1 (2024·中考真题)My family has always had family dinners, as far as I can remember. Since I was a little boy, my mother has insisted (坚持) that we attend family dinners at least once a week. Every Sunday, my mother would prepare a lot of food and bring it to my grandma’s house. We would wait for more family members to come before eating together at the table, my grandma’s dinner table. I used to feel that was a silly little tradition. But now I find it’s fantastic to get together as a family to talk about anything and everything after a long week of school and work. Every time I sit at the dinner table, my grandma’s dinner table, I look around and find so many people who truly love me. It’s a love that feels so good. For me, dinner is not just a meal, but a chance to reconnect with each other. I finally realize the true meaning of this tradition. It’s not about the dinners or activities. It’s about family, a group of people who care about each other. All the memories (记忆) around my grandma’s dinner table will last forever. Now, I’m always expecting Sunday to arrive. 1. How often do the writer’s family members get together for dinner?(不超过5个词) 2. What does dinner mean to the writer?(不超过10个词) 3. Why is “my grandma’s dinner table” mentioned several times in the text?(不超过10个词) 2 (2023·中考真题)阅读下面短文,并用英语回答问题(请注意每小题的词数要求)。 When I was in Grade Three, I watched a video about the findings of ancient ruins(遗迹). It interested me so much that from that moment I knew what I wanted to do with my life. Today, I’m very lucky to work as an archaeologist(考古学家). It’s exciting work. Holding a piece of history is really fantastic. I decided what I wanted to be at the age of nine. But the road wasn’t easy. Along the way I was told many things: I was too young. I wasn’t good enough, I should get married and have kids, ... All these words really got me down, but I chose to follow my heart and move on. I needed money to support my study, so I asked for six grants(经费). The first five replies said no. At the beginning, it hurt. But the next no hurt a little less. Six months later, the last reply came. This time it was yes. Finally, I could go on with my archaeological work. As you can see, so many noes didn’t beat me. Instead, they made me stronger and helped me grow. For anyone thinking of a dream job, I would say:_____________________________ 4. What made the writer want to be an archaeologist?(不超过10个词) 5. How did the writer feel about the road to becoming an archaeologist?(不超过5个词) 6. So, on the next windy day, they took the kite to a park. First, the father taught his son to fly the kite. Soon, the son was flying the kite high in the air. When it couldn’t go higher, the son realized something. “The string (线) is holding the kite down,” he said to himself. “If I cut it, it can fly higher.” The son cut the string. After that, the kite flew up a little more. However, the kite didn’t rise for long. It slowly came down until it landed in a tree far away. The son was surprised. “I thought the kite could fly higher without the string,” he said. “What happened?” “The string wasn’t holding the kite down,” said the father. “It was helping it stay higher. After you cut the string, it didn’t have any support.” Really, rules are like the string that seems to hold us down in our daily life. But, without them, we can’t fly high like the kite. I was worried that someone else would find the treasure before I did. But I really enjoyed the journey back home and forgot the pain of not finding the treasure.” The son continued to tell his father what he noticed on his way back. “Nice things are always there,” the father smiled. “My son, I want you to have a goal. If you don’t have a goal, you won’t set out. But if the goal is the only thing in your mind, you’ll miss something nice and won’t be happy. However, she did not share her reasons with the trees. Fir Tree(杉树) had many tree friends. In summer, they watched Bird and Squirrel(松鼠)play in the field. Then autumn arrived. Fir Tree told Mother Nature that he wanted his leaves to change colours too. “Be patient,” Mother Nature said. “You will learn your purpose.” So Fir Tree waited. The temperature dropped. Bird flew south, and Squirrel was nowhere around. All the trees lost their leaves except Fir Tree. Soon it snowed. So let’s see the story behind the saying. In the Song Dynasty, there was a man named Chen Yaozi, he was very proud of his archery (射箭) skills. One day, when he was shooting arrows in his own garden, an oil seller passed by and watched him for a long time. Chen asked the man, “How about my shoots?” The man didn’t cheer but only made a slight (轻微的) smile. Chen was very angry and said, “Do you know archery well? Isn’t my skill excellent?” The oil seller replied, “That’s nothing, just practice.” As he spoke, he put a bottle on the ground and then put a coin with a hole in the center on it. Then he slowly poured oil into the bottle with a ladle (长柄勺). The oil, like a thin string (线), went straight into the bottle through the hole in the coin without staining (沾染) the coin at all. At last, Ben won the match. Grandpa and Ben’s friends cheered loudly.       