把原文的关键词进行同义替换,如把lose one’s job换成了be out of work (2)改变词性。 What does the underlined word “it” in the first paragraph refer to? What can we infer from the last paragraph? /What can we learn about John from the first two paragraphs? Which of the following is the best title for the text? / What is the first paragraph mainly about? /What is the text mainly about? For Miss Patty, a school bus driver in Erie County, her hobby of knitting (编织) has made her really touch the community. Miss Patty always wanted to do something with her spare time to help the students. As a result, a lot of food is forgotten about and wasted. However, according to a recent research, being aware of (意识到) what you throw away can help you waste less. The researchers measured (计量) food waste from 154 families across the UK. Half of these families in the research were asked to list the fruits and vegetables they had bought and their expiry dates. The families stuck the list on the fridge door and received a text message every day telling them to check it. The other half did not have to make a list and did not receive text messages. Over a six-week period, all the families were asked to measure their food waste at the end of each week. The researchers were surprised to find that making lists and getting texts made little difference to how much food was wasted. However, each family in the research wasted less food—about 0.1 kilo a week. The researchers carried on the research for six months, and found that all the families continued to waste less food. This shows that just measuring food waste encourages people to pay closer attention to it and throw less away. 5. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 2 refer to (指的是)? A. The research. B. The list. C. The door. D. The message. 6. What is introduced in paragraph 3 about the six-week research? A. Its purpose. B. Its method. C. Its steps. D. Its results. 7. And SAFFiR, a two-legged robot that can do dangerous work that humans are often unable to do. Hong is finding plenty of work for his robots. Hong’s team made DARwIn’s design free for anyone to use. They have seen many projects using the design. And they consider it a gift to the robotics community. “Many people only want to see our successes and not the failures that came before those, but failure is simply a stepping stone in developing new technology. If you’re too afraid of failure, then you only get to walk on the safer side, and then there’s no innovation (创新),” said Hong. “I tell my students to try breaking the robot. Here are some of my suggestions. When you are angry, try to tell yourself through another voice that you are angry and that it is not a bad thing. It just shows that you have different ideas. Accept that many things are not 100% right or wrong. In our communication with others, the final purpose is not to decide who is right and who is wrong, but to look for something in common. If you still feel strong anger, try taking a deep breath (呼吸) and let anger out of your body along with the breath. Don’t say angry words when you are very angry, for you will regret saying them when you cool down. Discussing with a third party is helpful. It is hard for the two parties in anger to understand each other, but the idea of an outsider can help both parties to get mutual (相互的) understanding. Anger is just one of the many emotions (情绪) that make us human, and to well manage it adds to our ability to truly understand the world. 14. What is the final purpose of communication with other people? A. To show different ideas. B. To look for something in common. C. To accept useful suggestions. D. To decide whether one is right or not. 15. What does the writer advise us to do when we can’t cool down? A. Say angry words. B. Try taking a deep breath. C. Control our voices. D. The main cause is your body clock, a time-keeper inside your body. But how to control and use your body clock? Scientists suggested having a shower before bed. Jumping into the shower around an hour before bed could mean you sleep better. A warm shower helps you relax, and then after it warms you up, your core(核心)body temperature drops. This encourages you to fall asleep more quickly and sleep more soundly. A study in 2019 said that a water temperature of 40℃ to 42. 4℃ produces the best-quality(最优质的)sleep. After people lie down, most of them take about 20 minutes to fall asleep. However, if you have a shower one to two hours before going to bed, you will fall asleep 10 minutes earlier. Core body temperature drops naturally before you sleep, then drops further during the night. It rises again as you wake up. It is thought that taking a warm shower will speed up the drop in temperature before bed, as it brings blood to the surface of the body, and then the heat is given off. 21. There, we stored our knowledge, and passed it down around the fire, before we invented the written word. I remember going to the local university for an astronomy (天文学) night when I was a child. That night, I saw Saturn, one of the planets, and its rings with my own eyes for the first time. The rings shone bright against the blackness of space and suddenly the universe (宇宙) wasn’t something that you only read about or imagined in your head. It was right there, and you were a part of it. That moment is priceless. While starlight is good, light pollution here on Earth can be a real problem. For the past 200 years or so, we have used too much electricity (电) to make the night brighter. However, brighter doesn’t usually mean better, especially when a lot of that light shines up into the sky where no one needs it. Luckily, some cities have taken actions, like setting up new downward-directing lights along the streets. I hope that more cities will join in and continue the practice of controlling unnecessary lighting, so that more of us can watch the night sky in a way humans have for thousands of years. 35. What is the night sky compared to? A. A book. B. The earth. C. A library. D. The universe. 36. How did the writer find the astronomy night? A. It opened his eyes. B. It controlled his mind. C. But it has the clearest and cleanest air. Amazingly, in this place, the sun sometimes hangs even in the midnight sky. This place is Antarctica (南极洲): the coldest, windiest and harshest (恶劣的) place on the Earth. As the world’s least-known place, Antarctica is of great interest to scientists around the world. During 30 years, China has sent many scientists to Antarctica. They mostly look at the resources under the icy land and do research about climate change and marine (海洋的) biology. Antarctica is a place with fantastic views. However, life there is very hard. Food is one of the biggest problems. Frozen food which can be heated easily is people’s daily food. Fresh vegetables are hard to grow in the cold weather. Sleep is also difficult. In Antarctica, summer lasts from November to March. During this period, Antarctica points to the sun and receives sunlight 24 hours a day. In order to get some sleep, scientists cover the windows with black plastic cloth to create “night”. Working in Antarctica is dangerous, especially when meeting gale-force (七级以上的) winds. They can easily blow people away. So there are ropes that connect buildings of some research stations. People can hold these ropes to keep their balance in forceful winds. What’s more, communicating with others is difficult. Without cables and Internet in some research stations, two-way radios are the only tools to communicate. If people want to say hello to friends and relatives, they can use satellite phones. 