From the heartland to urban parks, there was a time when baseball was the only game in the summer holidays. But with competition from other sports like soccer, baseball is not as prevalent as it used to be. However, the baseball field is still a place for young boys to prove themselves.
Tim was one of those boys. His build was slight and unfinished. Some boys had the makings of athletic ability through every growth period. Tim seemed to be growing in odd ways: long arms and legs, thin shoulders, and no meat on his bones. But he loved baseball. Although strikeouts (三振出局) piled up in the recording sheets, Tim continued. He knew his body didn’t respond to dreams and wishes, but his desire was always there.
Tim practiced his swing every day, and every strikeout brought two things to the little boy: determination and some tears that Tim quickly wiped away before returning to the baseball field. His teammates encouraged him. His coach worked with him. Even the opposing teams held their breath, wishing for his hitting, just one hit for the boy who seemed to deserve it more than any other 10-year-old kid in the world.
What teammates and parents and even the coach never saw was a gray car that pulled up each game in the parking lot. Inside was Tim’s father, too weak from advancing cancer to get out of the car. It was a tough assignment for a father to watch his kid strike out, but for Tim’s father, he believed success was made out of sweat, tears, and effort instead of results. That was also what he expected Tim to understand and do.
At the end of the season, Tim stood on the field and was as determined as ever. He did his best, but ended up missing the chance to advance. When the game was over, Tim ran straight into the gray car and into the arms of his father, who witnessed his son’s every effort and was proud of him. Sometimes success really means more than the result.
41. Which can replace the underlined word “prevalent” in Paragraph 1?
A. Challenging. B. Complicated.
C. Popular. D. Competitive.
42. What does the author intend to do by describing Tim’s build?
A. To compare Tim’s athletic ability with others.
B. To emphasize Tim was too young to play the game.

