B After more than 2 months trapped in a collapsed copper (铜) and gold mine in the desert, all of 33 Chilean miners (矿工) were rescued Wednesday. With ingenuity and cutting-edge technology, the men have survived for 69 days, some 700 meters underground fending off hunger, anxiety and illness in a record-setting feat of survival. How did they survive the ordeal? Have a close look. Before the miners were reached, they survived for 17 days on food already stored in the emergency shelter. They rationed themselves to 2 spoonfuls of tuna, half a cookie and a half-full glass of milk every 48 hours. Then a 6-inch diameter bore hole allowed food and water supplies to be sent down to the mine. Doctors then put the men on a solid diet of meat and rice, with a strict 2,200-calorie limit to keep them slim enough to fit in the evacuation shaft, which is just 66cm in diameter. Yonny Barrios Rojas, 50, used knowledge gained on a nursing course he attended to administer medicine to the group and perform daily health checks. “I was with God and I was with the devil. They fought and God won,” Mario Sepulveda, the second to be rescued, told CNN. He said he grabbed God’s hand and never doubted that he would be rescued. 24.What can we learn about the miners from the passage? A.The miners were trapped in the mine in the desert on Wednesday. B.The miners survived for 69 days on the food stored in the emergency shelter. C.The miners were rescued after more than two months trapped. D.Doctor Yonny Barrios Rojas administered medicine to the group and made daily health checks. 25.Why did doctor limit the calorie intake of the miners? A.Because the food was limited. B.Because the food had been eaten up already. C.Because the miners couldn’t eat too much due to their bad condition. D.Because the miners must be slim enough to get into the evacuation shaft. 26.What were the keys to the miners’ rescue? A.Intelligence and advanced technology. B.Luck and Persistence. C.Courage and wisdom. D.Experiences and bravery. 27.What’s the best title for the passage? A.Miners trapped in a mine B.Miners survival miracle C.A collapsed copper and gold mine D.A rescue mission C Our two-year investigation into caged (关在笼中) tigers in America sent us through 32 US states—with some truly shocking experiences. But as the deadline neared, I still needed a powerful and hopeful image. When we began our reporting in 2017—Sharon, writing; me taking photos; and our son, NickRuggia, filming—more tigers likely lived in cages in the US than remained in the wild. The number ranged from 5,000 to 10,000, but without strict government oversight, no one knew for sure. Roadside zoos that allowed tourists to take pictures of young tigers were the main cause of what’s been called a US tiger crisis (危机). Caged cats often ended up in the illegal wildlife trade. Young tigers, parted from their mothers at birth, were fed poorly and touched by hundreds of people. When they grew too big and dangerous to pet at around 12 weeks, young tigers were put on show, or simply disappeared. While we documented the unpleasant part of this industry, we also wanted to show the good life these impressive animals could have. With two weeks left before my deadline, I headed to the Wild Animal Sanctuary near Denver, where well-cared cats walked freely in their habitat. There I met Clay, Daniel, and Enzo, three of 39 tigers rescued from an animal park in Oklahoma. These nearly grown cats raced beside our car, which I’d seen only in the wild. It was a hot July day and soon two of the cats jumped into a pool to cool off. The third rested beside them on the ground. I crossed the road to take a picture of them. Then quietly, I came up close, trying not to disturb (打扰) them. I had the shot. 28.Why did the author start her reporting? A.To dig out the dark truth of caged tigers. B.To explore the amazing land in the country. C.To tell people that baby tigers are harmless. D.To share the happy moment during the trip. 29.What is the main cause of the US tiger crisis according to the text? A.Forest fires. B.Climate change. C.Roadside zoos. D.Water pollution. 30.What can we learn about these young tigers from paragraph 3? A.They prefer to stay indoors. B.They are badly treated. C.They get used to the changes. D.They are traded legally. 