While developing itself, China never fails to offer a helping hand to its friends. On the Road to Peace China has now been part of the UN peacekeeping missions (任务) for more than 30 years. UN peacekeeping missions provide different services including protecting civilians (平民). In April 2023, the Chinese peacekeepers carried out an important task in Sudan. They successfully sent more than 1,100 people to safe places. Into the Disaster Area (灾区) In disaster areas, uniforms with “China Rescue (救援)” on the back offer a sign of hope and love. The Chinese rescue team is known for its quick and well-organized search and rescue work. When earthquakes happened in Afghanistan and Nepal in October 2023, “China Rescue” quickly took action to transport things needed to the disaster areas. Railway of Friendship There are many high mountains between China and its neighboring country, Laos. The China-Laos Railway has broken through those barriers. This amazing achievement was made possible by the Lao workers and a large number of Chinese workers. They traveled far from their homes to build 1,035 kilometers of railway lines, including 301 bridges and 167 tunnels (隧道). Many scientists agree that the glaciers around the world could disappear in this century, much faster than we thought. ②As we all know, the reason for this is global (全球的) warming. When certain gas such as carbon dioxide (CO₂) is largely emitted (排放) into the atmosphere, it causes the greenhouse effect (效应) which makes Earth warmer. ③As Earth becomes warmer, glaciers melt quickly, and dark rocks are uncovered. Then these rocks take in more heat, causing the temperature to rise. As a result, the remaining snow on glaciers melts faster. ④The effects of global warming will be far-reaching and often devastating (毁灭性的). While the melting of glaciers may flood (淹没) some areas of Earth, in other places, it is making water disappear. An increasing number of heat waves and droughts (干旱) worldwide will also change the face of the world in the future. ⑤Global warming is a real problem, and one largely caused by human activity. Solving the problem is not easy, and there is no single magic way. However, we can begin it by lowering the amount of CO₂ in our daily lives. ⑥Peter Miller, along with his wife, took part in a scientific test to see how much CO₂ they could cut down in a month. The average (平均) U.S. household produces about 80 kilos of CO₂, which was more than twice the European average and almost five times the global average. Their final goal was to make less CO₂ than most American families. ⑦First, they found out how much CO₂ they were producing. Then they asked an expert for advice on how to reduce CO₂ emissions. According to the expert’s advice, they made some changes to their house, replaced their lights, and changed some of their living habits. At the same time, they either biked, walked, or used public transportation. A month later, they saved 70% on electricity, 40% on gas, and drove half as much as others. Their daily CO₂ emissions were less than the U.S. average, at 32 kilos. ⑧Protecting our planet starts small: change a light, open a window, walk or bike. With a little effort, and not much money, most of us can make a difference. 5.Why was the ski place, Chacaltaya, closed in 2009? A.Because the ski place was too old. B.Because few tourists came to this place. C.Because the ski place was too high to reach. D.Because the 18,000-year-old glacier melted. 6.How does the writer show that Peter succeeded in the scientific test? A.By listing numbers. B.By asking questions. C.By giving explanations. D.By giving suggestions. 7.Which of the following can match the information in the passage? A. B. C. D. 8.Which of the following shows the structure of this passage? A. B. C. Its earliest common use dates from the Han Dynasty. The term pingfeng means protection from wind, showing its purpose at the very beginning. As time passes, it has been made into different sizes with colourful paintings. On screens usually appears a dragon. It’s a symbol of light, growth and life-giving water. It also stands for nobility and power. The peacock, a beautiful bird, can be seen on screens, too. It’s a symbol of everlasting life. Beautiful flowers, which mean wealth and good luck, are also chosen as a popular design of the pingfeng. All the designs carry people’s beautiful wishes. China has kept the promise to hold a green Olympics. Many green actions made it possible, like providing environmentally friendly smart beds, using new energy(能源) cars, supporting sporting places with 100% clean energy and reusing rain and snow water. Take making ice as an example. China didn’t use R507, a common material to make ice, because it isn’t friendly enough to the environment. Through 18 months’ hard work, China independently developed the CO₂ direct cooling technology. A net of tubes runs under the ice. High-pressure liquid(液态) CO₂ goes through them to create heat(热) exchange. The CO₂ evaporates(蒸发) under the ice surface. The evaporation takes in heat and turns water on the surface into ice. And the CO₂ goes into another circle. This technology helps to make ice better and faster. And above all, it is much greener because there’s no new CO₂ produced. Among all the 15 ice sporting places in the Winter Olympics, 7 used the CO₂ direct cooling technology to make ice. As a result, much less pollution was caused. Beijing did so much more to save energy. Beijing built the new sporting places with green materials. As for the old ones, Beijing used new glass walls to take the place of traditional walls to let more natural light in. 70% of the waste heat was also reused to keep warm and dry. And a large number of new energy cars were used at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics is the first to truly achieve carbon neutrality(碳中和), and it has set new standards in green technologies. Some newspapers say China has set an example for the world in environmental protection and green development. 