B. By listening to music before sleeping.
C. By drinking a hot chocolate drink before sleeping.
20. What does the speaker suggest schools do?
A. Offer sports classes. B. Shorten the school day. C. Delay school starting time.
C 18. A 19. A 20. C
M: Hello, everybody. I’m Max. Today I will discuss the effects of sleep on school students. Many teenagers are getting little sleep and there are concerns that this could have a serious long-term effect on their body health and spirits. But we aren’t sure about that now. However, one study has clearly shown that high school students getting low grades also get, on average, one hour less sleep than students getting high grades. Then why aren’t teenagers getting enough sleep? I think they spend too much time on TV and computer games.
So how can teenagers fall asleep more easily? Well, don’t have any soft drinks or any drinks that contain chocolate before sleeping. Reading a book or listening to a story rather than music should help your brain relax. It would be better for schools to stay open longer so that pupils can do homework before they get home. Another thing that some schools have tried successfully is to begin the school day half an hour later and end the school day half an hour later. And I really recommend that.

Adrian’s “Amazing Race” started early, when his parents realized that he, as a baby, couldn’t hear a thing, not even loud noises. In a special school for the hearing-impaired (听觉受损的), he learned sign language and got to mix with other disabled children. However, the sight of all the disabled children communicating with one another upset his mother. She wanted him to lead a normal life. So after speaking to an advisor, she sent him to private classes where he learned to read lips and pronounce words.
Later, Adrian’s parents decided to send him to a regular school. But the headmaster tried to stop them from doing so, saying regular schools couldn’t look after a student with special needs. His parents decided to take the risk and push him hard to go through his work every day because they wanted to prove that — given the chance, he could do anything. Adrian made the grade and got accepted. It was a big challenge. The pace was faster so he had to sit at the front of the class and really pay attention to the teacher, which wasn’t always easy. But he stuck to it and did a lot of extra work after school.
The effort made by Adrian and his parents paid off. Adrian graduated with good grades and got into a top high school. He also achieved a lot in life out of school. He developed a love for the outdoors and went to Nepal to climb mountains. He even entered the World Yacht (帆船) Race 18/19 — being the first hearing-impaired Asian to do so.
But none of these achievements would have been possible without one of the most important lessons from his mother. “If you believe in yourself and work hard, you can achieve great results,” she often said.
24. How did Adrian’s mother feel when she saw the disabled children communicating?
A. Amazed. B. Worried. C. Ashamed. D. Puzzled.
25. What does the second paragraph mainly tell us?
A. What kind of troubles Adrian met with when communicating with others.
B. Why the headmaster prevented Adrian from being accepted into the school.
C. What possible measures the teachers took to give a hand to Adrian at school.
D. How Adrian managed to overcome challenges to get along well with his studies.
26. What can we infer from the third paragraph?
A. Adrian did quite well in yachting.
B. Adrian went to Nepal to do volunteer work.
C. Adrian was unable to go into a top high school.
D. Adrian preferred studying indoors to doing outdoor sports.
27. Why did Adrian’s mother often say the words in the last paragraph?
A. To amuse him. B. To criticise him. C. To inspire him. D. To annoy him.
B 25. D 26. A 27. C
根据第一段中“However, the sight of all the disabled children communicating with one another upset his mother. She wanted him to lead a normal life. (然而,看到所有残疾儿童相互交流,使得他的母亲不安。她希望他过正常的生活)”可知,看到残疾儿童交流,Adrian的母亲感觉不安,即对儿子无法过正常生活感觉担忧。故选B项。
【25题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第二段中“His parents decided to take the risk and push him hard to go through his work every day because they wanted to prove that—given the chance, he could do anything. Adrian made the grade and got accepted. It was a big challenge. The pace was faster so he had to sit at the front of the class and really pay attention to the teacher, which wasn’t always easy. But he stuck to it and did a lot of extra work after school.
根据第三段中“He even entered the World Yacht (帆船) Race 18/19—being the first hearing-impaired Asian to do so. (他甚至参加了18/19世界帆船赛,成为第一个参加比赛的亚洲听障人士)”可推知,Adrian在帆船运动方面做得很好。故选A项。