根据画线词的上文“From the heartland to urban parks, there was a time when baseball was the only game in the summer holidays. But with competition from other sports like soccer(从中心地带到城市公园,曾经有一段时间棒球是暑假里唯一的运动。但面对其他运动的竞争,比如足球)”和下文“as it used to be(就像以前一样)”可知,棒球曾经非常受欢迎,随着其他运动的竞争,会不再那么受欢迎,画线词的意思应该是“受欢迎的,流行的”,与Popular意思一致。故选C项。
【42题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“His build was slight and unfinished. Some boys had the makings of athletic ability through every growth period. Tim seemed to be growing in odd ways: long arms and legs, thin shoulders, and no meat on his bones.(他身材瘦小,尚未长好。有些男孩在每个成长阶段都具有运动能力的体格。Tim似乎在以奇怪的方式成长:长长的胳膊和腿,瘦削的肩膀,骨头上没有肉)”可知,Tim身材瘦小,四肢纤细,不像其他男孩那样具有运动能力的体格。因此,作者通过这段描述是想说明Tim在这项运动中没有什么身体上的优势。故选D项。
【43题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“Tim practiced his swing every day, and every strikeout brought two things to the little boy: determination and some tears that Tim quickly wiped away before returning to the baseball field. His teammates encouraged him. His coach worked with him. Even the opposing teams held their breath, wishing for his hitting, just one hit for the boy who seemed to deserve it more than any other 10-year-old kid in the world.(Tim每天都练习挥杆,每次三振都给这个小男孩带来两样东西:决心和眼泪,Tim在回到棒球场前迅速擦干眼泪。他的队友鼓励他。他的教练和他一起训练。就连对方球队都屏住呼吸,希望他能命中,只要一个命中,这个男孩似乎比世界上任何一个10岁的孩子都更值得命中)”可知,Tim的队友、教练都支持他,甚至对方球队都希望他能命中,觉得他值得一个命中。由此推知,Tim不懈的努力赢得了别人的尊重。故选B项。
【44题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中“It was a tough assignment for a father to watch his kid strike out, but for Tim’s father, he believed success was made out of sweat, tears, and effort instead of results. That was also what he expected Tim to understand and do.(看着自己的孩子三振出局对一个父亲来说是一项艰巨的任务,但对Tim的父亲来说,他相信成功是由汗水、眼泪和努力组成的,而不是结果。这也是他希望Tim能理解和做到的)”和最后一段中“He did his best, but ended up missing the chance to advance. When the game was over, Tim ran straight into the gray car and into the arms of his father, who witnessed his son’s every effort and was proud of him.(他尽了最大的努力,但最终还是失去了晋级的机会。比赛结束后,Tim径直跑进那辆灰色的汽车,投入父亲的怀抱,父亲见证了儿子的每一次努力,并为他感到骄傲)”可知,Tim的父亲相信成功在于过程中付出的汗水、眼泪和努力,希望儿子可以明白这个道理,虽然Tim最后还是失败了,但他为儿子感到骄傲。由此可知,他是一个思想开明的父亲。故选B项。
【45题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中“It was a tough assignment for a father to watch his kid strike out, but for Tim’s father, he believed success was made out of sweat, tears, and effort instead of results.(看着自己的孩子三振出局对一个父亲来说是一项艰巨的任务,但对Tim的父亲来说,他相信成功是由汗水、眼泪和努力组成的,而不是结果)”和最后一段中“Sometimes success really means more than the result.(有时候,成功不仅仅意味着结果)”可推知,作者想通过Tim不懈努力训练,在过程中拼尽全力的故事告诉我们:成功是一段旅程,而不是终点。故选D项。
C
It’s long known to us that living close to major roads is harmful to people due to the exposure to air pollution. However, road traffic noise is also a widespread problem in cities whose impact on children’s health remains poorly understood. A new study conducted at 38 schools in Barcelona suggests that traffic noise at schools has a harmful effect on the development of working memory and attention in primary school students.
The study included 2,680 children between 7 and 10 years of age. To assess the possible impact of traffic noise on their cognitive (认知的) development, the researchers focused on two abilities that develop rapidly during preadolescence (青春期前) and are essential for learning and school attainment: attention and working memory.
The fieldwork for the study was carried out over a 12-month period in 2012 and 2013,during which the participants completed the cognitive tests four times. The aim of these tests was not only to assess their working memory and attention but also to study their evolution over time. Over the same period, noise measurements were taken in front of the 38participating schools, as well as in the playground s and inside classrooms.
In the analysis of outdoor noise levels of schools, higher average noise levels and greater fluctuation (波动) in noise levels were both associated with poorer student performance on all tests. Inside the classroom, greater fluctuation in noise levels was also associated with slower progress over the course of the year on all cognitive tests. However, children exposed to higher average classroom noise levels over the course of the year performed worse than students in quieter classrooms only on the attention test, but not on the working memory test.
The researchers used the 2012 road traffic noise map of the city of Barcelona to estimate the average noise level at each participant’s home. In this case, however, no association was observed between residential noise and cognitive development.
“This could be because noise exposure at schools is more harmful as it affects concentration and learning processes,” commented Maria Forester. “On the other hand, although noise measurements were taken at the schools, noise levels at the children’s homes were estimated using a noise map that may be less accurate and, in any case, only reflected outdoor noise. This, too, may have influenced the results.”
46. What problem does Paragraph 1 highlight?
A. Impacts of traffic noise on children.
B. Negative effects of living in big cities.
C. The harm of air pollution to children’s health.
D. The obstacle to improving working memory and attention.
47. What can we learn about the study?
A. It lasted more than two years.
B. It targeted schoolers of a certain age range.
C. It involved participants from different nations.
D. It was mainly carried out inside classrooms.
48. What played a role only in students’ poorer attention performance according to the text?
A Higher average classroom noise levels.
B. Students’ worse family environment.
C. Students’ weaker ability to adapt to new environments.
D. Greater fluctuation in classroom noise levels.
49. How was the average residential noise level evaluated in the study?
A. Through the researchers investigation.
B. Through the participants’ calculation.
C. Through field tests by professionals.
D. Through a road traffic noise map.
50. What is Maria Forester trying to explain in the last paragraph?
A The major research directions of future studies.
B. The reasons for taking noise measurements at schools.
C. The factors influencing the findings of research on residential noise.
D. The effects of residential noise levels on children’s concentration.
46. A 47. B 48. A 49. D 50. C

