Nicolas learnt to make strong kites modelled on Rokkaku, a kite that could stand high winds. As a newbie in his chosen field, he set out to train himself. Today he is one of the most well-known kite aerial photographers in the world. The technique is to tie a basket containing the photography equipment to the string of the kite and then fly it, thus launching the camera into air, From the ground, Nicolas controls the angles of the camera with a remote. An air-to-ground video link enables him to see the view from the kite’s point. Once satisfied with the frame, he clicks a picture. However, the job does have its pitfalls, too. Once, his kite disappeared in the Yamuna River, with his expensive camera following it. He is especially fond of India, having made a couple of trips and taken many spectacular photos. “India is a too vast and beautiful country to be captured through the cameras in one life,” he says. C The impacts of climate change on people’s health around the world, including deaths due to heatwaves and the consequences of food insecurity, have become a big concern since five years ago. All 16 indicators of the health impacts of a warming world are worsening, the Lancet Countdown report shows. “Climate change-caused shocks are claiming lives, damaging health and disturbing livelihoods in all parts of the world right now. That means no continent or community remains untouched,” says Ian Hamilton at University College London. The report found that between 2000 and 2018 the number of heat-related deaths each year in people aged over 65 jumped by almost 54 percent to 296,000 globally. Most were in Japan, China, India and Europe. More than half of 196 countries saw an increase in the risk of people exposed to wildfires between 2016-2019, compared with 2001 — 2004. Based on areas rather than people, Australia saw one of the biggest increases in wildfire risk between the same periods. Due to the greenhouse gas-intensive (气体密集的) nature of beef production, the researchers also looked at the health impacts of eating it. They found deaths from excess red meat consumption hit 990,000 in 2017, up 72 percent since 1990. The team behind the report urged governments to make sure the carbon-cutting plans they submit to the United Nations ahead of the COP26 climate top next year-known as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) — are not just obvious, but factor in health.“At the moment health is not featuring among the NDCs in the way that it needs to,” says Hamilton. 8. What’s the effect of climate change? A. It greatly affected people’s livelihood. B. It made great differences to plant growth. C. It hurt developing countries more seriously. D. Only a small number of countries escaped it. 9. Who is the major victim of high temperature? A. The elderly. B. The youth. C. People from Australia. D. People around the equator. 10. Why does the greenhouse gas-intensive nature of beef production bring harm to people? A. People suffer from extreme climates. B. People who eat too much red meat may die. C. People can’t get enough rest as usual. D. People have fewer animals than ever before. 11. What does the last paragraph mainly tell us? A. People’s efforts to the environment have paid off. B. Carbon-cutting plans haven’t been put into practice. C. NDCs hasn’t clearly indicated Carbon-cutting plans. D. Further efforts are needed about Carbon-cutting plans. D Many effective agricultural techniques have roots in pre-agricultural human history. For a thousand years, people have used controlled burning techniques to get rid of brush, allowing edible (可食用的) plants to grow better and preventing larger wildfires during dry seasons. Today, large wild wildfires in North America and Australia demonstrate the importance of maintaining controlled burning practices perfected by many Native American farmers and Aboriginal Australian peoples. Farming has also improved over the years. Early farmers set small plots of land by hand, clearing away trees with simple tools and digging sticks to break up and till the soil. Over time, improved farming tools of bone, stone and iron were developed. New methods of storage developed. People began storing large quantities of foods in jars and clay-lined wells for use in times of emergencies. They also began making clay pots and other tools for carrying and cooking food. Around 5500 BCE farmers in Mesopotamia developed simple irrigation (灌溉) systems. By channelling water from streams onto their fields, farmers were able to settle in areas once thought to be unsuited to agriculture. In Mesopotamia, Egypt, and China, people organised themselves and worked together to build and maintain better irrigation systems. Early farmers also developed improved varieties of plants. For example, around 6000 BCE, a new variety of wheat arose in South Asia and South Asia and Egypt. It was stronger than previous grains and it could be made into bread. In China, farmers also adapted tools and methods from nearby empires. A variety of rice from Vietnam ripened quickly and allowed farmers to harvest several crops during a single growing season. This rice quickly became popular throughout China. Many European farmers around 1000 to 1450 CE used an open-field system of planting. One field would be planted in spring, another in autumn, and one would be left unplanted. This system preserved nutrients in the soil, increasing crop production. 