Every day, James arrives early, armed with his broom and a smile. He cleans our classrooms, hallways, and playgrounds with a dedication (奉献) that is truly inspiring. Even though he can’t hear our laughter or conversations, he feels the warmth of our school community through our smiles and greetings.
On the day Anthony turned 60, the school wanted to give him a special surprise for him. The children gathered around him, singing “Happy Birthday” with all their hearts. James’s face lit up with a big smile, tears of joy in his eyes. He couldn’t hear the song, but he felt the love and appreciation in the air.
Scott, secretary of the school said, “The children love and respect Mr. James. They give him high fives in the halls, and he even teaches them sign language. Today he has put smiles on faces all around the world.”
James teaches us a valuable lesson: no matter what challenges life throws at us, we can overcome them with kindness and willpower. His actions remind us to appreciate the simple things in life and to be grateful for the people who make our world a better place.

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they are meant to be there… to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help figure out who you are or who you want to become.
You never know who these people may be, but when you lock eyes with them, you know that every moment they will affect your life in a profound way.
And sometimes things happen to you at the time that may seem horrible, painful and unfair, but upon reflection, you realize that without overcoming those hardships, you would have never realized your potential, strength, willpower or heart.
Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by means of good luck Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness and absolute stupidity all happen to test the limits of your soul.
Without these small tests, life would be like a smooth, straight, flat road to nowhere, safe and comfortable but meaningless. The people you meet affect your life. The successes and failures that you experience can create who you are, and the bad experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are probably the most important ones.
If someone hurts you, betrays (背叛) you or breaks your heart, forgive them because they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being careful with whom you open your heart to. If someone loves you, love them back, not only because they love you, but because they are teaching you to love and open your heart and eyes to little things.
Make every day count. Appreciate every moment and take from it everything that you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people you have never talked to before, and actually listen. Hold your head up because you have every right to. Tell yourself you are a unique individual and believe in yourself, for if you don't believe in yourself, no one else will believe in you.

Once upon a time, in a little village called Charmington, there lived a shy and unconfident girl named Lily. Lily was a kind-hearted soul, but her lack of self-assurance often led her to doubt her own beauty and worth.
One sunny day, as Lily wandered through the streets of Charmington, she came across a charming little shop filled with shining hair accessories (配饰). Among the treasures, her eyes were attracted by a lovely bow (蝴蝶结) that seemed to callout to her. Despite her hesitation, something inside Lily told her to take a small act of self-expression and pay for the bow. She bought it and gently put it in her hair. At that very moment, a magical transformation took place. Lily felt a burst of confidence, as if the bow had given her a newfound confidence and charm.
Excited about her new accessory, Lily confidently walked down the busy streets of Charmington, unaware that the bow had slipped and dropped unnoticed from her hair. Her newfound confidence made her feel beautiful inside and out. As Lily walked, something amazing began to happen. People passing by couldn’t help but notice her beauty, the warmth that shined from herself. Strangers smiled at her, complimenting her on her look and bright smile.
Confused by their compliments, Lily touched her hair, only to realize that the bow was missing. Instead of feeling embarrassed or disheartened, she couldn’t help but be amazed by the power of her own confidence. Lily began to understand that true beauty lies not in outside decorations but in self-assurance and grace. It was her confidence that had caught the attention and admiration of those around her.
51. What was the biggest challenge for Lily? (No more than 15 words.)

____________________________________________________________________________________________
55. In your opinion, how to build your own confidence? (No more than 20 words.)

53. Praising.
54. True beauty lies not in outside decorations but in self-assurance and grace.

由文章第一段“Once upon a time, in a little village called Charmington, there lived a shy and unconfident girl named Lily. Lily was a kind-hearted soul, but her lack of self-assurance often led her to doubt her own beauty and worth. (从前,在一个叫查明顿的小村庄里,住着一个害羞而不自信的女孩,她的名字叫莉莉。莉莉是一个善良的灵魂,但缺乏自信经常让她怀疑自己的美丽和价值。)”可知,莉莉害羞而不自信,她缺乏自信,常常怀疑自己的美丽和价值。故答案为:She was shy and unconfident. / Her lack of self-assurance often led her to doubt her own beauty and worth.
由文章第三段中“Excited about her new accessory, Lily confidently walked down the busy streets of Charmington, unaware that the bow had slipped and dropped unnoticed from her hair. (莉莉对她的新配饰感到兴奋,她自信地走在查明顿繁忙的街道上,没有意识到蝴蝶结已经从她的头发上滑落下来了。)”可知,莉莉的新蝴蝶结从她的头发上滑落下来。故答案为:It slipped and dropped from her hair.
由文章第三段中“ People passing by couldn’t help but notice her beauty, the warmth that shined from herself. (路过的人都注意到她的美丽,她身上散发出的温暖。)”结合画线句“Strangers smiled at her, complimenting her on her look and bright smile.(陌生人对她微笑,complimenting她的美貌和灿烂的笑容。)”
由文章最后一段中“Lily began to understand that true beauty lies not in outside decorations but in self-assurance and grace. It was her confidence that had caught the attention and admiration of those around her. (莉莉开始明白,真正的美不在于外在的装饰,而在于自信和优雅。正是她的自信引起了周围人的注意和钦佩。)”可知,真正的美不在于外表的装饰,而在于自信和优雅。故答案为:True beauty lies not in outside decorations but in self-assurance and grace.

Recently, a video story has spread among people.
James Anthony is a silent hero. He’s been cleaning in Hickerson Primary School for 15 years. His tall figure always bends as he sweeps the floors. Unlike most, James is a deaf, living in a world of silence, unable to hear the noises around him. But he never complains, for his heart is louder than any sound.

Without these small tests life would be like a smooth, straight, flat road to nowhere, safe and comfortable but meaningless.
46. Paragraph 1. tells us that ______.
A. your purpose in life means to help others
B. you know someone the moment you meet him
C. you will never know who will come into your life
D. your life is sometimes influenced deeply by someone
47. According to the passage, what can help you realize your strength?
