thanking Justin in a low voice. As she was eating, Justin noticed a piece of paper with a phone number
written on it. Realizing the old woman may need his help, Justin called the number and explained the
situation. The old woman’s family was delighted to hear from him. They had been looking for her for
hours, and Justin’s call was of great help.
Before Justine waited long, her family arrived in a hurry. They were overjoyed to see the old
woman safe and sound, and thanked Justin for his kindness. One of them explained the old woman
had been suffering from memory loss and had wandered away from their home, and that Justin’s call

Text 1
M: Sorry, did you say anything?
W: Yes! I’ve been calling you for ages. Dad needs you in the garden.
5
M: Oh, sorry. I had my noise-canceling headphones on. I have this report to finish now, (1) and I
can’t concentrate without them.
Text 2
W: Do you miss your brother, since he has gone away to university?
M: I do. The house feels very quiet without him! Plus, he and I used to play computer games together,
which was fun. But I must admit, it’s pretty nice having our bedroom all to myself! (2)
Text 3
M:We don’t need a visa for our trip to France, right?
W: No. We’d only need one if we were planning on staying for more than 90 days at a time.
M: Oh, okay. So, we’ve got our plane tickets, and the hotel is booked…We just need cash, now!
(3)
Text 4
W: So, now that you’ve toured the building, let’s get on with the interview. Why do you want to work
at MaxiCorps?
M: Simply because it’s one of the best tech companies in the world. (4)And your education program
is world-famous. I could learn a lot here.
Text 5
W: I’m looking for my first apartment, but I have no idea where to start.
M: Well, it’s better to have a small apartment in a nice neighborhood than a big one in a bad
community. I made that mistake when I bought my first apartment and paid the price! (5)
Text 6 (第 6题为推断题)
M: Hi. Are you here to help with the river clean-up?
W: Yes, that’s right.
M: Great! It’s always nice to have new volunteers. Are you a strong swimmer?
W: Not really.
M: Okay. Then, I think I’ll put you on the team that’s cleaning further up the bank, away from the water.
Do you see the woman wearing a purple sweater and black jeans? (7)
W: The one with the red hair? Yes.
M: That’s Linda. (7) Go and talk to her. She’ll give you a bag and some gloves, and you can get
started.
W: Great, thank you!
Text 7 (第 8题为推断题)
W: Dad, would it be okay if I go out on Saturday evening?
M: That depends. Where are you going and who are you going with?
W: Just some girls from school. We’re planning to see a movie around 6:00 p.m. (9)
M: Which cinema? The one in the shopping center?
W: Yes, probably.
M: Well, okay. But I want all your homework to be done before you go out.
6
W: No problem. My teacher hasn’t given us very much, so I’ll get it done on Friday night.
M: And you mustn’t be out late. Remember, you have a piano lesson on Sunday morning.
W: Don’t worry. The movie is only two hours long, (9) so I won’t be home very late.
Text 8
W: Hi, I’m Officer Radley. Are you one of the drivers?
M: Yes! But the accident wasn’t my fault! Oh, this is terrible…
W: Alright, sir. Try to calm down. Take a few deep breaths. (10)
M: Okay… (10)
W: First things first. Are you hurt? Do you need medical help?
M: No, I don’t think so.
W: You’re shaking. Here, sit down for a moment. (10) Can you tell me what happened?
M: Well, I was driving home from work, like any other day. The lights were red, so I was waiting
at the crossroads. (11)
W: Okay.
M:When they turned green, I set off… Then suddenly, a man on a bright yellow bike came out of
nowhere! There was no time to stop. I had to turn sharply to avoid hitting him and then hit
the other car instead. (11)
W: Okay. Let me go and talk to my partner. We’ll see what the driver of the other car has to say.
(12)
Text 9
M: This will be our first trip since you retired from the university. Let’s go over the details.
W: OK. So, we will fly from here in China to the East Coast of America and stay in New York for
two nights. That’s where we spent our honeymoon. (13) (14)
M: Nice. Then we’ll rent a car, drive to Canada and drop it off in Toronto. Then we’ll spend three
nights hiking in the forests there. (14)
W:We need to decide whether we should keep heading north in Canada or return to America.
Personally, I would prefer a road trip along the West Coast of America to a train trip. How
about you? (15)
M: I agree. (15)We can start from the northwest corner of the country and end at the border between
America and Mexico. Plus, we can rent a motorhome. (16) Our bed will be just above the driver’s
seat, so we can save a lot on hotels and have a very flexible trip.
W: Hmm…We discussed that before, dear. I thought we both agreed not to rent a motorhome.
(16)
M: But I really want to try it. Can we consider it again? (16)
W:Well, let’s see… (16)
Text 10 (第 17题为总结题)

