第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Nowadays, more and more emphasis is being placed on a building’s “green” certification. On Earth Day, look through four noteworthy green buildings from around the world.
One Central Park (Sydney, Australia)
A park at the foot of the building literally continues up the structure, as vegetation of 250 species of Australian plants and flowers cover One Central Park. An architectural website says it has 25% less energy consumption compared with a conventional building of its size.
Shanghai Tower (Shanghai, China)
Shanghai Tower has a transparent second skin wrapped around the building which creates a zone of captured air that serves as natural ventilation (通风), reducing energy costs. Besides, 270 wind devices incorporated into the right side power its outside lights.
Marco Polo Tower (Hamburg, Germany)
Each floor of Marco Polo Tower is turned a few degrees away from the one below, around an axis (轴线). This allows for recessed (嵌入式) buildings that protect residents from direct sun. This tower also includes many other green features. There is a heat exchanger on the roof that turns warm air into a cooling system. And the natural ventilation can make residents sleep soundly without being disrupted by outside noise.
Torre Reforma (Mexico City, Mexico)
Torre Reforma rises to 807 feet and stands tall on energy-saving measures, too. The tower’s slimness maximizes the amount of natural light let in, which in turn cuts down on the need for electric lights. And when the weather permits, controls can automatically open windows to let air in.
1. What do we know about One Central Park?
A. It makes full use of solar energy.
B. It uses a great cooling system.
C. It has many plants and flowers.
D. It has self-control windows.
2. What do the Shanghai Tower and Marco Polo Tower have in common?
A. They are naturally ventilated.
B. They are both transparent.
C. They generate electricity by wind.
D. They harvest energy from sunshine.
3. Where can the text be found?
A. In science fiction. B. In an architectural magazine.
C. In an autobiography. D. In a weather report.
B
My son asked my husband and me several months ago if he could switch from his mainstream high school to an alternative education environment. At that time, I was unsure and a little heartbroken.
He wasn’t doing well in that school. In my head, I knew the best thing for him was to switch to another learning environment to complete his high school year. But my heart broke a little that he would not walk the same graduation field and stage that I had walked. The scenario I had created was no longer beneficial to his well-being.
My son is extremely shy and has always had a small friend group. Large groups are complex for him, and he was very upset at a school with over 2,500 kids as a child with social anxiety. A school of that size can be difficult for anyone, let alone an introvert (内向的人) with social anxiety.
We discovered that the continuation school was an option with the same general curriculum required by our state to graduate high school. The credits he had already earned would carry over, and he could graduate early. After talking, we decided that this was his best option.
By allowing him to choose this option, we have watched him thrive! The difference is astonishing. My son made friends; he was productive and participated in a life skills course to help himself with real-life studies. He got along well with his teachers and classmates.
The most significant change we saw was that he would come home smiling and happy, enthusiastic about his day. He was excited to share what he was learning and how his day had gone, which warmed my heart.
As his momma, this is all I needed — knowing that letting him choose what was suitable for his educational path was the right move.
4. How did the author feel on her son’s request at first?
A. Proud. B. Puzzled. C. Disappointed. D. Embarrassed.
5. What was the problem of the author’s son?
A. He had no friends.
B. He didn’t really like learning.
C. He was the slowest student in his class.
D. He was poor at communicating with others.
6. What did the family realize after learning about the continuation school?
A. It was a very satisfying option for them.
B. A mainstream high school was much better.
C. An alternative education was not advisable.
D. The son might have difficulty in graduating.
7. The underlined word “scenario” could be best replaced by _____.
A. plot B. history C. novel D. rule
C
For many Americans, home is where the heart is. However, some people are forced to leave their homes because of rising costs.
“Hawaii is everything. Of course, it’s very beautiful. The weather is beautiful, but you only get a deeper connection to a place when it’s connected to you,” said Lehua Kalima, who grew up and raised her kids in Hawaii.
Nearly three years ago, Kalima and her husband left the Hawaiian islands for Clark County, Nevada. According to United Van Lines, the US’s largest household goods mover, Clark County has about 20,000 native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. The Kalimas represent some of the 7 million Americans who move to a different state every year.
“You know, we were already working really hard to make ends meet, but with three college tuitions now to pay, it was almost impossible,” Kalima said.
United Van Lines has long tracked state-to-state migration, as well as the main reasons that people move. In 2018, nearly half of the people surveyed said they moved due to changes in employment. Four years later, a third of respondents said employment was the reason they moved. A rising number said they wanted to be close to family, and 8% stated a reason that three years earlier wasn’t even on the survey — the improved cost of living.
“If you have roots in a place, you have a relationship with a place, with a piece of land, only then can you really understand what it’s like to have to go away from it,” Kalima said.
Despite missing her home, Kalima looks at the other side of things.
“The things we do in life don’t necessarily keep us in one place. Sometimes they take us to all kinds of different places but that’s necessary because, you know, that’ll take us to where we’re eventually supposed to be,”Kalima said.