31.What is the author’s purpose in mentioning the Wild Animal Sanctuary? A.To praise her family for their effort. B.To explain what the animals suffered. C.To introduce a special kind of tigers. D.To show some tigers lead an easy life. D The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s longest reef, measuring 2,027 km. Running parallel(平行的) to the coast of Queensland, Australia, the reef is home to many species of fish. The Great Barrier Reef took thousands of years to form, and has existed for thousands of years, but in just a few short decades we humans have made remarkable progress in killing it. The balance of this ecosystem is being destroyed. Poisonous coastal pollution, overfishing and unsustainable tourism all contribute to the damage done. However, the biggest threat of all is climate change, which causes coral bleaching (珊瑚白化) and other problems. Coral bleaching is a process that causes coral to turn white in color when exposed to certain stressors, such as changes in temperature or light. As water temperatures rise due to climate change, the algae (海藻) living inside coral becomes poisonous and is expelled from the coral, causing it to lose its color and a major source of food. Not only do the algae produce coral’s color, they also provide 90%of the coral’s energy. Thus, without the algae, most corals will die. Unfortunately, coral bleaching events are now occurring at an alarming rate. Mass coral bleaching events in the Great Barrier Reef have been recorded in 1998, 2002, 2006, 2016, 2017 and 2020, and they are now expected to become an annual occurrence. The Great Barrier Reef is believed to have lost over 50% of its corals since 1995 and as global warming continues, this number will continue to increase rapidly. In 2015, the Australian government formed a plan for the protection and preservation of the Great Barrier Reef until 2050. While the plan contains many great aims to improve water quality and restore the reef, there are no measures to deal with the root cause of the issue-climate change. Solving the most important problem of our generation will require many solutions, such as supporting the use of renewable energy, keeping fossil fuels in the ground, protecting forests, reducing plastic production and preventing unsustainable business practices. Repairing the damage done to the Great Barrier Reef—and other ecosystems around the world—will be no easy job, but we believe that individuals, businesses and governments will make a change and then there will be hope in the future. 32.What can we know about the Great Barrier Reef? A.It is a lifeless coral reef structure. B.It has the most preserved ecosystem. C.It is a threat to the survival of human. D.It has been affected by various factors. 33.What does the underlined word “expelled” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A.Taken out. B.Given away. C.Driven out. D.Washed away. 34.What can be inferred from paragraph 4? A.Coral reefs are experiencing growth. B.The loss of corals is expected to decrease. C.Coral bleaching takes place more frequently. D.The government has taken steps to stop coral bleaching. 35.What is the author’s attitude to the future of the Great Barrier Reef? A.Positive. B.Negative. C.Doubtful. D.Indifferent. With the pressure of exams, assignments (作业), college applications, athletics, and social situations, high school students today need to learn how to manage stress more than any generation before. 36 Put self-care first As high school students, you’re at the age where you’re growing, and your brains are finishing developing, which means you need to get more sleep than you used to. However, sleep is just one part of self-care. 37 Take time out each day to exercise. It will make you happier and help you recharge (休整). You’ll notice better performance, increased focus, and less stress. Think positively Instead of losing your mind by assuming the worst, try picturing the best possible outcome. Rather than tell yourself “I can’t do this” or “I don’t have enough time”, repeat over and over in your mind “I can do this” and “I have plenty of time” until you believe it. 38 And you’ll notice yourself getting creative to make things happen. Manage your time 39 Rather than have an endless to-do list that you’re constantly crossing off, learn the art of time blocking —assigning a certain amount of time to each task. You’ll find that time blocking increases your ability to focus, lowers your stress levels, and gives you something to look forward to rather than feeling like you’re working on the same thing for a whole day. Lighten up and laugh a little Even when you do your day-to-day activities, don’t take things too seriously—laugh a little. Laughter can deal with stress as well as exercise can. It’s another healthy escape. 