手写和打字的利与弊
The earliest form of writing appeared about 5,500 years ago. In the past, handwriting was an important subject in school. Now, many students sometimes do homework on a computer and turn in their tasks online.
Many people think typing(打字) is quick and easy to read, while writing by hand may take longer than typing. But others say writing with a pen and paper is more valuable. Writing by hand has big advantages. Research shows that when we write down ideas with a pen or pencil, we make the brain active to help us learn, remember and think. Writing by hand lets people show their creativity. No two people have the same handwriting. Writing by hand can also help people concentrate. When using a computer, people can go online or play computer games easily.
Handwriting may be pretty, however, people can get their ideas and thoughts down more quickly when they type. Typing can also make it easier for people to change. Once something is written by hand, you can’t delete it. If you want to make a change, you have to write it all over again. What’s more, some people’s handwriting may be hard to read. Typing makes everything clear, and no one will have to worry about their words being clear enough.

“垃圾睡眠”
You may know about “junk food” like French fries. But do you know about “junk sleep”?
A British survey shows that there are many electronic products in teenagers’ bedrooms. They are influencing teenagers’ sleep badly.
The survey was done among 1,000 British kids from 12 to 16. It is found that 50% of them got just 4 to 7 hours’ sleep every day. But doctors say they need 8 to 9 hours.
Almost 25% of the kids said they often fell asleep while they were watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic products.
“This is very worrying,” said Dr.Chris, a British professor. “We call it ‘junk sleep’. It means you don’t get enough sleep and the quality (质量) of the sleep is low, too.” The survey found that quite a few of the kids felt tired each day because of the junk sleep, especially girls between 13 and 16. Nearly all the teenagers have a phone, music player or TV in their bedrooms. And lots of them even have all the three.
Dr.Chris suggested that parents should help their children keep away from the electronic products, and that teenagers should spend less time on electronic products.

保护环境,从我做起
If you want to help protect the environment and save the planet, we’ve got some easy ways of going green.
•Avoid food waste
Go green and know the importance of finishing your meals to avoid food waste. Do your bit to save the planet as well by planning your meals for the week, so you only buy what you need.
•Use reusable bottles
Earth Day is a great time for you drink from reusable water bottles when you’re out and about. You should form good water-saving habits around the house, too.
•Try more plant-based meals
Try to eat less meat. It’s a surprisingly simple way we can all use to help save the planet. Try with one day a week to get you starting, and then spread to more days when possible.
•Cut down on the air conditioner(空调)
Whenever you can, go green and open the window for some natural air. If you can’t live without your air conditioner, set in at between 25℃ and 27℃ for the most energy-efficient(节能的)temperature.

You don’t need us to tell you how important it is to reduce, reuse and recycle. Becoming a less“throw away” society is a great message to pass on. Don’t throw away perfectly good things just because you are sick of them, or no longer use them. Instead, give them to others or list them on a free collection site online.
