My daughter recently expressed interest in riding more. We live in a small city, and bicycles are a popular transportation choice here. I was excited at her choice. She would soon learn how easy it is to get around in this way, and how fast she can ride on two wheels. Bike tours are often quicker than bus or cab or car trips are.
Much to my surprise, none of this mattered to her. On one of our first trips together, I was fixing on the route ahead- turns, arrival time- when she said, “Hey Dad, wanna know a riddle?”
And then, before I explained how unsuitable this was, how we shouldn’t be telling jokes while riding, and how we should be focused on the road, on reaching our destination as soon as we could, she started, “What lasts forever but never dies?”
This is how it’s been. She has shared stories from the past, hopes for the future. I have been challenged to ride backward and to stretch legs out on both sides.
None of these have been dangerous, mind you. My daughter does not ride without proper care. She pulls even with me, for instance only on wide, empty streets. When the car appears, she quietly slips behind me and holds both eyes to the road. As soon as conditions of basic safety are met, though...
“Dad, slow down! Isn’t this a lovely neighborhood?” my daughter asks.
It is a lovely neighborhood. I’m surprised, I’ve come this way countless times, but never have I noticed any of this. Farther down the road, the laughter of children comes out from a game of ball.
I make a promise. From now on, I’m going to move more slowly on these rides. I’m going to notice the neighborhoods we move through. I’m going to enjoy this.
4.The writer had thought that riding would help her daughter ________.
A.go somewhere conveniently
B.have more bike excursions alone
C.do some tricks on the bike
D.learn the importance of time in traveling
5.According to the text, the writer’s daughter ________.
A.ignored the traffic while riding
B.had a good sense of safety
C.kept talking without looking ahead
D.enjoyed challenging any danger on the road
6.While looking at the neighborhood, the writer realized ________.
A.how easily his daughter was distracted
B.what a good neighborhood looked like
C.what he missed in the course of riding
D.why a neighborhood needed a garden
7.What promise did the writer make?
A.To be conscious of time in riding.
B.To take his daughter to ride more often.
C.To focus his attention on the destination.
D.To ride slowly to enjoy the beauty along the road.

You do not need to stop creating because you’ve gotten older. Creativity customers as young as 40 have asked me. “Am I too old to create?” I encourage them to imagine what it might be like to reach their 80s after decades of devotion to their chosen art form. How skilled and confident might they be? The following tips will help you say a “yes” to your creativity, even as you accept the realities of aging.
Build your group of like-minded souls, which encourages you and, gives you honest and helpful feedback. Take charge of your health. If you have physical issues, consider them, but continue to create. Change the length and frequency of your work, or move from one art from to another-whatever makes sense for your changing circumstances. Ask yourself why you create. Is it because it fills you with joy and gives you purpose? Really, creating regularly can embed (嵌入) the habit of creating right down into your bones. No period of daily time is too short to stay conn cc ted with your creativity. Keep your current and future projects in your thoughts all day, like background music, which keeps them alive! It also keeps you enthusiastic and brings you back to your creativity after a forced interruption. Finally, don’t lose yourself in comparisons with other artists. You’re on your own path, and it is like no one else’s.
In his 80s, Nova Scotia visual artist Charles Coupar completed 15 pastel still lifes (粉彩静物画) for a personal exhibition and s pet over an hour on his opening night chatting with fans and new admirers. American poet, novelist and journal writer May Sarton continued to write into her 80s. She retained her independence and devotion to creativity until the end, even dictating her journal into a tape recorder after suffering a serious disease Countless other art its, poets, musicians and performers can inspire you to continue taking creative-risks and to build your life’s work.