Ben found the trophy under the chair. It was there all the time. She takes a break for lunch and a short sleep, then knits into the night. Matsouka knits one scarf a day now. Little Cat quickly put down his fishing rod (钓竿) and tried to catch the dragonfly. However, the dragonfly flew away. Little Cat had to go back and continue fishing. Just as Little Cat picked up his rod, Old Cat caught a big fish. Shortly after, a beautiful butterfly flew over. Little Cat dropped his rod and tried to catch the butterfly, but he failed again. Disappointed, Little Cat returned to the river, only to find that Old Cat had caught another big fish. “It’s so unfair. Why can’t I catch even a little fish?” Little Cat cried. “If you’re fishing, just fish. Be focused. You can’t expect to catch fish while spending your time catching something else,” Old Cat replied. After listening to Old Cat’s words, Little Cat began to fish carefully. The dragonfly and the butterfly flew over again, but Little Cat didn’t give them a look. He held the fishing rod and waited patiently. Soon he caught his first big fish of the day. Now, Little Cat understood what Old Cat had said. Just like fishing, life also requires patience and focus to get what you want. 28. How many big fish did Old Cat catch? (不超过5个词) 29. Why did Little Cat think something was so unfair? (不超过10个词) 30. Then I came up with Inside Flow. In the first five years, we got much rejection (拒绝) from the yoga world. They pay this is not yoga, it’s more like dancing and it’s too modern. But I was satisfied with that, because I knew every time when a change starts, people refuse it at first. I knew for sure that it was going to change the yoga world. The purpose of traditional yoga is to help people become wiser, while Inside Flow just wants to make people happier. We achieve this very down-to-earth goal in every single class. The moment I taught the first class was on May 25, 2008, in Austria. The students enjoyed it so much and gave me so much positive feedback (反馈). I’m traveling more than 200 days a year to teach teachers. But when you ask my son, who’s eight years old, why your father is hardly at home, he says that his dad has a dream, and he’s working really hard for that. As long as you like to move to music, you’re very welcome in Inside Flow. Your movement doesn’t have to be perfect, because it’s not a performance and it’s not for showing others. Remember: you do sports for yourself, no matter how old you are or who you are. 31. How did the writer feel about the rejection he got? (不超过5个词) 32. What is the purpose of Inside Flow? (不超过5个词) 33. I went to many masters but didn’t get any solutions (解决办法) for this.” Swami looked at the man and said, “Do you really want peace in life?” Man replied sadly, “Yes.” Swami smiled and said, “Well, I have a suggestion for you and you have to do it without any thought.” Man agreed. Swami said, “When you find someone is hungry, give him food. If you see someone thirsty, give him water. If you find someone in need of clothes, give him clothes. If you see someone sick, give him medicine. If you see someone troubled, comfort him. By doing these, you will get happiness. It will give you peace. It is the easiest and simplest way to find peace in life.” The man found it strange to do so at first but as promised to Swami, he did all these without any thought. An ant and a bee advised him to find a hole under a stone to live in instead of spending so much time building a house. They said building such a house was a waste of time. The caterpillar shook his head. He knew it’s important for him to build the house and it’s his own way of living. The bee and the ant left then. At last, the caterpillar’s house grew so thick that others could only guess that the caterpillar might still be at work inside. The bee stopped to look at the little house. “Miss Ant, come here,” he said. “I’ve got such a joke to tell you! That caterpillar has finished his house and has forgotten to leave any door.” “That’s too bad,” said the ant. “I’m afraid he will starve to death (饿死).” But the caterpillar did not die. He wasn’t even hungry. He fell asleep fast in his little house. Many days passed, and the caterpillar began to wake. “How strange I feel!” said the caterpillar to himself. “I must have light and air!” One end of the house was very soft, and through this end the caterpillar pushed his way out. He was no caterpillar anymore—he was a beautiful butterfly. The caterpillar trusted himself and followed his own heart all along no matter what others said. So in the end, he turned into a beautiful butterfly. When the ant and the bee came to see him again, the caterpillar said to them happily, “You see, I’m a butterfly now. I’d like to say if we want to achieve our goals, we must remember: ___________” 37. What did the ant and the bee think of building the house? (不超过10个词) 38. He loved painting but often felt sad because his paintings didn’t look as good as those of his friends. David admired Sarah’s bright colors and Tom’s clear lines. He wished he could paint just like them, but he felt he could never measure up to (达到) their skill. So he decided to stop painting. One day, an old artist visited the village. He noticed David’s untouched paints and asked, “Why aren’t you painting, young man?” David said, “I’m not as talented as my friends. My paintings never turn out as good as theirs.” The artist smiled kindly, “Nobody can paint perfectly, not even the best artists. Your paintings tell your own story, and that’s what makes them special.” David felt surprised and thought about the artist’s words. He picked up his paint brush and started creating again. From that day forward, David