Disney finally has its first young plus-size heroine, and fans across the Internet are in high spirits.
“Reflect” is a short film now on Disney about a young ballet dancer named Bianca who struggles with her body image. In the short (短片), Bianca doesn’t want to but has to look at herself in the mirror, checking her posture. Always feeling depressed to find herself fatty and ugly, she almost gives up dancing ballet. Though body positivity and self-acceptance can be easier said than done, eventually, she overcome her negative feelings and dance freely.
Though the film was first released on the platform in September, many social media users are now celebrating “Reflect” as a win for representation among the young.
“16 year old me needed this Disney short before I quit ballet because I didn’t want to be the fat girl in class anymore,” one user on Twitter said. “I’m glad little ones (小朋友) will have this. 10/10 (10 分满分评级) for Reflect!” “I don’t think you all comprehend, this is my Ariel,” a TikTok user said in a video, titled “Disney, you really got me in my feelings.”
Making the film from the perspective of a dancer, director Hillary Bradfield explained, felt natural. “When people watch the short, I hope that they can feel more positively about themselves and how they look, and feel okay about the tough parts of their journey,” Bradfield said.
24. Which of the following best describes Bianca?
A. Sensitive. B. Ambitious. C. Warm-hearted. D. Energetic.
25. Why were the online comments of “Reflect” mentioned?
A. To tell the truth of the short. B. To show their favor to “Reflect”.
C. To give an explanation of “Reflect”. D. To make a comparison with other movies.
26. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Practice makes perfect. B. Don’t judge a book by its cover.
C. All that glitters is not gold. D. It’s self-acceptance that really counts.
7. In which section of a magazine can we read the passage?
A. Sport and health. B. Science and technology.
C. Movie and art. D. Travel and history.

