It had been my home station when I first lived in London in my 20s. When I stepped off the train and onto the platform, a strange thing happened. For a moment, I felt time collapse, and my feet automatically (自动地) picked up the way they’d followed every day for seven years. At that time, I couldn’t have told you whether I was 24 or 42. The girl from the past and the woman here now were one and the same. I felt her enthusiasm and sense of self-belief, realizing them as real and as a memory at the same time. When I came out of the station, my body was made to go left — to follow the path home — until my mind corrected it, turned me right, and sent me off into the day. At that moment I was very clear about what I was thinking, but it made me wonder about what it’s like to go back. When I stood at the station, however, I saw the advantage in looking back. I asked myself if my 24-year-old self would be proud of me today. Perhaps there would be something that she’d be excited about — the people I’ve worked with and the friends I’ve kept. Maybe that’s what she’d cherish, while I tried to explain to her the concepts of ‘cost-of-living’ and mortgage Looking back also allowed me to remember how big she dreamed and how enthusiastically she believed in things. I remembered her love of fun and how much she enjoyed a party. For a few days after, I found myself turning to Apple Music lists belonging to my 24-year-old self and dancing to them, timelines merging once again. Looking back gives me the energy to move forwards. 4. What do we know about the author in her 20s? A. She walked to work every day. B. She worked in the Tube station. C. She lived alone in a train station. D. She lived in London for seven years. 5. What does the underlined part “sent me off into the day” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Led me towards the light. B. Brought me back to reality. C. Made my dream a reality. D. Took me on the way home. 6. What would the author value if she could turn back to 24? A. Money. B. Workplace. C. Friendship. D. Education. 7. What can be a suitable title for the text? A 24-year-old Self Is Always with Me B. My Old Days in London Benefit My Life C. Double Selves Are My Best Self D. Recalling the Past Gives Me Energy C A new report has showed that the number of birds illegally trapped and killed in Cyprus increased to more than 400,000 in the autumn of 2023. The report, published by BirdLife Cyprus and supported by RSPB and CABS, details how the number of birds killed has increased by an estimated 90,000 to 435,000. Cyprus is a important stop-off point every autumn. Vast numbers of birds will stop here during their annual migration from Europe to Africa. Many birds touching down are illegally trapped and killed by criminal gangs (团伙), before being old to restaurants where they are eaten as an expensive local dish. Autumn is the main trapping season in Cyprus, as migrating birds have built up their fat. People who illegally eat these bids consider them to be of better quality at this time of year, because of this higher fat content. After returning from Africa in the spring, the birds will reduce most of their fat and are judged to be of lower quality. Since 2014, Cypriot law enforcement authorities (执法机构) and the anti-poaching unit (反偷猎小队) have worked with BirdLife Cyprus, the CABS and the RSPB, which has led to a huge drop in the number of traps found and birds killed. Last autumn, however, the work of the anti-poaching unit decreased. This is thought to be a significant factor behind the 2023 increase in numbers. “Our international premiership has shown that we can deal with this criminal activity together. However, last autumn shows that more still needs to be done,” says Mark Thomas, head of RSPB investigations. “We cannot allow the progress we’ve made to be undone and bird killings to return to the previous annoying levels. By working together, we can make this a thing of the past.” 8. What has been detailed in the report? A. How the number of killed birds increased. B. How the migrating birds are trapped and killed. C. How the anti-poaching unit worked with media. D. How many migrating birds have been trapped so far. 9. What can be inferred from paragraphs 2-3? A. Illegally eating birds is very popular in Cyprus. B. Birds migrate from Europe to Africa all year around. C. Birds returning from Africa reduce greatly in number. D. In Cyprus more birds are trapped in autumn than in spring. 