But there is one exception, which is famous for its incredible heat. This is the “Flaming Mountain” in China’s northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Of course, it is not really “burning”. The mountain is barren and red, with a blackish tint (色调). In summer, ground temperatures can be as high as 70-degrees Celsius. People are tricked by their senses into seeing “flames”. The terrain(地形) is the main reason for the heat of the Flaming Mountain. It is located at the low point of the Turpan Basin which is also the lowest point of the Chinese mainland. The height difference between it and the surrounding mountains is more than 5000 meters, so the hot air in the basin cannot easily go away in different directions. As a result, the Flaming Mountain becomes the hottest place on its latitude. If one goes north from the county seat of Turpan, following what is known as the Road of Grapes for some 20 km, one reaches a deep valley at the foot of the Flaming Mountain. There is no grass on the Flaming Mountain, but this canyon nearby is shaded by grapes. The deep valley is only 8 kilometers long from north to south, but its annual output of grapes can reach more than 10 million kg. Almost every family here grows grapes. After harvest, they are sent to shade houses for drying. The shade houses are built on the slopes of barren mountains, high up and with no shelter, so as to make full use of the hot dry winds in the Turpan Basin. There are many holes in the walls of the shade houses which not only help with ventilation (通风), but also help avoid direct sunlight on grapes. It takes just 40 days for the fresh grapes to be dried by the hot air. 24. The underlined word “barren” in Paragraph 2 most probably means _______. A. high and steep B. bare and poor C. grassy and flourishing D. burning and flaming 25. Why is Flaming Mountain the hottest place on its latitude? A. Because it is in flames. B. Because there is no grass on it. C. Because of its special latitude. D. Because of its special terrain. 26. What do we know about the shade houses? A. Almost every family has a shade house. B. They can house more than 10 million kg grapes. C. They are specially built to dry the fresh grapes. D. The holes in their walls allow wind and sunlight in. 27. The passage is most likely taken from _______. A. a science report B. a tourist brochure C. a public advertisement D. a geographical documentary 【答案】24. B 25. D 26. C 27. 根据文章第三段的“The terrain(地形) is the main reason for the heat of the Flaming Mountain. It is located at the low point of the Turpan Basin which is also the lowest point of the Chinese mainland. The height difference between it and the surrounding mountains is more than 5000 meters, so the hot air in the basin cannot easily go away in different directions.”(地形是火焰山炎热的主要原因。 根据文章最后一段的“It takes just 40 days for the fresh grapes to be dried by the hot air.”(新鲜的葡萄只需要40天就可以被热风晒干。) 根据全文内容以及第一段的“Areas around the latitude(纬度)of 42 degrees north on earth are mostly known for their cool and pleasant climate. But there is one exception, which is famous for its incredible heat. This is the “Flaming Mountain” in China’s northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.”(地球上北纬42度附近的地区以气候凉爽宜人而闻名。 D。 C I remember the day Dad first took the violin home, and gathered my mother and me in the living room. If my thin smile didn’t match his smile, it was because I had prayed for a guitar or a piano. Then Dad announced that I would start lessons the following week. One day, I found a violin case. “It’s your father’s.” Mom said. “His parents bought it for him. He got too busy on the farm to play it.” Shortly after, my lessons began with Mr. Zelli. Confirmed I got fine for the first lesson, Dad glowed with hope. Though ordered to practice half an hour every day for a concert, I tried to get out of it. My future seemed to be without playing ball. Sometimes I could hear my friends outside playing heated games. “I don’t want to play a solo,” I shouted to my father. “You didn’t get to play your violin when you were a kid. So why should I?” Dad pointed at me, “Because you can bring people joy. You can touch their hearts. That’s a gift I won’t let you throw away.” He added softly, “Someday you’ll have the chance I never had: you will play the beautiful music for your family. And you’ll understand why you’ve worked so hard.” I had rarely heard Dad speak with such feeling about anything. From then on, I practiced without my parents’ making me. Finally, I finished my solo performing without a mistake. After the concert Mom and Dad came backstage. The way they walked — heads high, faces flushed — I knew they were pleased. As the years went by, I had my own family. I brought the violin to my home and put it in the attic. There it remained a dusty memory, until one afternoon many years later, my two children discovered it by accident. When I opened the case, they urged, “Play it, play it.” Surprised, I found my skills hadn’t rusted away. Soon the kids were dancing in circles and giggling. Even my wife Terri was laughing and clapping to the beat. I finally knew what it meant to work hard and sacrifice for others. Dad had been right: the most precious gift is to touch the hearts of those who you love. It took me almost 30 years to discover the legacy. 