B One Saturday last November, I stepped into my local library. I was about to read a book when I heard an elderly man speak to a lady. “This library will soon become a café. Everyone is reading with electronic devices,” he said. Hearing this, I wanted to shout, “I still read library books!” But my words stuck in my throat and I found teenagers around me were talking to friends or staring at their phones. Reading online feels robotic to me. It’s like I stare at a screen and click “next” for the following page to appear until the very end of the e-book, and at the end of all of that, I just think, “That’s it?” But when I read a printed book, it’s like I’m holding on to the characters. I can imagine the plot better, as I can picture the scenes of each moment in my head with more accuracy and imagination. Besides, some online books miss components (组成部分) that are in the printed novels. For instance, the physical copy of a fantasy novel I have read contains a map, but the e-book version does not. That is an injustice to e-book users; after reading and understanding the map, the story made a lot more sense for me, in terms of the setting and plot. And personally, physically turning to the next page is better than clicking “next”. When reading online, I sometimes worry that I click “next” too quickly. It feels more like a race; I want to finish it because the pages just keep making that “flipping” sound and I wonder how long the book really is. Some printed books have a special smell that makes the novel feel special to me. It’s hard to describe but I’m sure I’m not the only one that thinks so. I know I cannot convince every teen to switch from the digital book to the printed one, but maybe my writing about the difference will at least get some of them to think about it. 4. Why will the library be replaced by a café? A. Few people head for it. B. It lacks good management. C. Few people read its books. D. It holds little attraction for the youth. 5. Why does the author prefer printed books according to paragraph 2? A. They include additional contents. B. They leave a lively impression. C. They have a special pleasant smell. D. They can improve readers’ imagination. 6. What influence does reading online have on the author? A. Making her tired of reading. B. Leading her to read aimlessly. C. Bringing more fun to her. D. Stopping her digging into reading. 7. What is the author’s purpose of writing this text? A. To inspire teenagers’ interest in reading. B. To show advantages of printed books. C. To reduce the impact of electronic devices. D. To encourage teens to change the reading medium. C People are flying more than ever. From short trips to traveling around the globe, many are on the move. But finding the way at the airports has never been easy in the US, due to crowding and a lot of tasks like checking in, taking care of baggage, screening and finding your gate. It is often difficult to get to where you are going. If you are in a wheelchair or visually (视觉地) challenged, it’s even harder. The new terminal (航站楼) at the Kansas City International Airport is designed to fix many of these shortcomings. The new facility features indoor play areas, changing rooms, and a quiet room for people who cannot handle the noise or activity of a busy airport. There is even a pet relief area for people traveling with their fury family members. One innovation (创新) is the glass-walled jet bridge for people who are worried about getting on and off planes. And for people who are uncomfortable with the whole airport and flying process, there are simulators (模拟器) that allow travelers to go from boarding to taking off virtually. Justin Meyer, with the Kansas City Aviation Department, said the new terminal sets a level of inclusivity that passengers will expect in other airports. “The goal isn’t that we’re forever at the head of the line,” Meyer said. “My goal was just to raise the bar, so if someone else wants to build the most accessible airport in the world, they’re going to have to start from where Kansas City stopped. In the end, passengers win.” While making airports more accessible to people with different abilities may seem to be expensive or difficult, the benefits certainly outweigh the costs. Accessible airports mean that more people and their families will be able to travel and then the skies will be friendly to all. 8. What is the function of paragraph 1? A. To call on airports to improve their services. B. To explain the background to the new terminal. C. To stress the annoyance of frequent air travelers. D. To show the complexity of boarding procedures. 9. Who are most likely to use the glass-walled jet bridge? A. People who take a pet. B. People who use a wheelchair. C. People who travel with their families. D. People who have flight anxiety. 10. What can we know about the new terminal according to Justin Meyer? A. It needs further improvement. B. It has the best passenger services. C. It sets a higher standard for airport services. D. It aims to lead the world in accessibility. 