Unit 1 Back to school 单元话题阅读理解练习 (23-24高一上·江苏南京·阶段练习)The introduction of the iPad, with its touch screen technology, has allowed even very young children to take advantage of a computer. So what if all children in a school were given an iPad to use in class and take home with them? Anne Laure Bazin works in a school where every child, teacher and teaching assistant is given a free iPad to use in and out of lessons. For her, the main advantage of everyone having an iPad has been the improvement in communication. Documents (文件) can be emailed straight over to co-workers during a meeting. Children can submit their homework by email, or through other terminals used on their iPads instead of giving it straight to the teachers. Teachers now take the register using their iPad, which means that there is a centralized record of which children are in school, and which classroom they are in. The use of iPads has encouraged greater sharing of resources among teachers. All communication with parents is now done by email. Working as a group in class is much easier as children can share documents. The whole class can look at one child’s work by attaching the iPad to the whiteboard. If a child has forgotten the textbook, the teacher can take a photograph of the relevant (相关的) page and send it to the student in class. While the use of the iPad in schools has revolutionized (变革) the way children are taught, it hasn’t completely replaced more traditional methods of teaching. Worksheets are still used in class as some children prefer the contact with paper. The children all have a textbook and exercise books. In Anne Laure’s school, parents feared that the iPads would replace exercise books and children would lose handwriting skills. Anne Laure says, “The teachers are not ready to let go of the traditional style of teaching. We have welcomed the iPads in so much as they help communication and widen the resources available (可得到的) but we are not ready to let go of paper yet. The children themselves still value their exercise books and depend on them for revision. ” 1.What does the underlined word “submit” in the second paragraph mean? A.Clean up. B.Concentrate on. C.Write down. D.Hand in. 2.What is an advantage of using iPads in the classroom? A.It saves students bringing the textbooks. B.It reduces parents’ worry about teaching. C.It improves the relationship between teachers. D.It makes sharing information convenient. 3.What is parents’ attitude towards the use of iPads in the classroom in Annie’s school? A.Worried. B.Uncaring. C.Annoyed. D.Supportive. 4.What is the main idea of the last paragraph? A.Teachers prefer traditional methods of teaching. B.The iPads won’t take the place of printed materials. C.More and more schools are using iPads. D.Exercise books are more valuable now. (22-23高一上·江苏苏州·阶段练习)Fun things to do in high school Learn another language Your school might be holding foreign languages classes, so this is a great way to start your language learning journey! If you want more self-paced learning, apps like Duolingo are easily accessible (可使用的) on our mobile phones. As our world becomes more interconnected, it’s always good to learn another language or two. Aim for a semester (学期) of straight A This can be a difficult task but not impossible to achieve, as long as you put in the right amount of work and effort. If you are struggling(挣扎)with your grades, you can host or join group studies with your classmates! Don’t be disheartened if you are not able to get an A in a semester. What’s important is having the drive to go forward. As a famous person once said, “He who would climb a ladder must begin at the bottom. Experience another culture Culture and tradition are something that all humans share. No matter where we come from, we always bring our culture with us. People coming from different cultures may be among your friends or neighbors. You can go to a museum, read a book, or try new food in your area. Remember to keep an open mind and take the time to learn about them. Bring a shareable treat to class If you know your way around the kitchen, you can impress your class by making and bringing them a delicious treat! Not only will this make their stomachs happy, but you’ll also bond (联系) the whole class together. Just don’t forget to check with your teacher first before bringing one. 5.What should you do if you want to learn a language at your own speed? A.Go to a museum to read books. B.Attend another language class. C.Learn it on an app like Duolingo. D.Join group studies with your classmates. 