Unit 5 Language Around the World Period 5 Reading for Writing 教学设计 开课老师:陈海燕 开课时间:2022年12月13日 主题语境:人与社会 语篇类型:post 授课时长:one lesson Content analysis The topic of this unit is "languages around the world”, which belongs to human and society. This section aims to develop students’ ability to logically write a blog, in which students should clearly state the problems they have during English learning and give advice in detail. The reading material is a short blog which talks about the biggest problems and advice on learning English. The part is for the teacher to get students to write about the biggest problems they have on studying English and to come up with some advice. After reading the material, students can perceive the organization and language expressions on writing a blog about English study problems and solutions. In the writing part, the material shows some expressions on stating the biggest problems and advice about English study. In addition, the material lists the checklist. Students can revise their writing according to the checklist. Analysis of the students The students for this lesson are in Senior one. They have a good command of writing an advice letter,because they have learned it in the previous unit, but they are poor in giving supporting details and identifying the structure of a blog. Before this lesson, they’ve already previewed the lesson and learned by themselves,they knew how to skim and scan for the main and specific information in reading material. In addition, they have written a post to reply to Li Rui based on their own understanding. However, they do not have enough knowledge on how to clearly state their biggest problems and their reasonable advice when writing a blog about English study and some of them even make a mistake by writing the post like a letter. Learning objectives By the end of the lesson, students will 1.Identify the structure and skills of writing passages about expressing problems and giving advice of a blog about English study. (Language competence) 2.Learn to independently summarize the problems and solutions. (Learning ability) 3.Polish your blog individually and in groups and share it after modification. (Thinking quality) Focal and difficult points How to make students describe problems clearly and use appropriate expressions in solutions. Especially, how to clearly describe the problems and give advice by adding some supporting details to make their writing vivid and convincing. Procedures 步骤 教学活动 设计意图 互动 时间 Warming up Step1 Teacher uses the KWL Chart to warm up and check what students know,what they want to know and what they have learned by previewing the text on their own and replying to the last post based on their own understanding. 1. Get students to recall what they have already learned. 2.Get students to expect what they can learn in this class. 5’ Motivating 情景创设 产生驱动 Step 2 1.Teacher shows the challenge to the students:Suppose you are Li Hua,you want to post on an online forum to give advice to Li Rui on building up vocabulary and express your biggest problem with learning English.How should you write the post? 2.Lead the students to find out what are included in a blog. 1.To motivate the students with a challenge. 2. Arouse their interest to learn the lesson. 3.have a clear understanding of the structure of a blog. 5’ Enabling分层指导 产出促成 Step 3 1.Students watch a video about Li Rui and answer the following questions. (1) Does she make her problem clearly? (2) How does she talk about her problem? (3)How does she finish speaking? 2.Read Liu Wei’s words and Jia Xin’s words and find out how they state their problems. How do they make problem description clear? Can you brainstorm more useful expressions to describe problems and ask for help. 3.Ask students to self-edit their problems according to the structure. 4.(1)Ask the students to listen to the video and answer: How do studentC and studentD give advice? What needs to be improved? Ask students to make a comparision: (2) Read the text on P66 and find out how do Jia Xin and Li Rui give advice. (3)Read again and find out the expressions Jia Xin and Li Rui use to show their advice.How to express your advice? Can you brainstorm more useful expressions of giving advice? Which one give the clear and convincing advice,students C and D or Jia Xin and Li Rui? (4)Ask the students to self -edit their advice according to the requirements. (5)Ask students to fill in the blanks to find the structure of the blog . 1. Make students know how to express a problem clearly. 2. Enable students to polish their blogs individually according to the requirements. 3. Make students know how to give convincing advice. 23’ Activity 3 Assessing任务展示,产出评价 Step 4 1. Teacher shows a student’s blog and makes a comment on it according to the check list. 2.Students Exchange drafts. Assess each other's work according to the checklist and then Teacher asks one of them to show his/her assessment to the class. 3.Teacher has a summary about how to reply to a post. Make Students assess individually on each other’s writing and share it after modification. 10’ Homework 1.