The Silk Road was an ancient network of trade routes connecting China with the West. Beginning
in the ancient Chinese capitals of Chang’an and Luoyang, the routes stretched over 4000 miles to the
Mediterranean Sea. The most western point was in Antioch, one of the four great cities of the Roman
Empire. Chinese silk, tea, perfumes(香料), pottery(陶器), and later, world-changing inventions such as
paper and gunpowder, were exported to the west. In return, western nations traded goods such as wool,
glass, honey, wine, gold, and China’s most prized import — horses. (18) As the Roman Empire
gradually lost power in Asia, the route became dangerous to travel on. However, trade improved
again during the 13th and 14th centuries. (19) The Silk Road was not just used for trading, but to
share ideas and beliefs. In all, the route was in use for more than 1500 years, ending in 1453, when
the Ottoman Empire closed off western trade. (20) However, parts of the Silk Road still exist today.
It also inspired modern China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

A new coffee shop in New York lets its customers help people with intellectual and developmental
disabilities (IDD) in every cup! This is the first coffee shop by Café Joyeux, which is based in Europe.
They hire individuals with IDD, providing valuable training and employment opportunities and
empowering them along the way.
Café Joyeux was founded in France in response to the alarming fact that over 8 million people
with IDD face an 80% unemployment rate. The coffee shop aims to fight against this inequality by not
only providing inclusive employment but also leading the way in promoting workplace inclusion more
broadly.
The story started on a sailing boat in Brittany, France, where Captain Yann Bucaille-Lanzerac, a
successful businessman, shared his passion for sailing with passengers of all abilities. During a trip,
Theo, a young man with IDD, asked Yann for a job. Yann hesitated, saying it was complicated, leaving
Theo silent. This encounter led to the creation of Café Joyeux, employing and training people with
mental and cognitive (认知的 ) disabilities, which has since expanded to over 19 locations across
Europe.
In early 2024, the first American Café Joyeux opened in New York City. Bucaille-Lannezac and
his wife, Lydwine Bucaille, founders of Café Joyeux, employed 169 team members with disabilities.
They believed their employees could provide excellent products and services, and stressed the
significance of equal rights and fair treatment in the workplace. They started by empowering their
employees and reinvesting 100% of their profits to further this mission, both within and outside their
cafés.
Early supporters, like Giovana Mullins, have praised the coffee shop Café Joyeux for its
welcoming atmosphere. “As a customer walking in, even if you don’t know what this coffee shop is all
about, you will feel the energy and the joy,” she said.
24. What problem does Café Joyeux aim to address?
A. The high pricing of coffee. B. The unemployment of people with IDD.
C. The expansion of European powers. D. The unreasonable limitations on sailing.
25. What brought about the idea for Café Joyeux?
第 5 页 共 11 页
A. A job request on a boat. B. A public awareness campaign.
C. A well-known sailing race. D. A discussion among customers.
26. What do we know about the employees with IDD in Café Joyeux?
A. They serve as volunteers. B. They are gifted in storytelling.

