Hello, everyone. A new collection of artworks is going on show to the public next month in the form of an artist exhibition.(20) The exhibition will include many different types of art, over 100 different pieces by 58 artists from the local area. It will be held at the Royal Museum, which is opposite the library(17) in West Street, just between the Queen's Park and the post office. The exhibition will run for about 8 weeks(18) and will begin on October 4th and continue until December 5th, so there is plenty of time for you to go along and have a look. What will you see? Well, there will be some exciting pieces of modern jewelry, furniture, and metalwork. To give you some examples, local artist Kate Maine will be there to discuss her collection of pots and bowls that she's made(19) to look like real garden vegetables. They are the sort of things that will brighten up any dining table. Prize winner Cynthia Course will also be there to talk about her silver jewelry. Some of her rings are quite extraordinary and have beautiful colored stones on them. Or if you prefer metalwork, there is plenty of that too. Take Susan Culp's metalwork of 25 pairs of shoes for example. It sounds easy but believe me, it looks amazing. All of these artworks along with others will be on sale throughout the exhibition period.

I'm a 22yearold young man and came to China 4 months ago for the same reasons most people of my age do. They want to see the world and expand their horizons. To explore more about China, I am now teaching English in Guangdong.
China hasn't been the expected. Before I came, I was unaware of the level of ongoing development within the country. Highrise buildings, flat screen televisions, wellequipped classrooms... I found myself pleasantly surprised. Like other foreigners, I saw the funny side of the language barrier and tasted the chicken feet. I gave in to the flow of Chinese culture and haven't looked back since, but it wasn't until today that I realized how naturally similar it is to my own.
When the Chinese take a photograph, they won't say “Cheese!” like we do back home in the UK. Instead, they say the word “Eggplant!”. Amused at first, I suddenly realized that I had no reason to be critical. Cheese? Eggplant? Any difference?
China is home to one of the oldest and greatest cultures in the world. It is in this country that I have witnessed some of the most beautiful scenes that the human race can offer. We all share a way of life, no matter where we're from or where we go. It's my conclusion that though we shout random(随意的) food at a camera, at least, we're all shouting words from the same category. How different can we really be?
So, instead of grasping your own culture, take a break and allow the culture of another country to embrace you. You may be surprised at the amount of similarities you find, just as I was this afternoon in sunny, southern China.
( D )24.Why did the writer come to China?
A.To copy others.
B.To make a living.
C.To learn Chinese.
D.To satisfy his curiosity.
( C )25.What makes a pleasant surprise for the writer in China?
A.The rich culture.
B.The way of taking photos.
C.The unexpected modern life.
D.The funny scenes in communication.
( C )26.What lesson did the writer learn through his experience in China?
A.When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
B.People should all shout “Cheese” at a camera.
C.People of different cultures share some similarities.
D.The more you travel, the more you appreciate home.
( B )27.Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A.English or Chinese?
B.Cheese and Eggplants
C.The Importance of Travel
D.The Diverse Culture of China
根据第一段中的“To explore more about China, I am now teaching English in Guangdong.”
根据第二段中的“China hasn't been the expected. Before I came, I was unaware of the level of ongoing development within the country. Highrise buildings, flat screen televisions, wellequipped classrooms... I found myself pleasantly surprised.”
根据倒数第二段中的“We all share a way of life, no matter where we're from or where we go. It's my conclusion that though we shout random(随意的) food at a camera, at least, we're all shouting words from the same category. How different can we really be?”
根据最后一段“So, instead of grasping your own culture, take a break and allow the culture of another country to embrace you. You may be surprised at the amount of similarities you find, just as I was this afternoon in sunny, southern China.”

Singapore's tradition of eating out in places called hawker centers is now recognized by the United Nations for its cultural importance.
A hawker is a person who sells food or goods and advertises by shouting at people walking by on the street. Hawkers are an important part of Singaporean culture. Openair eating areas where hawkers sell their goods are very popular. Famous chefs, such as Anthony Bourdain and Gordon Ramsay, have praised them.
On Wednesday, the United Nations' cultural agency, UNESCO, added the city's “hawker culture” to its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Singapore sought to have hawker culture added to the list about two years ago. Now that it has been recognized, Singapore must provide a report every six years to UNESCO. The report must show the efforts it has made to save and support its hawker culture.
“These centers serve as ‘community dining rooms’, where people from diverse backgrounds gather and share the experience of dining over breakfast, lunch and dinner,” UNESCO said.
In the 1970s, Singapore cleaned up its streets so the street hawkers moved to new eating centers. These areas were part of an effort to improve the island. Now, the centers offer many different lowcost meals to local people and provide a pleasing social setting. The 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians showed its stars enjoying meals at a famous night market. Some sellers even received Michelin stars from a famous restaurant rating system for their meals costing only a few dollars.
But, now the average age of hawkers in Singapore is 60 years old. Younger Singaporeans now want to work in offices. They are less interested in working in small restaurants.
( B )28.Why is hawker culture added to UNESCO's list?
A.For the efforts Singapore has made.
B.For its importance in showing Singapore's culture.
C.For the report Singapore provided.
D.For the recommendation by UNESCO.
( A )29.What do we know about hawkers from Paragraph 2?
A.They sell goods in the openair areas.
B.They are famous chefs.
C.They are Singapore natives.
D.They are popular all over the world.
( C )30.Why is the film Crazy Rich Asians mentioned?
A.To advertise the film.
B.To introduce the stars.
C.To show the popularity of hawker centers.
D.To help the sellers receive Michelin stars.
( A )31.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.The difficulties hawker culture is facing.
B.The average age of hawkers.
C.The younger Singaporeans are passionate about working as hawkers.
D.The future of hawker culture.
根据第一段“Singapore's tradition of eating out in places called hawker centers is now recognized by the United Nations for its cultural importance.”
根据第二段第三句“Openair eating areas where hawkers sell their goods are very popular.(小贩售卖商品的露天就餐区很受欢迎)”可知,小贩们在露天区域卖东西。故选A。
根据倒数第二段第三、四句“Now, the centers offer many different lowcost meals to local people and provide a pleasing social setting. The 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians showed its stars enjoying meals at a famous night market.”
故选A。