6.What’s the key if you can’t get an A in a semester? A.Keeping an open mind. (23-24高一上·江苏宿迁·期中)I know that some of you are still adjusting to being back at school. But I’m here today because I have something important to discuss with you. I’m here because I want to talk with you about your education and what’s expected of all of you in this new school year. And this isn’t just important for your own life and your own future. What you make of your education will decide nothing less than the future of this country. The future of our country depends on you. What you’re learning in school today will determine whether we as a nation can meet our greatest challenges in the future. You’ll need the knowledge and problem-solving skills you learn in science and math to cure diseases like cancer and to develop new energy technologies and protect our environment. You’ll need the insights and critical-thinking skills you gain in history and social studies to build our country. You’ll need the creativity and ingenuity you develop in all your classes to build new companies that will create new jobs and boost our economy. We need every single one of you to develop your talents and your skills and your intellect so you can help us old folks solve our most difficult problems. The circumstances of your life — what you look like, where you come from, how much money you have, what you’ve got going on at home — none of that is an excuse for neglecting your homework or having a bad attitude in school. That’s no excuse for talking back to your teacher, or cutting class, or dropping out of school. There is no excuse for not trying. Where you are right now doesn’t have to determine where you’ll end up. No one’s written your future for you, because here in our country, you write your own future. You make your own future. Whatever you resolve to do, I want you to commit to it. I want you to really work at it. 8.What can we learn from the first two paragraphs? A.Students adjust to their new schools easily. B.Students wish they could be still on holiday. C.Students decide to live up to their expectations. D.Students influence the future of the whole country. 9.Which skill should students have is not mentioned in paragraph 3? A.Problem solving. B.Creativity. C.Critical thinking. D.Independent thinking. 10.What does the speech mainly focus on? A.Opportunities in creating new jobs. B.Great challenges in this new school year. C.The strategies of protecting environment. D.The responsibilities for students’ own education. 11.What should you do in your new school year according to the speaker? A.Talk back to our teachers at all time. B.Have a negative attitude in school occasionally. C.Devote ourselves to whatever we are intended to do. D.Make excuses for neglecting homework if necessary. (23-24高一上·江苏宿迁·期中)Welcome to our school. Now let's take a look at some interesting school publications(出版物). Columbus It is our literary magazine; the name shows the place where we live. Editorial training includes developing skills for critical evaluation of student creative writing. Published twice yearly, many student contributors are also recognized as Scholastic Writing Awards winners. Diversion It is our language publication. Diversion is often used by our language teachers in the classroom as well. The Bruner It is Trinity's yearbook. Serving the entire school, it is a yearly testament(证明)to the many aspects of Trinity life. Editorial positions are named in May, allowing editors to attend a two-day summer conference at NYU. This conference allows students to develop their capability to acquire knowledge before the start of the school year. Work on the yearbook begins immediately thereafter, as students work to create an impressive K-12 publication. The Trinity Times It is the upper school newspaper, written, edited, photographed and produced entirely by students as an after-school activity. (23-24高一下·江苏扬州·期中)Some educators are trying to draw students’ attention with technology, such as educational videos, computer gaming and AI, just to name a few. However, teachers using these tools often struggle to keep students focusing on the materials, competing with the latest social media phenomenon, and can feel limited by using them to get some knowledge across. Graphic novels (图画小说) offering graphic information married with text provide a means of attracting students in the classroom. Educators have used this method in their teaching. For example, instead of filling out problem sheets, students in a math class were asked to read a story called Who Killed Professor X?. In this story, all of the suspects (嫌疑人) are famous mathematicians. As they tried to figure out the connections between the suspects, students often forgot that they were doing math — focusing instead on finding secret details to solve the problem. Although this is just one experience for these students, it improves their confidence and shows them how math can be fun. Jason Ho, a professor at Marian University, uses Max the Demon Vs Entropy of Doom to teach his physics students about a topic. This topic can be particularly difficult for some students because they can’t physically touch something. Ho said graphic novels can create an attractive learning environment. Most of his students now understand the subject by getting clear