根据第一段“It’s long known to us that living close to major roads is harmful to people due to the exposure to air pollution. However, road traffic noise is also a widespread problem in cities whose impact on children’s health remains poorly understood. A new study conducted at 38schools in Barcelona suggests that traffic noise at schools has a harmful effect on the development of working memory and attention in primary school students. (我们早就知道,由于暴露在空气污染中,住在主要道路附近对人们有害。然而,道路交通噪音也是城市中一个普遍存在的问题,其对儿童健康的影响仍然知之甚少。在巴塞罗那38所学校进行的一项新研究表明,学校的交通噪音对小学生的工作记忆和注意力的发展有有害影响。)”可知,第一段所强调的问题是道路交通噪音对儿童的影响。故选A。
根据第二段中的“The study included 2,680 children between 7 and 10 years of age. (该研究包括2680名7至10岁的儿童。)”可知,这项研究针对某一年龄范围的在校生。故选B。
【48题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Inside the classroom, greater fluctuation in noise levels was also associated with slower progress over the course of the year on all cognitive tests. However, children exposed to higher average classroom noise levels over the course of the year performed worse than students in quieter classrooms only on the attention test, but not on the working memory test. (在教室里,噪音水平的较大波动也与一年中所有认知测试的缓慢进展有关。然而,在一年的时间里,暴露在较高平均教室噪音水平下的孩子只在注意力测试中表现得比安静教室里的学生差,而在工作记忆测试中却没有。)”可知,较高的平均教室噪音水平仅在注意力表现较差上起了作用。故选A。
根据倒数第二段中的“The researchers used the 2012 road traffic noise map of the city of Barcelona to estimate the average noise level at each participant’s home. (研究人员使用2012年巴塞罗那市的道路交通噪音地图来估计每个参与者家中的平均噪音水平。)”可知,研究中住宅平均噪音水平是通过道路交通噪音图来评估的。故选D。
【50题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中“In this case, however, no association was observed between residential noise and cognitive development.(然而,在这种情况下,没有观察到住宅噪音和认知发展之间的联系。)”以及最后一段““This could be because noise exposure at schools is more harmful as it affects concentration and learning processes,” commented Maria Forester. “On the other hand, although noise measurements were taken at the schools, noise levels at the children’s homes were estimated using a noise map that may be less accurate and, in any case, only reflected outdoor noise. This, too, may have influenced the results.”
D
One of the most beneficial skills you can learn in life is how to consistently put yourself in a good position. But not everyone knows how we can create that foundation. Actually, the position you find yourself in today is the accumulation of the small choices that you’ve been making for years.
If that’s the case, why doesn’t everyone make choices that will put them in a good position in the future? The ordinary choices that guarantee a strong future go unnoticed. Eating a chocolate bar right now won’t make you unhealthy, just as not eating it won’t make you healthy. Saving money today won’t make you rich, just as not saving it won’t make you poor. Reading a chapter of a great book today won’t solve your problems just as not reading it won’t make them worse.
Not doing the obvious things that position you for future success— rarely hurts you right away. The small choices we make on a daily basis either work for us or go against us. Time strengthens what you feed it. On the first day, the difference between the choices that help us and the choices that hurt us isn’t noticeable. But as days turn into weeks, weeks into years, and years into decades, the small choices do create massively different results.
Whenever this idea is brought up, people are quick to object, “But ... I do these things and I don’t get the results I want.” And it’s true; most of us make the right choices most of the time. But “most of the time” isn’t the same as “all of the time”. In the absence of immediate rewards, we can keep up the intensity for a while but most of us fail to last it long. It’s like we’re Sisyphus rolling a large rock up the hill, only to throw our hands halfway in the air due to tiredness and go home. When we showed up the next day, we saw the rock at the bottom of the hill and repeated the work. Not only did this spoil the progress but it made getting started even harder.
When you look below the surface, giant leaps aren’t really giant leaps at all. They’re a series of ordinary choices that finally become obvious. If you look for the magic moment, you’ll miss how ordinary choices become extraordinary.
51. Why do ordinary choices tend to be overlooked according to Paragraph 2?
A. They may harm people’s health.
B. They only produce insignificant success.
C. They fail to give immediate consequences.
D. They are unable to guarantee a strong future.
52. What does the author mainly stress in Paragraph 3?
A. The power of time.
B. The difficulty in achieving success.
C. The necessity of setting clear goals.
D. The importance of thoughtful planning.
53. What may lead to some people’s failure according to Sisyphus’s story?
A. A lack of perseverance. B. Insufficient preparations.
C. Simply blind confidence. D. A shortage of cooperation.
54. What lesson does the text intend to show?
A. No pains, no gains. B. Time heals everything.
C. It’s never too late to act. D. Rome was not built in a day.
55. How is the text developed?
A. In time order. B. In spatial(空间) order.
C. By analyzing data. D. By giving examples.
51. C 52. A 53. A 54. D 55. D

