I soon saw two pirates (强盗) lying on the deck at the back of the ship. One was dead. The other, Israel Hands, was hurt and calling for wine. I went below into the cabins to search. The cabins were broken and dirty. Finally, I found some food, a bottle of wine and some water and went back onto the deck.
I drank the water and gave Hands the wine. As he drank it, the colour returned to his face. “At present, I am controlling this ship, Mr Hands,” I said. “You need to treat me as your captain.”
He looked at me unhappily, but he could do nothing. But Israel Hands slyly watched me with strange eyes. “I imagine,” said Hands, “you want to get to the bank. But now you need my help. So give me some food and drinks, and something to tie up my wound. Then I’ll tell you how to sail the ship. That’s fair, isn’t it?”
“I want to get to North Inlets.” I said. Israel Hands agreed to give me help, and in three minutes, the Hispaniola was sailing easily along the coast of Treasure Island. I then found a scarf to help Hands tie up the knife wound in his leg. After eating and drinking, he sat up and looked better.
Israel Hands was very good at guiding me. Then we turned into the harbour.
I was concentrating (思想集中) hard on bringing in the ship in safely and forgot to pay attention to Israel Hands. When I turned around, surprised to see Hands was standing behind me, his knife in hand ready. I jumped away and ran down the deck. It surprised me how quickly he could move with his wounded leg. I quickly climbed up the ropes and prepared both my guns. Hands climbed slowly and painfully after me, his knife in his mouth.
“One more move, Mr Hands,” I said, “and I’ll kill you!” Suddenly, one of his hands went back, and a knife flew through the air. I felt a sharp pain. But both of my guns fired, and fell into the sea together with Israel Hands. —Selected from Treasure Island

Have you ever heard of the company called Xiaomi in China? It was set up in 2010. They made smartphones and many other cool gadgets (电子装置) at the beginning. With the development of the times, Xiaomi decided to do something big and different. They created their very first electric car, called the SU7, and started selling it to people. The boss of Xiaomi, a man named Lei Jun, told everyone that the starting price of this new car would be 215,900 yuan (almost $30,000). It was a big event, and people were very excited. In just 27 minutes, more than 50,000 people ordered the new car.
Now, Xiaomi isn’t the only company making electric cars. There are other big names like Tesla and BYD.Tesla is a car made in America, and it’s known for being fast and modern. The price to start for a Tesla 3 is a bit higher, 245,900 yuan. But Xiaomi’s car, the SU7, can go really, really far, at least 700 kilometers on one charge (充电)! That’s more than the Tesla Model 3, which can only go 567 kilometers. At the same time, Xiaomi is thinking about how their customers use their phones and computers. They made the SU7’s brain (operating system) work like the ones in Xiaomi’s phones and laptops (手提电脑). This way, people can get everything connected and easy to use.
Xiaomi has big dreams for their electric car business, but no one knows yet whether they will succeed. Some analysts (分析师) think that Xiaomi’s big idea will help make electric cars better and more exciting for everyone. So, what do you think? Artificial intelligence (AI) tools designed to operate at human levels have been more and more popular over the past year. These include OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Bard and Microsoft’s AI-powered search engine Bing. Such tools, also known as chatbots or generative AI, are computer-powered systems. They are designed to interact smoothly with humans and perform high-level writing and creative work.
In recent months, these tools have proved an ability to produce high-quality work. This has led some technology experts to warn that generative (生成的) Al systems could end up replacing (取代) workers in many industries.
This year, researchers at Harvard Business School and other organizations carried out an experiment. It aimed to test how well AI tools could help workers perform their usual duties or tasks. It involved more than 700 business advisors, called consultants, from Massachusetts-based Boston Consulting Group.
Harvard Business School recently published the results from the experiment in a working paper. The main findings suggest that AI tools like ChatGPT can greatly improve worker perfornance. For example, researchers found hat, on average, workers who used OpenAI’s latest ChatGPT 4 tool completed 12 percent more tasks than non-ChatGPT users. Tasks carried out with help from the Al technology were completed 25 percent faster. And the team found the quality of work performed by consultants using ChatGPT 4 increased by about 40 percent.
However, the paper also found areas where the performance of consultants using ChatGPT 4 dropped. The researchers said this was especially true with tasks the Al tool was not good at completing. “Of tasks the AI was good at, the experiment showed it greatly improved human performance,” the paper said. “But for tasks ChatGPT 4 was not right for, humans relied too much on the AI and were more likely to make mistakes.”
The team suggests one of the biggest challenges to companies effectively (有效) using AI is not knowing which tasks can be completed best with the technology. Finding this out will require businesses to carry out thoughtful research and training efforts in order to find the right mix of AI and human-level work.
32.What is a purpose of designing AI tools according to the text?
A.To perform low-level writing. B.To replace technology experts.
C.To finish high-quality work. D.To improve communication.
33.Why does the writer mention ChatGPT 4 in paragraph 4?
A.To explain the disadvantages of AI tools.
B.To show how well AI tools could help workers.
C.To show changes in the future working environment.
D.To compare the work performance between humans and AI tools.
34.What can be learned from the last paragraph?
A.Companies need to balance the work of AI and humans.
B.It is useless to train so many workers to learn to use AI.
C.It is easy to find the right mix of AI and human-level work.
D.Research on using AI effectively has been made by businesses.
35.What is the best title for the text?
A.ChatGPT Can See, Hear and Speak Now
B.Ways to Improve Your Performance at Work
C.The Fast Development of Artificial Intelligence
D.AI Tools Help but also Harm Worker Performance

B.To show how well AI tools could help workers.
C.To show changes in the future working environment.
D.To compare the work performance between humans and AI tools.
34.What can be learned from the last paragraph?
A.Companies need to balance the work of AI and humans.
B.It is useless to train so many workers to learn to use AI.
C.It is easy to find the right mix of AI and human-level work.

Second, if we are the host, we should arrive earlier 59 the door and introduce them to their seats. If we 60 (invite) to the meal, we should listen to the host and take a seat.
Third, we shouldn’t ask the waiters the 61 (dish) prices or bargain (讨价还价) with them when we order, which shows we are not generous. And that 62 (make) guests feel uncomfortable.
The last point to note is about eating manners. It is 63 (polite) to urge (力劝) guests to take the dish, but it’s acceptable to introduce the special dishes. Whether they eat or not depends on 64 (they). It’s also unwise to take a dish for guests, because we are not sure 65 they like it.
