One day, When he finished his work, it was already very late and the last bus had gone. So James had to walk home. In order to get home quicker, he decided to take a shortcut through Central Park. It was dark and there were very few people in the park. James hardly met any one on the path he was taking. Naturally he had some fear. Robbery and murder were often reported in the neighbourhood. But James had no other choice. Then somewhere in the middle of his path, James saw someone coming towards him from the opposite direction. He could not see the stranger clearly but he could tell it was a man of average build, just like himself. His fear began to grow. He tried not to look at the stranger and decided to veer so as to avoid him But when he veered, the stranger veered too. Unfortunately they veered in the same direction and bumped in passing. When the stranger had gone, James was a little relieved. However, a few minutes later, James had a feeling that the bumping could hardly have been an accident. Why did the stranger veer in the same direction as me? He recalled newspaper reports that thieves pretended to bump into people and picked their pockets. With this thought, James felt for his wallet in his pocket. It was gone. James had no doubt that the stranger was a thief and had taken his wallet. Anger made him turn around. Wu is 11 years old now, who moved to Botswana with his family in 2016. During the past years living in the country, Wu found that the quantity of fruit and vegetables sold at local supermarkets was very limited and the quality was poor. Some vegetables weren’t ripe, such as small carrots and green tomatoes. They are also quite expensive. Tropical savanna (草原) and desert climates are typical in most parts of the country. This makes it difficult to grow common crops. Drought-tolerant species of corn, sorghum and beans are also uncommon. For a long time, due to the food shortage, Botswana had to import many grains, fruits and vegetables from neighboring countries to meet the needs of its people. In July last year, Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, successfully kicked off a pilot project to grow China’s water-saving and drought-tolerant rice. This brought Wu some new ideas on local agriculture. The app supports eight crops commonly grown locally. These include tomatoes, potatoes, onions, corn, carrots, cabbage, eggplant and radishes. Farmers who use the application can click on the crop picture. They can see its time points of planting, watering needs, ripening time, seed price, selling price and yield. After planting the seeds, farmers click the timer to start. The application reminds them what to do at each stage. Wu, whose invention has been moving the needle for the life of Botswana farmers, still focuses on solving agricultural problems. He quotes an old saying in China, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and he feeds himself for life. ” 32. Which can be the main reason for Botswana’s food shortage? A. Limited supplies in local markets. B. Unfavourable climate conditions. C. Lack of advanced farming techniques. D. Frequent threats from natural disasters. 33. What does the underlined words “kicked off” in paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Carried out. B. Got rid of. C. Gave away. D. Took over. 34. How can Wu’s application make farmers’ work easier? A. It improves local planting environment. B. It identifies the commonly grown crops. C. It teaches farmers when to plant the seeds. D. It provides basic information of the crops. 35. Which can best describe Wu from the last paragraph? A. Helpful and creative. B. Caring and modest. C. Optimistic and ambitious. D. Considerate and faithful. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Simple Steps to Manage Your Money Your money and how you manage it are some of the most important things in your life. His home is full of medals and many other awards his daughters have won over the years. But the one thing they have never had in abundance (大量) is money. Having a single parent with a low-paid job, they never have pocket money. They wear hand-me-downs store clothing. But they never complain and never cry out for something Tim can’t afford. Tim has many wonderful memories of his daughters. However, there is one that stands out. When Hope was 10 years old and Hannah was 8 years old, they were looking for a gift to give Tim for Christmas. “Dad often gave us gifts. Now I think we should also give one to him,” Hope suggested. Hannah said it was a good idea. And they wondered what gift they should give their dad. After thinking for long, they thought of the National Geographic magazines. Their dad always loved the magazine. But because money was especially tight (紧的) that year, Tim had not been able to subscribe (订阅) to it. “The magazines sold in the bookstore aren’t that cheap. Well, at least, we can buy one and give it to Dad as a Christmas gift,” Hope said. Not having any money of their own, Hope and Hannah then wondered how to solve the problem. Finally, they decided to find part-time jobs in the small neighborhood to make money. First, they needed to be permitted (允许) by their dad. When they shared their decision one night, Tim thought they wanted to buy some toys, candy or something else for themselves. Since he couldn’t give them pocket money and thought part-time jobs could be helpful to a kid, he agreed. But he didn’t want them to be too tired, so he reminded them, “When you find you dislike the jobs, you can just give up.” Hope and Hannah smiled and nodded, and Tim thought they surely wouldn’t stick to their part-time jobs for long. Paragraph 1: The next morning, Hope and Hannah walked around the neighborhood to look for possible part-time jobs. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: With the money, Hope and Hannah rushed to a nearby bookstore. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究!6 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2023-2024学年第二学期高中英语人教版(2019)期末 复习监测金卷(三) 考生注意: 1. 1. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】The next morning, Hope and Hannah walked around the neighborhood to look for possible part-time jobs. They went from door to door. When seeing each neighbor, they briefly talked about their wish. Touched by their wish, the nice neighbors offered them simple jobs, like regularly watering their flowers and walking their dogs. Hope and Hannah excitedly accepted all the work and then devoted themselves to it. Although the work wasn’t that easy, they continued doing it without complaining. When Christmas approached, they found they had saved enough money. With the money, Hope and Hannah rushed to a nearby bookstore. Looking at the magazines, they were excited and picked up the latest. Then, they had the magazine wrapped tightly in beautiful paper. When Christmas arrived, Hope and Hannah proudly handed the gift to their dad, and he was surprised and confused. When Tim found what was inside, he asked, “Did you spend all your hard-earned money on the magazine?” Hope and Hannah just smiled. Tim was so moved and gave each of them a big hug. Although he was poor, he felt he was one of the richest father in the world. 词汇激活 行为类 ①看到/遇到:see/meet/encounter ②提供:offer/provide ③接近:approach/get close 情绪类 ①感动:touched/moved ②困惑的:confused/puzzled 【点睛】[高分句型1]When seeing each neighbor, they briefly talked about their wish.(运用了省略的状语从句) [高分句型2]Touched by their wish, the nice neighbors offered them simple jobs, like regularly watering their flowers and walking their dogs.(运用了过去分词作状语) [高分句型3]Looking at the magazines, they were excited and picked up the latest. (运用了现在分词作状语) 听力1-5 ABCBA 6-10 CBBCB 11-15 CACCB 16-20 CAABA 原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究!6 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
