It was finally time for me to visit the country. My first day started in Lima, the capital of Peru. I met with the G Adventures representative (代表) here about the tour. G Adventures is an organization that helps you to connect with other like-minded people in small group-based travel adventures. They played a big part in helping to make Peru an unforgettable experience for me! In Lima, my representative discussed the plan of my tour, and I also had the chance to explore Lima in my own time, with many activities, including a city tour, show, biking tour, and more. Day two had me taking a flight from Lima to Cusco. Many people visit Cusco for shopping but for me, the main reason for spending a day or two in Cusco was to acclimatize (适应) to the altitude (海拔). As I’d decided to reach the wonder of Machu Picchu, acclimatizing became important to avoid altitude sickness. I was happy to spend a day exploring Cusco. Cusco was once the capital of the Inca Empire. Today, it’s famous for its artists, paintings, clothing and traditional instruments. There’s something for everyone in this city. The day finally came! Day three had me enjoying a lovely guided visit to Machu Picchu at sunrise. I had free time to explore the city on my own as well as with my guide. It was a lot to take in! I had to stop for a moment and felt the energy of such an ancient city. The history here was unbelievable and I will never forget my time here for as long as I live! 24. What is the author’s attitude to G Adventures? A. Doubtful. B. Satisfied. C. Uninterested. D. Hopeful. 25. Why did the author stay in Cusco? A. To go shopping. B. To find a local guide. C. To get used to the high altitude. D. To do research about the Inca Empire. 26. How did the author feel when traveling around Machu Picchu? A. Full of excitement. B. Out of luck. C. Lost in doubt. D. Deep in regret. 27. What is the best title for the text? A. My love of traveling B. My wonderful trip to Peru C. Peru: “Land of the Incas”. D. Traveling: the future of Peru. B 25. C 26. A 27. 根据第二段中“G Adventures is an organization that helps you to connect with other like-minded people in small group-based travel adventures. They played a big part in helping to make Peru an unforgettable experience for me!”(G Adventures是一个组织,它可以帮助你与其他志同道合的人在小型团体旅行冒险中建立联系。 根据第三段中“Many people visit Cusco for shopping but for me, the main reason for spending a day or two in Cusco was to acclimatize (适应) to the altitude (海拔).”(很多人来库斯科是为了购物,但对我来说,在库斯科呆一两天的主要原因是为了适应这里的海拔高度。) 根据最后一段中“Day three had me enjoying a lovely guided visit to Machu Picchu at sunrise. I had free time to explore the city on my own as well as with my guide. It was a lot to take in! I had to stop for a moment and felt the energy of such an ancient city. The history here was unbelievable and I will never forget my time here for as long as I live!”(第三天,在导游的带领下,我在日出时分游览了马丘比丘。 故选A项。 根据文章大意以及第一段“Peru is famously known as “Land of the Incas”. A trip to Peru has been on my wish list for quite a while. It was finally time for me to visit the country.”(秘鲁以“印加人之地”而闻名。 所以B项“My wonderful trip to Peru.”(我愉快的秘鲁之旅)切合文意。故选B项。 C Rich, heavy food is a major part of the end of the year holidays in the United States. People in the U.S. celebrate Thanksgiving on the third Thursday of November. People around the world celebrate Christmas on December 25. Both holidays involve (包含) traditions of cooking very large meals. The food at these meals usually has lots of sugar, salt, and butter in it. Turkey and pie are some of the most common foods in these holidays. Terri Price has hosted a holiday party on the last Saturday before every Christmas for 30 years. It started when her children were very, very small. She has been preparing many of the dishes for most of the 30 years. But over time, some traditions do change. The Neveldines are a family who hope to be healthier by changing what they eat. Mick Fury, the Neveldine’s oldest child, said this change is important during the holidays and the rest of the year, too. Mick and his wife, Michelle, try to eat only organic food. Organic food is any plant or animal food product made without the use of unnatural chemicals or processes. But, Mick is not the only Neveldine who changed their diet. Felicia Neveldine, Mick’s sister, decided nine years ago to become a vegan. A vegan is a person who does not eat or use animal products of any kind. Felicia became a vegan because of her concern for the treatment of animals and the environmental effects of animal farming. She said that her change in diet also improved her health. Choosing these special diets means the Neveldines choose their foods carefully. Mick grows a garden behind his house where he gets fresh vegetables. Holiday traditions may not change, but the way these traditions happen just might. 