Shoes worn outside can be media for all kinds of dirt and microbes. According to the experts, about one-third of the matter building up inside your home comes from outside, much of it being tracked in on the soles of our shoes. But not all dirt is bad dirt. Some household germs can actually be useful in helping build up a child’s immune system, for example. But the real issue is that some of the disease-causing organisms found on our shoes and floors are drug-resistant, causing illnesses that are difficult to treat. “Cancer-causing toxins can be found on these shoes,” scientists say, “so it is best to leave your filth outside the door.” Every day we carry much dirt with us on the soles of our shoes-mud. For many households, the pandemic has greatly reduced the number of places we go to. But even at that, all it takes is one walk down the street or a few minutes at the park to make you bring something nasty back home. It’s important to note that not wearing shoes inside is more than just a hygiene thing. In many cultures around the world, leaving your shoes at the door is a sign of respect, a nod to superstition and it may even be in service of good health. Reflexologists (反射治疗师) say that walking around barefoot can help boost your circulation, improve your sleep quality and stimulate the reflexes on the soles of your feet, reducing inflammation, pain and tension. 4. What can we learn about dirt? A. All the dirt in the house comes from dirty shoes. B. The dirt can help build up a child’s immune system. C. The dirt brought back by shoes is very harmful to adults. D. About a third of the dirt produced in the home comes from the outside. 5. What’s the author’s attitude towards leaving shoes at the doorstep? A. Supportive B. Critical C. Indifferent D. Neutral 6. There are many benefits of not wearing shoes indoors except ________. Leaving shoes at the doorstep for health reasons C “ChatGPT is a computer program that can understand and respond to text like a person. It’s like havinga conversation with a very smart robot,” says ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence text generator. In November of 2022, the computer program ChatGPT generated significant public interest across the globe for its broad applications and commercial value. This AI model demonstrated its ability to perform a variety of tasks, from generating book summaries, recommendations, and personal research assistance, to drafting college SOPs, essays, and emails. According to Ehsan Hoque, Associate Professor of Computer Science at UR, while the concepts used to build ChatGPT are not entirely new, combining them with this AI model marks a significant achievement in the field of AI engineering. With that being said, the system has also generated contention over its possible violation of academic honesty. The use of ChatGPT for homework assignments is a growing concern for professors across the globe. The University, on the other hand, has not addressed or made a statement on this matter. There are potential academic violations for homework and exams. One such case is Professor of Political Science and Business David Primo. He entered one of his previous test questions into ChatGPT, and ChatGPT got it exactly correct. Despite concerns, Primo understands that the issue of academic honesty is a concern that has existed and will exist forever. He talks about this as well as the many other negative uses of the internet, saying “The internet makes it easy to spread hateful messages and pirate music, but do you want to go back to a time where you couldn’t bank online, or listen to music online?” Primo also pictures this technological advancement being integrated into classes and assessments in the future. “Universities should move slowly here and let faculty members experiment with various approaches to AI and adapt to a world of AI,” said Primo. 8. What makes the program a great breakthrough? A. Its ability to perform various tasks. B. Its achievements in learning technology. C. Its wide application and commercial value. D. The combination of its concept and AI model. 9. What does the underlined word in the third paragraph mean? A. dispute B. support C. disadvantage D. mistake 10. What might Primo agree with regarding the use of ChatGPT? A. It is a double-edged sword. B. It has little impact on academia. C. Its advantages outweigh its disadvantages. D. It should be prohibited for academic integrity. 