02 Lesson 2 Understanding and Coping with Stress Part Ⅱ 拓展阅读训练 1 A [山东临沂2024高一期中] Year-12 student Noah Little has already sat his first Chinese-speaking exam and said it was “the easiest exam I’ve ever done”. That view is not surprising given that the Wagga Wagga High School student loves language—so much that he has built a Chinese translation app. Noah said his love of language was encouraged by his community. “Wagga Wagga is a place full of people from different cultures, and sometimes when I meet new people who have trouble speaking English, I like to talk to them in their own language,” he said. “I also have a few Chinese friends so I think it will be cool to talk to them in their language.” The 17-year-old started teaching himself Chinese around five years ago, before taking distance education courses at the start of Year 11. His language ability was also useful in his part-time job at a local Chinese restaurant, where he translated orders for the cooks and customers. 2 Noah said he also had a basic knowledge of seven other languages. It was while teaching himself the languages that Noah got the idea of the translation tool. “I decided to make my own app because there weren’t many around—all the other apps were full of advertisements (广告) and the translation feature (专题节目) wasn’t powerful enough,” he said. His app also includes a word of the day feature, lessons on how to write Chinese characters (汉字) and a news feed of important Chinese news. He said learning computer programming to build the app had been like studying another language. With the end of school around the corner, Noah said he would like to pursue (追求) both his interest in computer programming and languages. “I’m planning to work for a year and save so I can go on to university as I really want to make a career (事业) out of one of these two topics.” 1.What do we know about Noah?( ) D A.He began to learn Chinese at 11. C.Develop a new app. D.Learn more languages. 根据最后一段中的“I’m planning to work for a year and save so I can go on to university as I really want to make a career out of one of these two topics.” 故选A项。 6 4.Which of the following can best describe Noah?( ) A A.Curious and creative. B.Humorous and honest. C.Courageous and caring. D.Outgoing and outspoken. 故选A项。 喂养;养活 生义:n.(博客、新闻网站、社交网站等的)信息推送,信息订阅功能 刷阅读理解 8 B [陕西汉中2024高一期中] When we’re in trouble, we always turn to our parents for help. But would you like them to hear the conversations you have with your friends in the school playground or in the lunch queue? Social networking sites have become extensions (延伸) of the school hallways, so would you add your parents as “friends” and allow them to view your online activities and conversations with friends? In the past the generation gap included a technology gap, where children were up to date with the latest technology and parents were left behind, content to continue their day-to-day lives as they always had because they had no need to know more about technology. However, more and more parents are beginning to realise just how important social networks are in their lives. This realisation has given many parents the motivation (动机) to educate themselves about social networking sites. 9 These days many people are attracted to social networking sites because they can choose who they have around them. There’s also a certain amount of control over privacy (隐私) that we don’t get in real life. Sometimes we feel that privacy is violated (违背) when we must accept a “friend” request from a parent or family member. It’s a difficult choice whether or not to allow a parent to become a part of our online lives. On the one hand we don’t want to “refuse” their request because that might hurt their feelings or make them feel we have something to hide. On the other hand if we do accept, then we could have a sense of being watched and no longer feel free to comment or communicate the way we did before. 10 A recent survey suggested that parents shouldn’t take it personally if their children overlook (忽略) their requests. When a teenager overlooks a parent’s friend request, it doesn’t necessarily mean that he is hiding something, but it could mean that this is one part of his life where he wants to be independent. Perhaps talking with parents and explaining would help soften the blow if you do choose not to add them to your friend list. 1.What can we learn from paragraph 2?( ) A A.Parents have realised the importance of social networks. B.Parents feel secure about their privacy online. C.Social networks successfully fill the generation gap. D.Social networks offer a chance for parents to communicate. However, more and more parents are beginning to realise just how important social networks are in their lives. 故选A项。 12 2.What may be the reason for teenagers to refuse a parent’s friend request?( ) C A.Their parents make negative comments on them. B.They hide something from their parents. C.They are unwilling to be watched by parents. D.Their parents tend to fall behind in technology. On the other hand if we do accept, then we could have a sense of being watched and no longer feel free to comment or communicate the way we did before. 13 3.What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 4 refer to?( ) D A.Online life. B.The difficult choice. C.Parents’ request. D.Teenagers’ refusal. On the one hand we don’t want to “refuse” their request和下文might hurt their feelings or make them feel we have something to hide 可推知,能让父母觉得感情被伤害,或孩子有所隐瞒的,应该是孩子拒绝他们的好友请求,因此that指代上文提到的拒绝父母的好友请求。 14 4.What is the passage mainly about?( ) B A.Privacy online. B.Parents’ friend requests. C.The generation gap. D.Social networks. 分歧;隔阂;差距;缺口 3.be attracted to 被……吸引 刷阅读理解 16 [安徽安庆一中2024高一期中] The piano, ever since its creation, has had a great impact on the world of music.
