Anyone who has an idea worth sharing is able to give a powerful talk. The only important thing in public speaking is not confidence, stage presence, or smooth talking. 36
I am using the word “idea” quite generally here. 37 It can be a simple how-to. Or a beautiful picture that has meaning. Or perhaps just a reminder of what matters most in life. An idea is anything that can change how people see the world.
Do you have ideas that are worth a wider audience? 38 A lot of speakers are happy to talk for hours without sharing anything much of value. But there are also many people who think little of the value of their work, their learning, and their deep understandings.
More likely, you have far more in you worth sharing than you’re even aware of. You don’t have to have invented lion lights. You’ve led a life that is yours and yours only. 39 There are lessons to be drawn from some of those experiences that are definitely worth sharing. You just have to know which ones.
40 What are the two or three things you’ve done that you’re most proud of? If you could wave a magic stick, what is the one idea you’d most love to spread to other people’s minds?
A.Are you stressed about this?
B.It is having something worth saying.
C.It doesn’t have to be a great invention.
D.The lesson you might draw from the story is familiar.
E.There are experiences you’ve had that are unique to you.
F.Think back over your work of the last three or four years.
G.It’s amazing how bad we are at judging an answer to that question.

The significance of the junior year in high school is often ignored. 36 Making plans for university and future careers mainly depends on this most important time as well. Here are some tips on how to spend a successful junior year:
• Start to research universities and colleges. University application processes are not only long and complex, but they also vary (不同) by country and region. Visit university websites and find out what the application period is, what documents are needed, and any additional qualifications they require. 37 Organizing this information in a table helps make comparisons easier.
• Find training in the field of your interest. This provides you with an opportunity to develop new skills and acquire knowledge beyond the classroom. 38 By observing and experiencing the workplace directly, I developed my interests further in that medical field and learned and felt how doctors and nurses connected with patients.
• Be actively involved in the school community. 39 It may well be the last opportunity to make unforgettable memories in high school before coming into the real world. Cherish the connections you make during high school, as they can provide a support network throughout your life.
• 40 During the junior year, a continuous number of long reports and the pressure of exams may make you anxious and insecure. Seek emotional support from your friends, parents and teachers, and have someone who you can trust. Also, spare some time to play sports or enjoy your hobbies.
Think of your high school journey like a marathon: although you may be slow, as long as you stay flexible, you will be able to finish the race.
A.Find your own ways to relieve stress.
B.Have a smooth communication with your parents.
C.There is a bright future in front of every one of you.
D.In fact, it is the busiest and toughest time of high school life.
E.I once worked at a local hospital during my summer vacation.
F.Don’t hesitate to participate in new activities or take any leadership role.
G.Collect information about different aspects of the university as much as possible.

Europeans and other western nations have controlled car industry for over a century. But a newcomer will soon be running after them at their heels. 36 It is more than ten years since they did better than America to become the most productive car-makers in the world. China is producing the best cars in the world, and on the way to controlling car production. 37
China has gradually built its car-making capabilities during different periods. 38 And then its state-owned companies reached arrangements with western makers like General Motors in the 1980s. This produced cars that were far better designed, and soon China’s roads were becoming busy with western clones.
39 It still pays relatively low wages and has millions of skilled workers. Skilled workers are important to reduce the costs because they make vehicles that need fewer rebuilds. Some Chinese vehicles in the past ten years haven’t had the design expected by western buyers, so haven’t sold in enough cars in Europe to worry the western makers. 40 Chinese-designed and built vehicles are not far behind in their design, and starting to enter European markets. Xpeng is one Chinese start-up that only produces electric vehicles. Having sold well in China, it is making its first moves into Europe via Norway with its G3 model. The next revolution in car industry is replacing petrol vehicles with electric. With all of China’s advantages, it could finally become the home of the best cars in the world.
A.How did this happen?
B.Yet this is changing rapidly.
C.These cars sold well at home and abroad.
D.The Chinese are not exactly newcomers.
E.China also has excellent shipping links, like Shanghai.
F.China is also in a good position to build cars for the right price.
G.It originally began making Soviet-designed vehicles in the 1950s.

Even small amounts of processed meat can greatly raise your cancer risk, the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) writes. The WCRF update their guidelines every decade, and in this one, they outline three main problems: tobacco, red processed meat, and alcohol (酒精). 16 Almost half of all cancer cases are preventable, they write, and the most straightforward way is through a healthy diet. But what does that mean?
No smoking
17 While this is not strictly a part of a healthy diet, smoking has long been proven to cause a wide variety of cancers, as well as increase the risk for cardiovascular diseases and other serious health issues
Avoid alcohol
Decades ago, people thought that you could enjoy alcohol in low to moderate quantities without causing a health risk. Recent research seems to suggest that even in low quantities, drinking alcohol can greatly increase, your risk of cancer. 18 So, better avoid it.
Red meat
The list wouldn’t be complete without red meat. As other studies before it, the WCRF report further emphasizes that red meat is also associated with an important rise in cancer risk, especially processed red meat. 39. 19 No amount of processed red meat is safe if you want to minimize your risk of cancer.
The findings don’t necessarily offer something -they just repeat what mountains of research are already saying: if you want to avoid, cancer, you need to eat more things that are good for you, less of the things that are harmful to you, and be at least somewhat physically fit. 20
A.Yes, even little drinking is bad for you.
B.A smoking area is planned for people who want to smoke.
C.The first thing you should do is give up smoking (if you do smoke).
D.However, in the modern world, that seems to be increasingly difficult.
E.Let me spell that out a different way: bacon and sausages are bad for you.
F.The WCRF report focuses on finding the causes of cancer and how to avoid them.
G.Besides affecting physical health, red meat also does harm to one’s mental health.

Feeling refreshed is essential for overall health. Usually, great importance is attached to making your body feel refreshed. 16
Think positively.
17 To help yourself have the ability to think positively, do things like accepting your own limitations, letting go of guilt and telling yourself that you are doing a good job. If you find your thoughts constantly turning negative, start putting up sticky notes in your office or around your house as reminders.
Perform activities that bring you joy.
If you have a stressful job and feel tired after a long day, jumping into an activity you see as a pleasure can help you feel refreshed. 18 You can also pick up a new hobby like sewing, drawing or painting, making something with your hands like jewelry — the possibilities are nearly limitless.
Make sure you laugh.
Laughing is good for you, no matter how you look at it. 19 If you are feeling annoyed, find a good comedy video on your smartphone or make a date with a friend who makes you laugh. If you know of a funny movie that is out on video, rent it to take home so you can laugh with your family.
20
Staying in contact with the outside world is important for your mental health as well as a key to feeling refreshed. Talking to other people about their issues rather than your own is a good way to forget your worries and get strength.
A.Avoid isolating yourself.
B.Performan act of service.
C.It is a direct way to restore your mind.
D.It’s important to feel refreshed throughout your day.
E.Do something like reading a book to change your mindset and have fun.
F.However, finding ways to keep your mind refreshed is of equal significance.
G.It has a positive effect on your heart, activates muscles, and promotes relaxation.