explanations for some ideas. Although the Internet offers a lot of math and physics resources (资源), it can be tiring to search through many hours of videos to find the perfect one to get the “aha!” moment in learning. Graphic novels provide a starting point with different specific topics. Want to learn about programming? Try the Secret Coders series. Need more female role models in science? Astronauts: Women on the Final Frontier could be just what you’re looking for. With all that graphic novels offer, we believe that the right set of graphic novels can inspire future scientists as much as any single person can. 15.What problem are some teachers faced with? A.Teaching students to learn self-control. B.Helping students master high-tech knowledge. C.Ensuring the teaching effectiveness of using technology. D.Making all the students take an active part in learning. 16.What is mentioned about graphic novels? A.They can make learning more enjoyable. B.They serve the field of math the best. C.They require students to learn through performance. D.They lead students to work hard on problem sheets. 17.What is probably Jason Ho’s attitude towards teaching with graphic novels? A.Surprised. B.Doubtful. C.Supportive. D.Concerned. 18.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A.Graphic novels suitable for students B.The great popularity of graphic novels C.How technology influences students’ learning D.Why we should use graphic novels in teaching (23-24高一上·云南昆明·期中)The first week of September was a week that I had been expecting (期待) all summer. I didn’t want summer to end, but I was excited about going to high school for my first week. When I got to school in the morning on the first day, I realized how large the school was, and how many students went there. I ended up in the wrong classroom because of the size of the school. Luckily, a kind senior showed up and guided me to my homeroom before I was late. I was happy to see that in a class of unfamiliar (不熟悉的) faces, the only open seat was next to my good friend Casey. My science teacher seemed like a good teacher. She was exciting and fun. After finishing four classes without too much of a challenge, I didn’t feel too bad about ninth grade. However, the fifth class changed everything. I didn’t feel ready after all. My teacher’s name is Mr. Valassidis but he told us to call him Mr. V. Mr. V told us that we would have to write 40 essays (文章) and read AP-level books such as The Odyssey this year. I love reading and writing. But come on. 40 ESSAYS? AP-level books? Now I was afraid. The courses in high school seem like they’re going to get much harder, but they haven’t yet. Even though my classes look hard, they look really exciting too. The first week passed quickly. Although a lot of things were overwhelming (令人不知所措的): the size of the campus, the crowds (人群) and the seniors, having a totally different experience than I had ever had before was really exciting. Now, I’m really happy about high school. I have lots of friends in my classes, I really like my teachers and I’m meeting new people. 19.How did the author feel when his high school life was about to start? A.Happy. B.Nervous. C.Relaxed. D.Helpless. 20.What happened to the author on his first day of high school? A.He was late for class. B.He was praised by Mr. V. C.He got lost on the campus. D.He met Casey for the first time. 21.What made the author afraid? A.The strict rules in classes. B.How his science teacher behaved. C.What he was expected to do with his studies. D.The reading homework on the first day of high school. 22.Which of the following can best describe the author’s first week of high school? A.Hard and unexpected. B.Busy but eye-opening. C.Tiring but meaningful. D.Different and exciting. (23-24高一上·山东青岛·期末)Imagine a school where students are taught by the best teachers in every subject, regardless of location. Imagine a school where students could go on safe field trips to the Amazon rainforest or Everest base camp. Well, such schools are already being built: in virtual(虚拟的)reality. Last year, Optima Academy Online, an all-virtual school, delivered courses that aim to improve the hearts and train the minds of young people. These courses are of different levels, attracting 170 full-time students from all over Florida. In the progress of home-schooling, students use headsets for about three hours a day for formal lessons and then do course work independently with digital check-ins. Future versions(版本)of VR will doubtless be widely used in education, but the only questions are: for what purpose and at what speed? There are enough reasons to doubt whether VR schools represent the future of education. Sticking a child in their bedroom with a heavy VR headset fastened to their face and no physical social interaction with other kids will fill many of them and their parents with horror. A recent report concluded that digital education could significantly improve