02 Period II Discovering Useful Structures—Reading for Writing Part Ⅱ 拓展阅读训练 1 A [河北保定名校2024高一期中联考] High school, for most teenagers, is a space where new adventures and challenges begin. I clearly remember my first day of high school. As I entered the school gate, I was greeted by a crowd of students. The hallways were filled with talking and laughter. It was a lot to handle, and I felt like a tiny fish in a vast ocean. I held my schedule tightly, trying to find the right classroom. My heart raced as I was scared of getting lost. My first class was English, and as I walked in, I spotted familiar faces from my previous school. I breathed a sigh of relief as I took my seat, surrounded by friendly smiles. My English teacher, Mrs Johnson, introduced herself and made everyone feel comfortable. She explained what we would be studying during the semester and encouraged us to share our thoughts and ideas. The next class was mathematics, which happened to be my weakest subject. I felt a tight feeling in my stomach as I entered the classroom, but my maths teacher, Mr Smith, turned out to be very patient. He promised us that we would learn and improve together. His words of support made me feel more relaxed, and I began to believe that I could overcome my maths struggles. 刷阅读理解 2 During lunchtime, I sat with a group of students who quickly became my friends. We shared stories, and talked about our expectations for high school. It was during this time that I realised that high school wasn’t just about academic (学术性的) subjects; it was also about building friendships and making lasting memories. The rest of the day flew by with a variety of classes, faces, and experiences. My first day of high school was filled with moments of anxiety, joy, and the promise of new beginnings. 刷阅读理解 3 【语篇导读】本文是一篇记叙文。作者回忆了自己进入高中的第一天的情景。 1.Why did the author feel like a tiny fish in a vast ocean at first?( ) C A.Because of excitement and curiosity. I was the kid who got yelled (吼叫) at for trying to bring home sixty books secretly at a time because I just couldn’t decide which world I wanted to experience that week. I remember spending my weekends glued to a book, hungering for experiencing lives other than my own. Up until middle school, reading was a passion (酷爱) of mine. Something changed after I entered senior high school though. All of a sudden, reading was a task that I could not escape fast enough. The books that I read in school bored me, or even if I enjoyed the books themselves, the challenging homework I completed based on those books made me hate reading as a whole. It actually wasn’t until recently that I rediscovered my love for reading. How, you may ask? Audiobooks (有声书). Last summer, I spent every morning taking long walks while listening to them, and I would find myself lost in the stories for hours. And now I’m rediscovering my passion for reading. I feel that pull again. That curiosity. 刷阅读理解 9 My love story with reading may have had a happy ending, but not everyone is as lucky as me. What went wrong? What will happen is that students lose their love for reading because of the way many schools try to encourage children to read. For example, when a child is told to read for twenty minutes every night, they will read for the required amount of time and then check the task off on their list. In this way, reading has suddenly become a boring task instead of an exciting experience. Making sure that kids keep their passion for reading will require us to rethink how we teach reading in schools and how we introduce books to children outside of school as well. There needs to be less of a focus on meeting reading requirements and more of a focus on creating an environment in which students are actually excited to read. 1.Which word best describes the author’s love for books before high school?( ) B A.Confusing.