40 For example, you can watch your favorite movies or cartoons, and read some funny books or magazines. Most importantly, you should be able to laugh at yourself even when things don’t go your way. A.Stay organized and schedule your time wisely. B.Here are some ideas that can help you deal with high school. C.There are things you can do to promote a light-hearted nature. D.The more you believe these thoughts, the truer they will become. E.Make sure you are paying attention to your overall physical health. F.Humor is a powerful stress reliever that’s comparable to physical exercise. G.Apart from physical and mental growth, you’re also dealing with the challenges of high school. You can tell a lot about a man by how he treats his dogs. Maybe for some people they aren’t, but for most of us, being able to explore our heritages gives us many 57 (benefit). Personal heritages can serve as connection with our past. For example, we might have some of the toys that belonged 58 our ancestors. As a part of our families’ heritages, they are important because they tell us where we come from. It is true that knowing our personal heritage doesn’t 59 (full) define us. However, it can help us find our starting point in life. It can even help us find out the direction in which we wish to go. For example, if we happen to have people in our families 60 have done great things, we might find that we want to further 61 (they) achievements. Understanding the cultural heritages, such as homegrown music styles, widely 62 (celebrate) festivals and unique cooking methods, allows us 63 (identify) with other communities that have a similar background. Cultural heritages can actually provide us with a sense of belonging and unity within a group. In a sense, the more globalized the world becomes, 64 more important it is not to lose forever these 65 (tradition) roots (根). 参考词汇:皇帝的腐败the emperor’s corruption Dear Tom, _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ If you want to know about other Chinese traditional festivals, just write to me. Kindness of Strangers We rely on a community where helping others is highly appreciated. When we need help, it creates a web that ties us together. Once upon a time, I was in the kitchen getting dinner ready when my fourteen-year-old daughter, Cassandra, called me from her room. “Mom, can you help me get downstairs?” She had lung disease and depended on oxygen twenty-four hours a day, so it was impossible for her to move up and down the stairs without help. I turned down the stove and ran upstairs to her room. Cassandra let out a sigh and closed her eyes. “Mom, I wish it wasn’t so hard for me to climb the stairs.” “I know, honey. We’ll try to solve the problem.” My daughter’s words reminded me of an incident. A month earlier, a company introduced an electric stairlift (座椅电梯) to us. My daughter could use this stairlift to go up and down stairs by herself without anyone helping her. Hearing the perfect product, our whole family was very excited and looking forward to it. The stairlift sounded wonderful because it would greatly improve my daughter’s life. Unluckily, we couldn’t afford it although John, my husband, even took two jobs to support the family. To meet Cassandra’s wish, I got round to ask the charity organization in our community for help once again. They had lent us a wheelchair before we bought one. Maybe they could help with a stairlift, too. I held my breath while the phone rang. “Do you have a stairlift I could borrow?” I asked them hopefully. However, they hadn’t, but they promised to call us right away if they got one. Hanging up the phone, I told this to my family anxiously. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ One early morning, we heard someone knocking at the door. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 试卷第1页,共3页 试卷第1页,共3页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 参考答案: 1.A 【原文】M: I graduated from Harvard in 2018. When they grew too big and dangerous to pet at around 12 weeks, young tigers were put on show, or simply disappeared.(允许游客给小老虎拍照的路边动物园是造成美国老虎危机的主要原因。 故选A。 29. 根据第三段“Roadside zoos that allowed tourists to take pictures of young tigers were the main cause of what’s been called a US tiger crisis (危机).(允许游客给小老虎拍照的路边动物园是造成美国老虎危机的主要原因)”可知,路边圈养动物是引发美国老虎生存危机的主因。故选C。 30. 根据第三段“Young tigers, parted from their mothers at birth, were fed poorly and touched by hundreds of people. 根据第四段中“Unfortunately, coral bleaching events are now occurring at an alarming rate. 可知,要坚持积极的想法,故D选项“The more you believe these thoughts, the truer they will become.