11. What is the author’s attitude towards the Kansas City International Airport’s practice? A. Supportive. B. Conservative. C. Unprejudiced. D. Doubtful. D Jennifer DeStefano answered a call from an unknown number only to hear a man threatening her 15-year-old daughter’s life and demanding money, as well as the sound of her daughter crying for help. But while she kept him on the phone, her friends managed to reach her daughter, discovering that she was, in fact, free and well on a skiing trip in Arizona. The voice used on the phone was cloned. A brief sample (样本) of a voice can be used to train an AI model, which can then speak any given text sounding like that person. Now the dangers are starting to be talked aloud. ElevenLabs, an AI start-up, offers users the chance to create their own clones in minutes and the results are disturbingly accurate. When generating a playback, the system allows users to choose between variability and stability (稳定性). Select “variability”, and the voice will have a lifelike intonation (语调), including pauses like “er...”. Choose “stability”, and it will come across more like a calm and unemotional newsreader. Taylor Jones, a linguist and consultant, took a careful look at the quality of ElevenLabs’s clone of his voice in a video. A low-tech test, a “conversation” with his own mother, fooled the woman who raised him. For several years customers have been able to identify themselves over the phone to their bank and other companies using their voice. This was a security upgrade, not a danger. Not even a gifted voice actor could fool the detection system. But now the banks are forced to change in order to prevent crime. Creative industries could face trouble. Voice actors’ skills, trained over a lifetime, can be copied in seconds. But some actors may, in fact, find cloning congenial. One actor, who has lost much of his voice to throat cancer, was delighted to have his voice restored for his new movie. Others may be spared the trouble of heading for the studio for retakes. Another industry that will have to deal with the rise of clones is journalism. Secret recordings have long been the contributor to the big news. Now who will trust a story based on an audio clip How does the author lead in the topic? A. By telling a story. B. By explaining a concept. C. By making a guess. D. By making a comparison. 13. Why is Taylor Jones mentioned in paragraph 3? A. To analyze the use of voice cloning. B. To draw readers’ attention to AI. C. To prove ElevenLabs’s achievements. D. To show the danger of voice cloning. 14. What does the underlined word “congenial” in the last paragraph probably mean? A. Annoying. B. Shocking. C. Suitable. D. Inventive. 15. Which can be the best title for the text? A. AI Technology: Good or Bad? B. AI-based Voice: A Potential Risk C. Cloned Voice: Who to Blame? D. She was not only good in her studies, but also good at sports. Maha was smart and kind-hearted. Her parents were proud of her and she was well liked by everyone in her family and friends’ circle. A new family moved to their neighbourhood and they had a daughter named Esha, who was the same age as Maha. Soon Maha and Esha became friends because they also studied in the same class and had common interests. Esha was a clever student and was generally a nice person, but often she would become a little arrogant (傲慢的). Esha’s family was rich and she was rather proud of being rich. It was no wonder that Esha had a huge ego (自负) and it often showed itself in her behaviour. When Maha and Esha started to hang out together, Maha noticed that Esha always liked to show off her wealth and lifestyle. Maha also noticed, in the first week of their friendship, that Esha made fun of her classmates who were not rich and she would show off her expensive pens and other things to everyone. When her parents bought a new car, she sent a picture of the car in the group chat of her class. Esha also made it a point to bring expensive make-up bags and even a smartphone, which was not allowed, to the school. This behaviour, annoyed her classmates and they started calling her Miss Ego. Maha warned Esha many times that she should stop making fun of others, but she never listened. Maha decided to break her friendship with Esha because she was an arrogant person. When Esha got to know that Maha did not want to be friends with her anymore, she got mad and started making fun of Maha too. This further frustrated Maha, so she decided to go to Esha’s house and talk to her parents about this. Esha’s parents listened to Maha and they felt ashamed about their daughter’s behaviour. They told Maha that they were sorry for all the stupid things that Esha did. 根据第一段“Everyone is reading with electronic devices”(每个人都在用电子设备阅读)以及“But my words stuck in my throat and I found teenagers around me were talking to friends or staring at their phones.”(但我的话哽在喉咙里,我发现我周围的青少年正在和朋友聊天或盯着他们的手机看。) 根据第二段“But when I read a printed book, it’s like I’m holding on to the characters. I can imagine the plot better, as I can picture the scenes of each moment in my head with more accuracy and imagination.”