Do you love to play soccer? If you do, then you've probably daydreamed from time to time about scoring the winning goal in a big game. Perhaps you've even pictured exactly how it would happen. A bicycle kick (倒钩射门) can help you.
There are probably very few soccer players who haven't dreamed of scoring a goal on a bicycle kick. It's a feat even more impressive than a hat trick. You can try to describe a perfect bicycle kick, but somehow words struggle to convey the magic found in this unique combination of grace, beauty, and athletic prowess In soccer, few moves can compare to the bicycle kick. It doesn't happen often. So it's not often that you're able to witness one.
Given how special bicycle kicks are, it should come as no surprise that there's some argument about exactly who invented the bicycle kick. Some soccer historians claim Ramon Unzaga invented the bicycle kick in 1914 in Talcahuano, Chile. Others believe the bicycle kick may have been invented as early as 1892 in Callao, Peru, in a game against British sailors. Even legendary Brazilian striker Leonidas claims to have invented the move in 1932.
Regardless of who invented the bicycle kick, it has been a special part of soccer for a century now. Only goalkeepers with very exceptional reflexes (反应) might be able to react quickly enough to block a shot from a bicycle kick. Why?Scientists claim it's because of the physics involved in a bicycle kick. Since the player's body is high above the ground and angled upward, the kicking leg has a greater distance than normal to travel before hitting the ball. The result: a forceful kick that sends the ball toward the goal more quickly than normal.
If you're a soccer player, you've probably tried a bicycle kick a time or two. It's not easy. But you'll be able to see the basics broken down into steps by jumping online to check out How to Do a Bicycle Kick.
( B )32.Why does the author mention the dream of some soccer players in Paragraph 1?
A.To best explain a rule.
B.To introduce a concept.
C.To assess(评估) their health status.
D.To analyze their personality.
( A )33.What can we say the bicycle kick compared to other moves?
A.It's so rare. B.It's flexible.
C.It's predictable. D.It's graceful.
( C )34.Which of the following can describe stopping the shot for a goalkeeper as the bicycle kick appears?
A.A piece of cake. B.Controllable.
C.Nearly impossible. D.Appealing.
( D )35.What might be discussed about a bicycle kick following the last paragraph?
A.Its charm. B.Its complexity.
C.Its characteristic. D.Its procedure.
根据第一段中“Do you love to play soccer? If you do, then you've probably daydreamed from time to time about scoring the winning goal in a big game.Perhaps you've even pictured exactly how it would happen. A bicycle kick(倒钩射门) can help you.”
根据第二段中“In soccer, few moves can compare to the bicycle kick. It doesn't happen often. So it's not often that you're able to witness one.” 故选A。
根据倒数第二段中“Only goalkeepers with very exceptional reflexes (反应) might be able to react quickly enough to block a shot from a bicycle kick.”
根据最后一段中“But you'll be able to see the basics broken down into steps by jumping online to check out How to Do a Bicycle Kick.(但是你可以通过上网查看如何做倒钩射门的动作来了解其基本的步骤。)”
Some people describe American society as a bowl of salad while others think of it as a melting pot.
In a bowl of salad, all the ingredients are mixed together. 36__B__ Together, however, the ingredients make up a unity. All the ingredients of a salad contribute to the finished product. They may be covered with the same dressing(调料), but the green vegetables, tomatoes and cooked corn can all be seen for what they are.
From this point of view, America is very much like a salad bowl where individual ethnic groups mix together, yet maintain their cultural uniqueness. People may work together during the day at similar jobs and in the same companies, but at night they may return to their ethnic groups where their own individual culture directs their way of life. 37__C__ Each ethnic group has its own special customs, language, food and traditions to protect and defend. This idea of the salad bowl is referred to as cultural diversity; that is, American society is a collection of various cultures living together in harmony within one country.
38__G__ Here, society is like one large pot of soup. All cultural aspects are mixed together, sacrificing their original identity and keeping a bit of what they were to become a new reality. The longer the soup is cooked, the better the taste and the more likely it will be for the mixture to dissolve. In this sense, America can surely be seen as a melting pot where people from all over the world come to live and work together forming one nation. There are dozens of shared symbols. 39__F__ In such a culture, symbols like the flag and the nation's official song serve to break down the walls which separate ethnic groups.
Whether a bowl of salad or a melting pot, America can be best described as a mixture of both. 40__D__
A.Both are correct depending on one's point of view.
B.They never lose their shapes, colors or tastes.
C.This is why there is so much diversity within America.
D.In other words, America is a nation where there is unity in diversity.
E.Thus, one needs to abandon his culture to be considered “American”.
F.They serve to develop the various ethnic groups to create a new American culture.
G.The other theory, which is also used to describe American society, is the melting pot.
36.B 空前一句“In a bowl of salad, all the ingredients are mixed together.”
37.C 空后一句“Each ethnic group has its own special customs, language, food and traditions to protect and defend.” 因此C项“This is why there is so much diversity within America.(这就是为什么美国内部有如此多差异。)”
38.G 空处位于句首,为段落主题句;第一段提出了两个理论,美国社会被描述为一碗沙拉和美国社会是一个大熔炉;第二段介绍了美国社会是一碗沙拉这个理论;根据本段中的关键信息“society is like one large pot of soup”和“In this sense, America can surely be seen as a melting pot”可知,本段介绍美国社会是一个大熔炉,因此G项“The other theory, which is also used to describe American society, is the melting pot.(另一种理论,也被用来描述美国社会,是大熔炉。)”
39.F 下文“In such a culture, symbols like the flag and the nation's official song serve to break down the walls which separate ethnic groups.” 选项中应该提到such culture的具体内容,综合所给选项可知,F项“They serve to develop the various ethnic groups to create a new American culture.(它们用以发展不同的族群来创造新的美国文化。)”
40.D 根据上文“Whether a bowl of salad or a melting pot, America can be best described as a mixture of both.(无论美国是一碗沙拉还是一个大熔炉,最好的形容是两者的混合体。)” 因此D项“In other words, America is a nation where there is unity in diversity.(换句话说,美国是一个多元一体的国家。)”