28. What does paragraph I mainly tell us? A. The end-of-year holidays is vital. B. Heavy food is rich in nutrition. C. Cooking large meals is a tradition in USA. D. Heavy food is popular in holidays for Americans. 29. What do we learn about the Neveldines’ holiday diets? A. They have turned healthier. 根据第三段中“The Neveldines are a family who hope to be healthier by changing what they eat. 故选A。 根据划线单词下文“A vegan is a person who does not eat or use animal products of any kind. That’s according to a new research published in JAMA Network Open, in May. Kids who participated in community service were 34% more likely to be in very good physical health than those who didn’t participate, the study found. And those who volunteered were 66% more likely to be considered doing well in general. Kids aged 12 and older who volunteered were 25% less likely to have anxiety than peers who didn’t. The findings come from survey data provided by the parents of some 50,000 kids in the United States aged 6 to 17. About half of those parents reported that their kids did volunteer work. Studies like this have limitations. Parents answered questions about their kids’ health and community-service activity. But a parent might not know if their child experiences anxiety or considers themselves to be doing well in general. This type of data also can’t prove cause and effect. It can only uncover connections. So it’s not possible to say for sure that volunteering leads to better mental and physical health. It could be that people in good health are more likely to have the energy or desire to volunteer. But the data comes at an important time for youth mental health. In recent years, rates of depression and anxiety have risen among young people. More than 40% of high school students reported experiencing feelings of sadness or hopelessness. So there’s a clear need for accessible and effective mental health resources. Giving back to the community may be one such resource. And this study isn’t the only one to reach that conclusion. Previous research has also found links between volunteering and well-being among adults. Serving the community seems to help people feel a sense of purpose. And it makes them feel connected to those around them. Generosity has also been shown to boost happiness and improve physical health. It might be a practice worth doing. 32. How many kids in the US who volunteered were less likely to be anxious? A. 12,500. B. 17,000. C. 33,000. D. 50,000. 33. What can we learn from the third paragraph? A. Healthy people are less likely to volunteer. B. Volunteering surely leads to better mental and physical health. C. Parents know their kids’ mental and physical health very well. D. There is a relationship between health and community-service activity. 34. What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. There are various mental health resources. B. People of all ages will serve the community. C. Serving the community will benefit mental health. D. High school students are suffering mental health problems. 35. Which proverb best matches the article? A. He laughs best who laughs last. B. The rose is in her hand, the flavor in mine. C. The longest journey begins with the first step. D. Treat other people as you hope they will treat you. A 33. D 34. C 35. 根据第二段中“Kids aged 12 and older who volunteered were 25% less likely to have anxiety than peers who didn’t. The findings come from survey data provided by the parents of some 50,000 kids in the United States aged 6 to 17. (参加志愿者活动的12岁及以上的孩子比没有参加的同龄人患焦虑症的可能性低25%。这一发现来自美国5万名6至17岁儿童的父母提供的调查数据)”可知,在美国,约有12500名(=50000×25%)做志愿者的孩子不太容易焦虑。故选A项。 根据第三段中“This type of data also can’t prove cause and effect. It can only uncover connections. So it’s not possible to say for sure that volunteering leads to better mental and physical health. It could be that people in good health are more likely to have the energy or desire to volunteer. (这种类型的数据也不能证明因果关系。它只能揭示联系。因此,不能肯定地说志愿活动能带来更好的心理和身体健康。这可能是因为身体健康的人更有可能有精力或意愿去做志愿者)”可推知,虽然志愿活动和心理和身体健康之间的因果关系尚不能确定,但是两者之间的确是有联系的。故选D项。 【34题详解】 主旨大意题。根据最后一段的内容,尤其是其中的“Previous research has also found links between volunteering and well-being among adults. Serving the community seems to help people feel a sense of purpose. And it makes them feel connected to those around them. Generosity has also been shown to boost happiness and improve physical health. It might be a practice worth doing. 通读全文,尤其是第一段“Kids and teenagers who volunteer aren’t just helping their community. They might also be helping themselves. (做志愿者的孩子和青少年不仅仅是在帮助他们的社区。