10. What do Mark Thomas’s words mean? A. It’s impossible to control bird killing. B. Teaming up can be more effective. C. The anti-poaching unit did its best. D. More measures should be adopted. 11. What do you think of the bird conservation in Cyprus according to the text? A. It remains challenging. B. It is a model of success. C. It has promoted local tourism. D. It is well-organized. D Recently, an experimental pair of gloves has been invented. It isn’t fashionable or useful for keeping anyone’s hands warm. Instead, it serves a different purpose: teaching piano and other hands-on skills. MIT graduate student Yiyue Luo and her colleagues created these “smart gloves” using touch technology. Researchers used the gloves to record one pianist’s hand movements while playing a song. They then received and sent on those movements to a student through fingertip vibrations. This will help the learner build muscle memory and perform the piece with greater accuracy. “Hand-based movements like piano playing are difficult to record and transfer.” Luo says. “But with these gloves, we can track one person’s touch experience and share it with another person to improve their touch learning process.” When a piano teacher wearing the gloves repeatedly performed a tune, a machine-learning algorithm (算法) processed their movement on the keys and translated it into vibrations. Students wearing their own gloves then attempted to play the same tune, with the fingertip vibrations guiding them through proper movements. By the trials’ (试验) end, students who had practiced with the gloves could play more accurately than those who had not. “This type of learning is like when you’re first starting to ride a bike,” says engineer Marcia O’Malley. “You use the training wheels to get the feeling of properly riding the bike. Eventually you take them off and start to ride independently.” Playing piano is often just for fun, but O’Malley adds that, with an improved algorithm, the new glove technology can someday help to teach crucial practices such as surgeries. “When vibration is actually felt directly at the point of action, we can act and learn quicker and with that, there’s so much potential.” she says. 12. Who are the experimental gloves suitable for? A. Pupils learning skills from craftsmen. B. Performers planning shows for a theatre. C. Professors giving lecture to the students. D. Policemen asking criminals for information. 13. What is the advantage of the gloves? A. Aiding learners to build up muscle. B. Making touch learning process easier. C Improving the speed of piano playing. D. Teaching varieties of hand movements. 14. Why is the example of learning to ride a bike mentioned? A. To offer supporting evidence. B. To explain the type of learning. C. To show the differences. D. To suggest another possibility. 15. What is O’Malley’s attitude toward the new glove technology? A. Doubtful. B. Curious. C. Approving. D. Unclear. SETTING A GOAL OF PAINTING You’ll find that having a clear goal when you go out painting will make you a better painter, faster. ____16____ The goals are as follows. Many artists, however, often enjoy bringing a painting fully to completion at the scene. ____20____ A Have a good trip B. Gather reference materials C. Before this you’d better make a plan D. We had shared everything-our dreams, our fears, and our deepest secrets. She was the friend I cherished most in the world. Three months before our senior high graduation, we were told that the “Excellent Graduate” would be chosen from our class. Anna and I were absolutely the right ones. But only one of us would be there. In the weeks that came after, I became very aware of how I studied and how well I did in my work. I double-checked al my assignments and test scores carefully to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Ana also started working harder, staying up late to study in the library. The came the day of he evaluation (评选).Our teachers, aware of our friendship, offered words of comfort. “No matter which of you becomes an excellent graduate, I hope you will still be good friends.” they said. A week later, the announcement was made. I was named the “Excellent Graduate”. I felt really happy for a moment. Then I started to feel bad and worried about Anna. I thought she might be angry with me, but what surprised me was seeing deep sadness in her eyes that made me feel bad. Instead of sharing my joy, we fell into an awkward distance. An Intro to Latin America部分中“Stubborn Mule’s new two-week Best of Guatemala family itinerary (行程) includes going boating on Lake Atitlán and a tour of visiting and learning the Mayan ruins at Tikal.”