A retired couple in the Netherlands have moved into Europe’s first fully 3D-printed house. The two-bedroom bungalow (平房) in Eindhoven is the first of five homes planned on the site in the coming months, using a huge 3D-printer. It’s part of some special teamwork between Eindhoven University of Technology and the Vesteda housing company called Project Milestone.
This house was designed by an architect and printed using a huge robotic arm in a special warehouse (仓库). The printer uses a nozzle (喷嘴) that squirts out special substance to print out the building, layer by layer.
Once the house had been printed it was transported by vehicle to the building site where it was placed on a foundation, and a roof and windows were added.
In the longer term, many in the building industry believe that 3D-printed homes could become a sustainable solution for tackling housing shortages. The technology is friendlier to the environment and reduces costs because it uses less concrete and homes are quicker to build. The new home took just 120 hours to print, much quicker than building a house in the traditional way, which can take around 1-2 years to build.
The new owners Elize Lutz and Harrie Dekkers, will pay $800 a month to live in the house for six months, after they responded to a request for volunteers.
“I saw a drawing of this house and it looked exactly like a garden,” said Elize. “It’s beautiful.” “It feels safe,” added Harrie.
Construction companies in the US and France have already been using 3D printing to build parts of homes, but this one is the first to be fully built and have people live in it.
28. What’s the aim of mentioning a retired couple?
A. To stress their wealthy background.
B. To advertise to sell a 3D-printed house.
C. To introduce the topic of the 3D printing.
D. To explain their reason for moving the 3D-printed house.
29. What can be learned about the 3D-printed house?
A. It cost less and was finished more quickly.
B. It was completed within around 1-2 years.
C. It was designed in a two-bedroom bungalow.
D. It was added a roof and windows in a special warehouse.
30 What do the retired couple think of the 3D-printed house?
A. Environmentally-friendly but unsafe. B. Expensive but well-designed.
C. Cheap and common. D. Pretty and secure.
31. Where can the text be found?
A. In a history book. B. In a novel.
C. In an art magazine. D. In a newspaper.
C 29. A 30. D 31. D

Life on this planet, in all its wide diversity, is disappearing more quickly now than it was at any time in human history, and about 1 million species of plants and animals face extinction, a new research from the IPBES, an organization of the United Nations, has found.
The IPBES published a full report about the new research. The future for the species that we share the planet with — and on which we depend — is dire according to the report.
On land, the number of animals has decreased by an average of 20 percent, mostly in the last 120 years. Moreover, 1 million square kilometers(386,000 square miles) of tropical forest have been lost since 1980. In the ocean, about a third of corals and marine mammals(海洋哺乳动物) face possible extinction.
Humans have played a major role in these declines, from the way in which we use the land and oceans, such as farming, fishing to logging and mining. The chemicals we use pollute the air and water. Global warming caused by population explosion, air pollution, ecological destruction and so on has forced some species to leave their traditional habitats. All of these have left their mark on Earth’s biodiversity, the report says.
Many experts said that the report demonstrates the need for urgent action. “The IPBES report makes it clear that our response to protecting natural systems must be stronger than ever,” John Robinson said. “The IPBES report on the global state of biodiversity is shocking but not entirely surprising,” said Andrew Norton. “The question is how many evidences and repeated warnings it will take to wake us up to the urgency and act.”
32. What does the underlined word “dire“ in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Inspiring. B. Worthless. C. Terrible. D. Excellent.
33. How does the author describe the reduced biodiversity in paragraph 3?
A. By analyzing the cause. B. By listing data.
C. By answering questions. D. By making comparisons.
34. What can we infer from Andrew Norton’s words?
A. We need more time to think before we take steps.
B. It is high time to take action to protect biodiversity.
C. Our response to protecting natural systems is stronger than ever.
D. Humans have already realized the urgency of protecting biodiversity.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. A Rapid Decline in Biodiversity B. Humans’ Efforts to Save Nature
C. Experts’ Opinions on the IPBES Report D. A Slow Response to Protecting the Biodiversity
C 33. B 34. B 35. A