8. What was the Kalimas’ life like before moving to Nevada?
A. They almost had nowhere to live.
B. They lived beyond their means.
C. Kalima and her husband lost their jobs.
D. Kalima’s children failed to get into college.
9. How does the writer illustrate the reasons for people moving to other states?
A. By contrast. B. By connection. C. By examples. D. By diagrams.
10. What feeling did Kalima express in paragraph 6?
A. Her worries about her life in Nevada.
B. Her pain of being away from home.
C. Her fear of being misunderstood by others.
D. Her dissatisfaction with new social relationships.
11. What is Kalima’s attitude to life?
A Doubtful. B. Passive. C. Grateful. D. Positive.
D
While stress is an unavoidable aspect of life, studies continue to show too much stress can have a bad impact on both health and well-being. More specifically, excess stress can lead to high blood pressure, increasing heart disease risk. With all that in mind, researchers from the Universities of Maynooth and Limerick set out to better understand how reactions to stressful events impact our future health, as well as if there are any factors that can play key stress-buffering (缓解压力) roles.
The research team suggests that previous research has shown that gratitude and affect-balance (balance of positive to negative emotions) play key stress-buffering roles. However, up until now there have been few studies examining the impact of these variables on cardiovascular (心血管) recovery from severe psychological stress. Researchers chose to focus on this consideration, as well as whether or not affect-balance moderates the relationship between gratitude and cardiovascular reactions to severe psychological stress.
The actual research portion of this project took place at Maynooth University and involved a total of 68 undergrad students (24 men, 44 women) between the ages of 18 and 57. The experiment featured lab tasks which caused stress among the participants, while researchers measured cardiovascular reactivity and recovery in response to the stress.
The ensuing results reveal that a state of gratitude predicts lower systolic (收缩的) blood pressure responses throughout the stress-testing period. This means, researchers say, that gratitude promotes a unique stress-buffering effect on both reactions to and recovery from severe psychological stress. The team also found that affect-balance increases the effects of grateful feelings.
In conclusion, researchers believe these findings hold clinical (临床的) usefulness. There are many low-cost ways to develop grateful feelings that can help promote improved well-being. For instance, one earlier study found cardiac patients who make use of gratitude journals have better cardiovascular outcomes than those who do not. Those earlier projects, in combination with these latest findings, strongly suggest that gratitude is a useful tool in the fight against stress and poor cardiovascular health.
12. What may high blood pressure result in according to paragraph 1?
A. A headache. B. A sleep disorder.
C. Heart disease. D. Difficult breathing.
13. How might the participants feel about the lab tasks?
A. Moved. B. Thankful. C. Disappointed. D. Anxious.
14. Why does the author give the example in the last paragraph?
A. To show gratitude is easy to practice.
B. To suggest we should learn more ways to relieve stress.
C. To explain why the findings are meaningful.
D. To show hospitals should use more treatment ways.
15. What can be the best title for the text?
A. We Should Deal with Stress Wisely
B. We Should Realize the Harm of Excess Stress
C. Excess Stress Can Cause High Blood Pressure
D. Gratitude Can Help Relieve Stress to Improve Heart Health

Our school’s “Help Others” event was drawing near, and our team had been assigned (分配) the task of organizing a fundraising campaign (筹款活动). We had a week to plan and carry out our strategy, and everyone wanted to play a meaningful part.
On the first day of our planning week, our team leader, Emily, brought us together to discuss our roles. She assigned different tasks to each team member based on our strengths and interests. I was assigned the role of connecting with local businesses for fundraising, a task I felt confident in completing.
As the week progressed, we worked tirelessly.
One afternoon, while we were creating promotional (宣传的) materials, Jacob, one of our teammates, came to us with a tired look on his face. He explained that he had been feeling unwell for the past few days and was worried about falling behind on his tasks.
Worried about Jacob’s well-being, we encouraged him to take some time off and rest and told him that we would support him in any way we could. Jacob finally agreed, understanding that he needed to take care of himself.
With Jacob absent, we realized that his tasks, including creating promotional materials, were left unfinished. We knew that if we didn’t step in to help, our campaign would fail. To solve this problem, we came together as a team and thought of ways to support Jacob and keep our campaign on track.
Sarah, with her artistic skills, volunteered to take over the design of the promotional materials, while Mark offered to help with the content creation. Emily, our team leader, stepped in to manage the whole team, making sure that everything stayed organized and on schedule. We tried our best to make our campaign successful.

The room was filled with creativity and love, Sarah worked on the design, while Mark and I worked together to create interesting messages to attract our audience. As the hours passed, we shared stories, laughed, and supported each other through the creative work. The late–night tiredness was outweighed by the friendship we felt as a team, joined by our shared goals of making a difference and helping Jacob.
The following day, when Jacob returned to our team, he was surprised at the progress we had made in his absence. Jacob’s eyes welled up with emotion as he realized how much we had done for him. With renewed energy, we continued working together, putting the finishing touches on our campaign. On the day of the event, our team stood side by side, enjoying the fruits of our great efforts. The fundraising went beyond our expectations, allowing us to make a great difference to the cause we cared about deeply. Looking back on our journey, we realized that the strength of a team lies not only in individual ability but also in the readiness to support and help one another.