12. Why are the controlled burning techniques mentioned in Paragraph 1? A. To tell us fires are vital for people from early times. B. To show the ancient ways of farming are still useful today. C To indicate people can’t control fires as effectively as before. D To show fires on farming are only controlled by few people. 13. What did people begin to do with developed farming methods? A. Preserve more grains. B. Trade grains for farming tools. C. Be engaged in other businesses. D. Clear away fewer land. 14. What can we learn from the second to last paragraph? A. People made full use of nature. B. The national irrigation systems were developed quickly. C. The International agricultural technology exchange was important. D. The changeable weather conditions had a big impact on agriculture. 15. What can be the best title for the text? A. The Long History of Modern Agriculture B. The Development of the Early Irrigation Systems C. The Procedure of the Improved Agriculture D. The Improvement of Early Agricultural Techniques How to Write a Free Verse Poem Let’s say you are working on an assignment about writing a free verse poem and you’re all set to start. Every morning, there was a personal trainer who worked out. He did his routine with such a quiet determination that he made it all look very easy When I wanted to quit, I watched him push himself to his own limits, and I found myself motivated to work hard. Several weeks ago, I was watching him do chin-ups (引体向上) easily. I asked him if I could try it. I had never tried before. He eagerly stepped aside and encouraged me to step up to the bar. I pulled myself up without thinking... Once... then twice. I had no strength left. I told him that was all I had, so he stepped up behind me and pushed me up for a third and a fourth pull. It felt so good and I smiled from ear to ear. The next day when I was done with my workout, I asked him to spot me again. Again, I did two. Again, on Day three and so on. I thought it was pitiful that I could only do two, but he said he was impressed with my chin-ups, explaining that most people couldn’t do them at all. Then he told me that if I practised every day, I would be doing five or six in no time. I just jumped in and gave it a try. A few months had passed since that memorable day in the club. I continued to work on my chin-ups, slowly but steadily. With each passing week, I could feel my strength increasing and my determination growing. One day, as I approached the chin-up bar, my trainer noticed the determination in my eyes. He smiled and said, “You know, you made a big progress in a such short time. I think it’s time to set a new goal for yourself.” I asked, “What do you have in mind?” He replied, “How about aiming for ten consecutive chin-ups? I believe that you can achieve it with your insistence. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I was both excited and nervous about this new challenge. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally, one morning, it happened. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 绝密★启用前 2023—2024学年度(下)白山市高二教学质量监测 英语 本卷满分150分,考试时间120分钟。 1. A film magazine. C. A history book. D. A science report. 【答案】1. C 2. D 3. A 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇应用文。文章主要介绍了三个游客必看的英国艺术画廊。 【1题详解】 细节理解题。根据Royal Academy of Arts (RA), London部分中“It is world-famous for hosting some exhibitions that get everyone talking. Besides, what sets the RA apart is its engagement with the public through participatory experiences, allowing visitors to not only view art but become part of it in innovative ways.(它以举办一些让每个人都在谈论的展览而闻名于世。此外,RA的独特之处在于它通过参与式体验与公众互动,让参观者不仅可以观看艺术,还可以以创新的方式成为艺术的一部分)”可知,皇家艺术学院的特别之处在于它提供的是一种互动体验。故选C。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据Yorkshire Sculpture Park, West Yorkshire部分中“Tearing up the rulebook when it comes to how we traditionally view art, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park tries to break down barriers by showing works from British and international artists in the open air.(当谈到我们传统上如何看待艺术时,约克郡雕塑公园尝试打破规则,通过在露天展示英国和国际艺术家的作品,努力打破障碍)”和Whitworth, Manchester部分中“Making full use of its picturesque park setting, the gallery has a beautiful art garden and a sculpture terrace (露台), all waiting to be explored.(画廊充分利用其风景如画的公园环境,拥有一个美丽的艺术花园和一个雕塑露台, 所有这些都有待探索)”可知,约克郡雕塑公园和惠特沃斯画廊的共同之处在于它们都提供户外环境。故选D。 【3题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,并根据第一段“With such a strong artistic heritage, it’s no surprise that England knocks it out of the park when it comes to world-class art galleries. These are the galleries you need to add to your must-visit list.(拥有如此强大的艺术遗产,英国在世界一流的艺术画廊中脱颖而出也就不足为奇了。这些是你需要添加到你的必游列表的画廊)”可知,这段文本很可能摘自一本旅行指南。故选A。 B Nicolas Chorier is not a usual photographer, but a kite aerial (航空的) photographer. The report found that between 2000 and 2018, the number of heat-related deaths each year in people aged over 65 jumped by almost 54 percent to 296,000 globally. 【答案】8. A 9. A 10. B 11. D 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了气候变化对全世界人民健康的影响。全球变暖加剧健康危机,《柳叶刀》报告警示热浪、野火和不健康饮食风险上升,呼吁COP26减排计划须重视健康影响。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中的“The impacts of climate change on people’s health around the world, including deaths due to heatwaves and the consequences of food insecurity, have become a big concern since five years ago. (自五年前以来,气候变化对世界各地人民健康的影响,包括热浪造成的死亡和粮食不安全的后果,已成为人们关注的一大问题。)”