根据最后一段最后一句“The question is how many evidences and repeated warnings it will take to wake us up to the urgency and act.(问题是需要多少证据和反复的警告才能唤醒我们的紧迫感并采取行动)”可推断,Andrew Norton认为到了人们应该意识到保护生物多样性的紧迫性并立即采取行动的时候了。故选B。

A. Ask open-ended questions
B. Keep the conversation flowing
C. It is important to express yourself
D. As with any good conversation, the biggest key is to listen
E. Stick to saying nice things if you’re trying to make small talks
F. Thankfully, filling these silences isn’t as difficult as it may seem
G. This will help you to fill the silences instead of struggling for words in the moment
F 37. G 38. A 39. D 40. E
前文“We all know what it’s like when a conversation dies off and you’re left to sit in silence. There’s only one word to describe it: awkward.(我们都知道当谈话结束,你只能沉默地坐着是什么感觉。只能用一个词来形容:尴尬)”描述谈话陷入沉默时尴尬的场景,后文“Read on to learn how to start small talks and deal with awkward silences.(继续往下读,学习如何开始闲聊,如何应对尴尬的沉默)”表明有方法可以应对尴尬的沉默,因此F项“Thankfully, filling these silences isn’t as difficult as it may seem(值得庆幸的是,填补这些沉默并不像看起来那么困难)”符合语境,承上启下,其中silences在前后文都有同词复现。故选F。
前文“Before attending a social event, think of a few “go-to” topics to jumpstart a dead conversation. (在参加社交活动之前,想几个“热门”话题来推动一场死气沉沉的谈话)”建议提前想好谈话的话题,因此G项“This will help you to fill the silences instead of struggling for words in the moment(这将帮助你填补沉默,而不是在那一刻挣扎着说什么)”符合语境,解释这样做的好处,承接前文,其中的This指代前文中的think of a few “go-to” topics。故选G。
根据后文“Ask questions that have more than one possible answer. Such questions are likely to get the person talking more. They help avoid resulting in short response. For example, instead of asking, “Did you like your high school?”, you could ask, “What did you like about your high school?”(问有多个可能答案的问题。这样的问题可能会让对方说得更多。它们有助于避免导致简短的反应。例如,不要问“你喜欢你的高中吗?”,你可以问“你喜欢高中的什么?”)”可知,本段主要建议用有多个可能答案的问题进行提问,空处是段落标题,应该与此相关,且需和其他段落标题一样使用祈使句的形式,因此A项“Ask open-ended questions (问开放式问题)”符合语境,契合领段落内容。故选A。
本段标题“Listen carefully and respond to their reactions.(仔细倾听并回应他们的反应)”表明本段主要与倾听和回应相关,因此D项“As with any good conversation, the biggest key is to listen(和任何好的谈话一样,最关键的是倾听)”符合语境,强调倾听的重要性,呼应标题,其中的listen在标题中有同词复现。故选D。
前文“For example, you could say, “I really like your shirt. Where did you get it?” This could move the conversation in another direction while making the other person feel good.(例如,你可以说,“我真的很喜欢你的衬衫。你在哪里买的?”这可以将谈话引向另一个方向,同时让对方感觉良好)”举例说明如何赞扬对方,以维持对话,因此E项“Stick to saying nice things if you’re trying to make small talks(如果你想和别人闲聊,那就说些好听的话)”符合语境,总结性地指出应该说好听的话,承接前文。故选E。

C
30. What do the retired couple think of the 3D-printed house?
A. Environmentally-friendly but unsafe. B. Expensive but well-designed.
C. Cheap and common. D. Pretty and secure.
31. Where can the text be found?
A. In a history book. B. In a novel.
C. In an art magazine. D. In a newspaper.
D
Life on this planet, in all its wide diversity, is disappearing more quickly now than it was at any time in human history, and about 1 million species of plants and animals face extinction, a new research from the IPBES, an organization of the United Nations, has found.
The IPBES published a full report about the new research. The future for the species that we share the planet with — and on which we depend — is dire, according to the report.
35 Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. A Rapid Decline in Biodiversity B. Humans’ Efforts to Save Nature
C. Experts’ Opinions on the IPBES Report D. A Slow Response to Protecting the Biodiversity
