oldest children in their families. That’s probably because parents usually treat older children more strictly than younger children. This gives them a more disciplined (守纪律的) personality.
The scientists also found that middle children are 30% more likely to become CEOs than their brothers and sisters. The scientists said that this could be because middle children need to do more to get attention from their parents. This makes them stronger, more flexible (灵活变通的) and better at talks. Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook and Bill Gates, former CEO of Microsoft, are both middle children.
Younger children, on the other hand, are more likely to be the“softest”. They get attention by learning to pay attention to other people’s thoughts. This makes them sensitive (敏感的) to others’feelings. As a result, younger children are more likely to become musicians. German musician Johann Sebastian Bach and Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart were both the youngest children in their families.
The study results also suggested that an only child is more likely to become an artist. They get full attention from their parents and are freer to develop themselves. This makes them more creative and confident.

A. Hobby. B. Birth order. C. Personality. D. Parents’attention.

On the night of 30 August, 2023, many people took impressive (给人印象深刻的) photos of the largest and brightest super blue moon of the year. This full moon is very special, it is a Calendar Blue Moon (日历蓝月亮): But, do you really know what a “blue moon” is? Let’s find out together.
What is a blue moon?
There are two different types of blue moon.
Seasonal Blue Moon: Three full moons usually happen in one season. If there are four full moons in a season, then the third full moon (not the fourth one) in the season may be called the Blue Moon.
Calendar Blue Moon: The second full moon in the calendar month. There are usually 12 full moons each year, but sometimes there’s a 13th one, because there are about 29.5 days between full moons in fact, not one month. If the full moon appears on the first day of the month, there will be a second full moon at the end of the month. Then the second full moon is also called the Blue Moon (except February).
How often do blue moons appear?
Blue moons happen once every two to three years, far less common than full moons. There’s a popular saying about this in English: “Once in a blue moon”, it means something that happens not very often.
Can the moon turn blue?
The blue moon’s name has nothing to do with its color, but there is a small chance that the moon shows blue. For example, in 1883 an Indonesian volcano erupted (印度尼西亚火山喷发) and sent ash (灰烬) into the atmosphere. The tiny ash particles (颗粒) filtered (过滤) red light and made both the moon and sun appear blue.
When may the next blue moon be?

“A top superstar”, “a great success”...These are phrases people use when talking about LinaBell. She first showed up in Shanghai Disneyland and soon swept the Chinese internet with her cute daily-life videos. Who is she? What makes her a huge superstar among Chinese people?
Except the classic characters like Mickey, Cinderella, Elsa…, Disney has tried to stay fresh by creating new characters. A good example is “Duffy and Friends” series (系列) and LinaBell is one of them.
“Duffy and Friends” series has seven characters, including ShellieMay, StellaLou, and LinaBell. These characters have all come out in the last 20 years, mostly in Asia. Many young people like them. Duffy is a cute bear that came out in Tokyo Disneyland in 2004. Stella Lou, a purple rabbit, arrived in 2017. And in 2021 came a top star—LinaBell, a pink fox. Here is her cute background story. Duffy was playing around in a forest and he got lost. When he was worried, a girl called LinaBell came with her special big glass. She helped Duffy get out of the forest.
Different from other Disney characters, Duffy and his friends are more like pop idols (偶像). Each has their own personality (个性), even though they don’t have their own movies or TV shows. StellaLou dreams of becoming a dancer, while LinaBell loves adventures. And the characters’ fans really love them, calling themselves “mommy fans”, they call LinaBell “daughter” and StellaLou “baby”. It just goes to show how much Disney and its fans love each other.
These characters follow today’s pop culture. And it may be one of the reasons why Disney is still popular, even after 100 years.

This makes them stronger, more flexible (灵活变通) and better at talks.
34. What may affect people’s choice of jobs according to the passage?
A. Hobby. B. Birth order. C. Personality. D. Parents’attention.
35. According to the passage, who is more likely to become an astronaut?
A. The oldest child. B. The middle child.
C The youngest child. D. The only child.
36. As the family’s youngest child what will Robert most likely become according to the passage?
A. A scientist. B. A CEO. C. A musician. D. An artist.
37. What is an artist most likely to be according to the passage?
A. Strict with themselves. B. Competitive and flexible.
C. Sensitive to others feelings. D. Creative and confident.
38. What does the writer use most in this passage?
A. Numbers. B. Proverbs (谚语). C. Examples. D. Questions.

The next monthly blue moon is expected on May 31, 2026, but the next seasonal one is on August 19,2024. The dates may change with your time zone.
39. What’s special about the moon on 30 August,2023?
A. It’s the first full moon of the year.
B. It’s the biggest and brightest moon in history.
C. It’s the third full moon in the season.
D. It’s the second full moon of the month.
40. How long between full moons?
A. A season. B. 29.5 days.
C. A month. D. Two to three years.
41. Which of the following uses of the phrase “once in a blue moon” is correct?
A. Steven is always careless, he lost his keys once in a blue moon.
