There are many different charities in the world. Make-A-Wish Foundation is one of the world’s most well-known charities. It makes wishes come true for those children who have serious illnesses. It gives them hope and joy, and helps them forget about their health problems and have fun.
It all started in 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona because of a boy named Christopher James Greicius. Christopher was a 7-year-old boy then and was very sick. He always dreamt of becoming a police officer. His community all worked together to make his wish come true. Tommy Austin and Ron Cox, two police officers, gave Christopher a tour of the city in a police helicopter (直升机) and made a real police uniform for him.
So far, Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted more than 520,000 wishes worldwide. According to the foundation, there are four kinds of wishes children usually have:
