Dear Mr Expert,
I grew up in an unhappy and abusive home. I always promised myself that I’d get out as soon as possible.
Now, at age 20, I have a good job and a nice house, and I’m really proud of the independence I’ve achieved.
Here’s the problem: several of my friends who still live with their parents wish they had places like mine so much so that they make mine theirs.
It started out with a couple of them spending the weekends with me. But now they seem to take it for granted (认为理所当然) that they can show up any time they like. They bring boyfriends over, talk on the phone and stay out forever.
I enjoy having my friends here sometimes it makes the place feel comfortable and warm but this is my home, not a party house. I am old enough to move out on my own, so why can’t I seem to ask my friends to respect my privacy (隐私)?
Joan
Dear Joan,
If your family didn’t pay attention to your needs when you were a child, you probably have trouble letting others know your needs now.
And if you’ve gathered your friends around you to rebuild a happy family atmosphere, you may fear that saying no will bring back the kind of conflict you grew up with or destroy the nice atmosphere you now enjoy. You need to understand that in true friendship it’s okay to put your own needs first from time to time.
Be clear about the message you want to send. For example, “I really love your company but I also need some privacy. So please call before you come over.”

A few even visit Websites they should not look at. Bad things can happen if young people spend too much time on the Internet.
In order to help young people use the Internet in a good way, a textbook on good Internet behavior has started to be used in some Shanghai middle schools this term. It uses real examples to teach students all about good ways of using the Internet. Some students also make online friends. But if you are meeting a friend offline, let your parents know.

Most children are now working longer hours than their parents with some slaving for over 46 hours a week, according to a new survey.
The research shows that parents are creating crazy schedules for their children with after school activities in addition to school tasks. This means children are actually working harder than the average parents who only work for 37.5 hours a week.
The average child already completes 30 hours and 50 minutes a week at school from Monday to Friday, as well as 7 hours and 51 minutes of clubs and homework. Actively reading with parents daily takes a further 5 hours and 49 minutes a week. The Center Parcs study of 2,000 parents also found the average child also helps with housework for up to an hour and 37 minutes each week.
Colin Whaley, marketing director from Center Parcs, said, “We made this report to further understand family life and what challenges parents and children are facing and overcoming, so we can always make sure we’re offering what they need. What has undoubtedly come out of this is the need for families—parents and children alike—to take time out to relax.”
In response to the findings, Center Parcs let child psychologist(心理学家) Dr Sam Wass develop a Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for free time which needs 3 hours and 51 minutes every day. The RDA provides a variety of free-time activities, which will allow children to use their imagination and develop creative thinking. The RDA really creates the best environment to relax and the best short break possible for children.
22.According to the survey, what problem are most children faced with?

七、读后续写
57.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I could hear one of my classmates expressing her impatience with my slow crawl up the ladder (梯子),“If she’s afraid of heights, why would she sign up for a Bungee Jumping (蹦极) class?” My friend was at the top of the ladder, trying to cheer me up. How did I wind up on a ladder hanging above the Hudson River?
It was my friend who invited me to the Bungee Jumping class. At first, I was doubtful, but her enthusiasm and guarantees of strict safety procedures won me over.
I had been fearful of heights since primary school. Avoiding my fear of heights became second nature. I tried not to look down at balconies or staircases. I avoided traveling by plane as much as possible. I declined invitations from friends to join them on roller coasters (过山车).
But here I was, at age twenty-six, facing my fear of heights in a rather extreme way. I had come around to the idea of trying Bungee Jumping. I figured it wasn’t much different from swinging on the monkey bars as a kid. The one obstacle I didn’t expect was the ladder. In order to reach the Bungee Jumping, I had to climb up a twenty-two-foot ladder.
My friend’s distraction techniques helped to take my mind off my dangerous task. I found a rhythm and kept going. With a slow and steady (稳定的) pace, I made it to the top.
An instructor tied me to a safety belt and told me to step to the edge of the platform. I held the Bungee Jumping bar with sweaty hands, surprised that it was too thick to fix my hand around. Instead of a firm grasp, my hands were in a weak, bear-claw position.
The cheers from my classmates rang out below. An instructor reminded me of the safety rules, including the net below that would catch me at the bottom. He reminded me to listen to the directions while in the air, so I could perform well.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I stood face to face with my fear of heights.

I stood face-to-face with my fear of heights. The realization that this was something I would have to do alone not only gave me some discomfort, but also a bit of pride. If I made it through the class, I would finish something in the face of my fear. As the instructor counted down, I took a deep breath and was pushed off the platform. The air rushed into my lungs. I lost awareness of time and space and let the force of the Bungee Jumping swing me up and down. I dropped onto the net tremblingly and began walking with my shaky legs. Finally, I made it!
My second round of Bungee Jumping went a bit more smoothly. My hands and legs didn’t shake anymore. Even at the moment of jumping off the platform, my eyes were open and I saw the water coming towards me directly. An inexperienced thrill filled my whole body immediately. While my fear of heights was still with me, this experience opened up a new way of seeing myself and approaching challenges. I became more open to trying new things. I’m more capable than my fears let me believe I am.