If you live in a region where winter weather is a regular risk, you are likely used to pouring salt
on your sidewalks. But how does it work? And how much salt do humans pour onto our planet’s
surface? The second question is easier to answer: a lot.
Salt doesn’t directly melt ice, nor does it make snow simply disappear. Instead it makes water
less likely to freeze in a phenomenon called freezing point depression. In the case of simple rock salt,
which is a rawer, less pure version of table salt, each molecule (分子 ) splits into smaller elements.
Normally, when water freezes into ice, its molecules line up to form a stable, orderly structure. Salt
interrupts the process, however, and temperatures must drop lower to overcome that interruption and
for freezing to occur.
But if salt needs to interact with liquid water, how does it do anything when temperatures are
stubbornly below freezing, and water should already be in the form of ice? That’s where cars help
clear their own way by creating friction and, in turn, heat. The friction allows for the ice that has
already frozen to melt a little bit, making it unlikely to freeze.
Beyond rock salt’s ability to clear icy streets, it can also be destructive. Chloride ions (氯离子)
can cause wear and tear on vehicles and facilities. Increasing chloride densities in North American
lakes could begin to upset local ecology and degrade sources of drinking water.
Many local governments are looking for alternatives to rock salt. Other salts such as magnesium
chloride and calcium chloride work in the same way as rock salt, and they’re perhaps even more
efficient. Some experiments are testing other ice-preventing solutions, including those that contain
sugars instead of or in addition to salts. Another approach relies more heavily on sand, which can
mechanically make roads safer. All of this experimentation is aimed at ensuring people can travel in
any weather condition—a Herculean task when winter brings its worst.
28. What’s the purpose of the first sentence in Paragraph 2?
第 6 页 共 11 页
A. To introduce the topic. B. To reveal the misconception.
C. To define the phenomenon. D. To give some evidence.
29. How does salt work to disturb the process of freezing?
A. By lowering the temperature. B. By melting and splitting itself.
C. By lining up to form a solid structure. D. By stopping the formation of the structure.
30. What does the underlined word “densities” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Weights B. Concentrations. C. Qualities. D. Salts.
31. What’s the last paragraph mainly talking about?
A. Efforts are being made to guarantee safe travels.
B. Other salts won’t disturb the local ecology.
C. Bitter winter make it impossible to secure road safety.
D. Many alternatives are available to solve the problem.