(Stubborn Mule的两周危地马拉最佳家庭行程包括在阿蒂特兰湖划船,参观和学习蒂卡尔的玛雅遗址。) 故选A项。 根据Ancient Treasures in Egypt部分中“Cairo’s Grand Egyptian Museum is expected to open in early 2024 after years of construction, bringing together nearly 5,000 artifacts (手工艺品) from Tutankhamun’s Tomb. Now, it’s the time for history fans to book a trip to Egypt.”(开罗的埃及大博物馆预计将于2024年初开业,汇集了图坦卡蒙墓中的近5000件文物。 B Recently, I found myself back at the Tube station. A Led me towards the light. B. Brought me back to reality. C. Made my dream a reality. D. Took me on the way home. 6. What would the author value if she could turn back to 24? A. Money. B. Workplace. C. Friendship. D. Education. 7 What can be a suitable title for the text? A. 24-year-old Self Is Always with Me B. My Old Days in London Benefit My Life C. Double Selves Are My Best Self D. Recalling the Past Gives Me Energy 【答案】4. D 5. B 6. C 7. 根据第一段中“It had been my home station when I first lived in London in my 20s.(当我最初20多岁住在伦敦时,这是我回家的站台)”和“For a moment, I felt time collapse, and my feet automatically (自动地) picked up the way they’d followed every day for seven years.(有那么一瞬间,我感到时间崩塌了,我的双脚自动走上了七年来每天走的路)” 可知,作者在20多岁时在伦敦住了七年。 根据划线句上文“At that time, I couldn’t have told you whether I was 24 or 42. The girl from the past and the woman here now were one and the same.(当时,我无法告诉你我是24岁还是42岁。过去的那个女孩和现在的这个女人实际上是同一个人)”可知,作者回到年轻时常坐的伦敦地铁站,瞬间被带回过去的生活轨迹,已经分不清自己是过去24岁的那个女孩,还是现在42岁的这个女人。结合划线部分所在句“When I came out of the station, my body was made to go left — to follow the path home — until my mind corrected it, turned me right, and sent me off into the day.(当我走出车站时,我的身体不由自主地往左走——沿着回家的路——直到我的理智纠正了它,让我往右走,sent me off into the day)”中“my body was made to go left”和“my mind corrected it, turned me right”可推知,身体本能地想要向左走,因为那是过去七年里每天回家的路,但作者的意识纠正了这个方向,使她向右拐,回到现实。因此,划线部分“sent me off into the day”指的是让作者回到现实中。 根据第三段中“I asked myself if my 24-year-old self would be proud of me today. Perhaps there would be something that she’d be excited about — the people I’ve worked with and the friends I’ve kept. Maybe that’s what she’d cherish(我问自己,24岁的我是否会为今天的自己感到骄傲。也许有些事情会让她感到兴奋——我共事过的人和保持联系的朋友。也许那会是她所珍惜的)” 可知,如果作者能回到24岁,她会珍视的是与同事和朋友的关系,即友谊。故选C项。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其结合最后一段中“Looking back also allowed me to remember how big she dreamed and how enthusiastically she believed in things. I remembered her love of fun and how much she enjoyed a party. For a few days after, I found myself turning to Apple Music lists belonging to my 24-year-old self and dancing to them, timelines merging once again. Looking back gives me the energy to move forwards.(回首往事,也让我想起她有多么大的梦想,多么热情地相信事情。我记得她对乐趣的热爱,她是多么喜欢聚会。在那之后的几天里,我发现自己打开了属于24岁自己的Apple Music列表,跟着它们跳舞,时间线再次重合。回首往事给了我前进的动力)”可知,文章主要讲述了作者回忆过去在伦敦生活的经历,并从中汲取能量,激励自己向前看。因此,“Recalling the Past Gives Me Energy(回忆过去给了我能量)”最符合文章主旨,是最合适的标题。故选D项。 C A new report has showed that the number of birds illegally trapped and killed in Cyprus increased to more than 400,000 in the autumn of 2023. A 9. D 10. D 11. 根据第一段中“The report, published by BirdLife Cyprus and supported by RSPB and CABS, details how the number of birds killed has increased by an estimated 90,000 to 435,000.(这份报告由塞浦路斯国际鸟盟发布,并得到了RSPB和CABS的支持。报告详细描述了被捕杀的鸟类数量是如何从9万只增加到43.5万只的)”可知,这份报告详细介绍了被杀鸟类的数量是如何增加的。故选A项。 根据第二段中“Cyprus is a important stop-off point every autumn. Vast numbers of birds will stop here during their annual migration from Europe to Africa. (每年秋天,塞浦路斯都是一个重要的中途停留点。大量的鸟类每年从欧洲迁徙到非洲时都会在这里停留)”和第三段“Autumn is the main trapping season in Cyprus, as migrating birds have built up their fat. People who illegally eat these bids consider them to be of better quality at this time of year, because of this higher fat content. After returning from Africa in the spring, the birds will reduce most of their fat and are judged to be of lower quality.(秋天是塞浦路斯主要的捕鸟季节,因为候鸟已经积累了脂肪。 根据最后一段中Mark Thomas的话“Our international partnership has shown that we can deal with this criminal activity together. However, last autumn shows that more still needs to be done(我们的国际伙伴关系表明,我们可以共同对付这一犯罪活动。然而,去年秋天的情况表明,仍有更多工作要做)”和“We cannot allow the progress we’ve made to be undone and bird killings to return to the previous annoying levels. By working together, we can make this a thing of the past. (我们不能让我们所取得的进展付之一篑,不能让杀鸟行为回到之前恼人的水平。通过共同努力,我们可以让这件事成为过去)”可知,Mark Thomas认为通过国际合作可以共同应对这种犯罪活动,但还需要做更多的工作。