29.How long did it take China to develop the CO₂ direct cooling technology? A.18 months. B.100 weeks. C.15 days. D.7 years. 30.The writer writes Para. 3 to show ________. A.why the CO₂ goes into another circle B.how the new ice-making technology helped C.how sporting places used the new technology D.why the liquid CO₂ runs through the net of tubes 31.According to the passage, we can infer(推断) that ________. A.all the buildings will be built with glass walls in the near future B.the CO₂ direct cooling technology may be widely used in the world C.the high-pressure liquid CO₂ will totally take the place of R507 soon D.no new standards in green technologies may be set after the Olympics 32.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage? Where does the waste go? People usually burn or bury(埋)it. On the other hand, we receive waste from some developed countries. We get useful materials from it. What about the useless part? Still burned or buried. But is it a proper way? Waste pollutes the environment, harms people's health and causes animals to die. It also gets in the way of green and sustainable development. We can't make money at the cost of the environment. We should leave clean water and green mountains to our next generations(一代人). China is getting really serious about waste now. We are taking less waste from developed countries. From January 2018, China started to stop 24 kinds of waste coming into our country. And more laws and rules about dealing with waste have been made. Anyone who breaks the law will be punished. China also tries to put waste into good use. One example is the waste electricity factories. They burn waste to make electricity in a green way. No harmful gases or water will get into the environment. The Chinese government is encouraging people to do waste sorting(分类). Cities like Shanghai, Chongqing and Beijing have their own sorting systems. More will join them soon. As President Xi Jinping said during a visit to Shanghai, waste sorting is a new fashion(时尚). More and more people are forming the habit of separating their waste. 41.The writer starts the passage by _________. It led me to buy matching shoes and earrings. This reminded me of the “birdcage effect”, a psychological phenomenon (心理现象) when getting one thing makes you want to get more things to go with it. The story behind the birdcage effect is quite fascinating. One day, the psychologist James made a bet (打赌) with his friend Carlson, saying that Carlson would keep a bird soon. Hearing this, Carlson said “Are you kidding? I have never had this idea.” Later, James gave Carlson a birdcage on his birthday. When friends who visited Carlson’s house saw the cage, they all thought that Carlson had raised birds. Carlson was tired of explaining and finally he bought a bird. As online shopping is popular today, the birdcage effect is more common especially among students. For example, a friend of mine wanted to buy a good pen to match a nice notebook that her sister had given her. She believed it would make her enjoy reading and note-taking. A However, she saw it differently. The beautiful notebook led her to get a good pen, buy a book she liked and start note-taking. She regraded it as a wonderful example of using the birdcage effect positively (积极地) to develop positive habits. After that, I decided to use the birdcage effect positively as well. I bought a nice tablecloth for my desk and a beautiful notebook for my ideas. With everything ready, I found myself writing again. In life, we will meet many forms of the “birdcage effect”. If it leads to unnecessary spending, it’s negative (消极的). We should stop it in time and keep a balance. But if it’s a positive birdcage effect that encourages us to grow and develop, we should see it a chance to help us achieve our goals. You will find that the “birdcage effect” is not scary at all! 49.What does the underlined phrase “this idea” refer to? A.Making a bet. B.Telling a joke. C.Buying a birdcage. D.Keeping a bird. 50.According to the passage, what can be seen as “birdcage effect”? A.In KFC, you get coke for free and then you buy hamburgers and French fries to go with it. B.Tim wrote some words on the whitewall and soon the wall was full of drawings and words. C.Amy becomes an excellent singer because her teacher told her she was talented in singing. D.Xiao Ye is from Chongqing, so his friends all believe that he likes eating hot pot. 51.Which of the following sentences can be put in the ▲ in Para.3? A.I believed that she would soon love taking notes in this way, too. B.I believed that it was a perfect example of avoiding the birdcage effect. C.I thought this was a typical example of the birdcage effect. D.I thought that she would hate reading and taking notes if she did so. 52.Why did the writer use her friend’s story? A.To help us understand what the birdcage effect is. B.To show us that the birdcage effect is quite scary. C.To call on others to be against the birdcage effect. D.To advise us to use the birdcage effect positively. 根据“One day, the psychologist James made a bet (打赌) with his friend Carlson, saying that Carlson would keep a bird soon. Hearing this, Carlson said ‘Are you kidding? (2024·重庆·中考真题)①The world’s highest ski place, Chacaltaya, was closed after the 18,000-year-old glacier melted (冰川融化) in 2009. A. B. C. D.