Elephants may be known for their size and strength, but tourists who ride on their backs can still do great harm. A picture provided by the Wildlife Friends Foundation in Thailand (WFFT) shows Pai Lin, a 71-year-old female elephant whose back has become disfigured (变形) after 25 years of working in the tourism industry, where she was forced to carry up to six tourists at a time. Pai Lin’s back still bears scars from old pressure points. This continuous pressure on elephants’ bodies can deteriorate the bones on their back, causing long-lasting physical damage.
Pai Lin was abandoned (遗弃) by her previous owner, who felt that she was too slow and always in pain and couldn’t work well anymore.
Elephant rides are a popular tourist activity in countries across Southeast Asia, but activists say the practice is a form of animal abuse (虐待) as their bodies are not designed to be ridden. They say the animals are also often abused and exploited in other industries like long marching and logging, with many dying from exhaustion and hunger as they are really forced to work until death.
The group was sharing Pai Lin’s story to raise awareness about elephant abuse. Pai Lin is living out her days with 24 other rescued elephants in WFFT’s preserve near the seaside town of Hua Hin, about a 2.5-hour drive from Bangkok. She’s older now and has put on weight. But you can see the shape of her back very clearly—it’s a physical disfigurement she will have to live with, but she’s doing well.
The “old lady” enjoys having her own space. But she really enjoys being around the company of other elephants and likes attention from people. She does get moody (喜怒无常的) when it involves food but she is a very lovely elephant.
28. What does the underlined word “deteriorate” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Relax. B. Worsen. C. Balance. D. Strengthen.
29. Why did Pai Lin’s previous owner give her up?
A. She ate too much. B. She usually attacked tourists.
C. She was dying from illness. D. She was no longer fit for her job.
30. Which of the following agrees with the ideas of activists?
A. Elephants should help humans do what they can’t do.
B. Elephants should work in many fields except tourism.
C. Elephants should be ridden by fewer than 6 people.
D. Elephants should be better treated by people.
31. Which of the following can best describe the present Pai Lin?
A. Curious. B. Energetic. C. Friendly. D. Annoying.
D
Tai chi, a traditional, slow-moving form of Chinese martial art, is known to increase flexibility and improve balance. Now, new research suggests it’s better than more energetic aerobic exercises (有氧运动) for lowering blood pressure in people with prehypertension (高血压前期). Prehypertension is considered a warning sign that heart disease may be ahead, and it raises the risk of having a heart attack.
The new findings, published in the journal JAMA Network Open, add to a large body of research pointing to health benefits from tai chi.
In the study, researchers in China randomly assigned 342 adults with prehypertension to one of two interventions. The average age of participants was 49. Roughly half the people participated in aerobic exercises, including jogging, climbing stairs, brisk walking and cycling. The other half was trained to practice tai chi. Both groups got hour-long sessions four times a week.
After 12 months, those in the tai chi group saw bigger drops in their blood pressure than those in the aerobic exercise group. What’s more, nearly 22% of the people who practiced tai chi saw their blood pressure fall to within normal range, compared with nearly 16% of people in the aerobic exercise group. And fewer patients in the tai chi group went on to develop hypertension than in the aerobic exercise group.
How does tai chi help lower blood pressure? The practice tends to cause more of a response from the parasympathetic nervous system (副交感神经系统), says Ruth Taylor-Piliae, a professor at the University of Arizona’s College of Nursing, who was not involved in the study. The parasympathetic nervous system is the network of nerves that relaxes your body after periods of stress or danger.
“I think the beauty of tai chi is that you don’t have to have a special gym membership or special clothing,” Taylor-Piliae says. “Once you learn tai chi, you can do it anytime, anyplace, anywhere. And it does kind of provide that calming, relaxing effect.”
32. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. The result of the research. B. The process of the research.
C. The purpose of the research. D. The application of the research.
33. How does the author mainly organize Paragraph 4?
A By giving a definition. B. By providing examples.
C. By making comparisons. D. By presenting different opinions.
34. What is Taylor-Piliae’s attitude towards doing tai chi?
A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Negative. D. Unclear.
35. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. Tai chi Helps Relax Nervous People
B. Tai chi Helps People Prevent Prehypertension
C. Tai chi Plays a Crucial Role in Treating Patients
D. Tai chi Reduces Blood Pressure Better than Aerobic Exercise
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
In Stressful Times, Make Stress Work for You
These are stressful times. Fortunately, we can actually use that stress to improve our health and well-being. Over a decade of research suggests that it’s not the type or amount of stress that determines its impact. ____36____
Step 1: Acknowledge Your Stress
Labeling your stress consciously and deliberately moves neural activity from the amygdala — the center of emotion and fear — to the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for executive control and planning. In other words, when we take a moment to acknowledge our stress, it moves us from operating from a fearful, reactive place to a position where we can be thoughtful and deliberate. ____37____
Step 2: Own Your Stress
The next step is to welcome, or “own” your stress. We only stress about things that we care about. ____38____ Try completing this sentence about whatever was specifically stressing you out in step one: “I’m stressed about…because I deeply care about…”
Step 3: Use Your Stress
Connecting to the core values behind your stress sets you up for the third and most essential step: using or leveraging stress to achieve your goals and connect more deeply with the things that matter most.
Ask yourself: Are your typical responses in alignment with the values behind your stress? ____39____
There’s so much happening right now that we can’t control. ____40____ Some psychologists argue that true transformative change can occur only during stress or crises. The trick is to channel your coronavirus stress as energy to make the most of this time.
A. Think about how you might change your response to this stress to better facilitate your goals and your purpose.
B. You can release stress from the past and more with emotional focus techniques.
C. By owning our stress, we connect to the positive motivation or personal value behind our stress.
D. But — as many people are noticing — there are also unprecedented opportunities amid the fear.
E. Instead, it’s our mind-set about stress that matters most.
F. But later, we will be able to ask ourselves how we each responded to this crisis.
G. This step is also an opportunity to understand what’s at the heart of your personal stress or anxiety.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My Parents and I had been planning my brother’s birthday party since the beginning of March. Johnny would be six years old in two weeks. My mom was going to bake her special chocolate cake with white icing. As I watched her, I thought, “I wonder what I can do to make my brother’s birthday special.”
I knew my parents had already bought a present for me to give to Johnny, but I wanted to buy him something I had chosen myself and with the money I had saved. After giving it some thought, I wanted to buy him the paint-by-number kit (数字涂色小套装) I had seen at the store around the comer.
I decided to empty my coin jar (存钱罐) and see how much money I had saved. However, I was disappointed to find there was much less than I had imagined. “Oh, no, I only have about three dollars,” I muttered to myself. The set cost more than I had saved.
Suddenly a “great” idea occurred to me. I slid into my parents’ bedroom where my dad kept loose change (零钱) on top of the dresser (梳妆台). I stood on my tiptoes and saw some coins. I carefully counted out what I needed to make up the difference. “I'm sure Dad won't mind just this once,” I thought.
However, I was soon overcome by guilt (负罪感). Even though there was no one else in the bedroom, I felt like I was being watched. Mom was always telling us about the importance of honesty. Maybe my plan wasn't such a great idea after all. However, I still put all the change I found into my own pocket.
I slid out of my parents’ room and headed toward the door. “Where are you going, Arwen? ” Mom asked, “Oh, just up to the corner store,” I replied. “Well, don't stay out too long, Daddy will be home soon.” “Okay, Mom” I ran out of our house.
Once I got to the store, I took the paint-by-number kit from the shelf.
“Can I help you, young lady?” the saleswoman asked.
“No. I'm just looking, thank you,” I said.
“That's a really nice paint kit. We sell a lot of them and as you can see, that's the last one.” she said.

【答案】36. E 37. G 38. C 39. A 40. D

【58题详解】

第二节作文2(满分25分)
注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;
Paragraph 1:
I nodded my head in agreement, thinking hard.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
I would just have to wait until I saved the extra money I needed.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1:
I nodded my head in agreement, thinking hard. Finally, I decided to place the paint-by-number kit back on the shelf and headed home. Luckily, when I got home, Mom was busy talking on the phone and Dad wasn't back home yet, so I was able to slip past the kitchen without being noticed. I went to my parents' room to return the coins I had taken. I arranged them into a neat stack — just like they were before — and sighed with relief, knowing I had done the right thing.
Paragraph 2:
I would just have to wait until I saved the extra money I needed. The saleswoman had even agreed that she would keep the paint kit behind the counter for me until I had enough money to pay for it. I figured I could earn it by doing odd jobs around the house. Then I managed to earn the money I needed and bought the kit just one day before Johnny’s birthday. When opening the gift box at his birthday party, Johnny was wild with joy. “Thank you so much, Arwen.” Johnny said, “This kit is so special!” I smiled with content.