他们也可能是在帮助自己)”可知,文章围绕一项调查研究的发现展开,主要介绍了其发现内容:做志愿者的孩子和青少年自身也受益于志愿活动,他们的身心健康水平更高,同时指出了该研究的局限性和意义。因此,B项“赠人玫瑰,手留余香”最契合该研究发现的结果。A. Changing your life can come in small, easy steps. Ellen Kalish was happy to help, who runs the Manhattan Wildlife Center in New York. She is used to getting calls about taking in wild animals. The caller told her where this tiny owl was hiding out. It was found inside the Christmas tree in the Rockefeller Center, where it is a yearly tradition to decorate trees. But this year, the tree looked a little worse. Many people made fun of its branches. They called the tree a “symbol of 2020”, meaning its sad look reminded them how tough the past year was. The tale of the owl’s rescue quickly became the highlight of this year’s tree. Before the tree was put up to decorate, one of the workers caught sight of the creature. It was buried in the base of the tree. The owl most likely traveled with the tree on its journey to Manhattan. But there was no proof about where it came from and how it ended up stuck in this tree. Getting the little bird out from the base of the tree, the worker noticed that the creature got badly injured and seemed not to eat or drink anything for a few days. She was too weak to fly, but luckily she was still alive. In that case, the worker had to bring the owl home. He named her Rocky as he spotted her in the Rockefeller Center. Considering he himself had no idea how to keep an owl, he decided to find a place that rescues wildlife animals. That was why he called the Center. She opened the box gently. The owl was standing in a cardboard box, looking straight at her. “I thought, this is a miracle! How did this bird survive this trip?” She named the owl Rockefeller, or “Rocky.” “She was super hungry,” she says, estimating that she probably had not been able to eat or drink for at least a few days. She immediately gave her water and food—a few frozen mice—which she ate quickly. A veterinarian examined her, and x-rays showed that she had no broken bones or inner damage. By Thursday, Rocky started to bathe herself—a sign she was feeling good. An owl bath, Kalish says, leads to “water everywhere.” Rocky didn’t look that terrible as she was in the box a week before. On Friday, Kalish moved Rocky to an outdoor practice cage so she could get used to new circumstance and Kalish could monitor her flight. By Tuesday at dusk, she seemed ready to go. Kalish brought Rocky to a clearing of nearby forest, removed her from her carrier and raised her toward the sky. Rocky sat on Kalish’s hand for several moments, surveying her surroundings. Then, she flew off, settling in a nearby pine tree. 词汇激活 行为类 ①打开:open/unfold ②洗澡:bath/have a bath/take a bath ③抚养:lift/ raise/ put up/uplift ④停在:place/rest on 情绪类 ①感觉好:feel good/feel okay/be alright 【点睛】[高分句型1] A veterinarian examined her, and x-rays showed that she had no broken bones or internal damage. B Peru is famously known as “Land of the Incas”. A trip to Peru has been on my wish list for quite a while. A Doubtful. B. Satisfied. C. Uninterested. D. Hopeful. 25. Why did the author stay in Cusco? A. To go shopping. B. To find a local guide. C. To get used to the high altitude. D. To do research about the Inca Empire. 26. How did the author feel when traveling around Machu Picchu? A. Full of excitement. B. Out of luck. C. Lost in doubt. D. Deep in regret. 27. What is the best title for the text? A. My love of traveling B. My wonderful trip to Peru C. Peru: “Land of the Incas”. D. Traveling: the future of Peru. C Rich, heavy food is a major part of the end of the year holidays in the United States. B. They have given up the tradition. C. They have remained the same. D. They have grown unhealthy. 30. What does the underlined word “vegan” in paragraph 4 mean? A. sportsman. B. vegetarian. C. dieter. D. volunteer. 31. What may be the author’s attitude to traditional heavy food in holidays? A. Favorable. B. Critical. C. Objective. D. Unclear. D Kids and teenagers who volunteer aren’t just helping their community. They might also be helping themselves. In recent years rates of depression and anxiety have risen among young people. In that case the worker had to bring the owl home. He named her Rocky as he spotted her in the Rockefeller Center. Considering he himself had no idea how to keep an owl, he decided to find a place that rescues wildlife animals. That was why he called the Center. After Kalish got the full story about the bird, she met the man at a gas station. Then the man handed her a box with the owl inside. Kalish took the box carefully. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Rocky didn’t look that terrible as she was in the box a week before. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
