The reading text is “A game for the world ”. This text is an essay and the text analyzes the reasons for the popularity of football around the world. Through the study, students find out why football is popular in the world and think about which sports are as popular as football in China, guiding students to increase their awareness of different cultures. · Analysis of Students After a semester of study in the senior year, students have acquired some basic language knowledge and skills and they are capable of developing some detailed information about the text. This article is about football, which is relevant to students' lives. It is easy to stimulate students' interest in reading. However, students have less knowledge of traditional Chinese sports and foreign sports. Through learning, students can understand different sports at home and abroad and improve their knowledge of different cultures. · Teaching Objectives By the end of the class, students will be able to: 1. summarize the main content and structure of the text. 2. improve reading skills by using some reading strategies: skimming and close reading. 3. identify three reasons why football is so popular around the world. 4. discuss which sports are as popular as football in China and consider why. 5. increase knowledge of other countries' sports and raise awareness of different cultures. · Teaching focus 1. Instruct students to find three reasons why football is popular in the world through skimming and close reading. 2. Ask students to think about other sports that are as popular as football in China and consider the reasons behind them. · Teaching difficulties 1. Lead in (4 mins) 1) Ask students two questions. Q1: Do you like sport of football? Q2: What do you know about football? 1) Think and answer the teacher’s question. Introduce students to the text and stimulate their interest in reading. Step2. Pre-reading (5mins) 1) Show the picture of Activity 1 on page 26 and ask students to think about the questions "Think about what do you think these things represent in a football game ". 2) Present a video about the terms related to the game of football. 1) Talk and answer the questions. 2) Watch the video and learn more about the terms related to the game of football. 1) Introduce the content of the article to stimulate students' interest in reading. 2) Stimulate students' existing knowledge background and build relevant background knowledge for the study of the article. Step3. While-reading (18 mins） Activity 1: Fast-reading 1) Instruct students to read quickly and find out the main idea of the article. 2) Instruct students to divide the structure of the article and identify the main idea of each part Activity2:Careful reading 1) Instruct students to read the first paragraph and learn about the history of football. 2) Instruct students to read paragraphs 2 to 4 to understand and analyze the reasons why football is so popular. 3) Instruct students to read the fifth paragraph and understand the significance of football.