可知气候变化严重影响了全世界人们的健康,生存和粮食安全,也就是说,气候变化严重影响了全世界人们的生计。故选A项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“The report found that between 2000 and 2018, the number of heat-related deaths each year in people aged over 65 jumped by almost 54 percent to 296,000 globally. (该报告发现,在2000年至2018年期间,全球65岁以上人群每年与热有关的死亡人数激增近54%,达到296000人。)”可知老年人是高温的主要受害者。故选A项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段中的“They found deaths from excess red meat consumption hit 990,000 in 2017, up 72 percent since 1990. (他们发现,2017年过量食用红肉导致的死亡人数达到99万人,自1990年以来增长了72%。)”可知,因为过量食用红肉而死亡的人数增加了,所以过量食用红肉可能会导致人死亡。故选B项。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。由文章最后一段“The team behind the report urged governments to make sure the carbon-cutting plans they submit to the United Nations ahead of the COP26 climate top next year-known as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) —are not just obvious, but factor in health.“At the moment health is not featuring among the NDCs in the way that it needs to,” says Hamilton. Early farmers set small plots of land by hand clearing away trees with simple tools and digging sticks to break up and till the soil. Over time, improved farming tools of bone, stone and iron were developed. New methods of storage developed. People began storing large quantities of foods in jars and clay-lined wells for use in times of emergencies. They also began making clay pots and other tools for carrying and cooking food. Around 5500 BCE, farmers in Mesopotamia developed simple irrigation (灌溉) systems. C. To indicate people can’t control fires as effectively as before. D. To show fires on farming are only controlled by few people. C The International agricultural technology exchange was important. D. The changeable weather conditions had a big impact on agriculture. 15. What can be the best title for the text? A. The Long History of Modern Agriculture B. The Development of the Early Irrigation Systems C. The Procedure of the Improved Agriculture D. The Improvement of Early Agricultural Techniques 【答案】12 B 13. A 14. C 15. D 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了早期农业技术的改进,包括控制燃烧技术、耕作工具的发展、储存方法的改进、灌溉系统的建设以及植物品种的改良等。这些改进使得农业变得更加高效和可靠,对人类的生存和发展产生了深远的影响。 【12题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第一段“Many effective agricultural techniques have roots in pre-agricultural human history. For a thousand years, people have used controlled burning techniques to get rid of brush, allowing edible (可食用的) plants to grow better and preventing larger wildfires during dry seasons. Today, large wild wildfires in North America and Australia demonstrate the importance of maintaining controlled burning practices perfected by many Native American farmers and Aboriginal Australian peoples.(许多有效的农业技术都源于农业前的人类历史。一千年来,人们一直使用控制性燃烧技术来清除灌木丛,使可食用植物更好地生长,并在旱季防止更大的野火。如今,北美和澳大利亚发生的大规模野火表明了由许多北美原住民农民和澳大利亚原住民农民所完善的控制性燃烧做法的重要性。)”可推知,第1段提到了控制燃烧技术是为了展示古代的耕作方式在今天仍然有用。故选B。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第二段“Over time, improved farming tools of bone, stone and iron were developed. New methods of storage developed. People began storing large quantities of foods in jars and clay-lined wells for use in times of emergencies.(随着时间的推移,改良的骨、石和铁农具被开发出来。新的储存方法出现了。人们开始把大量的食物储存在罐子和粘土衬里的井里,以备不时之需。)”可知,随着农耕方法的发展,人们开始储存更多的粮食。故选A。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章倒数第二段“In China, farmers also adapted tools and methods from nearby empires. A variety of rice from Vietnam ripened quickly and allowed farmers to harvest several crops during a single growing season. 因此,最佳标题应该是D项“The Improvement of Early Agricultural Techniques(早期农业技术的改进)”。故选D。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Write a Free Verse Poem Let’s say you are working on an assignment about writing a free verse poem and you’re all set to start. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】I was both excited and nervous about this new challenge. Ten chin-ups seemed like a significant leap from where I had started, but the belief my trainer had in me fueled my determination, I accepted the challenge and got to work. Every morning, I pushed myself harder than before. The numbers slowly climbed: three, four, five and then seven chin-ups. It was challenging, but I remembered the lesson that I had learned. The most difficult tasks can be achieved through consistent effort and belief in oneself. Finally, one morning, it happened. I pulled myself up to the bar and completed ten consecutive chin-ups. I couldn’t contain my excitement and joy. I felt a profound sense of accomplishment. I achieved my goal through persistence. I had made it a reality. As I continue my fitness journey, I carry this lesson with me: No matter how daunting the obstacle may seem, the belief and persistence can help me overcome it. It’s not just about physical strength but also about mental fortitude and the power of setting and achieving goals. 词汇激活 行为类 接受:accept/embrace 实现:achieve/accomplish 帮助:help/assist 克服:overcome/get over 情绪类 快乐:joy/delight 决心:determination/resolution 【点睛】[高分句型1] Ten chin-ups seemed like a significant leap from where I had started, but the belief my trainer had in me fueled my determination, I accepted the challenge and got to work.(运用了where引导宾语从句,省略了that的定语从句) [高分句型2] No matter how daunting the obstacle may seem, the belief and persistence can help me overcome it.(运用了no matter how引导让步状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