On her first day in Micronesia, Lisa thought people were__45__her requests. The day was____46__, and she needed a cold drink. I was born in St Ives but I moved away from home at a time when I thought the grass was greener elsewhere. I soon learned that I already had 56.__what__ I had been looking for all along and fell in love with my hometown when I moved back from London.
I love the character of the people and 57.__of__ the streets in St Ives. I love that I can access the wild outdoors just beyond my doorstep. There is an interesting duality(双重性) in St Ives—conservative and liberal people 59.__rubbing__ (rub) shoulders in almost equal numbers, which pretty much sums up the spirit of St Ives.
Sadly I do believe St Ives 60.__has__become__(become) a victim of its own success, much to the detriment(不利) of those (especially younger people) wanting to settle here. House prices are at an alltime high and the vast 61.__majority__ (major) of jobs are minimum wage. Many 62.__independent__(depend) shops are priced out of leases (因租金过高而被挤走) only to be swiftly replaced by bigger brands.
Nature lovers 63.__are__drawn__(draw) to St Ives thanks to the beautiful sea, the wild coast and the wildlife. It 64.__truly__(true) is the most incredible playground for those who find their joy in getting outdoors. Walking, hiking, cycling, coasteering, sailing, and swimming—we have it all. I created the St Ives Mermaid idea 65.__as__ a way of giving back to my hometown. It gives me the opportunity to entertain locals and visitors while also raising money for charity.

Weeks before Thanksgiving, my anxiety about it increased. My husband and I recently made a crosscountry move with our young child Jill. Our neighbor was an old couple, Mr and Mrs Smith, who were kind and friendly.
Our new home was in a mess. “We should start thinking about plans for Thanksgiving,” I suggested. “Don't worry about it,” my husband said. “Heat up some hot dogs, maybe some cheese, and the kid will be happy.” That sounded great. I was in a relief!
In the past holidays, I had never been responsible for cooking a full Thanksgiving dinner. My job was always to bring drinks or a side dish(配菜) to a large gathering and help clean up after the meal.
But one day my son Jill happily showed newlycreated turkey crafts. “Let's go on a walk and try to find a rock that looks like turkey!” Jill said. “Take me on a walk, Mommy!” The excitement was building, and I had a feeling that hot dogs were not going to be enough for my child on Thanksgiving.
“I'm going to try and prepare Thanksgiving food, Leonard,” I said to my husband late one night. He eyed me curiously. “You sure?” Then he said. “Okay, then, if you think you can do it.” I said, “I've got two days to prepare. The grocery store is open twentyfour hours. I'm going to the store!”
Unfortunately, only a huge turkey remained, so I had no choice but to buy a thirtypound turkey. Early Thanksgiving morning, I dragged the bagged turkey home. When my family saw it, they got a big surprise at its size. Seeing the surprise on their faces, I realized there was no way we could finish the turkey. It was too big for my family. “There was only one turkey left in the store,” I explained. “But how could we finish the turkey?” I asked my husband and Jill.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