由此推知,Mark Thomas的意思是应该采取更多措施来加强合作,更有效地打击非法捕鸟行为。故选D项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Last autumn, however, the work of the anti-poaching unit decreased. This is thought to be a significant factor behind the 2023 increase in numbers.(然而,去年秋天,反偷猎部门的工作减少了。这被认为是2023年数量增加背后的一个重要因素)”和“Our international premiership has shown that we can deal with this criminal activity together. However, last autumn shows that more still needs to be done(我们的国际伙伴关系表明,我们可以共同对付这一犯罪活动。然而,去年秋天的情况表明,仍有更多工作要做)”的描述可知,虽然执法机构和反偷猎小队已经取得了很大的进展,但是反偷猎小队的工作量在减少,去年鸟类被捕杀的数量在增加,还需要做更多的工作来保护鸟类。所以,我们可以认为塞浦路斯的鸟类保护工作仍然充满挑战。故选A项。 D Recently, an experimental pair of gloves has been invented. C. Improving the speed of piano playing. A. Doubtful. B. Curious. C. Approving. D. Unclear. 12. A 13. B 14. B 15. Explore an area. ____17____. When in Scotland for the first time, I didn’t know what to paint. So, rather than making finished paintings, I focused on just sketching (素描) the things that were new to me. It’s a relaxing approach to painting, and it helps you get familiar with a strange land. ____18____. It’s like exploring, but with more focus. On my Scotland trip, I became fond of a beautiful, ancient stone bridge and knew I wanted to make a big painting of it when I got home. I collected color studies in gouache (水粉画), pencil sketches and photos. Once home, where I had all the tools and materials ready, I was able to create that larger work. Work on a skill or problem. This is usually a workshop goal, but you can do it on your own. If you don’t understand color temperature, consider making color studies in different temperature. ____19____: Is it true that white in shadow is darker than black in light? See for yourself by observing and painting such a situation. Create a finished painting. This can be a difficult task compared to the others. You have to be at the top of your game, employing good design, good color and good edge treatment. I usually do this for open-air contests or when I’m practicing for one. Many artists, however, often enjoy bringing a painting fully to completion at the scene. ____20____ A. Have a good trip B. Gather reference materials C. Before this you’d better make a plan D. This is what I do if I’m in unfamiliar area E. Or you may have a question you want to answer F. We had been in the same class through primary school, junior high and senior high. We had always spent time reading books in the library. We had been both the top students in our class. It seemed like our friendship had been broken. In the following days, Anna’s sad eyes stayed with me. Yet, during the pain, a strong desire grew in me—to fix our broken friendship, to bring back the bond that had meant so much to me. I started thinking about all the times Anna and I enjoyed together, and then an idea came to me. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the day of our graduation ceremony, I was expecting Anna’s presence. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 I started thinking about all the times Anna and I enjoyed together, and then an idea came to me. I remembered the long hours we spent in the library, discussing books and dreaming about our futures. It dawned on me that the true essence of our friendship lay not in the accolades or titles we received, but in the unbreakable bond we shared. Determined to mend our relationship, I decided to write Anna a heartfelt letter, expressing my gratitude for her friendship and apologizing for any hurt I might have caused. On the day of our graduation ceremony, I was expecting Anna’s presence. With a mix of nervousness and anticipation. As I walked towards the stage to receive my award, my eyes scanned the audience, searching for her familiar face. To my relief, there she was, sitting in the front row, her eyes fixed on me with a soft smile. In my speech, I acknowledged the importance of friendship and the role it played in shaping us into the individuals we were today. I thanked Anna for being my constant companion and for the countless memories we had shared. As I concluded my speech, I looked directly at her and said, “To my dear friend, Anna, let’s continue to support each other, not just in our successes but also in our failures. 词汇激活 行为类 ①想起:remember/recall ②造成:cause/contribute ③寻找:search for/hunt for 情绪类 ①紧张:nervousness/tension ②感激:gratitude/thankfulness 【点睛】[高分句型1] To my relief, there she was, sitting in the front row, her eyes fixed on me with a soft smile.
