Compare the sentences below.
What can you learn?
1.当宾语从句表达不确定的概念时,从句要用whether或if 来引导,不能用that;
2.wether和if不能省略。
1) He asks me whether/if Lucy will be
back in two days.
他问我露西是否两天后回来。
2) He asks whether/if we will go fishing
on Sunday.
他问我们是否周日去钓鱼。
whether/if常放在 ask,wonder,can (could) you tell me 等之后,表达不确定的概念,意为“是否” 。两者常可换用,口语中多用 if。
whether/if 引导的宾语从句
if或whether引导宾语从句时,作"是否”讲,一般情况下,两者常可换用。
只能用 的情况 Please tell us whether to go or stay here.
I don't know whether or not I can come.
We worried about whether he was in good health.

首表示强调时
* 遇到"什么时间、什么地点、什么方式、什么原因”之类的疑问时,要用相应的疑问词来引导宾语从句。
* 在疑问词引导的宾语从句中,一定要用陈述语序。
* 疑问词通常有疑问代词what, which, who, whose和疑问副词where, when, why, how等。

疑问词引导的宾语从句
观察并翻译下列句子,你认为它们属于哪种从句?说说它们与我们之前学过的宾语从句有何不同。
从句类型 引导词 例句
由that引导的宾语从句 that(在口语或非正式文体中常省略) I think that you are right.
由连词if\whether引导的宾语从句 whether, if (在口语中常用if) I wonder if/ whether they will have the races again next year.
由疑问词引导的宾语从句 who, what, which, when, where, how, why Could you tell me where the restrooms are?
Now we have learned three kinds of object clauses:
1) Where does Mr. Liu live?

Try to make the two sentences into one.
* 不管主句为陈述句还是疑问句,由疑问词引导的宾语从句都要用陈述句语序。
* 句末是否用问号由主句确定。
主句是陈述句时,句末用句号;
主句是疑问句时,句末用问号。