11. What is the text mainly about? A. ChatGPT demonstrates its great strength. B. ChatGPT generates great argument. C. ChatGPT arouses significant public interest. D ChatGPT causes the potential academic violations. D Scientists have been researching the way to get employees motivated for many years. The related research builds the fundamental and comprehensive model for study. This is especially true when the business goal is to turn unmotivated teams into productive ones. But their researchers have limitations. It is like studying the movements of car without taking out the engine. Motivation is what drives people to succeed and plays a vital role in enhancing an organizational development. It is important to study the motivation of employees because it is related to the emotion and behavior of employees. Recent studies show there are three drives for motivation. The drive to acquire must be met to optimize achievement. Thus it requires that outstanding performance should be recognized and rewards provided to polish the career path. But sometimes a written letter of app reciation generates more motivation than a thousand-dollar check, which can serve as the invisible power to boost business engagement. Successful organizations and leaders not only need to focus on the optimization of physical reward but also on moving other levers within the organization that can drive motivation. The drive to comprehend motivates many employees to higher performance. For years, it has been known that setting stretch goals can greatly impact performance. Organizations need to ensure that the various job roles provide employees with simulation that challenges them or allow them to grow. Employees don’t want to do meaningless things or monotonous job. If the job didn’t provide them with personal meaning and fulfillment, they will leave the company. The drive to defend is often the hardest lever to pull. This drive displays itself as a quest to create and promote justice, fairness, and the ability to express ourselves freely. The organizational lever for this basic human motivator is resource distribution. This drive is also me t through an employee feeling connected to a company. If their companies are merged with another, they will show worries. The key to successfully motivating employees is to meet all drives. Each of these drives is important if we are to understand employee motivation. 12. What is true about the study of motivation? A. The study is too theoretical and lacks practice. B. Its main goal is to increase the profit of organizations. C. The theory of motivating employees is set up in recent years. D. It is important for managers as it is related to the salary of employees. 13. What is against “drives of motivation”? A. The company distributes its employees reasonably. B. The company sets profound goals for its employees. C. Employees gain a sense of personal belonging in the company. D. The companies provide employees with spiritual encouragement. 14. How does “the drive to comprehend” help employees perform better? A. It can help employees set higher goals. B. It can provide employees with repetitive tasks. C. It helps employees realize their own value to the company. D. It helps employees understand the development of their organizations. 15. What does the author intend to show in paragraph five? A. It is not difficult to meet the drive to defend. B. It is significant to merge with another company. C. It is very important to voice employees’ own opinions. D. It is the most difficult to distribute organizational resource. A Neurologist’s Tips to Protect Your Memory As we age, our memory declines. This is a fixed assumption for many people; however, according to neuroscientist Dr. Richard Restak, a neurologist and clinical professor, decline is not unavoidable. ___16___. Here are some of his tips for developing and maintaining a healthy memory. Pay more attention. Some memory declines are actually attention problems, not memory problems. For instance, if you’ve forgotten the name of someone you met at a cocktail party, it could be because you were talking with several people at the time. One way to pay attention when you learn new information is to visualize the word. ___17___. Play games. Dr. Restak’s “favorite working memory game” is 20 Questions — in which a group thinks of a person, place or object, and the other person, the questioner, asks 20 questions with a yes-or-no answer. To succeed, the questioner must hold all of the previous answers in memory in order to guess the correct answer. ___18___. “Maintaining information and moving it around in your mind.” Restak wrote. Read more novels. One early indicator of memory issues, according to Dr. Restak, is giving up on fiction. “People, when they begin to have memory difficulties, tend to switch to reading nonfiction.” Fiction requires active engagement with the text, starting at the beginning and working through to the end. ___19___. Storing everything on your phone means that “you don’t know it.” This can damage our own mental abilities. And the phone takes our focus away from