Parents can begin good organization habits with preschool-age children, said Elana Spira, Ph. D., co-author of The Organized Child. She recommends asking them to do small, simple actions on a regular basis. Maybe they bring their lunch bag to the kitchen, or put their shoes in a closet. These won’t save parents tons of time, but they will help develop good habits. Doing small chores at a young age helps children exercise discipline and attention, which they’ll need later on.
When kids enter elementary school, they’re ready for more responsibility. This is the time to teach them about daily routines, and help them take control over theirs. Parent and child might sit down together and make a list of everything that needs to be done. Together, they should figure out how long each activity takes, and when the best time to do them is. It’s also wise to create a firm schedule for different tasks. Figure it out all before, and stick to the schedule as much as possible. Also, make sure the rooms in which these tasks take place are equipped with easy-to-read clocks. Time management is an important part of learning organization, but it can’t be done if kids don’t know what time it is.
All this planning ahead is important to start in the single-digit years, but it works for teens, too. As children get older and their schedules get busier, they need their parents’ help identifying priorities and understanding what it takes to make it all work. The goal is to help them figure out what will work for them — and then help them stick with it.
Calendars are also essential for helping families stay organized. Julie Morgenstern, organizing and productivity expert, suggests keeping a family calendar-paper or electronic-and maintaining it regularly. Each family member should have a colour dedicated to their activities, so it’s easy to see who is doing what, when. “You can’t expect people to look at the calendar on their own. You should have a family get-together every day to look at it as part of your routine, and look at three days ahead,” Morgenstern said. “It’s better to find any problems (in the schedule) days before.”
Organization gives children the chance to work on executive functioning, or the skills that make it possible to focus on a task and complete it. These skills include inhibition(自制力); emotional control; task initiation; and time management. The lessons learned from managing their own calendars will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Overall, children tend to be more motivated to learn organization skills if they see organization as a “challenge to overcome, rather than faults to repair,” Spira said.
12.What suggestions does Spira make for preschool-age kids?
A.Practising discipline and attention exercises. B.Doing small chores regularly.
C.Learning about daily routines. D.Planning for daily activities-to-do.
13.According to the passage, what does “identifying priorities” in paragraph 3 most probably mean?
A.working out what should be done first as far as importance is concerned
B.not missing out on some golden opportunities in their life
C.weighing up the pros and cons of a dilemma
D.skipping those unnecessary and unimportant in their studies
14.Which of the following may Julie Morgenstern disagree with?
A.A calendar plays an important role in helping a family keep organized.
B.Each of the family members should add their own coloured activities when updating a calendar.
C.The family should get together daily and plan 3 days ahead to find possible problems.
D.It is every family member’s duty to have a clear picture of the whole family members’ routine.
15.Which of the following is the most suitable for the title of the passage?
A.Cultivating a Promising Child B.Kid Behaviour-training Organizations
C.Getting Your Kids Organized D.Skills Needed for a Whole Life

I swallowed (吞咽) the rest of my words. Did I really need to explain what a MP3 was? Surely everybody knew!
At first there was no response from my parents. But my little brother replied eagerly, “Me too!”
Then finally my dad spoke, “What! What is it for? This little stuff breaks down soon after you get it! It’s an absolutely useless expense (花费) …”
Then, I had an idea. When the summer vacation came, I lied to my parents that I couldn’t stay at home, because the school had supplementary (附加的) programs. As a result, I earned my money for a new MP3 through my part-time job.
I was at home the night before my new school when Mom came into my room. She sat on my bed, and patted me on the shoulder. Then she handed me a small box. “Take this. Don’t tell your father ... Now, study hard, okay?” she said softly.
“Mom, how did you ... ?” I asked.
“It’s from my own savings. Your father doesn’t know.” I sat alone for a long time with my new MP3, weeping (哭泣) silently.
When I went back to school, I decided to give up my part-time job so that I could study harder for my parents, for my dream. My motivation (动机) to study has never been so strong.

47.One afternoon, I was in my dorm when a classmate told me that my father was waiting for me downstairs. I rushed out of the door, ran downstairs anxiously, and saw my father standing there. At the sight of me, he managed an embarrassed smile and handed me a box, saying, “Son, I bought this for you since I overheard that it’s an efficient device for study. You will treasure it and use it for a good purpose, won’t you? …” Swallowing the rest words, he just turned around and left for work hurriedly. Seeing him off, I dragged my legs to my dorm with the small box in hand.
I sat down and unwrapped the box. Gasping in astonishment, I found a totally brand new MP3 inside. It was neatly packed and the price tag was still attached. I gazed at it for a while, tears in eyes. The tired faces and weathered hands of my parents appeared before my eyes. How could I repay them? After putting the MP3 away carefully, I headed for the classroom determinedly. I knew no matter what challenges I met, my parents would always be there for me with their deep love and wholehearted support. I also knew the progress I made in my study was the best present for them.
