Passage 1
(2023-2024学年高一下·河南开封·期中)Nola Ochs was born in Kansas in 1911. There were many farms and everybody had a job to do. Nola Ochs was raised under the endless sky, and the long arc(弧线) of the sun marked her chore-filled (满是工作的) days. Her life was common. She grew and married, had children and grandchildren, taught in country schools, and lived the quiet Midwest life. But she was different in one way: After her husband died in 1972, Nola began taking classes and finally earned her associate degree(准学士学位) at the age of 77.
“I still want to go to school. It is fun to go to classes. And if I have homework to do in the evening, that takes up my time in a pleasant way,” she recalled. After some years went by, Nola decided to keep going and get her master’s degree in Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, where her granddaughter studied. She emailed the university for admission (入学), mentioning that she was 80, and had prepared for studying further.

Passage 2
(2023-2024学年高一下·江苏宿迁·期末)Lisa was an eighth grade star and a female lead in my middle school's musical. I was a seventh grade stagehand(舞台管理员) -the only one in an eighth grade production Half a Sixpence. My task was to prepare the scenery for the performance, and race onstage to put and bring back the props when the lights dimmed between scenes. I admired Lisa to this day for a moment that had little to do with the play itself but with an ironing board(熨衣板) .
It was the opening night. The auditorium(礼堂) was filled with families and friends. Most of the school was there. Half a Sixpence centers on Arthur Kipps, a draper's assistant who unexpectedly receives a fortune from his father. Ann is his childhood sweetheart, but upper-class Helen falls for him, too-and her mother has designs on Arthur's wealth. Arthur must choose.
The climactic scene takes place when Arthur encounters Ann, played by Lisa. As the scene opens, she stands at an ironing board, ironing.
The lights dimmed before that scene. I rushed onstage to put the ironing board in place for the following performance. There was a problem. “The ironing board won't stay up! It will fall down!” She whispered to me. She had the iron in one hand and was supporting the ironing board with the other. We tried to fix it, but in vain. The lights were coming up-as were the hairs at the back of my neck. I had to go! I rushed down the steps, abandoning her. In seconds, she would have to stop ironing on the board and exclaim in delight, “Oh, Arthur!” and fly across the stage to where he stood. “So glad it's not me up there!” I thought guiltily. Poor Lisa was up there, though, holding the ironing board.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为80词左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Unexpectedly, Lisa performed in a calm and confident manner.

Passage 3
(2023-2024学年高一下·河南周口·阶段练习)There was a student named Lily who studied at high school. She had excellent grades and was considered as one of the top students in her school. However, Lily had a rather irritable(易怒的) personality. Because her parents gave her high pressure that she must keep her top place in her school. her mind was only focused on her grades, leaving little room for anything else.
One day, after receiving a lower grade than she expected on an important test. Lily was falling apart. Sad and overwhelmed, she even started considering her failure was due to her parents. She quarreled with her parents and kept them out of her room.
Lily’s parents turned to the school teacher Mr. Thompson for help. They poured out all the bad present situations to him. Mr. Thompson was a professional teacher with a deep understanding of the importance of a balanced lifestyle. He recognized that it was Lily’s too much worry about grades that was having a bad effect on her and the parent-child relationships.
Mr. Thompson advised Lily’s parents to calm down first. And after school, he approached Lily and gently suggested they go for a run together. At first, Lily refused, saying that it would take her too much time. Besides, she couldn’t understand how running could be beneficial to her academic success.

【答案】
A week later, she got an mail back for her admission. Nola was excited to study further for her dream and with her granddaughter. In the beginning, she met many difficulties because those courses were so complex for her. But she never gave up. She made use of her time to turn to anyone around her for help, including her granddaughter. She overcame all the difficulties to study on her own time, at her own pace. When Nola had 30 hours of school left to complete, she moved 100 miles away from her farm to study. Finally, she got her master’s degree of Fort Hays State University.
On the day of her graduation, Nola was chosen to be a spokesperson. She said what kept her young was her passion for learning everything she could about the world. It was about seeing everyone she met as a teacher. She added, “Age is just a number, as long as you have your mind and health.” Nola lived a long and productive life, but her work was still not done. As the sun bent its great arc across the sky, Nola was at work, plowing the fields of her mind.

Contrary to my assumption, she didn’t take the broken ironing board but simply let go of it, making a loud crash ringing in the auditorium. I marveled at her impressive performance, freeing me from the guilt about the prop. So comic and dramatic was the action that the crowd burst into thunderous applause for the clever way she had tackled the unexpected problems onstage. As Lily continued her daily runs, something remarkable started to happen. Lily’s once imitable personality slowly began to disappear, and she apologized to her parents for her former rudeness. Her grades remained consistently high with a changed lifestyle.
Seeing Lily’s change, Mr. Thompson recommended her to give speech to her classmates.