7. YORI is only the latest of Hong’s robot inventions. There’s DAVID, the world’s first and only car that can be driven by the blind. And SAFFiR, a two-legged robot that can do dangerous work that humans are often unable to do. Hong is finding plenty of work for his robots. When he was asked about his biggest success, Hong chose the robot called DARwIn-OP. He thought it was one of the most widely used human-like robots for research and education. If the robot doesn’t fall and doesn’t break, we don’t get to learn anything.” 11. Which robot is the most recent invention by Dennis Hong’s team? A. YORI. B. DAVI. C. SAFFiR. D. DARwIn-OP. 12. D. Stop talking with others. 16. What does the underlined word “party” in paragraph 4 mean? A. An activity. B. A visitor. C. A person. D. A meeting. 17. What is the text mainly about? A. The book contains(包含)the name and the picture of each student in your final year, so that you can remember who you went to school with. A 15-year-old schoolgirl Catherine Cook and her brother David, 16, wanted more than this. They thought, “We don’t really know our classmates from just a picture, so why not have a yearbook online? You could learn about people’s musical tastes, the movies they like, and so on.” With their hard work, a website named myYearbook was set up, which soon became popular among schoolmates. On the website, members can connect with each other by sharing movies, music, photos and study guides. Some students feel that they don’t fit in at school, but can make friends more easily online. MyYearbook users can also make virtual(虚拟的)“Lunch Money” by completing activities on the website. They then give it away to charities(慈善机构) in the myYearbook “causes” programme, which has sent 22,000 books to Africa, and bought 20,000 kilos of rice for people without enough food. 21. What did scientists suggest people do before bed to sleep better? A. Sleep an hour earlier. B. Jump into bed. C. Have a warm shower. D. Set a time clock. 22. What does the underlined word “soundly” probably mean? A. Deeply. B. Poorly. C. Kindly. D. Slowly. 23. Which water temperature produces the best-quality sleep according to the study? C. It was a real problem. D. It took him too much time. 37. What does the writer hope for? A. A brighter night. B. Less use of lighting. C. More personal space. D. A better education. 12 (2022·中考真题)A team of scientists are carrying out a project at the University of Greenwich in London. They are trying to find ways to make food on Mars (火星) in the future. The project is called Feeding Mars. It tries to use water, fish and fish waste to grow fruit and vegetables on Mars. It would take at least 21 months to reach Mars, learn about its surface and return to Earth. So it would be a big help if the spacemen could grow fresh food on Mars itself. Farming on Mars, however, will be very hard. There’s plenty of water that could be taken from ice just below the surface, but the land on Mars is missing the nutrients (养分) that living things need. The team say that they could solve the problem by growing plants and fish together. Fish waste can then be used to provide nutrients for plants. “It is expected that you can grow lots of food, such as vegetables, salads, teas and medicinal plants on Mars,” said Dr Benz Kotzen, who leads the project. “You can even harvest (捕获) fish for food then.” 38. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 1 refer to (指的是)? A. The future. B. The project. C. The land. D. The planet. 39. What makes it difficult to farm on Mars? A. Ice below the surface. B. Although it is challenging to work in Antarctica, scientists’ passion to learn about this mysterious land will never end. It is hopeful that one day they will step every comer of this icy land. 102. In 1991, Wang went to a massage (按摩) school for the blind. Over the next three years, while taking care of their child, Zhou found a job to support the family. In 1995, Wang returned home and opened the first blind massage and healthcare center in his hometown. In 1996, he began offering free massage training for the blind. Sometimes it was very late at night when he got home after a day of work and Zhou was already asleep. But when he ate the food left for him on the dining table by his wife, all of his fatigue disappeared. “If I had three days to see, I would see my wife, the prettiest woman in the world,” Wang said. “She lifted me out of the darkness, so I want to be the light for other people. The goal of fast fashion is to get these new styles into shops as fast as possible, so customers can buy them. Now lots of famous fast fashion brands are popular in China, such as Uniqlo, Zara, UR, H&M and so on. However, the fashion industry is not environmentally friendly. To keep prices low, fashion companies often use a kind of material called polyester (聚酯纤维), which is a type of plastic made from oil that is not biodegradable (可生物降解的). Also the process of producing clothes uses lots of chemicals, which can pollute the environment. What’s worse, fast fashion clothes aren’t made to last forever because they often go out of style quite quickly. Some people throw their clothes away when they don’t want them anymore. As a result, lots of people are looking for changes. Some clothing brands are helping customers to recycle their clothes in exchange for vouchers (代金券). Some charities have taken action too. Every year since 2019, the charity Oxfam has held Second Hand September, asking people to buy only second-hand clothes in that month. Some maps show cities and some show the stars. Here I will introduce another kind of map, the Nature-in-the-Round map. It will show you the beauty of nature in your own area. To create a Nature-in-the-Round map, you’ll need a piece of paper, a black pencil and some colored pencils or crayons. First, you should draw a large circle (圆) on the paper. Then cut it out. Next, draw a small picture of yourself in the center of the circle. Then take the paper and pencils outside and sit in the middle of an open area. There are four kinds of the Nature-in-the-Round map. They are the sight map, the travel map, the sound map and the seasonal map. The sight map Now look around you. Draw everything that you see around you, including plants, insects and rocks——every natural thing you see. When you finish your picture, head back indoors and color your picture to complete the map. Write when and where your map is created. The travel map The next time you visit a park, a forest, a beach, or any other natural place, draw a map to help you remember your visit.
