Ewaste is fast becoming a serious problem around the world. We live in a society that is producing and using electronic 1.__products__(产品)all the time. It is often cheaper to buy new ones than to repair old ones. The old ones end up as 2.__rubbish__(垃圾) at last. According to a 3.__survey__(调查), in the EU alone, about 9,000,000 tons of ewaste is produced each year. Sadly, just over 1,000,000 tons is 4.__recycled__(回收利用).
Dealing with so much ewaste each year 5.__costs__(花费) a lot. In recent years, however, some electronics are just sent to poor countries such as Ghana. There they are often burnt in 6.__public__(公共的) areas. 7.__Plastic__(塑料) is burnt outdoors and chemical water is poured into rivers, which is very 8.__harmful__(有害的) to people's health. It's time to give standard 9.__instructions__(指示) on how to handle them. Setting up recycling centers is a good way.Another way is to make producers responsible for their used products. As for us, we should try to cut down on ewaste. Nothing is a waste if you have a little 10.__creativity__(创造力).Do remember, every contribution, however small, can help to make a difference.
二、语法填空
I still remember when I started collecting litter. It was when I got tired of seeing litter nearby and realized that no one else was going 1.__to__pick__(pick) it up.
I live near a forest 2.__in__ Ohio, America. I can walk there in three minutes. I used to love going there to play with my dog. But one day there was 3.__so__ much litter that I became very unhappy. I 4.__decided__(decide) to clean up the forest.
I made my first trip to clean the forest that afternoon. I took 5.__a__ big black rubbish bag with me. Ten minutes 6.__after__ I started to pick up litter, my bag was full! There were cans, bottles, broken glass and 7.__newspapers__(newspaper) in it.
From then on, I go to the forest 8.__more__often__(often) to pick up litter than before. I'm usually there for three hours. It makes me feel great to do something for the environment.
After each trip, I look at all the litter that I've found. If it is 9.__recyclable__(recycle), I will keep it. I can't understand why people drop litter. But I will keep picking it up until they stop dropping it. I know I 10.__am__doing__(do) only a small bit to help the Earth, but I still think it is important.

四、阅读理解
A[2023·衢州中考]
Tom always lived for grades. He was always interested in books and ideas. Why should he care about people? They only made fun of him. They were jealous(妒忌的) because he was so smart, or so he thought. It seemed that Tom knew everything—except one thing. He didn't know how to get along with other people.
He made his parents believe that school was a waste of time, so he began home schooling with special teachers. He dreamed of being the youngest person to enter university, and he sent letters to famous professors to see if it was possible.
One day, the doorbell rang. When Tom opened the door, there was his idol—Professor Rosen. Tom was so excited that he could hardly speak. The two talked for a long time, exchanging ideas. The professor was surprised at what this young boy knew. “Tom, tell me about your friends. What do you do for fun?” the professor wanted to know.
There was silence as Tom realized that he didn't really have any friends. “Well, I don't have time for all that. I'm too busy with my studies,” he said.
“That's a problem, Tom. You have to learn that the world is not just filled with ideas. It's filled with people. And you have to remember to be what you are ... a boy. Boys need to have fun.”
The professor talked a bit more and then said, “I have to go, but I have a test for you. In this box, there are three things. I want you to learn how to use them. It is not very simple and you'll need another person to help you. Experiment and learn how to use them, and I'll be back in a week to see how you're doing. Then, I'll have another test for you.”
The professor left and Tom opened the box. Inside were two baseball gloves and a ball. He tried on a glove and picked up the ball, looking at the other glove with a bright smile ...

Cyclists(骑自行车的人) need to be more careful than other road users, as it's much easier for you to get hurt. Here are some suggestions on how to keep safe.
●Don't use your mobile phone while cycling. This is because you need to look out for the road and other traffic.
●You should always wear a helmet as this can reduce the risk of getting hurt on the head in an accident.
●Do not change your direction suddenly. Show drivers what you plan to do in plenty of time. Always look carefully before you start, stop or turn. Let drivers know you have seen them.
●Is your bike checked from time to time? If not, why not? Brakes must work well in all conditions: dry and wet. Are the tyres in good condition to make sure of the safety of your trip?
Traffic laws apply(适用) to you as a cyclist, as well as other road users. Cyclists must obey traffic laws. It is against the law for you to do the following things.
● Jump red lights, including lights at pedestrian (行人) crossings, unless there's a sign showing that cyclists are allowed to do this.
●Ride across pedestrian crossings, unless you are allowed to.
●Cycle the wrong way up a oneway street, unless there's a sign showing that cyclists can do so.