28. What’s the author’s first reaction to the violin? A. He smiled and treasured it. B. He was not ready to accept it. C. He disbelieved it. D. He was keen on it. 29. Which of the following can best describe my Dad’s personality? A. Wise and persistent. B. Mean and stubborn. C. Rich and wasteful. D. Reluctant and odd. 30. When did the author understand his father’s message of playing the instrument? A. Before the solo performance. B. With his companions’ tease. C. With his parents’ growing old. D. With his children’s discovery of the instrument. 31. What’s the main idea of the passage? A. The hard way to becoming a musician. B. Losing and getting the sense of music. C. Delighting loved ones is what music is about. D. Music is the cure for pain. B 29. A 30. D 31. 根据第一段“If my thin smile didn’t match his smile, it was because I had prayed for a guitar or a piano.(如果我单薄的笑容与他的笑容不符,那是因为我祈求得到一把吉他或一架钢琴)”可知,作者对小提琴的第一反应是他还没准备好接受。 根据第三段“Though ordered to practice half an hour every day for a concert, I tried to get out of it.(虽然为了参加音乐会,我被要求每天练习半小时,但我还是设法不去练习)”以及最后一段“I finally knew what it meant to work hard and sacrifice for others. Dad had been right: the most precious gift is to touch the hearts of those who you love. It took me almost 30 years to discover the legacy.(我终于明白了为他人努力工作和牺牲的意义。爸爸说得对:最珍贵的礼物就是感动你所爱的人的心。我花了将近30年的时间才发现这些遗产)”可知,父亲坚持让作者练习,并且作者最后明白了父亲的苦心,说明父亲明智而执着。故选A。 根据倒数第二段“There it remained a dusty memory, until one afternoon many years later, my two children discovered it by accident. When I opened the case, they urged, “Play it, play it.” Surprised, I found my skills hadn’t rusted away. Soon the kids were dancing in circles and giggling. Even my wife Terri was laughing and clapping to the beat.(直到多年后的一个下午,我的两个孩子偶然发现了它。 根据最后一段“I finally knew what it meant to work hard and sacrifice for others. Dad had been right: the most precious gift is to touch the hearts of those who you love. It took me almost 30 years to discover the legacy.(我终于明白了为他人努力工作和牺牲的意义。爸爸说得对:最珍贵的礼物就是感动你所爱的人的心。我花了将近30年的时间才发现这些遗产)”结合讲述了作者的父亲让作者学习小提琴,而作者并不乐意,直到某一次作者情绪爆发,得知父亲坚持要作者拉小提琴是因为她将有机会为家人演奏音乐。此后,作者懂得了父亲的深意。可知,这篇文章的主旨是音乐的意义在于取悦所爱的人。故选C。 D Are your keys not in the spot you thought you left them? Can’t recall the title of a book? I’ve had those moments. Such instances of “brain freeze” remind us that we should do everything in our power to keep our brains sharp. A new study finds Tai Chi can help slow cognitive (认知的) decline and protect against dementia (痴呆). The study included about 300 older adults, in their mid-70s on average, who had all reported that their memory was not as good as it used to be. As part of the study, all the participants took a 10-minute test called the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. A normal score is 26-30. A person who scores between 18 and 25 is considered to have mild impairment (损害), which means they don’t have dementia but they’re not as sharp as they used to be and may need to work harder to maintain everyday activities. Once their score drops under 18, people experience quite a bit of impairment from memory loss and cognitive decline. The average score of participants at the start of the study was 25. The study found that people who practiced a simplified form of Tai Chi twice a week for about six months improved their score by 1.5 points, meaning that they’re going to get three extra years before they hit that decline into dementia. Researchers also tested a stricter type of Tai Chi, called Cognitively Enhanced Tai Chi, where they provided extra challenges. For example, participants were asked to spell a word, backward and forward, as they moved through a series of Tai Chi moves. The people who practice this type of cognitively enhanced Tai Chi improved their scores by about 3 points, meaning they are given six extra years of cognitive function. The theory on why Tai Chi is effective is that it combines the memorization of the movements, known as forms, almost like composing dancing moves. 32. Why are two questions raised in the first paragraph? A. To present the author’s doubts. B. To expect answers from readers. C. To analyze the causes of forgetfulness. D. To introduce the main topic of the text. 33. What is the third paragraph mainly about? A. Cognitive assessment methods. B. The process of running the test. C. Cognitive measurement criteria. D. The test results of the participants. 34. What do we know about the “Cognitively Enhanced Tai Chi” ? A. It was more helpful. B. It was much easier. C. It took more time. D. It included less moves. 35. Why does Tai Chi have a positive impact? A. It helps deal with challenges. B. It involves mind-body movements. C. It puts off cognitive decline by three years. D. It improves the participants’ academic level. D 33. C 34. A 35. 根据第一段“Such instances of “brain freeze” remind us that we should do everything in our power to keep our brains sharp.(这些“大脑冻结”的例子提醒我们,我们应该尽我们所能保持我们的大脑敏锐)”和第二段的“A new study finds Tai Chi can help slow cognitive (认知的) decline and protect against dementia (痴呆).