the quality and equality of schooling systems. But if managed poorly, it could have the opposite effect, turning a digital divide into an educational one. There is growing evidence to suggest that is happening. In Mexico, only 24 percent of 15-year-old students in poor schools have access(使用)to a home computer for schoolwork compared with 87 percent in rich ones. Used properly, technology can be great for enabling self-motivated students to access learning resources and connect with fellow students and teachers all over the world, says Beeban Kidron, a member of the UK’s Digital Futures Commission. The trouble is that Edtech is too often seen as a shiny new toy that will solve all problems and save money rather than being viewed as a different way to learn, she adds. 23.What can we learn about Optima Academy Online? A.It has been widely accepted. B.It holds faraway outdoor field trips. C.It provides various online courses. D.It requires parents to help with check-ins. 24.What does paragraph 3 focus on about VR in education? A.The development. B.The concerns. C.The advantages. D.The popularity. 25.Students in Mexico are mentioned to show________. A.Mexican schooling quality has been improved B.local schooling systems are not fully developed C.technology access gaps may cause education inequality D.family backgrounds shape people’s views on education 26.What does Beeban Kidron think of digital education? A.It enriches learning. B.It’s irreplaceable. C.It needs improving. D.It’s undervalued. (23-24高一上·浙江杭州·阶段练习)Tyler was a troublesome student, who sat in the back row of the classroom. Every time I called him to answer questions, he’d reply with a flip (轻率的) answer. If he got it wrong, he would get very angry. Usually kids could sit quietly in class. However, Tyler was just loud. One day, Tyler was talking while I was teaching. I said to him, “Tyler, why not join in our discussion instead of having one of your own?” He got up from his chair, pushed it over, and shouted something I can’t remember. I sent him to the office and he received a week’s out-of-school punishment. The week was a wonderful time for me without the noisy Tyler, but when it came to an end, I began to feel worried. So I came up with a plan. On the day of his return, I told him I wanted to start over with him. If he felt like he was going to lose control in class, he could step outside the door for a moment. From then on, Tyler was a changed student in my classroom. In fact he was a smart child and he even stopped a fight between two students one day. And he never used the privilege (特权) to leave the class for moment. I believe that just letting him decide for himself made all the difference. When the school year was over, he wrote me a thank-you note about how good the year had been for him. I still have it today and find it very moving to reread when I get stressed about teaching. 27.When Tyler was talking in class, what did the teacher advise him to do? A.go out of school B.have his own discussion C.join in their discussion D.raise his hand and wait for his turn to speak 28.Tyler did all the following things EXCEPT_________. A.leaving the class for a moment B.sitting in the back row C.stopping a fight between two students D.not listening to teachers in class 29.What is the main idea of the passage? A.How the teacher felt about Tyler’s thank-you note B.How the teacher dealt with Tyler’s return C.How Tyler got the punishment D.How Tyler changed to be a good student (23-24高一上·山西吕梁·期末)What a day! I started at my new school this morning and had the best time. I made lots of new friends and really liked my teachers. I was nervous the night before, but I had no reason to be. Everyone was so friendly and polite. They made me feel at ease. It was like I’d been at the school for a hundred years! The day started very early at 7:00 am. I had my breakfast downstairs with my mom. She could tell that I was very nervous. Mom kept asking me what was wrong. She told me I had nothing to worry about and that everyone was going to love me. If they didn’t love me, Mom said to send them her way for a good talking to. I couldn’t stop laughing. My mom dropped me off at the school gate about five minutes before the bell. A little blonde girl got dropped off at the same time and started waving (招手) at me. She ran over and told me her name was Abigail. She was very nice and we became close straight away. We spent all morning together and began to talk to another girl called Stacey. The three of us sat together in class all day and we even made our way home together! It went so quickly. Our teacher told us that tomorrow we would really start learning and developing new skills. I cannot wait until tomorrow and feel as though I am really going to enjoy my time at my new school. I only hope that my new friends feel the same way too. 30.How did the author feel on the first day of her new school? A.Exhausted. B.Relaxed. C.Worried.
