Her hard work paid off as she achieved top scores in her Mandarin proficiency test and was qualified as a professional host.
In 2010, Dong joined in a national recitation contest, leading to her admission to the Communication University of China. By 2020, she had become a radio program host and returned to the university for a master’s degree in radio and television broadcasting.
Additionally, she teaches part-time, sharing her knowledge with others.

C
In October 2022 a bird with the code name B6 set a new world record. Over the course of 11 days, B6, a young Bar-tailed Godwit, flew from its hatching ground in Alaska to its wintering ground in Tasmania, covering 8, 425 miles without taking a single break. During its journey, B6 did not land, did not eat, did not drink and did not stop flapping, sustaining an average ground speed of 30 miles per hour 24 hours a day as it winged its way to the other end of the world.
B6’s long exciting journey is also a success of the remarkable mechanical features of some of the most easily recognized yet mysterious structures in the biological world: feathers. Feathers kept B6 warm overnight while it flew above the Pacific Ocean. Feathers formed the flight surfaces of the wings that kept B6 in the air for long.
One might expect that, considering all the time humans have spent admiring, using and studying feathers, we would know all their tricks by now. Yet insights into these amazing structures continue to emerge. Over the past decade scientists and researchers have been taking a fresh look at feathers. Collectively they have made surprising new discoveries about almost every aspect of their biology.
Starting in the 1990s, a series of surprising fossil finds showed that feathers were widespread among several families of meat-eating dinosaurs known as theropods and that birds had inherited these structures from their theropod ancestors. The discovery of feathered nonbird dinosaurs help researchers understand the origin and evolution (进化) of feathers.
Feathers are a fantastic model system for understanding how complex structures evolve. The field of applied science has taken note of feathers’ many brilliant features, which have already led to successful technological innovations. For instance, the surface texture (质感) and boundary-layer-control principles of penguin feathers have made their way into robotics.
No doubt feathers will give rise to more clever inventions in the future. We have only to let our creativity take flight.
7. Why did B6 fly to Tasmania?
A. To cover 8, 425 miles. B. To have a break.
C. To survive the winter. D. To practice flying.
8. What is the current situation of the research on feathers?
A. New discoveries keep appearing. B. Every aspect has been covered.
C. People have known all the tricks. D. Less time has been spent on study.
9. What does the underlined word “inherited” mean in paragraph 4?
A. Promoted. B. Acquired. C. Recovered. D. Protected.
10. How does the author present the application of feathers in technological innovations?
A. By analyzing data. B. By explaining reasons.
C. By giving an example. D. By introducing a detail.

Running Water
It was a hot summer evening in July, and I had accepted an invitation from my friend John to visit him and his family on their farm.
The family showed me around their farm, home to about thirty black and white Holstein cows. The fields were quiet and peaceful on this lazy Sunday afternoon. The creek, a small river, which poured down out of the mountains, sparkled in the sunlight as it ran through their green land. Now it was evening, and I listened with curiosity as they told me that one of their cows would give birth to a calf (a baby cow) out in the field. I was very interested in seeing the birth of the new calf, and really wanted to stay.
On my way out the door I heard John’s father yelling something crazily from the field. The family became very excited and everyone ran out to see what was happening.
We could see their dad down by the riverside of the creek. Apparently the mother cow had wandered away from the cattle and slipped down the muddy riverside of the creek into the cold rushing water. The riverside was so high that the tractor (拖拉机) was needed to pull her out. We all ran through the field to the creek while one of John’s brothers raced to the barn (谷仓) to get the tractor.
As we reached the creek we saw the poor cow had gone below the water, which was up to her neck, with the cold water rushing around her. By now there was some panic because the tractor that was needed to pull the cow out was very slow. And it still had some distance to cover from the barn to the creek.
Suddenly one of the girls yelled out “The calf is coming. Someone has to jump in and help! ”It had been a hot day, but by now the family had changed into jeans for the evening.
注意:
1. 续写词数应150左右;

As the only one still wearing shorts, I was chosen to jump in!

Suddenly one of the girls yelled out, “The calf is coming. Someone has to jump in and help! ”It had been a hot day, but by now the family had changed into jeans for the evening.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

Now our next major concern was trying to get the calf warmed up.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】A Possible Version:
As the only one still wearing shorts, I was chosen to jump in! When I entered the water, I was shocked at how cold it really was and I found myself in ice cold rushing water up to my chest. At that moment I realized the calf was really coming—and right now. Within minutes a sixty-pound calf was born right into my arms! Moments later another pair of arms arrived to help, and the two of us floated the newborn calf to safety. The tractor finally arrived, and the rest of them succeeded in getting the calf out of the creek.
Now our next major concern was trying to get the calf warmed up. I was shivering, but the brand new calf was in real danger. One of the boys took off his T-shirt and handed it to me. I began rubbing the newborn with it to warm him up. The others had managed to rope the mother cow and were pulling her up with the tractor. The cow was now safe, and the calf finally survived. We happily talked about what we might name him, and one of the boys cleverly suggested calling him “Running Water!”