(一项新研究发现太极拳有助于减缓认知衰退和预防痴呆)”可推知,文章开头的两个问题是为了引出“练太极拳有助于减缓认知衰退和预防痴呆”这个主题。 根据第三段“As part of the study, all the participants took a 10-minute test called the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. A normal score is 26-30. A person who scores between 18 and 25 is considered to have mild impairment (损害), which means they don’t have dementia but they’re not as sharp as they used to be and may need to work harder to maintain everyday activities. Once their score drops under 18, people experience quite a bit of impairment from memory loss and cognitive decline.(作为研究的一部分,所有参与者都参加了一个名为蒙特利尔认知评估的10分钟测试。正常的分数是26-30。得分在18到25分之间的人被认为有轻度损伤,这意味着他们没有痴呆症,但他们不像以前那么敏锐,可能需要更加努力地来维持日常活动,一旦他们的得分降至18分以下,人们经历相当多的记忆丧失和认知能力下降的损害)”可知,本段主要内容是认知测量标准。故选C项。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“The people who practice this type of cognitively enhanced Tai Chi improved their scores by about 3 points, meaning they are given six extra years of cognitive function.(练习这种增强认知能力的太极拳的人得分提高了约3分,这意味着他们的认知功能多了6年)”可知,“认知增强太极拳”更有帮助。故选A项。 根据最后一段“The theory on why Tai Chi is effective is that it combines the memorization of the movements, known as forms, almost like composing dancing moves.(为什么太极拳有效的理论是,它结合了动作的记忆,几乎像编排舞蹈动作)”可知,太极之所以起到积极作用是因为它涉及身心运动。 You know exercise is good for you, but do you know how good? Due to her father’s recent job change, she and her family had moved across the country to a new town and a new neighborhood. She didn’t even want to get out of bed. Getting up meant going to school. She didn’t know a soul. She had no friends here. Who would she talk to? Who would she hang out with? This would not be a good day, she thought to herself. After a quick breakfast, she grabbed her things and headed down the street to the corner where the bus would pick her up. In the distance, she could see two girls laughing about something. As Theresa got closer, the girls shot a brief look at her way and then continued on with their conversation. Finally the bus arrived. Theresa stepped on and sat alone. The ride seemed rather long until the bus pulled up in front of the school. Theresa climbed off the bus with no idea where to go. The school was much bigger than her old one. She had made it through the whole morning. But now it’s lunch time, and she was keenly aware of the fact that she had no one to sit and dine with. She found a place alone in the corner and sat down with lunch. Just as she started to eat, she saw two girls approaching. They were the girls from the bus stop. “Do you mind if we join you?” said the one in front. “Mind? Please sit with me!” Theresa thought and quickly replied,“not at all.” _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ For Theresa, the ride home was quite a bit different from the bus trip that morning. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 “Mind? Please sit with me!” Theresa thought and quickly replied, “not at all.” “This is usually where we sit for lunch, and since we saw you at the bus stop this morning, it must be fate or something,” said the other girl. “Maybe we’re supposed to be friends.” Theresa also expressed her willingness to be their friends. And with that, new friendships were formed. Through the whole lunch they chatted about their classes and giggling about various stories. The three girls agreed to head home together at the end of the day as they parted for the afternoon class. For Theresa, the ride home was quite a bit different from the bus trip that morning. She now had people to sit with and new friends to talk to. She was not alone any more. The time went by much more quickly than the ride to school in that morning. The girls talked and laughed the entire way back to their neighborhood. They got off the bus and began the walk to their own houses. One by one, they said their goodbyes and exchanged quick hugs followed by a “See you tomorrow.” 词汇激活 行为类 ①表达:express/extend ②看见:see/spot ③回家:head home/go back home 情绪类 ①孤单:alone/lonely ②意愿:willingness/will 【点睛】[高分句型1] One by one, they said their goodbyes and exchanged quick hugs followed by a “See you tomorrow.”(运用了过去分词作状语) [高分句型2] This is usually where we sit for lunch, and since we saw you at the bus stop this morning, it must be fate or something (运用了since引导原因状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null 2023~2024学年第二学期期末试卷 高二英语 第一部分 听力 (共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 Why are the speakers unable to go on vacation twice this year? B Areas around the latitude (纬度) of 42 degrees north on earth are mostly known for their cool and pleasant climate. But there is one exception, which is famous for its incredible heat. This is the “Flaming Mountain” in China’s northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Of course it is not really “burning”. 27 The passage is most likely taken from _______. A. a science report B. a tourist brochure C. a public advertisement D. a geographical documentary C I remember the day Dad first took the violin home, and gathered my mother and me in the living room. As the years went by I had my own family. A. You know exercise is good for you, but do you know how good? _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