the task at hand. Find regular everyday memory challenges. ___20___. Dr. Restak suggested composing a grocery list and memorizing it. When you get to the store, don’t automatically pull out your list (or your phone) — instead, pick up everything according to your memory. Once in a while, get in the car without turning on your GPS, and try to navigate through the streets from memory. A. Beware of technology B. Sort out things on devices C. The point is to engage your working memory D. However, we can prevent the memory decline E. Ultimately, “we are what we can remember,” he said F. Having a picture associated with the word can improve recall G. Jenna was excited when Ms. Baroni announced Marti, Jenna’s best friend, would be taking lessons too. Everyone’s warm welcome made Marti blush, and Jenna walked over to comfort her. After warm-up exercises, Ms. Baroni divided everyone into color-belt groups. Even though Jenna was a yellow belt and a level above Marti, Ms. Baroni asked them to work together. Jenna nodded and demonstrated (展示) a front kick confidently. Marti copied it. Her kick was as high as Jenna’s shoulder. Then came a burst of cheers from Ms. Baroni behind. She spent the next five minutes showing Marti moves. Jenna threw herself against the wall staring at Marti copying everything Ms. Baroni did. The more Marti did, the more praise she earned from Ms. Baroni. What if Marti became better than her? What if Marti became Ms. Baroni’s favorite student? Jenna was practicing her form (招式) halfheartedly when she heard a scolding. “Watch your form!”Jenna turned and noticed Ms. Baroni looking directly at her. Nothing could have been worse. But afterwards, she heard Ms. Baroni’s encouraging words. “You’ve memorized your form perfectly, but your moves could be better. Try the side kick again.” However, the encouragement didn’t work. The moment the class was over, Jenna grabbed her bag and hurried outside. She had planned to wait for Marti, but now she preferred to be left alone. For the following weeks, Marti continued to impress their teacher with her skills. And as Marti turned into a star student, Jenna became less and less excited about taekwondo. One day, Marti told Jenna the good news that she was ready to test for her new belt with Ms. Baroni’s recognition. Jenna stopped in her tracks and said sourly. “It’s more challenging than you imagine.” Marti looked disappointed. “You don’t think I’m skillful enough to test yet?” Jenna felt her face flushed and denied. She didn’t like feeling jealous, but she couldn’t help it. She wasn’t ready for her next belt because she hadn’t been practicing every day. Paragraph 1: A week later, at the belt testing, Jenna saw Marti warming up. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Jenna thought, “I don’t practice that much in a week!” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力 1—5 BCAAB 6—10 AACBB 11—15 CCACC 16—20 BBCAB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2023学年第二学期温州十校联合体期末联考 高二年级英语学科试题 考生须知: 1. 1. A. showing respect B. stimulating reflection C. avoiding messing up carpet D. reducing the amount of dirt 7. What’s the best title of the text? A. Walking barefoot or not B. Getting rid of your home dirt C. Learning from African proverbs D. Leaving shoes at the doorstep for health reasons 【答案】4. D 5. A 6. B 7. 根据第二段中“According to the experts, about one-third of the matter building up inside your home comes from outside, much of it being tracked in on the soles of our shoes.(根据专家的说法,大约三分之一在你家里堆积的物质来自外部,其中大部分是通过我们的鞋底追踪到的。)” 根据第二段中“According to the experts, about one-third of the matter building up inside your home comes from outside, much of it being tracked in on the soles of our shoes.(根据专家的说法,大约三分之一在你家里堆积的物质来自外部,其中大部分是通过我们的鞋底追踪到的。)”以及本段中“But the real issue is that some of the disease-causing organisms found on our shoes and floors are drug-resistant, causing illnesses that are difficult to treat.(但真正的问题是,在我们的鞋子和地板上发现的一些致病微生物是耐药的,会导致难以治疗的疾病。)” 故选A。 根据最后一段中“It’s important to note that not wearing shoes inside is more than just a hygiene thing. In many cultures around the world, leaving your shoes at the door is a sign of respect, a nod to superstition and it may even be in service of good health.(重要的是要注意,在室内不穿鞋不仅仅是卫生问题。 因此D选项“Leaving shoes at the doorstep for health reasons(出于健康考虑把鞋子放在门口)”概括文章主要内容,符合标题。故选D。 C “ChatGPT is a computer program that can understand and respond to text like a person. D. ChatGPT causes the potential academic violations. D 9. A 10. C 11. 根据第二段中“According to Ehsan Hoque, Associate Professor of Computer Science at UR, while the concepts used to build ChatGPT are not entirely new, combining them with this AI model marks a significant achievement in the field of AI engineering.