由文章第三段“Not doing the obvious things that position you for future success— rarely hurts you right away. The small choices we make on a daily basis either work for us or go against us. 第一节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读表达
I volunteered at LM Village Camp with Refugee Support for five months and I just came back recently.
I don’t know how to summarize the past several months. The refugees(难民)I got to know are unbelievably generous, warm and kind despite their horrific circumstances. I was astounded that they had the emotional capacity to give love, and gestures of kindness to the volunteers. On my last day at LM Village Camp, one family called me over to their home to thank me and say goodbye. They insisted on giving me their first grown cucumber from the plants they were growing from the “Grow Your Own” project we helped them start.
“Choices” and “opportunities” have been cruelly taken away from these people. If there is something I have learned from this, it’s to try to remind myself not to take the choices and opportunities I have for my present and future for granted. These refugees are currently powerless to make any real choices about their future, or even about their daily painful life. However, what I did witness at LM Village Camp was the residents’ ability to choose love and generosity of heart. I am proud to have supported these people a little in their time of need. They truly gave me so much more than I could give them; I learned so much about true selfless kindness.
Having volunteered for five months with Refugee Support, I have witnessed first-hand how donations can provide some normality for refugees’ life, providing aid with dignity and respect, and offering some small daily choices. You don’t have to volunteer there to help them. You can help even at home. Just donate something to them. It doesn’t have to be something expensive. Just donate anything that you think can help a refugee.
56. How did the author find the refugees?(no more than 5 words)

由文章第二段“The refugees(难民)I got to know are unbelievably generous, warm and kind despite their horrific circumstances. I was astounded that they had the emotional capacity to give love, and gestures of kindness to the volunteers. (我认识的难民,尽管他们的处境很可怕,但他们的慷慨、热情和善良令人难以置信。我 发现,他们有情感能力给予志愿者爱和善意的手势。)”可知,作者作为志愿者去给难民爱和帮助,反而得到了难民的爱和善意,这样这样作者很“震惊”,所以推测astounded表“震惊”。故填Astonished或者Shocked.
【58题详解】

【59题详解】
细节理解题。由文章最后一段“You can help even at home. Just donate something to them. It doesn’t have to be something expensive. Just donate anything that you think can help a refugee.(你甚至可以在家里帮忙。给他们捐点东西吧。它不一定是昂贵的东西。只要捐赠任何你认为可以帮助难民的东西。)”可知,作者呼吁读者捐赠任何读者认为可以帮助难民的东西。故填To donate something that could help the refugees.
I have both sympathy and respect for the refugees, because they are kind and generous despite their unpleasant living conditions.

Last week witnessed a green book recycling event aimed at addressing the issue of graduating students carelessly discarding their used textbooks.
The school’s Environmental Club collected used books from students who no longer needed them. These books were then sorted and either donated to local libraries or sold to second-hand bookstores, ensuring they remained in circulation and did not end up in landfills. The response from the student body was overwhelmingly positive, with many students eager to participate in the event.
In conclusion, the event was a resounding success, demonstrating that small actions can make a big difference in protecting our environment. We hope to continue this initiative in the future and inspire more students to embrace sustainable practices in their daily lives.

B. To emphasize Tim was too young to play the game.

D. To show Tim has few physical advantages in the sport.
43. What does the way Tim’s team and opponents treated him suggest?
A. Tim held the whole team back.
B. Tim’s efforts won others’ respect.
C. Tim’s slow progress brought hope to his opponents.
D. Tim touched his coach with his excellent performance.
44. What can be concluded about Tim’s father?
A. He felt disappointed at Tim’s strikeouts.
B. He was an open-minded father.
C. His expectations of Tim were beyond Tim’s ability.
D. His distant watching was to avoid a mental burden on Tim.
45. What life lesson does the author mainly convey to us?
A. Easier said than done.
B. Where there is a will, there is a way.
C. One false step makes a great difference.

It’s long known to us that living close to major roads is harmful to people due to the exposure to air pollution. However road traffic noise is also a widespread problem in cities whose impact on children’s health remains poorly understood.
A. Higher average classroom noise levels.
A. The major research directions of future studies.
B. The reasons for taking noise measurements at schools.
C. The factors influencing the findings of research on residential noise.
D. The effects of residential noise levels on children’s concentration.
C By analyzing data. D. By giving examples.