painted with joy. His paintings were still not perfect, but they were his. They were filled with his love for painting. People admired David’s paintings because they were the reflection (反映) of his true stories. True beauty doesn’t lie in perfection, but in the true self. 40. What did the old artist notice? His father went to the corner, found a bag of charcoal (木炭) and said, “Son, take the white shirt hanging on the rope as Jack, and the charcoal in this bag as something bad. Hit the shirt with charcoal, and every time you hit a piece of charcoal, it means Jack has experienced a bad thing. Let’s see what will happen after using up all the charcoal.” Paco didn’t understand why, but he did it anyway. “How do you feel now?” his father asked. “I feel relaxed, but I have left several black marks on my jacket,” Paco said. Father asked Paco to look in the mirror. Paco found himself covered in black charcoal. “You see, the white shirt hasn’t become very dirty, but you’ve become a ‘black’ yourself.” So treating people with an open mind is a kind of spirit. Not everything can go as well as what we hope. If we can learn to tolerate (忍耐) bad things, life will be much better. But if we can’t, everything doesn’t go well. 43. Why was Paco angry? What if it happens while I’m walking outside?” The wise man smiled and said, “But the sky has been there for millions of years without falling. You always worry about something that is highly unlikely to happen. Why not focus on more positive(积极的) things?” The man from the state of Qi listened to the wise man’s words and realized that he had been wasting his time and energy worrying about something that was unlikely to happen. Before you choose the paint color, you can look for some pictures on the Internet or in magazines to help you decide your style (风格). At the same time, you can also pay visits to your friends’ bedrooms and get an idea of what you would like to make your own bedroom look like. After you decide your style, think about the atmosphere (气氛) you want to create in your bedroom and then pick a color that is connected with it. For example, if you would like to have a comfortable and peaceful bedroom, you can choose blue. Blue brings peace to your mind and body, so it’s perfect for helping you relax at the end of a long day. If you want to feel warm in your bedroom, you can choose yellow or orange which can bring you warmth and joy. Next, paint the ceiling (天花板). You can either use the same color as the walls’ or you can add another color to the bedroom. You’d better pick a color that can match the walls’ color of your bedroom. In this way, you can create a feeling of harmony (和谐). However, you need to avoid painting your ceiling in dark colors, or you may feel stressed (压抑) in the room. 49. Where can you go to get an idea of designing (设计) your own bedroom? (不超过 5个词) 50. What is the writer’s advice to choose the color of the ceiling? (不超过20个词) 51. Therefore, the soldiers were worried. They didn’t think they could possibly win. The general thought for a while and then had an idea. He told his soldiers that they could win the fight only if they followed his new plan. However, his soldiers doubted whether he could come up with a plan that would be successful. On the way to the battlefield, the general stopped at a temple and told his men, “After my visit to the temple, I will toss (投掷) a coin. If it comes up heads, we will win. If it comes up backs, we will lose. Destiny (命运) holds us in her hand.” The general went into the temple and wished for victory. Then he came out and toss a coin in front of his men. The coin came up heads. The soldiers were amazed and thought they would win the coming fight. They fought hard and won in the end. “No one can change the hand of destiny,” one of his men told the general after they won the fight. They believed that the gods themselves had planned for them to win the fight all along. “In fact, it was not like that,” the general said, taking out the coin. The soldiers walked up to see what it was, but only saw a coin with heads on both sides. The coin toss might have been “fake” (假的), but their confidence and bravery were still real. “_________________________”, they learned an important lesson. 52. Why were the soldiers worried? Teachers at the Deep Green Bush-School in New Zealand think this might not be right. What if one day people have to live a primitive (原始的) life? So, the school hardly teaches reading, writing or maths classes. Instead, students go out to learn how to find food, cook and learn about plants and animals. Teachers and students at the school believe that if you can survive in the wild, you can survive anywhere. But are these wilderness survival skills really important? After all, we now live in a modern world. In today’s world, people need to learn many other skills to be successful, such as how to find a job, drive a car or speak a foreign language. It seems that most of us don’t learn survival skills because we don’t need them anymore. In fact, survival skills change along with time and the development of society. We would wait for more family members to come before eating together at the table, my grandma’s dinner table. I used to feel that was a silly little tradition. For me, dinner is not just a meal, but a chance to reconnect with each other. I finally realize the true meaning of this tradition. It’s not about the dinners or activities.