Some girls tend to feel frustrated if they have a pear-shaped body, with hips (臀部) that are wider
than the bust (胸部) and shoulders. While pear-shaped people’s waists are typically smaller, they may
have more fat on their hips and legs. As a result, many pear-shaped girls try to hide their hips and legs
under large dresses and pants.
However, a recent study suggested that pear-shaped people are the ones who won the genetic
lottery!
A study published in September by the US National Library of Medicine found that the
waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) shows the strongest and most consistent association with mortality.
Traditionally, the body mass index (BMI) has been considered the best indicator of health. However,
this study challenges this belief. It surveyed nearly 40,000 people and found that, regardless of BMI,
WHR is positively correlated with all-cause mortality (all of the deaths that occur in a population no
matter the cause). The larger the WHR, the higher the all-cause mortality rate will be. Instead of
focusing on how much fat a person has, scientists involved in this study suggest people should focus
more on how fat is distributed in a person’s body.
WHR, as its name suggests, compares your waist measurement to your hip measurement. A larger
waistline means more central fat, which could indicate more visceral fat (内脏脂肪 ), also known as
toxic fat. Harvard Medical School states that more visceral fat increases the risk of illnesses including
diabetes, heart diseases and asthma. That’s why people with a pear-shaped body tend to be healthier
than others. According to the World Health Organization(WHO), a healthy WHR is less than 0.85 for
第 7 页 共 11 页
women and less than 0.9 for men.
It is impossible to specifically target waist fat when people try to lose weight. But losing overall
fat will make the waist smaller. Researchers from Johns Hopkins University suggested we eat less
carbohydrates and more food higher in fiber and protein. Moreover, doing strength training helps build
more muscle, which makes you burn more calories even when you’re resting
32. Why do pear-shaped girls prefer baggy trousers?
A. To show off their long legs.
B. To hide their broad shoulders.
C. To showcase their slim waists.
D. To cover their wide hips and thick legs.
33. What does the recent study find that goes against the conventional belief?
A. WHR consistently correlates with death rate.
B. Pear-shaped people are much healthier.
C. Pear-shaped people are lucky to win lotteries.
D. A smaller BMI indicates healthier physical condition.
34. What does the author primarily intend to do in Paragraph 4?
A. To announce the standard WHR set by World Health Organization.
B. To reveal the huge risks of various illnesses visceral fat can bring about.
C. To explain why pear-shaped body are likely to be healthier than others.
D. To introduce what WHR refers to and how to measure our waistlines.
35. What’s the main idea of the text?
A. A practical tip for losing waist fat.
B. An unexpected benefit of pear-shaped bodies.
C. A healthy WHR recommended by WHO.
D. A typical bodyshape bringing good to health.
第二节 阅读七选五(共 5小题; 每小题 2.5分,共 12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
The opening sentences of your essay are crucial; first impressions often matter. 36 Think
of how you skim a magazine, reading a paragraph or two of each article that looks promising. If the
early paragraphs interest you, you’ll continue reading. When writing your own introductory paragraph,
assume you have limited words to attract your audience. Therefore, focus on making your initial lines
especially interesting and well written.
第 8 页 共 11 页
In some essays, a strong main point alone can attract readers. 37 The lead-in serves three
key purposes: drawing readers’ attention, introducing the essay’s topic and tone, and paving the way for
the thesis and essay outline.
Here is some advice to help you avoid common lead-in errors.
Make sure your lead-in clearly presents your main point. 38 To prevent a loose flow,
use a bridging sentence or phrase between your lead-in and main point.
Keep your lead-in brief. Long lead-ins in short essays often give the appearance of a tail wagging
the dog. 39 Don’t make your introduction the biggest part of your essay.
40 Identify the related facts even though you know your readers know the assignment.
If you are writing about a particular piece of literature or art, identify the title of the work and its author
or artist, using the full name in the first reference.
A. But how can we write a good sentence?
B. But other times, using a lead-in can help.
C. You might think of your essay as a clear, connected whole.
D. Don’t assume your readers already know your subject matter.
E. Use a brief, engaging introduction to establish your main point.
F. A common issue is an interesting start but no clear link to the main point.
G. Then, your essay’s start must attract readers’ attention and keep them engaged.

It was a jam-packed day for 24-year-old Justin. While his hot dog stand at the local park in his

hometown did well every day, that day was different. The stall was full of customers, and he was
struggling to keep up.
“3 hot dogs, please!” someone ordered as Justin handed the recent orders, and he quickly got
about his work.
“Coming right up!” he replied with a smile.
“Thank you! Have a nice day!” the customer replied upon receiving the orders, and Justin quickly
got busy with the next one. Then he noticed an old woman pushing her way through the crowd to get to
his counter (柜台).
“Excuse me, son. How much would a hot dog be?” she asked, looking at him.
“Depends on what you want, ma’ am. They range from $3 to $7. You can check out the menu and
let me know what you want,” he replied.
“But that’s expensive for me,” she mumbled (咕哝), looking at the prices. “It’s alright. I was just
curious how much they cost. I don’t want any,” she added before walking away.
Justin noticed she went away and sat alone on a bench across from his stand. She kept looking in
his direction, meanwhile touching her stomach occasionally. Justin couldn’t help watching her because
of strong curiosity. She was fully dressed with an information card worn around her neck. She might
get lost because of something unexpected. Her face wasn’t as rosy as others and her lips were dry.
Justin wondered whether she would need any help. However, once they made eye contact, she always
looked away quickly.
Eventually, Justin realized she wanted a hot dog but couldn’t afford one, so he stopped what he
was doing and walked over to her with food and drink. “I apologize, ma’am. I was in such a rush that I
forgot to tell you you’re our 50th customer of the day, so you get a free hot dog,” he said upon
approaching her. “Let me know how you like it!”