(但当我读纸质书的时候,就好像我紧紧抓住了书中的人物。 根据第四段“When reading online, I sometimes worry that I click “next” too quickly. It feels more like a race; I want to finish it because the pages just keep making that “flipping” sound and I wonder how long the book really is.”(在网上阅读时,我有时会担心自己点击“下一步”的速度太快。 根据最后一段“I know I cannot convince every teen to switch from the digital book to the printed one, but maybe my writing about the difference will at least get some of them to think about it.”(我知道我无法说服每一个青少年从电子书转向纸质书,但也许我写的关于区别的文章至少会让他们中的一些人思考这个问题。) C People are flying more than ever. A It needs further improvement. B. It has the best passenger services. C. It sets a higher standard for airport services. D. It aims to lead the world in accessibility. 11. What is the author’s attitude towards the Kansas City International Airport’s practice? A. Supportive. B. Conservative. C. Unprejudiced. D. Doubtful. B 9. D 10. C 11. 根据第一段“People are flying more than ever. From short trips to traveling around the globe, many are on the move. But finding the way at the airports has never been easy in the US, due to crowding and a lot of tasks like checking in, taking care of baggage, screening and finding your gate. It is often difficult to get to where you are going. If you are in a wheelchair or visually (视觉地) challenged, it’s even harder.(乘坐飞机的人比以往任何时候都多。从短途旅行到环球旅行,许多人都在移动。但在美国,在机场找路从来都不是件容易的事,因为机场很拥挤,而且还有很多事情要做,比如办理登机手续、照看行李、安检和找登机口。到达你要去的地方往往很困难。如果你坐在轮椅上或有视力障碍,那就更难了)”可推知,第一段的主要作用是介绍设计堪萨斯城国际机场新航站楼的背景。故选B。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“One innovation (创新) is the glass-walled jet bridge for people who are worried about getting on and off planes.(其中一项创新是玻璃幕墙的喷气桥,为那些担心上下飞机的人提供服务)”可知,有飞行焦虑的人最有可能使用玻璃幕墙式登机桥。 根据倒数第二段““The goal isn’t that we’re forever at the head of the line,” Meyer said. “My goal was just to raise the bar, so if someone else wants to build the most accessible airport in the world, they’re going to have to start from where Kansas City stopped. In the end, passengers win.”(Meyer说:“我们的目标并不是永远站在队伍的最前面。我的目标只是提高标准,所以如果其他人想要建造世界上最便利的机场,他们将不得不从堪萨斯城停止的地方开始。”最终,乘客是赢家。”)”可推知,Justin Meyer认为新航站楼在机场服务方面设立了很高的标准。故选C。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“While making airports more accessible to people with different abilities may seem to be expensive or difficult, the benefits certainly outweigh the costs. Accessible airports mean that more people and their families will be able to travel and then the skies will be friendly to all.(虽然让不同能力的人更容易进入机场似乎是昂贵或困难的,但收益肯定大于成本。 A。 D Jennifer DeStefano answered a call from an unknown number only to hear a man threatening her 15-year-old daughter’s life and demanding money, as well as the sound of her daughter crying for help. For several years, customers have been able to identify themselves over the phone to their bank and other companies using their voice. D. Voice Cloning: A New Phenomenon 【答案】12. A 13. D 14. C 15. 根据第一段“Jennifer DeStefano answered a call from an unknown number only to hear a man threatening her 15-year-old daughter’s life and demanding money, as well as the sound of her daughter crying for help. But while she kept him on the phone, her friends managed to reach her daughter, discovering that she was, in fact, free and well on a skiing trip in Arizona. The voice used on the phone was cloned.(Jennifer DeStefano接了一个未知号码的电话,却听到一名男子威胁她15岁女儿的生命,索要钱财,以及她女儿求救的声音。 故选A。 根据第二段“Now the dangers are starting to be talked aloud.(现在,人们开始大声谈论这些危险)”以及第三段“A low-tech test, a “conversation” with his own mother, fooled the woman who raised him.(一个低技术含量的测试,一次与他母亲的“对话”,愚弄了抚养他长大的女人)”可知,第三段提到ElevenLabs把Taylor Jones的声音克隆得很逼真,连抚养他长大的母亲都被骗了,因此可推知,作者通过Taylor Jones的例子来说明声音克隆技术可能带来的危害。 根据最后一段“Creative industries could face trouble. Voice actors’ skills, trained over a lifetime, can be copied in seconds.(创意产业可能面临麻烦。 再结合下文中的“One actor, who has lost much of his voice to throat cancer, was delighted to have his voice restored for his new movie. Others may be spared the trouble of heading for the studio for retakes.(一位因喉癌失去了大部分声音的演员,很高兴他的声音在他的新电影中恢复了。 It’s now, more than ever, crucial to adopting a low-impact lifestyle since all kinds of waste, including that of the fashion industry, are piling up in landfills with astonishing speed. ___16___ Thankfully, the following tips can help you reduce clothing waste. ·Buy fewer clothes overall. ___17___ It’s a more cautious approach to shopping and consumption (消费) in general. Amazed 39. him 40. of 41. carefully 42. which 43. inspiration 44. horses 45. saying 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。 故填was sent。 此处是固定搭配:in the Tang Dynasty意为“在唐代”。故填the。 故填him。 故填of。 故填which。 Maha was in the ninth grade and a leader of her class. Esha also made it a point to bring expensive make-up, bags and even a smartphone, which was not allowed, to the school. They then called Esha and made her sit with them. 46. nine hang proudly interest warn wealthy allow disappoint apologize madly ashame inform Smart and kindhearted, Maha, in her ______ grade, was good at both her studies and sports.