(根据UR计算机科学副教授Ehsan Hoque的说法,虽然用于构建ChatGPT的概念并不是全新的,但将它们与人工智能模型相结合标志着人工智能工程领域的重大成就。)” 根据划线词后的内容“…over its possible violation of academic honesty.( ......可能违反学术诚信。)”可知,这个系统也因可能违反学术诚信而引起了争论。故划线词与A选项“dispute(争论)”为同义词。故选A。 根据最后一段“Primo also pictures this technological advancement being integrated into classes and assessments in the future. “Universities should move slowly here and let faculty members experiment with various approaches to AI and adapt to a world of AI,” said Primo.( Primo还描绘了这种技术进步在未来被整合到课堂和评估中。Primo说:“大学应该在这方面慢慢行动,让教师们试验各种人工智能方法,适应人工智能的世界。”)”可知,Primo还描绘了这种技术进步在未来被整合到课堂和评估中。Primo认为大学应该在这方面慢慢行动,让教师们试验各种人工智能方法,适应人工智能的世界,由此推断,Primo认为ChatGPT的优点大于缺点。故选C。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段中“With that being said, the system has also generated contention over its possible violation of academic honesty. (话虽如此,该系统也引发了可能违反学术诚信的争论。)”以及第四段中“There are potential academic violations for homework and exams.(在家庭作业和考试中有潜在的学术违规。)” B。 D Scientists have been researching the way to get employees motivated for many years. C Employees gain a sense of personal belonging in the company. A 13. B 14. C 15. 根据第一段中“Scientists have been researching the way to get employees motivated for many years.(多年来,科学家们一直在研究如何激励员工。)”以及“The related research builds the fundamental and comprehensive model for study. This is especially true when the business goal is to turn unmotivated teams into productive ones. But their researchers have limitations. It is like studying the movements of car without taking out the engine.(相关研究构建了基础性、综合性的研究模型。 故选A。 根据第四段中“Organizations need to ensure that the various job roles provide employees with simulation that challenges them or allow them to grow. Employees don’t want to do meaningless things or monotonous job. If the job didn’t provide them with personal meaning and fulfillment, they will leave the company.(组织需要确保不同的工作角色为员工提供挑战他们或允许他们成长的模拟。员工不想做无意义的事情或单调的工作。如果这份工作不能给他们带来个人意义和成就感,他们就会离开公司。)”可知,组织需要确保各种职位为员工提供具有挑战性或让他们成长的机会。这与选项B“The company sets profound goals for its employees.(公司为员工设定了深远的目标)”相悖,因为这里强调的是任务的挑战性和员工的成长,而不是“深远”的目标。 根据第四段中“The drive to comprehend motivates many employees to higher performance. For years, it has been known that setting stretch goals can greatly impact performance. (对理解驱动激励着许多员工追求更高的绩效。多年来,人们已经知道设定具有挑战性的目标可以极大地影响绩效。)”以及本段中“If the job didn’t provide them with personal meaning and fulfillment, they will leave the company.(如果这份工作不能给他们带来个人意义和成就感,他们就会离开公司。)” 根据第五段中“The drive to defend is often the hardest lever to pull. This drive displays itself as a quest to create and promote justice, fairness, and the ability to express ourselves freely. (防守驱动往往是最难拉的杠杆。这种动力表现为追求创造和促进正义、公平以及自由表达自己的能力。)”可知,在防守驱动中,自由表达自己的能力是非常重要的。C选项“It is very important to voice employees’ own opinions.(表达员工自己的意见是非常重要的。)” A Neurologist’s Tips to Protect Your Memory As we age, our memory declines. A Beware of technology B. Sort out things on devices C. The point is to engage your working memory D. However, we can prevent the memory decline E. Ultimately, “we are what we can remember,” he said F. Having a picture associated with the word can improve recall G. There are many memory exercises that you can integrate into everyday life 【答案】16. E 17. F 18. C 19. A 20. Jenna threw herself against the wall, staring at Marti copying everything Ms. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Jenna thought, “I don’t practice that much in a week!” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: A week later, at the belt testing, Jenna saw Martin warming up. After warm-up exercises, Marti took a deep breath and started to show her forms, demonstrating the front kick and side kick with confidence. After her last form shown in a perfect way, floods of cheers and applause came from Ms Baroni and audience present. Undoubtedly, Marti passed the belt test. At the sight of Marti’s excited expression, Jenna was overwhelmed by a sense of envy. “How could she make it?” Jenna murmured. Then came Ms Baroni’s voice. “Jenna deserves success. She nearly employed all her spare time to practice.” Jenna thought, “I don’t practice that much in a week!” No wonder that Marti performed so well. Reflecting on what she had done before, Jenna felt ashamed of her behavior and regretted not practicing attentively. As Jenna was immersed in thoughts, Marti approached and invited her to celebrate this exciting occasion. At that moment, Jenna realized the holy friendship between them could not be defeated by jealousy and spilt out all her inner feelings to Marti. With a mixture of astonishment and guilt, Marti hugged Jenna tightly and made an appointment that she would practice with Jenna every day. 词汇激活 行为类 ①展示:show/showcase ②.利用:employ/make use of ③.接近:approach/come over/get close to 情绪类 ①.激动的:excited/thrilled ②.惊讶:astonishment/amazement/shock 【点睛】[高分句型1].
